Chapter 21 - Aftermath

Two weeks had passed since Izuku's encounter with Bane at the prison. He still laid in a bed in Recovery Girl's office unconscious from his injuries. Kyoka had been panicking constantly and the rest of the class had been incredibly worried for him in his condition. He had remained unresponsive but was still alive. Recovery Girl had done her best to heal him but she was just barely able to fix his spine. Had he not been rushed to her, he may never have recovered.

Eventually, Izuku began to emerge from his unconscious state and felt great pain all throughout his body. He was wearing casts on both his arms, a brace on his back and was hooked up to a heart monitor and an IV bag. His cowl was still on and his gear was in a corner. Recovery Girl reentered the room just as he began to wake and Kyoka followed not long after. Recovery Girl walked over to him and started taking his readings while welcoming him.

"Welcome back Mr Midoriya, you've been out for a while." She said, checking all the equipment he was hooked up to.

"How long?" He replied coldly.

"Two weeks. You're lucky you were brought here in time or you may not have recovered at all." Izuku then looked to Kyoka.

"Were you hurt?" He asked, genuine concern for her and his unborn child.

"No," she replied, "but you were so hurt and in so much agony it was almost unbearable to witness."

"I would do it again to protect you. What about the villains? Bane?" His tone now more serious.

"Most of the villains escaped but Shigaraki was captured a few days ago. Bane has been missing ever since.

Izuku just started tearing off the heart monitor and pulled the IV tube out of his arm. He then proceeded to rip off his back brace and his arm casts.

"If the heroes and police didn't show up then he would have been behind bars." It was clear he was pissed about what Bane had done and the mark he had made.

"Izu, calm down." Kyoka pleaded.

"Mr Midoriya, you are nowhere near fully recovered. You need more rest and time to heal." Recovery Girl said, rushing over to him to try reason with him.

"I'm fine." Izuku replied, grabbing his the rest of his Batsuit and leaving Kyoka and Recovery Girl both there in shock. Kyoka had never seen this side of him before. She knew that he didn't like to have help from people but this was different. Something worrying.

Batman walked into the dorms and through the common area. He was about to go upstairs but was stopped by Bakugo and Kirishima.

"Oh bro thank god you are alright. We knew you would pull through." Kirishima exclaimed, but Batman just kept his regular no mood face and stayed silent. Eventually everyone had came in and started asking him how he was but he always replied with "I'm fine". Izuku turned around to leave but was questioned by Mineta.

"Where are you going? You're in no shape to fight anyone."

"Yeah," Todoroki continued, "you've just been seriously injured and just got out of hospital."

"Crime doesn't sleep and neither does justice. Bane has already had time to create whatever compound he was making weeks ago. His tracker is currently active and I'm going to find him before he can do any more harm." Batman replied and he began his way to the Batwing which had just landed at the front of the dorms.

"Izu. Stop, Izu. Izuku!" Kyoka said, blocking his way to the vehicle with the rest of the class following behind the pair and watching the interaction.

"What are you-"

"I will not in good conscience allow you to leave. You're outmatched by all these villains."

"I'm what?"

"You're not some hardened vigilante. You're a teenager in over your head and with too much anger. We all discussed this while you were out of it and... we don't want this to be your end. I don't want it to be your end." Batman just stepped to the side and continued walking. Then, he turned around with some words of his own.

"Who do you all see when you look at me? A kid who lost his parents? A guy who has no quirk? While you are all here every night and day, I am out there. The only thing between the innocent and the predatory."

"You may be bu-"

"No, not may be. I am. When the mugger or thief stops to think twice, that is fear. That is what I am. I am the reason criminals breathe easier when the sun rises. So no, I am not in over my head." He then stormed off towards the Batwing. "Tonight won't be my end, but it will be his!" Batman then entered the Batwing and took off to the city to find the tracker and Bane. His classmates all watched the vehicle leave and Kyoka began to cry out of fear of her lover's life. Momo, Bakugo, Kirishima, Mineta, Iida, Uraraka and Tsu all went to comfort her and take her inside. Kyoka was just concerned for his well being and worried that their child would grow up without a dad. She didn't want either of those things to happen. She just wanted to protect the man she loved.

About ten minutes had passed and Izuku was sat in the Batwing regretting the way he snapped at everyone but especially Kyoka. This couldn't be doing any wonders for her since she was carrying his child. He tried to get this off his mind for the time being and focus on Bane but got a transmission coming through on the comms system.

"Hello? Izuku?" Kyoka said, trying to reach him. He deactivated his voice modulator so she could hear his real voice.

"Kyoka?" His voice was soft and emotional, something rare for the dark knight.

"I needed to speak to you. I just wanted to say... I'm sorry about what was said before you left. I hope you understand, it's just because I love you and-"

"It's ok." He replied softly. "I understand and I love you too."

"Have you had any luck finding Bane?" She replied, still trying to be supporting of his vigilantism.

"The tracker is coming from underground, I'm going to have to go into the tunnels below the city and sneak into his HQ. But the tracker is still active so it means he is likely still in there. I'm going to stick to the shadows and examine the place to find any possible weaknesses."

"Ok, but please be careful. You know that he is too strong to beat in a straight up fight."

"I know, I'll be careful." He then cut off the comms, activated his voice changer and engaged his face guard / rebreather to blend into the shadows more. The Batwing flew over the streets and Batman jumped straight out and into the tunnels via an open manhole, using his cape to slow the descent.

The tunnels were barren and not a single person in sight. Even after exploring and following the route of the tracker there was still nobody. Izuku did like this, he was very close to where Bane's tracker was coming from but none of his men had been spotted. It had to be a trap, it had to. There is no way he would leave his headquarters unprotected unless something else was going on. Eventually, Batman came across a large metal door. He pulled it open slowly, making as little noise as possible and jumped into the shadows to avoid detection. Even still, nobody was here and he was picking up nothing on his heartbeat detector. He decided to explore Bane's HQ to see if there were any clues to his whereabouts.

Izuku made his was over to a gurney and syringe next to a small lab.

*From the looks of this, the compound in the syringes is a new experimental form of the drug venom. This new varient named TN-1 seems to have the same effects as venom but to a greater extent. It acts as a steroid that alters muscle and bone structure, greatly increasing strength for a temporary period. Side effects include limited brain function, including damage to the memory centre of the brain. Prolonged use could severely damaged it and potentially cause total memory loss.*

Next, he made his way over to a computer with an image of the human brain on the screen with the memory centre highlighted. Next to it were listed effects and attempts and countering the effects.

*Impressive work but it looks like he hasn't found a way to stop the memory damaging properties of the drug.* Izuku then explored some more, seeing training areas, a map of the city, an armory and another room with a larger computer set up. Placed right next to the set up was the tracker Izuku placed on Bane a few weeks ago at the prison fight. He picked it up off the table and what happened next shook him deeply.

All the computers turned on, showing images of Batman, a video of him saving Kyoka a few weeks ago, Izuku in hospital, images of Izuku and Kyoka together and a comparison of Izuku and Batman's build which was obviously a match. He had done it. Bane had done it. He figured out who Izuku was but more importantly, he knew where he lived and who Kyoka was. She wasn't safe, the class wasn't safe, their child wasn't safe. In a fit of rage, Izuku destroyed the computers, got rid of the evidence Bane gathered and blew it up. He then ran as fast as he could through the tunnels while calling Kyoka. She eventually answered but was quickly cut off.

"Hey Izu, are you-"

"Kyoka! Bane knows who I am, you aren't safe at UA!"

"Got it, I'll call the police and let the staff know."

"No, I can't risk the police discovering my identity too. Tell Aizawa to get Eri and do what I told him should this happen."

"Ok, but where are you going now?"

"Back to you, I'll figure something out. Just sit tight and warn the others to be on guard." He hung up and ran even faster through the underground maze, trying to get back as quickly as possible and protect his friends and family.

Izuku just reached the end of the tunnel and found where he landed the Batwing. He just got into the cockpit and fired up the engines when he heard a loud boom. He looked over towards the bridge and saw large flames enveloping parts of the bridge and setting it ablaze. He quickly got out and spotted a police helicopter in the distance near the bridge. Izuku patched in to the police frequencies to hear what was going on and determine the threat. After tuning to the correct wavelength and frequency, he was able to listen in.

"The fire is everywhere! Some maniac with a jetpack and flame thrower is lighting the bridge up. Multiple car explosions and reports of hostages being taken inside the bridge. We need immediate back up!" The pilot yelled, observing and reporting to the rest of his team.

"W-wait a minute, he's coming around! The helicopter is on fire, mayday, mayday! Air One going do-" another explosion followed. Then a raspy voice appeared on the radio.

"I want the Bat, so if any of you pigs step a foot on this bridge, you'll be getting some chargrilled civilians. Don't test me!"

Izuku quickly contacted Kyoka.

"Kyoka, Firefly has hostages at the bridge and will kill them if I don't save them. I need to save them before heading back."

"Do what you need to. Go save them."

As Batman approached the bridge, he needed a way to draw Firefly away to approach safely. So, he programmed the autopilot on the Batwing to bait Firefly into following it. Fortunately enough, he took the bait and followed the Batwing away from the bridge, sending a message to his crew just before he pursued.

"Listen up boys, the Bat is here. If just one of those stinking pigs sets foot on this bridge, start cooking. We'll roast them all alive. Woohooo!" He shot off, leaving Izuku his opportunity to enter undetected.

Hey guys, sorry this took a while. I hope you like it and want to see more. Catch you in the next one. Until next time. *Insert Batman smoke bomb vanish*
