chapter 14 - The Sword and the Spirit

From 5.04 "Condition Terminal", in the middle of the road, Tara and Malia were receiving their memories of the fire and the car crash.

Tara: (voice over) "Previously on Worlds Colliding (Teen Wolf)"

From 3.13 "Anchors", outside the clinic, Scott, Stiles, Stacie and Ari were talking to Sheriff.

"Eight years ago, almost an entire family died in a car accident," Sheriff told them.

From 3.14 "More Bad Than Good", in the woods, Adriana had roared an Alpha roar to turn Malia from a coyote to a human. Malia was naked and dirty, looking around.

Sheriff: (voice over from 3.13 Anchors) "A young girl named Malia was never found."

From 5.04 "Condition Terminal", in the road, Malia was remembering that the Desert Wolf was behind the car accident.

Desert Wolf: (voice over from 5.08 Ouroboros) "My daughter is still alive."

From 5.08 "Ouroboros", in the tunnels in Russian, the Desert Wolf looked at Deaton. "I'm just going to have kill her again."

From 5.12 "Damnatio Memoriae", in Lydia's cell, Lydia and Meredith were watching Lydia's catatonic body.

"I'm going to show you how to use your voice as a weapon," Meredith told her.

From 5.13 "Codominance", in the school hallway, the Beast walked toward the Dread Doctors, Theo and Tracy.

Chris: (voice over from 5.12 Damnatio Memoriae) "Tell me what it is."

From 5.12 "Damnatio Memoriae", in the nursing home, Chris and Gerard were talking.

"Not what it is, what it was," Gerard told him.

From 5.11 "The Last Chimera", in the operating theater, the painting of the three beasts fighting was shown.

Gerard: (voice over from 5.12 Damnatio Memoriae) "A monster whose only purpose was to kill."

From 5.12 "Damnatio Memoriae", in the nursing home, Gerard looked at Chris. "The Beast of Gevaudan."

From 5.13 "Codominance", in the empty classroom, Adriana and Theo were talking.

"It seems like the balance between you and Ari is shifting slower than I thought it would," Theo told her. "This anger you feel, the darkness, it's consuming you, isn't it? You want help controlling it? Just ask me."

Theo let Adriana beat him so that she could release the darkness and the anger so she didn't explode.

Theo: (voice over from 5.13 Codominance) "Because it's just gonna keep building up and up until you finally snap, and you lash out."

Adriana turned to face Theo angrily. "I'm not brainwashed!"

"You were," Theo told her. "We both were. Will you believe me if I told you that the Desert Wolf has Deaton hostage?" Adriana looked at him in surprise. "And I can help you find them."

Day One

Night - Tunnels

Chris and Gerard were searching a network of tunnels, discussing the Beast of Gevaudan. Both of them were holding guns.

Gerard found black soot on the tunnel wall, touching it.

"What is that?" Chris asked.

"You might call it a fingerprint," Gerard answered.

"This isn't going to look like anything we've seen before, is it?" Chris asked.

"Oh, there were a lot of descriptions of the Beast of Gevaudan," Gerard told him. "Everything from a red-furred giant wolf to a cloven-hoofed panther the size of a horse. But my grandfather gave me a description that was a bit stranger."

"How strange?" Chris asked.

"He said the body was oil black," Gerard answered. "Solid but shapeless at the same time. Like a shadow pretending to be real."

"How do we stop it?" Chris asked.

"As far as legend goes, the only weapon that proved effective was a simple spear in the hands of a young woman," Gerard told him.

"The Maid of Gevaudan," Chris stated.

"Mm-hmm," Gerard answered.

Gerard and Chris came to a split in the tunnels, nodding to each other, splitting up.

¤•¤°¤•¤

Another Tunnel

Chris heard a scurrying, scuttling sound rustling somewhere in the tunnel, walking along.

¤•¤°¤•¤

Another Tunnel

Gerard walked along. He could hear the clicking noises and the hissing of the Dread Doctors approaching.

Two Dread Doctors walked closer.

Gerard backed away from the two Dread Doctors, pulling out one of the hunters ultrasonic emitters, embedding it into the wall.

The doctors seemed unable to advance.

Gerard smirked. "That's right. I know your frequency. And I also know you're down here for a reason. I wonder what that could be."

Gerard walked away, leaving the Dread Doctors motionless behind the ultrasonic emitter.

¤•¤°¤•¤

Another Tunnel

Chris followed the scurrying sound to its source, a grate in the floor of the tunnel. He dropped a flare into the grate.

Thousands of insects, the source of the noise, scattered from the flame, revealing a pile of dead bodies in the water beneath the tunnels.

Chris was horrified but not shocked.

There was a black wolf with red eyes.

Scott looked up. He blinked. When he opened his eyes, they were glowing red.

Scott stood alone in a cloud of dust or smoke. Tyler Posey.

Stiles stood at a translucent crime board, adding a few things. Dylan O'Brien.

Stacie looked straight ahead, holding a crossbow in hand, holding it pointing up in front of her face, looking straight ahead. Zoey Deutch.

A Dread Doctor's face appeared.

Ari and Adriana stood back to back. Ari looked to the left, holding her motorcycle helmet in her hands, the irises of her eyes glowing red. Adriana looked to the right, tracing her double infinity tattoo on her wrist, her eyes glowing completely purple. There was water sprinkles everywhere as they both looked up. Katherine McNamara.

Scott and Tara kissed passionately, pulling away.

Tara stood with her back toward you, looking over her shoulder, black blood covering her skin, her body reflecting each other. Victoria Justice.

On the back of Tara's hand, a triskele appeared. The spirals were black. The tip of one spiral was Beta blue. The tip of one spiral was Beta gold. The tip of one spiral was Alpha red. The intersection point was half-breed purple.

Lydia's hair covered her face, her hands held in front of her. She tossed her head back to get it to fall behind her. Holland Roden.

Natalie sat in a chair, half turned, her left leg to the left side of the chair, her right leg in front of it, her left arm lying on the back of the chair. Her eyes glowed gold. Sasha Pieterse.

A double infinity sign tattoo appeared on Adriana's wrist.

Malia was in the woods, her arms raised at her sides. Shelley Hennig.

Kira was in a fighting stance, holding her katana sword raised ready. Arden Cho.

Angel stood within fire, water and electricity, air blowing through her hair. She had her arms raised to her sides as if taking flight. Her eyes were glowing a dark, fiery gold. Ginny Gardner.

Natalie and Liam kissed slowly and softly.

Liam looked to the right. He was completely shifted. He returned to normal, looking straight forward, letting his eyes glow gold. Dylan Sprayberry.

On Scott's arm, two bands appeared, the top band thicker than the other.

The black blood pulled away from Tara's body, almost as it was never there.

Ari stared ahead, letting her eyes glow purple. The purple faded from her eyes, turning into red.

Scott stared ahead. His eyes glowed red. He tilted his head toward his chest.

Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital - Hallway

Jordan was in the hospital, watching as all of the bodies were wheeled by toward the morgue, looking horrified and in denial.

Angel walked toward him. "Jordan. Uncle Jordan." Jordan didn't answer. "JP." Jordan looked at Angel. "I know what you're thinking. That the dream's coming true. It's not."

"Angel, there's 23 bodies," Jordan told her. He looked away. "23 of them. I need to go back to the station and go through every mission persons report for the past two weeks, Angel."

"Okay," Angel told him timidly. "I'll, uh... I'll see you at home." Jordan nodded, walking away, leaving. The elevator doors behind Angel opened. Angel turned around to see Tara, Scott, Stiles, Stacie, Natalie and Liam stepping out of the elevator, walking toward them, looking at Stiles and Stacie. "Hey, how's your dad?"

"He's good, but he still needs some rest before he's ready to get back into the game," Stiles answered.

They watched as more bodies were wheeled past them.

"Who found them?" Stacie asked.

"Argent," Scott answered. "And he said that the Doctors were down there."

"What is this thing?" Angel asked. "I mean, Chayton called it the Beast, but what is it exactly?"

"We've got a theory," Tara told her.

"A slightly terrifying theory," Stacie told her.

"Well, Jordan said the vics were killed somewhere else and then dumped in those tunnels," Angel told them.

"What if the Dread Doctors are hiding the bodies?" Scott asked.

"Why would they do that?" Stiles asked.

"Maybe they're covering for it," Stacie answered. "Protecting it like a parent would."

"Protecting what, Natalie?" Liam asked.

"It's called the Beast," Natalie told them.

"From what Adriana tells me, Ari thinks that it's the Beast of Gevaudan," Tara told them. "And it's looking more and more like she's right."

"We know, horrifying," Stiles told them. He looked at Tara. "And Ari's always right."

Tara nodded in agreement.

Natalie, Scott and Stacie managed small smirks.

Angel sighed deeply. "Well, we better figure out who it is and how to stop it, because it looks like Jordan's dream is coming true."

 Eichen House - Hallway

Lydia was hitting the gate in front of her, giving a little shriek, breathing heavily.

Meredith was on the other side of the gate. "I said use your hands. I didn't say punch the gate."

"Well, it's all a little new to me, so, don't hold back on specificity," Lydia told her.

"Your hands can guide your voice," Meredith told her. "They can help push it towards the target. Try again."

"How did you learn?" Lydia asked.

Meredith looked nervous and guilty, shaking her head. "It doesn't matter. You have to find your own way."

"What if your way works for me, too?" Lydia asked.

"Lydia, find your way," Meredith told her.

"But none of this is even real," Lydia told her. "My body's lying in a room down the hall staring at the ceiling."

Meredith held her hands toward Lydia to held guide her voice, releasing a Banshee scream, using it as a force to push Lydia back into a cell behind her, making Lydia hit the wall and fall to the floor. She appeared outside the cell. "Did that feel real?"

Meredith closed the cell door between them.

"What are you doing?" Lydia asked.

Meredith locked Lydia in the cell. "You want out? Break the glass."

Lydia tilted her head, standing, walking toward the glass door of the cell to look at Meredith on the other side. "It's not just glass. It's bullet-resistant polycarbonate."

"So make your voice a bullet," Meredith told her. "Break the glass." Lydia took a deep breath, preparing to scream. "Break the glass."

Day Two

Morning - Beacon Hills High School - Girls' Locker Room

(Song:) Sacrifice - Zella Day

Adriana was getting dressed after gym, the last girl in the locker room, pulling her shirt on. She looked over her shoulder, rolling her eyes. "I know you're there. Theo, come out, come out, wherever you are."

Theo walked closer, leaning against the locker behind her. "Figured I'd find you here."

Adriana turned to face him. "What are you doing here in the girls' locker room?"

Theo smirked in amusement. "Oh, like you and your little girlfriends haven't been in the boys' locker room way more than you should have been?" Adriana ignored the comment because she knew he was right. "I told you that I could help."

"And I don't trust you," Adriana told him. "Not anymore."

"I don't blame you," Theo told her. "If you think that I actually wanted to hurt you, you're wrong. But you seem to be in more control of your emotions and yourself than you were yesterday. Why do you think that is, Adriana?"

Adriana gave him a sarcastic look. "Because you let me beat the hell out of you so I didn't explode on someone innocent or someone that I cared about. It looked like you took a little too much pleasure out of that, Theo." Theo smirked. "Just because you helped me then and convinced the Dread Doctors not to kill me, but to go through a big charade of things to hurt Scott, Stacie, Ari, Lydia, Natalie, Chayton, and everybody, doesn't mean that I trust you anymore than I did yesterday."

Theo sighed, nodding, having expected this, taking out a large needle. "This might be a more solid fix for whatever darkness is going through your head. It's not permanent, and it'll wear off, but we could give it a shot."

"You--you're kidding," Adriana told him.

Theo chuckled. "Look, I promised I'd help, and I will."

"That's supposed to keep the dark urges and anger away?" Adriana asked.

"No," Theo answered. "It'll just give you more control over yourself. And it'll knock you out for maybe half an hour, and I'll take you somewhere where we can get something to help us find Deaton. Something in the Dread Doctors' operating theater is going to do that. I can take you there, but I can't let you see where it is."

"Ever hear of a blindfold?" Adriana asked sarcastically.

"Not one that works on a half-breed," Theo answered, just as sarcastic.

"Why can't you let me see where it is?" Adriana asked suspiciously.

"Because if the Dread Doctors think that you know too much of their plans or what's coming, they're going to kill you whether I try to stop them or not," Theo answered. "They tried to have both you and Ari killed the night before school started, and they tried to kill you repeatedly since then because they didn't want you to remember. I'm lucky I managed to talk them into letting you live."

"So, what, Theo, now you're my hero?" Adriana asked skeptically, sarcastically.

Theo smiled. "No. I'm just the guy keeping you alive."

Adriana didn't respond for a moment, just looking at him, rolling her eyes to push him away again, looking at the needle. "What's in it?"

"Wolfsbane," Theo answered. "It won't last, and there's no permanent side effects. It might actually help you fight the darkness inside of you. Help you keep control."

"Give me one good reason why I should trust you," Adriana told him.

"Other than the fact that we were prisoners to the Dread Doctors for two years before I helped you escape them when we were 14, and have been trying to keep you alive since we came to town?" Theo asked. "Also trying to help you control yourself so you don't do something that you regret." He held up the needle with the wolfsbane. "This could be the only thing that can help you."

"And how incredibly convenient that it will knock me out so you can take me to the Dread Doctors' lair," Adriana told him. Theo chuckled. "How do I know that you're not still working with them? Or that they're not still brainwashing you into crazy psychoticness?"

"You don't, Adri," Theo answered. "But it's a risk you'll have to take if you want to save Deaton, help Malia and Tara fight the Desert Wolf, and make sure that the darkness of your bond with Ari doesn't take you over completely like it did when you were an Alpha. If you want to go that dark, go evil again, like that, that's fine. But if you don't, let me help you. You know that without this, you'll end up snapping and hurting or killing someone." Adriana sighed, knowing that she didn't really have a choice, not liking to have to admit that Theo was right about that part, stepping closer. Theo smirked slightly in amusement. "You're gonna have to come closer than that." Adriana knew full well that Theo could come closer to her, but since he had what she wanted and needed, that he would want to make her come to him. She gave him a look, which he smirked back to because he knew that she figured him out in the moment. Adriana, frustrated but resigned and a little chagrined to the point that she had a slight blush in her cheeks, took a step closer. Theo watched her expectantly, smiling slightly. "Closer."

Adriana stepped closer until they were face to face, tilting her head slightly in a silent invitation for the injection, looking him in the eye. Theo placed a hand on the side of Adriana's head, placing the tip of the needle against her neck, looking at Adriana for confirmation. Neither of them looked away.

"Do it," Adriana told him.

Theo injected the needle of wolfsbane into Adriana's neck. Adriana's eyes glowed purple as it took affect.

As Adriana started to fall unconscious, Theo caught her in his arms, lifting her off the floor. He looked at her sleeping in his arms, looking peaceful for a change, chuckling lightly, carrying her away.

Hallway

Ari was walking through the hallway.

The PA came on. "By the order of the Sheriff, a country-wide curfew goes into effect tonight at sundown. All after-school activities are cancelled until further notice. Students should go directly home at the end of the school day."

Deputies were walking through the hall with shotguns.

People in the hallway watched them walk away.

Ari saw Scott, Stacie and Stiles down the hallway talking to another deputy, slowing to a stop, not knowing what to do, walking toward her locker, listening to them.

"Strauss, I think this is a bit much in terms of fire power for a high school," Stiles told him.

"Your dad's the one who issued us these things, and he wouldn't officially say why," Strauss told them.

"Did he say anything unofficially?" Scott asked.

"No," Strauss answered. "But everyone's got a theory."

"What's yours?" Stiles asked.

"I shouldn't be talking to you guys," Strauss told them. "Don't you have class?"

"Come on, Strauss," Stacie told him. "What's your theory?"

"Do you guys believe in the supernatural?" Strauss asked.

Scott, Stacie and Stiles exchanged a seriously? look.

Down the hallway, Ari looked up in annoyance of that question. She closed her locker, turning to walk down the hallway.

Scott, Stacie and Stiles saw Ari down the hallway, looking as if they didn't know what to do, either, but like they knew they had to do something. Ari saw that they saw her, looking guilty and in incredible pain because of what happened, turning around, walking away. Scott, Stacie and Stiles were pained by her reaction because they saw for themselves how much pain she was in instead of just hearing about it from Adriana, watching Ari walk down the hallway.

Ken's Classroom

Ken Yukimura was taking Kira's sword away.

"Dad, are you sure about this?" Kira asked. "I mean, how am I supposed to help my friends if I can't fight?"

"You still know how to fight," Ken told her.

"But I'm better with a sword," Kira told him.

"Then, as a teacher and a lover of history, maybe I can inspire you with a quote," Ken told her.

Kira sighed. "Oh, God."

Ken smiled a little at her reaction. "Napoleon said, 'There are only two forces in the world, the sword and the spirit. In the long run, the sword will always be conquered by the spirit'."

"I thought it was the spirit I was trying to conquer," Kira told him.

"Your spirit, Kira," Ken told her. "You're still stronger than the fox. Remember that."

"But I'm useless without a weapon," Kira told him. "I'm useless to my friends."

"You always have a weapon," Ken told her. "The most powerful weapon of all."

Kira gave him a look. "If you tap me on the forehead and say, 'Your mind is your most powerful weapon', I'm going to scream."

Ken chuckled. "I wasn't going to tap you on the forehead. But... the sword is a gateway to the fox. And the fox is too dangerous." Kira sighed, knowing he was right. "Your mind is a weapon, Kira. Trust yourself. You can outfox the fox."

Ken released the clasp on the sword's hilt. It broke into its component parts that Kira had fixed in 3.21 Foxes and Wolves, the shattered pieces of the sword scattering over the desk.

Operating Theater

Adriana was coming to in the operating theater, strapped to an examination table. She was obviously uncomfortable because it brought back newly recovered memories of her childhood with the Dread Doctors, struggling, but the wolfsbane in her system kept her weakened. She looked around, finding Theo at the table nearby, looking at him in annoyance. "What the hell is this?" Theo looked toward her. "I didn't sign up for this 50 Shades of Raeken bull."

Theo smiled in amusement, laughing lightly, walking closer. "Sure you did, Adri." Adriana gave him a sarcastic look. "Safety first. I said I'd help you find Deaton and the Desert Wolf. I didn't say it was gonna be easy. The restraints are to keep you from hurting yourself." Theo picked up a pair of goggles. "Or me."

Theo pushed a button on the Dread Doctors' goggles, making spikes poke out around the eyeholes.

Adriana tilted her head in frustration and exasperation, comically. "Oh, come on."

Theo couldn't help but chuckle at her reaction. "I see you remember these." Adriana nodded, looking away, rolling her eyes, not at him, but at the memories. "This is what the Dread Doctors used to keep track of the Chimeras, including me. It's what helped them find out about you before you were even turned into a Werewolf. It seeks out and hones in on certain frequencies. They gave the Chimeras their own unique vibration."

"So how is that going to help me find Deaton?" Adriana asked.

"Humans have their own unique frequencies, too," Theo told her, picking up one of Deaton's lab coats. "And having something that belongs to them can help you track them. It's how the Dread Doctors always knew where you were, Adri."

Adriana rolled her eyes, sighing. "What, you're going to teach me physics? Or are you going to put your little torture device on my head and get this thing started?"

"You have to concentrate on exactly who you want to find," Theo told her. "You have to make a connection to a memory of that person. Do you have a memory of Deaton?"

Adriana nodded. "Yeah. He's one of the ones that helped my redemption and freedom from the Alpha Pack possible. He helped me save the lives of two of my friends from the Alpha Pack. Ethan and Aiden. They were twins, too. Ethan's still alive, but..." She gazed off. "Aiden's dead. He died later on."

"Focus on the memory of Deaton helping you save them, about him helping you and your pack get you free from the Alphas," Theo told her.

"Why can't you put that thing on?" Adriana asked suspiciously.

"Maybe I'm not powerful enough to use it," Theo answered. "But you are. That, and you have memories of Deaton, whereas I don't. This is gonna hurt."

Adriana sighed. "I'm used to pain and torture. You know that better than anyone."

Theo raised his eyebrows in acknowledgement, putting the goggles over Adriana's eyes. Adriana sighed, steeling herself, laying her head back. Theo pushed the button to activate the goggles. The spikes of the goggles forced their way into the skin around Adriana's eyes, making her groan a scream of pain. Theo flinched slightly at the sound, uncomfortable because he was flashing back to the many days and years that they both had been trapped and tortured by the Dread Doctors, remembering them both trying to help each other while the other had been screaming. Adriana gasped for breath to calm herself down and quiet herself, gripping the lab coat against the table in one of her hands. Blood streamed down her cheeks like tears of blood.

"Don't close your eyes, Adriana," Theo told her. "Keep them open." He took her hand, taking part of her pain so she could open her eyes, making black veins trail from hers to his, tracing his thumb over the double infinity sign tattoo, which helped her calm down. "Adriana, open your eyes."

Adriana was able to open her eyes now that Theo was taking the pain, to see the Desert Wolf tying Deaton to a chair in a warehouse with a sign named Fort Jewett.

"The full moon, I'm telling you," Deaton told her. "It has to be the full moon."

Adriana had managed to break free from the restraints because of the pain, falling to her knees. Theo took the goggles off of her head, kneeling next to her, putting a hand on her back to calm her down, using his other arm to hold her wrist and trace the tattoo.

Adriana gasped for breath in relief now that the pain was over, blood still dripping down her face. "I know where they are. They're here. They're in Beacon Hills."

Beacon Hills High School - Hallway

Ari was walking through the hallway. She looked down the way to see Natalie, Angel and Liam talking, looking at them in guilt, turning around to walk the opposite way.

Malia walked toward her. "Hey, Ari. You can't avoid everyone forever."

"Look who's talking," Ari replied.

Malia shrugged slightly. "Have you talked to Adriana?"

"Not since this morning," Ari answered. "Why?"

"Because she called me to tell me to find you and tell you something," Malia answered. "We need you to tell Scott something for us."

"Uh, why me?" Ari asked.

"Because we can't right now," Malia answered. "You gonna do it or not?"

"Uh, you should get someone else," Ari told her. "Literally, anyone else."

"No, Adriana specifically told me to come tell you to tell Scott," Malia told her. "She wants you to stop avoiding him and make up with him."

Ari sighed, nodding, rolling her eyes. "Sounds like Adri."

"Just tell him he was right about the tunnels," Malia told her. "Just tell him that, okay?"

"What do you mean?" Ari asked.

"When we were down there looking for Chayton and Hayden, we didn't know it yet, but we were a lot closer than we thought," Malia told her. "There's an operating theater down there. Down in the tunnels."

"How do you know?" Ari asked.

"Because Adriana told me," Malia answered. "She was down there. She's helping me and Tara with something. Just tell Scott, okay? Tell him he was right."

Malia walked away, leaving.

Ari sighed, considering, walking down the hallway.

¤•¤°¤•¤

Beacon Hills Animal Clinic - Backroom

Adriana, Tara and Malia were standing next to the table with pictures in front of them. Theo was standing across the table from them.

Malia looked at Tara. "What's the problem, Tara?"

"Besides the fact that I've never seen this place beyond a few aerial photos and we're basically going in blind?" Tara asked. She nodded to Theo. "Him."

"I'm coming with you," Theo told them.

Tara looked at Adriana. "Did you forget that he helped the Dread Doctors make your sister kill Scott to turn into an Alpha and break the balance between you two, the reason why you're starting to go dark again?"

"I'm the only reason why Adriana hasn't severely hurt anyone yet, Tara," Theo told her. He looked at Adriana, smirking. "Well, other than me. Isn't that right, Adri?" Adriana gave him a sarcastic look, looking away. Tara and Malia looked at Adriana to see if Theo was telling the truth, but she avoided their gazes because she knew that she could have very well hurt someone by now if it wasn't for Theo getting involved. "And the Dread Doctors wanted everyone dead. Mainly Adriana and Ari. I did what I had to do to survive, and to make sure they survived to. I convinced them that it could just be Scott. I knew that you guys were going to be able to bring Scott back because Adriana and Ari have the ability to give power for healing. If I hadn't done what I did, all of you would be dead."

Tara looked at Adriana and Malia. "You could still tell Natalie, Scott and Ari. I mean, Deaton is still Natalie's boss, too."

"When we have Deaton back," Malia told her.

"They're not going to blame you for the Desert Wolf taking him," Tara told her. "Even if you did practically dare the Desert Wolf to come after you."

"But they might stop me from killing her," Malia told her. "Adriana and Theo won't."

"Actually, I'm planning to help," Theo told them.

"Don't be so confident," Tara told them. "She's known to carry pretty heavy firepower."

"Tara, what does a Werecoyote need with guns?" Adriana asked.

"My mother told me a story about the Desert Wolf when I was a kid," Tara told them. "I don't know all the details, but something happened a long time ago. Somehow, she lost part of her power. She's not as fast or as strong as she used to be. But she can still pull a trigger, and she's a perfect shot."

"That's why I came to you, Tara," Malia told her. "You told me that you would help me with anything. I don't expect you to help me with my mother. But I know that you want to save Deaton. I'll take care of the Desert Wolf. You just get Deaton out of there."

"You can't fight against her alone," Tara told her.

"She won't be alone, Tara," Adriana told her. "She'll have us."

Tara still didn't like this, sighing.

Adriana knew that they didn't have much of a choice.

Malia sighed. "The sun's going down. We need to go. Are you coming or not?"

Tara sighed, glaring at Theo, giving Adriana and Malia a look, leading the way out of the clinic. Adriana and Malia followed. Theo hesitated a moment before following.

Tunnels

Ari went down into the tunnels alone, looking around, walking past a snake sculpture on the wall, coming to a side tunnel, looking into it to see Scott standing in the shadows.

"You lost?" Scott asked.

Ari sighed unevenly. "Completely." Scott walked closer. "How did you know I was down here?"

"I followed you," Scott answered, a little embarrassed by that fact.

Ari wasn't surprised, nodding. "Why are you following me?"

"Because you weren't talking to anyone," Scott answered. "Adriana said that if you didn't make the first move, that I would have to."

Ari sighed, looking away. "Sounds like Adri."

"Why are you down here?" Scott asked.

"I'm just trying to figure out if this is where they took Chayton and Hayden," Ari answered. "Malia said Adriana was down here, that she found an operating theater. Said you were right."

"Uh, there's a turn you keep passing," Scott told her. "It's easy to miss."

"How many times did you watch me pass it?" Ari asked.

"Five," Scott answered. Ari raised her eyebrows, nodding. "Come on. Let's see if we can find it together."

Scott and Ari walked along.

Night - Fort Jewett - Outside

Tara, Adriana, Malia and Theo were standing outside Fort Jewett.

"No guards," Tara told them. "No lights. This place looks completely abandoned."

"That should be easier for us, right?" Malia asked.

"Not necessarily," Tara answered. "Especially if she knows we're coming. Adriana, you're sure this is the place you saw?"

"Unless there's another Fort Jewett," Adriana answered.

"Maybe she left," Theo told them. "Maybe Deaton's already gone."

"I'm not walking away on a maybe," Malia told them.

"And I'm not walking in on so much uncertainty," Tara told her. "Malia, she knows what she's doing. She took Natalie and Scott's boss for a reason. We don't know what it is. We don't know if she's back in Beacon Hills because she's missed you all this time and can't wait for a mother-daughter reunion or if she's planning to put a bullet in your head. We don't know anything."

"We know one thing," Malia told her. "We know where she is. I'm going in. I have to."

Malia walked toward the building. Tara sighed, reluctantly following because she wouldn't let Malia go in alone.

Adriana and Theo exchanged a look, sighing, following Tara and Malia.

Eichen House - Cell

Lydia was locked in the same cell that Meredith had put her in, breathing heavily. "Meredith, please. Tell me how you did it."

"You have to find your own way," Meredith told her.

"Why can't you tell me yours?" Lydia asked.

"Because my way got people hurt," Meredith answered. "Some days it was quiet for me. Other days, all I could hear was screaming. People dying."

"What people?" Lydia asked.

"Everyone," Meredith answered. "Everywhere. I was at Chemistry class when it happened. I had my hands over my ears. The teacher was trying to figure out what was wrong. I took my hands and I started hitting the desk, until I couldn't take it anymore and I just screamed."

"What happened?" Lydia asked.

"All of the windows shattered," Meredith answered. "I saw kids with glass in their arms, in their faces. Some of them had blood coming out of their ears. They said it was an explosion... caused by chemicals. But everyone knew it was me. Find a better way, Lydia. My voice is like a bomb going off. Yours need to be a bullet."

Lydia heard a gun cocking, looking confused. "Did you hear that?" She turned around. The back of the cell disappeared. Lydia saw a cave, and Malia cowering in fear, while Tara had been shot in the stomach, and Adriana seemed to be paralyzed on the ground. Lydia was horrified, walking closer, but couldn't get to the premonition. "Malia? Tara? Adri!" She turned to Meredith. "Is this real? Or in my head?"

"I think you know what a Banshee premonition feels like," Meredith told her.

Malia was whimpering in fear.

A large, Beast-like shadow appeared over them.

Lydia watched her premonition in worry. "They're going to die."

Lydia's Cell

(Song:) Where's My Love - SYML

Stiles was visiting Lydia, still in a catatonic state in the real world, holding her hand. "Your teachers, uh, gave us some of the stuff you guys have been working on. They wanted us to hold on to it for you. I saw something about the, uh, Riemann Hypothesis. Um, things like, nontrivial zeros, zeta functions and a lot of other stuff that goes totally over my head." He chuckled. "Maybe you can wake up and explain it to me? Oh, come on, Lydia. You have to come back to us. There's no way we're getting through this without you. Lydia, you have to wake up."

(Song Ends)

Nicole walked in. "I think that's enough." Stiles stood to leave, but stopped when he noticed that a part of Lydia's head had been shaved behind her ear. "Stiles."

"Wait a second, what is this?" Stiles asked.

"All right, you need to go," Nicole told him.

"They shaved her head," Stiles told her. "Look at it. Did you--did you know about this? What are they gonna do, drill a hole into her head?"

"Are you crazy?" Nicole asked. "It's for E-C-T. Electroconvulsive therapy. They shave small portions of the scalp. It's done under general anesthesia and it's perfectly safe. Look at her, Stiles. She's my daughter. You don't think I'm trying everything I can to bring her out of this?"

"No, no, no, that's not E-C-T," Stiles told her.

The nurse from before walked in. "Is everything all right in here?"

"It's fine," Nicole answered. "Our guest is just leaving." Stiles looked at her. "Stiles, go. Or you're not coming back."

Stiles looked hurt, walking out of the cell.

The nurse walked toward Lydia. "All right, Lydia, time for your shower."

Hallway

Stacie was walking through the hallway of Eichen House with a visitor's pass on her jacket. She bumped into an orderly accidentally. "Sorry."

"No problem, Stacie," the orderly told her.

Stacie was sneaking an ID card off the orderly as she passed by, flipping it through the air as she continued to walk, catching it in her hand, walking out of the hallway.

¤•¤°¤•¤

Outside

Stiles was waiting by the Jeep.

Stacie walked out of the gate for Eichen House, walking toward Stiles.

Stiles turned to face her. "Hey, Stacie. Stacie, did you get it?"

Stacie held up the key card that she had swiped off the orderly. "I got it. We're the only ones allowed into the Closed Unit of Eichen House because of the Mountain Ash, Stiles. That's why no one else can visit Lydia. Or see her, until we get her out of here." Stiles nodded in agreement. "So let's get her the hell out of here."

Stiles smiled a little. "Stacie..."

"What?" Stacie asked.

Stiles smiled. "Thanks, Stacie. Seriously, Stace."

Stacie smiled.

Tunnels

Scott and Ari were still walking, feeling vibrations.

"Do you feel that?" Scott asked.

Ari nodded. "It's like something's vibrating."

"I can't tell where it's coming from," Scott told her.

Ari knelt to the floor, putting her hand over the ground, feeling the vibrations. She looked up at Scott. "It's coming from everywhere." She sighed, looking away. "I was just trying to do something right."

"You do a lot right," Scott told her. "More than anyone I know."

"Yeah, but I did one thing really wrong," Ari told him.

"I know what really happened, Ari," Scott told her. "It was the hecatolite, and the supermoon, and the poison in your veins. It wasn't you." Ari stood in frustration, turning away. "It doesn't matter."

Ari turned to face him. "It should. I killed you. I'm sorry. I'm so, so, so sorry."

"You brought me back," Scott told her.

Ari shook her head. "Why does everyone say that like it gets me a free pass? Like I somehow made up for it?"

"You did," Scott told her.

"No, I didn't," Ari told him. "Scott, you... we were bitten by the same Alpha. Peter bit us both, and we were working together ever since. It's like Adriana said. We fought against everything, and we fought against it together. You're... you're one of my best friends. You're like my brother. And... that's what makes this so hard, on top of everything. And nothing I say, nothing I do is going to justifiably say how much I'm truly sorry." She fought back tears, taking a deep breath. Scott was hurt by how much pain that he saw she was in. "I'm sorry, Scott. And I don't deserve your forgiveness. I don't deserve anything."

Scott wrapped his arms around Ari. Ari tried to keep from crying, returning the embrace.

"You might not think that you deserve forgiveness, but I do," Scott told her. They pulled away. "Because you're right. I may feel like a brother to you, and that means you feel like a sister to me." Ari wiped a tear away. "You're an Alpha now, Ari. And together, we can rebuild the pack in a way that we didn't before. We can make it stronger. We can be stronger, together. And fight against anything that comes our way and deal with it like we always do." Ari looked up at him. "Together. Okay?" Ari took a deep breath, nodding. "But not down here. We've been walking around for hours and all we've been able to find is some stupid snake sculpture on the wall." Ari frowned in confusion, turning to face the sculpture, walking closer. "You think it's important?"

Ari shrugged, turning the snake sculpture slowly at first, then all the way.

The vibrations wound down.

A panel in the wall slid open, revealing a door.

Scott and Ari exchanged a surprised look, walking toward the door, walking inside.

Operating Theater

Scott and Ari walked into the operating theater.

Chris aimed a gun at them until he realized who they were, putting the gun away.

Ari recognized a scent, looking at Chris. "You didn't."

"I had to," Chris told them.

Gerard walked out into view, smirking. "Hello, Scott. Hello, Arielle." Scott and Ari glared at him, letting their eyes glow red. "Well, I haven't seen that color on either of you. It suits both of you."

Scott and Ari let them eyes return to normal.

Ari looked at Chris. "What were you thinking?"

"That we need him," Chris answered.

"He's right," Gerard told them. "If you want to catch a Werewolf like the Beast of Gevaudan, you need more than one Argent."

Chris walked toward them. "He knows all the stories. All the folklore. Everything written and everything passed down."

Ari stepped closer. "Are you sure about this?"

Chris looked from Ari to Scott, nodding for them to follow him. "Take a look." Scott and Ari followed them into the operating theater, where the large painting on the wall showed the three beasts fighting. One was on fire. One had wings. One looked like the Beast. "The one on the right is the Beast of Gevaudan. You know what the other two are?"

Ari shook her head.

"No," Scott answered.

"The Hellhound and the Valkyrie," Gerard told them. "They're all creatures of the night, but you may know them as ordinary people during the day."

"And most likely none of them know what they are," Chris told them. Scott and Ari exchanged a look. Chris and Gerard looked at them. "What is it?"

"We know who the Hellhound and the Valkyrie are," Scott answered. "Our friend Angel. And Angel's uncle. Jordan Parrish and Angel Fain."

"And I found a message in Latin," Ari told them. "Damnatio Memoriae."

"They want it to remember itself," Gerard told them.

"That might give us time," Chris told them.

"Time for what?" Scott asked.

Chris walked toward the painting. "To prevent this."

Chris kicked the remaining wall covering the painting away, revealing skeletons and bodies underneath the Hellhound, the Valkyrie, and the Beast.

"Who are they?" Scott asked.

"Us," Ari answered. "It's all of us."

Fort Jewett

Malia, Tara, Adriana and Theo slowly made their way inside.

Adriana smelled something, chemosignals. "There's something wrong."

"Is it a scent?" Malia asked.

"Chemosignal," Adriana answered.

They walked around a truck to see Deaton tied to a chair in front of the far wall with tape over his mouth.

Theo came up from behind Adriana, slitting her in the neck with a knife laced with Kanima venom, making her gasp in pain and start to fall to the floor, catching Adriana as she fell, laying her down on the floor, kneeling next to her.

Malia and Tara heard Adriana gasp in pain, turning to face them in confusion.

The Desert Wolf took advantage of the distraction to walk out into the open, holding two guns, firing two shots in Malia and Tara in the stomachs, making them groan in pain and fall to the floor.

Theo still knelt next to Adriana, looking at her, pulling her hair out of her face so he could look her in the eyes. "It was me, wasn't it, Adri? The chemosignal you picked up, it was from me. Probably regret. Because I didn't really want to do this. But I didn't have a choice."

"What the hell are you talking about?" Adriana asked angrily.

The Desert Wolf walked closer. "I told him to use Tracy's Kanima venom to paralyze you, Adriana, to keep you out of the fight, while I fought Malia and Tara, or I would shoot you with the same wolfsbane-laced bullets that I shot Malia and Tara with, and you would be dying right now like they are as of this moment. Told him I would let you leave alive if he did."

Adriana looked at Theo in surprise, not sure how to react to this information, but her anger faded when she realized that he was trying to protect her in his own way. Theo looked at Adriana for a moment, standing.

The Desert Wolf had the jar of Belasko's power-stealing claws, tossing them to Theo.

Theo caught the jar. The claws started to glow blue.

Theo let his eyes glow gold, letting his eyes return to normal, looking at Adriana, shaking his head. "You might not believe me, but I am sorry, Adri." He looked at Malia. "And you should've listened to Tara, Malia."

Theo walked away, leaving.

Adriana couldn't move because of the paralytic in her veins, breathing heavily, looking at Tara and Malia.

Malia and Tara were holding their gunshot wounds from where the Desert Wolf had shot them. Their wounds were smoking from the wolfsbane that had been laced in the bullets, clearly evidence to them weakening and in the process of dying, just like the Desert Wolf had said.

The Desert Wolf stepped closer.

Adriana glared at the Desert Wolf but couldn't make a move to help Malia or Tara.

Underground Argent Bunker

Angel, Jordan, Chris and Gerard were talking in the underground Argent bunker.

"My dad was part of an E-O-D team in Afghanistan," Angel told them. "Explosive Ordinance Disposal. He handed IED's. My, uh... my mom was kind of an adviser. She used stories from war in her books, along with the supernatural. My dad was cutting a wire on a bomb, and it exploded, killing them both. Or, at least, that's the official story."

"You don't think that's what happened, do you, Angel?" Chris asked.

"Not if that's where I get my immunity from, no," Angel answered. "I just... I don't know what really happened to them."

Gerard showed Angel and Jordan a book with an illustration of what looked like a hound on the ground, a bird and a creature with wings in the sky.

"What's that supposed to be?" Jordan asked.

"The Hellhound, the Raven and the Valkyrie," Gerard answered. "Angel's mother was a Hellhound, like yourself."

"Yeah, she was my sister," Jordan told them.

"And Angel's father was a Raven," Gerard told him. "That makes her a Valkyrie. And she has all the abilities and immunities they both have."

"How can you be so sure that we're the ones that can defeat the Beast?" Jordan asked.

"It's prophecized," Gerard answered.

"I don't believe in fate," Angel told them. "Which means I don't believe in prophecies."

"The True Alpha and the Transferring Alphas, also known as the half-breeds, were a prophecy, Angel," Chris told her. "Scott, Ari, Adriana. Does that also mean you don't believe in that?"

Angel didn't answer, looking down.

Eichen House - Showers

The scenes that played while in Eichen House, some of them were from the flash forward in 5.01 Creatures of the Night, indicating that we were now caught up to this time.

Lydia was in the middle of taking a shower.

The nurse was watching her from the doorway. "All right, you've had long enough. Let's go." Lydia didn't answer. "I'm not buying the catatonic act. So, don't think I'm gonna drop my guard." The nurse looked at Lydia angrily. "I know you can hear me."

¤•¤°¤•¤

Cell

In her dream/vision/hallucination, Lydia was still trapped in the cell.

Meredith was on the other side of the glass.

Lydia looked around at the flickering lights, obviously scared that Malia, Tara and Adriana were going to die.

"Don't get lost, Lydia," Meredith told her. "You can help them, but you have to get out of here first."

"They're in trouble," Lydia told her. "I think it's happening now. Oh, God. It's gonna find them. The Beast. It's gonna come for them."

¤•¤°¤•¤

Fort Jewett

Adriana was still paralyzed on the floor, trying to move.

Malia and Tara were caused great agony because of the wolfsbane laced in the bullets that the Desert Wolf had shot them with. Tara groaned a screamed of pain, while Malia screamed in agony. Tara was struggling to pull the bullets out of the wounds in her stomach, groaning in pain.

The Desert Wolf walked toward Malia. "You know, your real name isn't Malia." She gripped her by her throat. "You don't have a name. Talia Hale took you away from me before I could give you one."

The Desert Wolf looked at Tara.

"My mother," Tara told them breathlessly.

The Desert Wolf nodded. "That's right, Tara." She punched Malia in the face. "What Malia does have is power. Strength, speed, and the capacity to heal. You know where you got it from, Malia? You know who you stole it from? Me." She stood, crushing Malia's stomach with her foot. "Tell me when it hurts." Adriana was struggling to pull herself over the floor toward Deaton to help him. "Tell me when it really hurts."

Malia screamed in pain.

Adriana struggled to untie Deaton while her body was still mostly paralyzed from the Kanima venom that had been laced on the knife that Theo had slit her with.

Deaton removed his gag, looking at the Desert Wolf. "Corinne! You can't get it back like this. It has to be a full moon. You kill her now, and you get nothing."

¤•¤°¤•¤

Eichen House - Cell

Lydia was terrified of losing her two friends and her cousin, falling to her knees in exertion, crying.

"You can help them," Meredith told her. "Lydia!"

Lydia raised her head, breathing heavily.

¤•¤°¤•¤

Lydia's Cell

Lydia was laying catatonic in her bed. Schrader was sitting next to her, injecting the needle into her arm, looking at Lydia creepily. He turned Lydia's head to the side to inject the needle into her neck.

¤•¤°¤•¤

Cell

Lydia was still on her knees, gasping.

Meredith was still on the other side of the glass. "Lydia! Your cousin will die if you don't break the glass. The cousin that you lost for five years. The one you just got back. You don't want to lose her again, do you? You can help her, and the others." Lydia slowly stood, looking determined now more than ever, fueled by the ammunition about Adriana that Meredith gave her. Meredith put her hands against the glass. "Break the glass!"

Lydia took a deep breath, pushing forward with her hands, releasing a Banshee scream, using her hands to direct the sound of her voice to break the glass in front of her.

  ¤•¤°¤•¤

Lydia's Cell

Lydia instantly sat up, screaming a loud, Banshee scream that was powerful enough to make the lights shatter and sparks fall, leaving the room in darkness.

  ¤•¤°¤•¤

Fort Jewett

Lydia's scream seemed to reach Fort Jewett, too. The light over Deaton and Adriana's heads exploded into a shower of sparks.

Tara pushed herself off the floor, grabbing Corinne, pushing her away from Malia.

Corinne let her eyes glow blue, growling.

Tara let her eyes glow blue, roaring.

  ¤•¤°¤•¤

  ¤•¤°¤•¤

Malia pulled herself back into a car behind her, groaning in pain, struggling to pull the bullet out of her stomach.

Adriana was starting to fully have control over her body again, struggling to finish untying Deaton.

Corinne slashed toward Tara. Tara ducked, slashing into her shoulder, spinning to try to kick her. Corinne ducked, trying to slash into Tara. Tara caught her arm, spinning around, throwing her into a nearby car. Tara growled at her, running closer. Corinne kicked Tara in her stomach, in her unhealed, wolfsbane-laced bullet wounds, making Tara groan in pain, stabbing her claws into the unhealed wounds. Tara pulled Corinne's claws out of her stomach, pulling on her arms hard enough to make her double over, wrapping her legs around her neck, flipping her through the air to the floor, landing in a crouch, looking up, growling, holding her stomach in pain.

Malia was able to pull the bullet out of her stomach.

Corinne stood, trying to kick Tara. Tara spun out of the way.

Malia breathed heavily in pain, trying to stand, nearly falling, glaring at Corinne. "I killed them because of you. I killed my own family."

"Your adoptive family," Corinne told her. "I'm your family, sweetheart." Malia growled, trying to slash into Corinne. Corinne raised an arm to block the move, punching Malia in the stomach, into her unhealed, wolfsbane-laced wound, making her groan a scream of pain, punching her in the face twice, kneeing her in the stomach, stabbing her claws into Malia's stomach, into her unhealed, wolfsbane-laced bullet wound, making her scream in pain, throwing her into a nearby car. "But if it makes you feel any better, I didn't care about them. I was just trying to kill you."

Corinne went in for the kill, raising her arm to stab into Malia's chest.

Tara caught Corinne's wrist, flipping her to the ground, holding her in an arm lock. "If this is what it means to be a Desert Wolf, so far, I'm not impressed."

The wall started to crack behind Deaton and Adriana, making Tara, Malia and Corinne stop fighting and look toward the wall and Deaton and Adriana.

The wall fell through, large pieces of debris falling onto Deaton, trapping him to the floor.

Adriana was pushing the debris away from her before she could be trapped.

The Beast was on the other side of the broken wall.

Malia, Corinne and Tara were in shock, all of them standing, facing the Beast.

Adriana stood, looking at the Beast in shock, though she knew she didn't have time to process, shifting with her eyes glowing purple, roaring.

  ¤•¤°¤•¤

Eichen House - Outside

In the pouring rain, after Lydia had fought her way out of Eichen and had been distracted by the vision of Aiden, the three guards she had fought outside had been given time to stand, each of them tasering Lydia with their stun guns, making her groan a scream of pain and fall to her knees, restraining her.

Lydia struggled desperately. "Please, I have to tell them. They're all going to die. My friends, my family. They're all going to die."

  ¤•¤°¤•¤

Fort Jewett

The Beast continued to pull away at the broken wall, making the hole bigger, grabbing Deaton, pulling him toward him.

Adriana jumped up to slash into the Beast's arms to make him let go of Deaton, catching him as he fell. The Beast raised his arms to slash into Adriana repeatedly, as she was too busy trying to keep Deaton safe to fight back.

Malia struggled with the decision to save Adriana and Deaton or to kill Corrine.

Tara and Malia ran toward Adriana and Deaton to pull them away from the Beast before he could kill them, standing in front of them protectively, roaring at the Beast as it backed away out of the hole, seeming ready to jump in and charge after them.

"Come on!" Adriana told them.

Adriana and Deaton helped Tara and Malia run out of Fort Jewett, as they were getting weaker from being shot with wolfsbane.

The Beast roared after them in anger.

  ¤•¤°¤•¤

Chimeras' Lair

Theo returned to the Chimeras' lair to find his pack, Tracy, Josh, Cory, Hayden and Chayton, wounded, rolling his eyes in amusement. "All this to take down one blind Werewolf?"

Deucalion was hooked up to a wolfsbane drip to keep him under control. His eyes were cloudy and red like they had been before. "Recently re-blinded. Unfortunately, the healing of my eyes by a Dark Druid proved only temporary. A parting gift from my time with the three years I had spent with Adriana Martin, when she was in my pack." He looked toward Theo. "Friend of yours?"

"We're working through some issues," Theo told him. "I take it you know the real history behind Adriana's past."

"He also knows why he's here," Chayton told him. "He knows about the Beast."

"The Beast of Gevaudan," Deucalion told them. "History's most vicious, most famous Werewolf. And you think I'm going to show you how to steal its power."

"I know that you know how to steal power from Ari and Adriana," Theo told him. "I think you know how to steal power from the Beast, too. And I think you're open to negotiation. All you have to do is tell me what you want."

"I want her eyes," Deucalion told them. He flicked out his claws on one hand. "On the tips of my claws. I want the eyes of Adriana Martin."

Theo looked frustrated about this, because he had gone through a lot and done a lot to protect Adriana, and now he had to continue to do so from her former Alpha that he wanted to use, sighing deeply.

Beacon Hills Animal Clinic - Backroom

(Song:) Dear Wormwood - The Oh Hellos

Adriana and Deaton had taken Tara and Malia back to the clinic so that Stiles, Stacie, Natalie and Liam could help them cure Tara and Malia from the wolfsbane before it could kill them. They were better now, healing and fine.

Angel, Ari and Scott walked into the clinic to see them together.

Scott walked toward Tara to make sure that she was okay. Tara smiled a small smile, nodding. They embraced.

Natalie and Deaton embraced for a long moment, pulling away.

Scott and Deaton embraced, pulling away.

Stiles and Ari embraced, pulling away.

Ari and Tara looked at each other, nodding.

Ari looked at Stacie and Natalie, smiling. "Stacie. Natalie. Stace and Nattie."

Stacie and Natalie walked toward Ari. Ari smiled, holding out her arms so that they could embrace as well. Stacie and Natalie pulled Adriana into the hug with their other arms. They smiled.

Angel, Liam, Malia and Tara looked at each other, nodding.

The Loft

Scott, Stiles, Stacie, Ari, Tara, Natalie, Adriana, Angel, Liam, Malia and Kira were all gathered in the loft around the large table by the wall of windows, looking at a map of Eichen House on the table in front of them. They all looked at each other, glad to be back together, smiling small smiles, nodding.

Liam put an Eichen Security Log on the table in front of them.

Ari nodded, looking over all of them. "Now we get Lydia."
