Chapter 9: Bruce can't be trusted.

I'm looking for someone that would be willing to draw me a cover for my story so if you can help me out or if you know someone that can please message me. Thanks ^ω^

Bruce waited for her hand to stop moving. Once it did he slowly sat up. She was asleep now; Lucy must have been exhausted. He lifted her legs off the floor and carefully extended them onto the couch so she could lay down comfortably. He took off his jacket and covered Lucy with it. Bruce knew there wasn't anytime for resting. Between being in charge of his company and protecting Gotham, Bruce hardly ever got time to just rest. He walked over to his desk and started working again. It had gotten dark before he realized it. He looked over at Lucy, who was still sleeping 'Must be nice.' He was a little jealous of her. The whole building had to stay late because everyone came in late that morning. Bruce thought it was only fair he stayed late too seeing how he came in later then everyone else. But then he got a call from Alfred about Killer Croc making a mess at some warehouse. He felt bad leaving Lucy so he decided to leave a note. On his way to the elevator he had to pass by Sara's office. Sara probably talked more then anyone he'd ever met, she always wanted to talk no matter what you were doing. 'I shouldn't have given her an office right next to the elevator.' He took a deep breath and prepared himself for what he was about to encounter.

Sara:"Mr.Wayne wait!"

He stopped and waited for her to get up from her desk.

Sara:"I hope you're not planning on leaving early while the rest of us still have tons of work to do."

Bruce:"It's an emergency. And how is it my problem you haven't finished YOUR work yet?"

Sara:"Yeah right! Look I'm not like Lucy, I'm not gonna believe every word that comes out of your mouth."

Sara was always sassy towards Bruce but he had no idea why.

Sara:"Speaking of Lucy have you seen her? she was supposed to take care of something for me."

Bruce took a deep breath and handed her the papers.

Sara:"Oh thanks...wait where did you say Lucy was again?"

Bruce:"She's working...unlike someone."

Sara rolled her eyes at Bruce and went back to her office and shut the door behind her. He was finally able to continue on his way.

By the time Lucy woke up Bruce was gone. 'I guess he left me...again.' it didn't bother her anymore. She walked over to his desk and saw a note that read...
'Lucy, had to take care of something. Lock up my office when you leave.'

Beside the piece of paper were Bruce's keys. Last time he had waited for her and they had gone home together but this time he left he all alone. Tonight felt different something told Lucy she shouldn't be walking the dark streets of Gotham alone. She picked up his jacket and left his office, then she remembered she had to lock it so she turned around. On her way to the elevator she noticed Sara's office light was still on so she poked her head inside.

Lucy:"Hey Sara."

Sara:"Hey Lucy, did you finish all your work?"

Lucy:"Um...no...I kinda fell asleep."

Sara:"Of course you did...wait you're not here to ask for my help right?"

Lucy:"No I'll finish it up at home."

Sara:"So then why are you still here?"

Lucy:"Well I was wondering if you could give me a ride."

Sara:"Yeah of course. Who knows what kind of strange creeps are strolling around Gotham at night."

Lucy:"Yeah thanks."

After Sara was done they walked to the parking garage. Sara's car was nothing compared to Bruce's it was nice but it wasn't as nice. Sara started to gossip about their coworkers while Lucy zoned out. She thought of Bruce and how he had left her again.

Lucy:"Did you see Mr.Wayne leave?"

Sara:"Um...Yeah I saw him on his way to the elevator, he said he had to leave early because of an emergency."

Lucy:"Emergency? What kind?"

Sara:"Don't know he didn't say. But it's not like he has kids or a wife to worry about."

Sara was right, he didn't have children (that she knew of anyway) or a wife. Maybe he has a girlfriend? He doesn't seem like the kind of person who would have time for a girlfriend. But Lucy wanted to know for sure.

Lucy:"Do you think he has a girlfriend or something?"

Sara started laughing uncontrollably.

Sara:"I'm sorry but have you met Bruce Wayne?"

She was confused, she seemed to always miss the joke.

Sara:"Of course he doesn't."

Lucy let out a sigh of relief. And Sara noticed.

Sara:"What was that?"

Lucy:"What?"

Sara:"That sigh. Are you glad he doesn't? Wait do you li..."

Lucy:"No! Its not like that. I just thought he should be focusing on his work instead of a girls and stuff."

Sara looked at her out of the corner of her eye. And her voice became serious.

Sara:"Are you sure?"

Lucy thought about it. 'Am I sure? Well Bruce has been acting differently towards me. Maybe there's something there? We did share th at moment. Maybe he cares about me.'

Sara:"Lucy!"

Lucy:"Yeah! Sorry I spaced out."

Sara:"Lucy."

Sara never took her eyes off the road and when she spoke she was serious.

Lucy:"Yeah?

Sara:"Listen and don't zone out this time."

Lucy:"Okay."

Lucy had never heard her be so serious so she knew what she had to say was important.

Sara:"Bruce Wayne is known for being a playboy. People like him don't care about others. All they care about is themselves. They act like they care then once they get what they want from you they'll toss you aside and go on to the next girl."

'Why is she telling me this?'

Sara:"People like Bruce can't be trusted."

Lucy:"He isn't like that!"

Sara:"How do you know?! How much time have you actually spent with him?"

Lucy thought about her question. Besides the usual conversations about work and appointments she hasn't really had chance to get to know him. 'Maybe I'm just as naive as everyone thinks I am.'

Sara:"I'm only trying to protect you because you're my friend and if I don't who will?"

Lucy:"Yeah I know. Thanks."

Sara pulled up to the front of Lucy's apartment building. Lucy was halfway up the steps when Sara called her.

Sara:"Lucy!"

Lucy:"Yeah?"

Sara:"Do you need a ride to work ?"

Lucy:"No. I'll take the bus."

Sara:"Are you sure?"

Lucy smiled to reassure her.

Lucy:"Yup. I'll be fine. Goodnight."

Sara:"Alright. Goodnight."

Lucy knew Sara was busy in the morning with her kids and husband. So she didn't want to cause her anymore trouble. Then she remembered she didn't have any cash for the bus and the closest atm was a block away in a shady area. 'I could always go in the morning.' 'But I might miss the bus, then I'll be late, and if I'm late Bruce will probably yell at me.' She decided it would be better to go now. She got to the atm with no problem, the atm was right next to an alley. Lucy was reminded of the first time she'd met Batman, 'I wonder if I'll see him.' Her thoughts were interrupted by something poking her in the back. Then she heard a voice.

???:"Give me all your money."

To be continued...
