9. Moving On

Feng Jiu woke up to the sound of foraging birds pecking on her windows.

She rubbed her eyes tiredly and looked out the window. "What time is it now?" she wondered. Although she was still feeling drowsy, her headache was completely gone.

Feng Jiu then unplugged her phone from the charger and checked the time. It was already 2 PM in the afternoon. It was undeniably a good sleep and she really needed that rest.

Both Cha Cha and Cheng Yu left text messages for Feng Jiu, in their group chat. They knew she was in low spirits and they were especially concerned about her.

Cha Cha: Are you feeling better, Feng Jiu? We are both here for you if you need a crying shoulder!

Cheng Yu: How about we meet up for drinks tonight and try to forget about everything?

This suggestion pleased her and she replied, "Actually, it is a good idea to head out for some drinks tonight. Breathing in some fresh air would definitely help me feel better too. I will see you both at 6 PM, at our usual hang-out spot."

--------------------------------------

Feng Jiu arrived early and sat down at the table, waiting for Cha Cha and Cheng Yu to arrive.

Knowing that Feng Jiu was feeling depressed, they both surprised her with a small gift, a giant cuddly plush. When Feng Jiu saw the gift, her mood instantly lifted.

She was comforted at the thought of her friends' effort to cheer her up. With a faint smile on her face now, she thought to herself, "I know things haven't been going well for me lately but at least I know that I still have two amazing friends like them."

Feeling contented, Feng Jiu knew that she had to pull herself together and stay strong since she didn't want to worry her friends.

"I will definitely forget Dong Hua and move on!" Feng Jiu thought to herself firmly.

Feng Jiu signaled for the waiter to come over while saying to her friends, "It's Saturday night and we don't have work tomorrow. Let's get drunk tonight and forget about all my unhappiness!"

--------------------------------------

Feng Jiu sighed and slowly sat up in bed while hugging on to the giant plush that was given by her friends.

Feeling glum, she was dreading the idea of heading back to work. Feng Jiu no longer looks forward to Mondays like she used to do. The sight of Dong Hua and Ji Heng would remind her of what she had experienced.

It was still painful for her.

"It will be over soon, I just have to endure another week. I can do this!" Feng Jiu nodded her head and reminded herself.

Much to her disappointment, Feng Jiu encountered Dong Hua, accompanied by Ji Heng at the office building's entrance.

Feng Jiu quickly hid and waited for them to go off as she doesn't want to be seen by them.

With a heavy heart, she watched them from afar. His treatment of Jiheng was indeed different. Dong Hua was always cold and indifferent to others, especially towards the opposite gender but he seems to be comfortable around Ji Heng.

The more she watched them, the more devastated she became.

Feng Jiu bowed her head, frowned and thought to herself, "It was understandable why Dong Hua liked Ji Heng. Not only could she help him with work, but she could also keep him company by having conversations with him."

The more Fengjiu thought about it, the more she was convinced that Dong Hua only has eyes for Ji Heng, and sadness once again took over her.

--------------------------------------

In a blink of an eye, it was finally Feng Jiu's last day at work.

Although she felt relieved that it was all over, she couldn't help but feel sad too. After all, she had many happy memories working in Tai Chen Group.

A smile gradually displayed on Feng Jiu's face as she convinces herself, that she had done whatever she could to repay Dong Hua's kindness.

Despite everything, he paid no attention to her and she was insignificant in comparison with Ji Heng. He never knew she loved him, nor the things she had done for him.

Although she was still overwhelmed with regrets, she knew that there wasn't even the slightest chance for them to be together.

It could only mean that they were never fated, to begin with.
