21. The First Night

"What can I help you with, Jiu-er?"

Dong Hua was following Feng Jiu around the kitchen, acting like a curious kid.

"It's fine. I can handle it. Watch some TV while waiting. Also, it will be hard for me to cook if you're following me around like that." Feng Jiu pushed Dong Hua out of the kitchen.

"Are you sure?" Dong Hua pouted.

"Yes. Go now! Dinner will be served soon." Feng Jiu then hurried back to the kitchen and started cooking.

----------------------------------------

"Mmmmm, it smells so good! I can't wait to eat!" Dong Hua excitedly hovers around the dining table.

Feng Jiu was a great cook, and she made two dishes and a soup for dinner.

Then she laid the utensils on the dining table and scooped a bowl of rice for Dong Hua.

"We can start eating now." Feng Jiu said to the excited Dong Hua.

Dong Hua devoured the food, as it was very delicious. Feng Jiu smiled while looking at Dong Hua eat. She was delighted to see him enjoy the food that she made.

"My Jiu-er is indeed talented, and she's good at everything!" Dong Hua exclaimed after he finished eating.

"It's just a simple meal. Nothing special at all." Feng Jiu casually replied.

"Everything that you do is special to me, Jiu-er!"

Feng Jiu blushed and quickly got up to put away the leftovers dishes while trying to hide her shyness.

----------------------------------------

"Dong Hua is so shameless, and he doesn't even feel embarrassed saying those sweet nothings to me!" Feng Jiu thought to herself while washing the dishes.

She glanced over to the living room to see Dong Hua happily watching TV.

Out of a sudden, a wave of sadness hit her and these thoughts came flooding into her mind.

"I have to remind myself that this isn't real. Once Dong Hua remembers everything, he will have to return to his old life and leave everything behind, including me."

Tears fell from her eyes instantly but she quickly wiped it away, afraid that Dong Hua would see her crying.

Then she tried to divert her attention by cutting some fruits for Dong Hua to eat.

----------------------------------------

"Come eat some fruits, Dong Hua." She said as she walked towards the living room.

"Yay! You're the best, Jiu-er! You really take good care of me." Dong Hua gave an innocent smile.

They sat together and watched a movie on the TV while eating fruits.

Soon, Feng Jiu started feeling sleepy and yawned a few times.

"Are you tired, Jiu-er? You should go to bed if you're feeling sleepy as I know you have work tomorrow."

"I guess so... Are you sure you'll be okay sleeping out here? If it's too cold, just wake me up, and I can get you another blanket." Feng Jiu tiredly asked.

"No, I'm not okay! I want to sleep in your room! If I'm cold, I'll just hop onto your bed and hug you for warmth!" Dong Hua playfully replied.

"......."

Feng Jiu knew that she asked the wrong question, but she didn't know what to reply as she was too tired.

"I'm just kidding! Go to sleep now, Jiu-er! Good night!" Dong Hua then pushed her to get up from the sofa and urged her to go to bed.

Feng Jiu quickly went into the bathroom to brush her teeth and set the alarm on her phone for tomorrow morning.

Within minutes, she passed out on her bed in exhaustion.

-------------------------------------

The next morning.

*Beep Beep Beep*

Dong Hua woke up to the sound of a ringing alarm that was emitting from Feng Jiu's room. It was going on for some time, so he got up and knocked on her door.

".........."

There was no response from Feng Jiu.

"Jiu-er, I'm coming in now!" Dong Hua yelled before entering her room.

Dong Hua found Feng Jiu sprawled out on her bed, with a pillow under her leg, and the blanket on the floor. It appeared that she had kicked her blanket off the bed in her sleep.

He shook his head and thought to himself, "She looked so cute, even when she has such bad sleeping habits."

Dong Hua turned the alarm off and picked up the blanket that was lying on the floor. Then he drew the curtains open to let the sunlight in.

The sun shone directly on Feng Jiu's face. She immediately grabbed the pillow that was under her leg and covered her face with it. She was acting like a vampire that was afraid of the sunlight.

"Wake up, you sleepy head! You're going to be late for work if you don't wake up now." Dong Hua said while trying to drag Feng Jiu out of her bed.

"I don't want to get up! Just let me sleep for another 5 minutes!" Feng Jiu struggled to lay in bed.

"No, you need to wake up now!" Dong Hua then bent down and carried her off the bed.

"Fine, I'm already awake! Put me down now!" Feng Jiu exclaimed while kicking her legs.

Feng Jiu immediately ran into the bathroom in embarrassment after Dong Hua put her down.

"She's such a baby, what would she do without me?" Dong Hua happily thought to himself with a satisfied smile on his face.

-------------------------------------

"I'm leaving for work now, Dong Hua. If you need anything, you can call me on the house phone. There are leftovers in the fridge, just heat it to eat if you're feeling hungry. If you're bored, watch some TV. Also, don't leave the house while I'm at work, just in case you lose your way home!" Feng Jiu nagged at Dong Hua before leaving the house.

She was worried about leaving Dong Hua alone, but she didn't have a choice.

"Don't worry about me; I'll be fine being home alone. I'll miss you while you're gone, though."

Dong Hua was more than happy to hear her nag because he thinks that Feng Jiu cared about him.

"You're so mushy, quickly head back in and remember to lock the door!" Feng Jiu then waved goodbye to Dong Hua and went in the lift.

-------------------------------------

Now that Feng Jiu was gone, Dong Hua suddenly felt lonely. After all, they did spend all their time together during the past week.

He looked around the apartment, trying to find something to occupy his time.

Dong Hua then decided to clean the whole apartment. He also decided that he would cook dinner tonight because he wanted Feng Jiu to rest after she's back from a long day at work.

He was elated because he felt like they were becoming like a real married couple. He also wanted to contribute to the household.

Dong Hua smiled internally and started on the house chores. He did everything from washing the clothes to mopping the floors.

Growing up as an orphan, Dong Hua learned how to do everything on his own. He was still surprisingly good at it even though he lost his memory. I guess it all boils down to instinct, that once you learned to do something, you will never really forget it.

Dong Hua finally completed all the house chores. He walked into the kitchen, put on an apron, and prepared to start cooking.

"Hmm... What should I cook for Jiu-er?" He pondered.

Even though Dong Hua couldn't remember anything about his past, he somehow recalled that he had a signature dish. It appears that his memory was slowly coming back.

"I know! I can cook for her my signature dish!" He excitedly exclaimed, and he started to get busy with cooking.

I can't wait for Jiu-er to try my signature dish!
