Chapter15:Jealous

After their conversation Bruce went to the restroom to calm down he took a few deep breaths then returned to the party. When he entered the room he searched for Lucy but couldn't seem to find her. After pushing his way through party guests he found Sara flirting with one of the doctors. He grabbed her by the arm and led her to the side of the room.

Bruce:"Where's Lucy?"

Sara:"Um...well she was right beside me a moment ago..."

He could smell the alcohol on her breath. He inhaled sharply then walked away, only to return to take the champagne glass from her hand. Then he said in a stern voice.

Bruce:"No more drinks for you."

He was stopped a few times by guest wanting to discuss his views on politics so he chatted for a moment then excused himself. After a couple minutes of searching he realized he hadn't seen Clark since their conversation earlier. Alfred was standing near the entrance so he made his way over to him, but he hadn't seen either of them in awhile. Before he could thank Alfred he felt someone tugging on his sleeve. He turned around to see a small, scrawny man looking up at him. Realizing it was Justin from accounting he said hello.

Justin:"Um...I think I might know where Lucy is."

He explained that while he and Lucy were having a conversation a handsome reporter interrupted them and asked to speak with her alone. 'Clark!' He thanked him then walked away. He began asking around but didn't have luck until he passed the balcony. When he opened the doors a comfortable breeze greeted him. He stepped out and looked down at the courtyard to see Lucy and Clark sitting close together on a stone bench. By this point Bruce was beyond pissed he whispered something then Clark looked up. They made eye contact and held it a moment then Clark turned his attention to Lucy who was still talking. After she finished they got up and walked back inside. An older man told Bruce the board members wanted him to say a few words. As he took the stage he spotted Lucy and Clark coming in together. Lucy said goodbye to Clark and joined Sara to listen to his speech. He said a few words about the hospital and how honored he was to be apart of the board, after he thanked everyone he stepped off the stage. He made a b-line for Lucy. Sara saw him coming and gave Lucy a heads up.

Sara:"Moneybags 2 o'clock."

Bruce:"Can I speak with you in private?"

Sara:"Sure! Where're we going?"

Bruce:"I met Lucy."

She rolled her eyes then whispered to Lucy.

Sara:"Sorry. I tried."

She followed him down a long hallway into a dark room with many windows. He poured a drink then handed it to her but she declined so he put the glass to his lips and drank. After the glass was empty he took a deep breath then spoke.

Bruce:"So you've met Clark."

Lucy:"...Yes."

Bruce:"He's a reporter."

Lucy:"I know...Bruce is there something important you wanted to talk about?"

He moved closer to her and she backed away. She pressed her back against the door and he moved even closer then looked her in the eyes.

Bruce:"What were the two of you talking about?"

Lucy:"Nothing. All we talked about was you."

Bruce:"What else?"

Lucy:"Nothing! Why are you so hostile?!"

Bruce:"Stay away from him."

Lucy:"What? Why?"

Bruce:"He's trouble."

Lucy:"No he's not! You're the one who's trouble!"

She opened the door to leave but his hand slammed it closed.

Bruce:"Look, I'm trying to protect you."

Lucy:"Protect me?! Were you trying to protect me that night you left me alone? Or maybe you're just jealous!"

Bruce:"Lucy!"

Lucy:"You're not my father. I'm an adult and I'll do whatever I want."

This time when she tried to leave he didn't stop her. He moved to the window and watched as she and Sara got into a cab.

Later that night after the party had ended he sat alone in his cave, thinking. He put on his mask and got into the batmobile then he heard Alfred say something.

Alfred:"Going somewhere Master Bruce?"

Bruce:"Out."

He drove to nearby ally and parked his car, then he climbed to the roof of the closet building. It was across the street from Lucy's apartment and he could see her window perfectly. The light was still on so he assumed Sara must have gone home with her. 'Jealous?' Was he jealous? He didn't know, he thought he was doing the right thing. 'All I want is to protect her because I-' His thoughts were interrupted when he felt his presence.

Batman:"What are you doing here?"

Superman:"I saw your car so I figured you would be here."

Batman:"Go home Clark."

Superman:"Why do keep pushing me away? All I want to do is help you protect what's important to you."

Batman:"What would you know about what's important to me?"

Superman:"All Lucy could talk about was you. You can't do everything by yourself Bruce that's why you have friends."

Batman:"I don't need-

There was a loud scream from Lucy's apartment. They both turned their attention towards it. Clark turned back to Batman but he was gone.
