Batman left Penguin encased in the enormous ice wall so that he could explore Gothcorp to find the supercoolant he needed for the cryo drill without fear that he would slip through his fingers. To find the supercoolant he needed to search in Victor Fries' lab in the cryogenics division, maybe he would find some answers as well as the coolant. The schematics of the building showed the location but also cautioned that an accident had occurred and the lab was under quarantine. Regardless, he had to go in there and get what he needs. He needed to stop Mr Freeze and save Boyle.

Izuku eventually made it to the lab, with most of it being encased in ice and covered with frost. Most technology had stopped working but some machines were still operating as usual. Not being in there long though, Izuku found a dead body. A Gothcorp security guard, lying face down on the floor sprawled out like a starfish with...blue skin. Just like Freeze. He determined that whatever caused this man's metabolic alteration was the same cause of Mr Freeze's creation. He inspected the body, colder than ice. Creating a crime scene would help determine what happened here.

'There are hand and foot prints behind the guard leading back into the laboratory. His body seems to have shut down due to heat stroke but the lab didn't overheat. His altered metabolism must not have allowed him to survive the regular conditions.' Izuku concluded, deciding to follow the trail. There was a wall of ice blocking his path though so he powered up his thermal gloves and shattered the ice with a punch.

After making his way into the glacier called a lab, he discovered some more evidence.

'Looks like the signs of a struggle. The set of footprints here match the ones of the guard. He ran out of the lab and then died. There's also some palm prints on the window looking out to the body. They are a direct match for Victor Fries, he must have saw the guard die.' He looked around the lab more, finding prototypes of cryogenic devices and other items.

'Looks like he pieced together a survival suit. That would explain the fridge look. He must need the suit to keep his core temperature at subzero, something he would be able to do without the supercoolant. The pressure in a tank must have built up and released a plume of cryo-vapour, that might explain the iceberg coming out of it. The outtakes are sealed by ice so this would stand to reason. This could have been caused by Freeze's ice cannon but there is some blood preserved by the ice. It matches Victor Fries, someone assaulted him with a weapon and knocked over the cannon by accident. There's also a dent in the wall by the door. The assailant must have been knocked clear by the shockwave from the blast. Given that I can't find any other victims, the assailant likely escaped without exposure. Now, if I find the weapon they used then I could learn more about them. I should check by the entrance.'

Batman was right and his status as World's Greatest Detective was paying off. He checked the area near the entrance only to discover a gun lodged in a small space of the wall. The type of space one wouldn't be able to reach into . However, he didn't need to. Batman used his detective scanners to analyse the weapon and found two sets of DNA.

'The blood sample on the gun and pattern indicates it was used to bludgeon Fries. The fingerprints however belong to... Ferris Boyle?' He took a step backwards, a little in shock and confusion. He then heard the crack of some ice below him so he looked. There was some tracks preserved by the ice, possibly the tracks of a gurney or operating bed. It looks like it was wheeled out just before the tank eruption. Any earlier and the tracks wouldn't have been preserved. They led to a machine which looked as though it was doing research into Huntington's Chorea with the subject being Nora Fries. It was clear what was going on here now.

'Boyle had hired Victor to secretly advance the cryoweaponry program in exchange I assume for devoting resources to curing Nora's condition. From the looks of things, Boyle seems more interested in how Victor had placed Nora into cryostasis. Got to admit, that's pretty impressive. Anyway, Fries must have found out Boyle had no intentions of honouring their deal and decided to do the research himself instead. But Boyle clearly didn't like that and assaulted him, causing the accident and then escaping ahead of the plume only to have the lab quarantined. After surviving, Victor knew leaving the supercooled lab would kill him so he made his suit and an organic supercoolant to stay at subzero temperature. All his hatred, all this violence. All he's trying to do is save his dying wife. I understand his pain, but I have to stop him.'

Penguin was still stuck in the giant wall of ice when Izuku came past and practically begged him for help.

"Come on Batman 'ave a heart. You can't leave me in 'ere, I'll freeze to death." Penguin semi-yelled out of panic and frustration. Batman just walked to another part of the wall and began setting up the cryo drill.

"I miss the part where that's my problem, Happy Feet." He replied coldly (no pun intended).

"You're just gonna gloat are ya? I'll 'ang you with that cape! You 'ere me?!" 

"Relax, you'll be free when the police get here." Izuku said, cutting a hole through the wall and going through to pursue Freeze and Boyle. He knew he had to hurry and stop Victor and bring Ferris to justice. Thankfully, the place where Nora was being held in cryostasis wasn't far.

"You're getting colder Ferris, it is only a matter of time before your core temperature drops dangerously low. Just give me the codes so I can take my wife and leave." Freeze demanded, staring into Boyel's eyes.

"I'm not giving you a damn thing you psycho! I'll see you both dead before that happens!" Ferris retaliated, yelling straight back. Freeze then raised his cannon to his head and was about to fire.

"Then join me in my fate... and freeze." Just as ice was about to shoot out, a vent cover on the wall came flying off. This startled Victor so he turned and froze the vent area and then the cover once it came to rest. He looked around for Batman but couldn't see him. He was about to freeze Boyle solid but Batman then revealed himself from behind a corner.

"Victor stop, you have to let him go."

"I'm taking my wife Batman, you won't stop me from saving her!"

"Listen, I know the truth and so will the police. Boyle will face justice for what he did." He said, raising his hands in a calming way and slowly approaching.

"It was an accident Batman! You don't know what you're talking abou-" Before Ferris could finish, Freeze picked him up and threw him into a containment pod next to Nora. He then quickly turned his attention back to the Bat and fired his ice ray. Batman quickly dived out of the way and behind the frozen vent cover to shield himself from the ice ray.

"Nothing else matters to me Batman! Nothing but my Nora!"

"Victor please. You've endangered lives all over the city. Nora would never have wanted this. I don't want to fight you but I will if I have to." This was the first ever time Izuku had tried to really appeal to the humanity of one of his enemies. He understood the pain and his motivation. It was tragic and he wanted to help.

"No. All she wants is to feel the warmth of the sun. Her hand in my own. But she can't, because of HIM. Now the only thing she can feel, is the icy touch of a man whose emotions run as cold as the blood in his veins!" He powered up his suit and began to advance to Batman but upon arrival discovered he was gone. All of a sudden, he heard the blaring alarms and an automated computer voice.

"Warning, cryo tank overload in progress. Warning." Freeze knew what he was trying to do. He was trying to sabotage the cryogenic vapour systems. The system was becoming too hot due to Batman's thermal gloves so Victor took immediate action and altered the temperature.

"Let's see how you do when the air freezes in your lungs." The area then became almost entirely frozen and Izuku was trapped in the ice. Freeze finally spotted him and began approaching him, pressing some buttons on his suit cannon.

"You should be helping me instead of fighting me Batman. Surely you know what it's like to suffer loss?" He asked standing directly in front of Izuku.

"I do. And I know what it will make you become if you kill Boyle. You'll destroy yourself and become no better than him. I want to help you Victor but I need to stop you." He then charged the XE Suit's built in heater and thermal gloves and smashed out of the ice, causing some to hit Freeze. In response, Victor fired ice at him but was too slow. Batman was hidden behind cover while Freeze looked for him. Thankfully, he got an idea. Izuku super heated a batarang and threw it at an ice stalactite causing it to fall on Victor, damaging his suit. He took this opportunity while he was down to do some more damage. He punched the armour on his chest several times with his thermal gloves leaving dents and some parts of his suit started releasing cryo vapour. Freeze only got mad and bitch slapped him with his cannon arm.

"My patience wears thin!"

While Izuku and Victor were fighting, Boyle had managed to slip free of the containment pod and sabotaged Nora's. He then decided it best to hide and wait for his moment. Meanwhile, Batman was throwing everything he had at Freeze but almost nothing seemed to have an effect. Freeze became more desperate when he heard the computer.

"Warning! Prime subject Nora Fries in danger."

"Nora! Hold on!" He then activated the cryo vapour and tried to freeze the whole room again to buy time. Batman avoided being frozen this time by taking cover behind a corner as the plume passed by.

Victor was at a nearby console trying to stabilise Nora. He desperately pressed buttons and turned dials to help her.

"I should have just killed him. You wouldn't be in danger otherwise." He said to Nora. Izuku was quietly making his way to Freeze to get underneath him and take him down. He eventually made it over and was directly beneath the ice Victor was standing on. He knocked on the ice, causing Victor to look down in shock only to see the thermal gloves of Batman punch through the ice and pull him down violently. He started to get back up but was drop kicked through an ice wall. Freeze stumbled back to his feet and turned around only to be met with a punch that slightly cracked the suit helmet, letting the none subzero temperature air in slightly, weakening him.

"Thanks for doing the heavy lifting for me Batman." Izuku then looked to see Boyle activate an ice vapour tube directly next to him. With all his strength, he pushed Victor out of the way and became frozen in the ice, only his head out. "You should never have stuck your nose in my business. Now Fries, I thought I was going to have a problem explaining what happened in your lab. But, with this Bat freak dead there will be nobody else to say otherwise." The computer sounded its alarm again.

"Warning! Prime subject Nora Fries in danger." Victor then crawled over towards her but was stopped by Boyle who was holding a pipe. "And that just leaves you doesn't it?" 

"Please... you can... save her. You just need to-"

"No Victor! She is going to die and so are you! But I'll leave you alive long enough to see her go!" Ferris then started to strike Victor's suit hard, causing more damage to the helmet and to the body. Izuku was filled with rage and determination. This injustice will not stand. He summoned as much strength as he could and broke off as much of the ice as he could. Freeing his upper body, he then punched the ice around his legs and freed them too. He ruched straight for Boyle and speared him before climbing over him, repeatedly punching him in the face, snapping his arm and knocking him out. He then stood up and stepped away from the unconscious body.

"Take a seat, humanitarian." Batman then made his way over to Nora's cryo chamber quickly to reverse whatever Boyle had done. Within a matter of a couple minutes he stabilised her. 

"Cryogenic containment restored." The computer announced. Izuku then looked over to Victor and pulled out some of the supercoolant to stabilise him until he could be placed in a cell that could keep him alive.

"I'm sorry Victor. I can't give you peace, but I can give you justice." He said as he placed the coolant into the suit and then sat down against a wall out of exhaustion.
