Chapter 13:Hi my name is...

After she had finished reminiscing, she thought about last night. Suddenly all she could think about was Batman. Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of tapping, she looked up to see a tall blonde standing at her desk.

Women:"It's about time I've been waiting forever."

Lucy:"I'm sorry how can I help you?"

Women:"Is Bruce in? I need to see him."

Lucy:"No. Sorry he's at a meeting and I'm not sure when he'll be back."

Women:"That's alright would you mind giving this to him for me? Thanks!"

She pulled a small cream colored envelop out of her designer bag and handed it to Lucy then walked away. Halfway to the elevator she turned around to say one final thing.

Michelle:"Also tell him Michelle misses her Brucey."

'Brucey?' Just as she entered the elevator Sara walked out.

Sara:"Who was that?"

Lucy:"She left this for "Brucey"

Sara took the envelop from her hand and smelled it. Then she tossed it in the small trash can next to Lucy's desk.

Lucy:"Sara!"

She took it from the trash can and brushed it off.

Sara:"What? Its just from one of his play things."

Lucy:"I know."

Sara could heard the disappointment in her voice so she changed the subject.

Sara:"Anyway, what happened to your face?"

Lucy:"Oh, this? It's um just a little paper cut."

She narrowed her eyes at her.

Sara:"On your face?"

Lucy:"Yes"

Sara:"How'd you get it."

Lucy:"Um... a stack of papers fell from a selve in the supply close."

Sara:"What were you doing in there?"

Lucy:"Getting paper clips."

Sara was a little suspicious of the story but knew if Lucy wanted her to know she would have told her.

Sara:"Okay if you say so. But try not to get anymore "paper cuts". We wouldn't want you showing up at Bruce's party looking like a UFC fighter or something."

She chuckled a little then casually started flipping through a stack of papers on Lucy's desk.

Lucy:"What party?"

Sara:"You don't know?"

She shook her head.

Sara:"Well Mr.Moneybags signed a huge check to the hospital, so they're giving him a seat the the board of trustees or something."

Lucy:"Are we even invited?"

Sara:"Of course! You didn't get the e-mail?"

Lucy:"I haven't looked. But it doesn't matter because I'm not going."

Sara slammed her hand down on the folder Lucy had just picked up.

Sara:"What do you mean you're not going?"

Lucy:"I have no reason to go besides its not like he needs me or anything."

Her eyes shifted towards the envelope. Sara grabbed it, and tucked in into the waistband of her skirt.

Sara:"Look, everyone always goes to support Bruce and besides you wouldn't let me go by myself would you?"

Lucy:"Well no I guess not. But I still don't have anything to wear."

Sara:"That's okay, we'll just go shopping."

Lucy:"Okay. But when?"

They heard the ding of the elevator and Bruce stepped out, he silently walked pass them and went into his office.

Sara:"What's wrong with him? Usually he tells me to get back to work."

Lucy:"I don't know he's been quiet all day."

Lucy's phone rang she picked it up and began talking to someone. Once she was done she excused herself and said there was something she had to take care of. Sara decided she'd wait for her to get back. After the elevator doors closed she waited a moment then hopped from her desk. She walked over to the heavy doors and pushed them open.

Bruce:"We really need to have a conversation about your knocking habits."

She walked over to his desk and tossed the envelope right in front of him.

Bruce:"What's this?"

He opened it up and looked at it for a few seconds then tossed it into the trash.

Sara:"One of your little girlfriends asked Lucy to give this to you."

Bruce:"Where is she?"

Sara:"Lucy? or your girlfriend?"

He raised his eyebrow at her.

Sara:"She had to take care of something. Down stairs."

He moved towards the door but Sara blocked it.

Sara:"When you asked me to find Lucy and to convince Linda to hire her I thought it was because you cared about her and wanted to keep her close to you. What exactly is she to you?!"

Bruce:"Sara! You don't understand Lucy is-"

Before he could finish Lucy pushed the door open and entered the room.

Lucy:"Is everything okay?"

Sara:"Everything's fine I was just telling Mr.Wayne how generous he is to give us the rest of the day off to go shopping for the party.

Lucy:"Really?!"

Sara:"Yup. Right Mr.Wayne?"

He cleared his throat then looked at Sara with defeated eyes.

Bruce:"Right. I don't really need you anymore today."

Lucy:"Oh okay."

She placed a stack of papers on his desk then left the room.

Bruce:"Sara."

Sara:"What?"

Bruce:"Everything I'm doing is for a reason. Just-"

Sara:"I know, I know. Just continue to look out for her."

After Sara left he sat down exhausted from the whole situation. He stared at his hand again then thought of what Sara had asked him "what exactly is she to you?" He thought for a moment then figured it out.

As Lucy and Sara arrived at the dress shop they noticed a crowd forming near the entrance to the bank. Sara told Lucy she was going to feed the meter before going in. But of course this met first Sara had to search the floor of her car for change. So Lucy took the opportunity to see what all the fuss was about. She wonder over to the sea of people and tried to swim through but the current was too strong. She ended up tip toeing over a few people. From what she could see it looked like a hostage situation and she knew he wouldn't be far behind. He always showed up when there was trouble. Lucy found herself hoping he would show up to save the day just like he always did. She just wanted to see him, she didn't even have to be the one being saved. All she wanted was to be near him. All of a sudden she felt this unbearable pain. The thought of being near him terrified her. 'Why?' She could feel herself losing it. Then she felt a warm hand grab her shoulder.

Sara:"Lucy?"

Lucy:"Oh sorry."

Sara:"Lets get inside."

They tried on dresses for what seemed like hours. Finally Lucy picked out a form fitting midnight blue dress it was simple yet elegant. After Sara drove her home and they parted ways.

...The night of the party...

Lucy arrived an hour late to the party. She thought coming late would give Sara enough time to have a few drinks so they could have fun. And sure enough she was the very first person to greet her when she walked through the doors. The second was an older man who claimed to be Bruce's butler. Sara handed her a glass of champagne and pulled her along to meet some of the doctors.

Bruce sat at one of the computers in the Batcave. He rested his head on his knuckles and observed his other hand. Alfred walked in carrying his suit for the party. And placed it on a nearby chair.

Alfred:"I'll leave it here Master Bruce."

Then he headed towards the stairs. But Bruce stopped him before he could take his first step.

Bruce:"Alfred, wait."

Alfred:"Yes. Sir?"

He took a moment to tell him all about the other night. He told him about Lucy, the alley, the gun, and his hands.

Alfred:"Perhaps you were scared."

Bruce:"Scared of what?"

Alfred:"Of losing someone you care about the same way you lost your parents."

He walked back up the stairs and once he was at the top he yelled one final thing at Bruce.

Alfred:"Do try to hurry Sir, you are the host after all."

After changing into a suit he didn't particularly care for he put on a smile and entered the room.

Lucy began noticing faces from work and felt obligated to greet them and make small talk. She started having a conversation with one of her co-works when she started daydreaming about Batman. Unfortunately she was interrupted by a warmth coming from her shoulder. She turned around to see a tall man with curly hair and blue eyes staring at her with a smile. A moment later he introduced himself.

???:"Hi, I'm Clark Kent."
