Chapter 35 - Tested

Batman had spent the past few weeks looking for the Joker chasing a trail of bodies, destruction and chaos. He was no closer to catching the mad man than when he first met him. He must have some kind of weakness. A way to get to him at least. Kyoka had been trying to comfort him when possible it Izuku was becoming so frustrated with all that the Joker had been doing. He was in his head. Was this his fault? Did his presence invite this agent of chaos?

Izuku stood in the Batcave staring at his suit in its container. Looking into his true self, contemplating.

"Izu, what are you doing?" Kyoka asked him, walking up to her boyfriend and hugging him.

"I'm just thinking. Thinking about just what I'm dealing with. He is killing so many people. He needs to be stopped for the sake of the city." He said, looking straight into the 'mask' of his suit.

"The Joker is a maniac but you will stop him. You always stop them." She replied, giving him a kiss on the cheek and then walked off to study for her heroics lesson later on. Once she left Izuku looked to the cowl.

"It's not the Joker that is the cause of these deaths."

Later that night

Batman stood perched over the city on top of a skyscraper, patrolling for anything that could lead to Joker. Fortunately for him and unfortunately for the city, it didn't take long for him to find Joker. An 18 wheeler truck sped through the streets, pursued by police vehicles and helicopters. Cars were rammed out of the way and inside the trailer, shooting back at the police was the clown himself. The jester of genocide. Not wanting to waste any time, Batman sprung into action, fastening up his gliding suit and then jumping off of the building.

(0:34 - 1:00)

As he was approaching the truck, a small parachute deployed, slowing his descent and allowing him to land on the roof of the trailer with a thud. Along the side, the phrase 'Slaughter is the best medicine' was written and the side of the trailer opened up to reveal a group of armed enemies. They moved to the edge and pointed their weaponry up to the top but there was nothing in sight. That was until they saw the flash of some eyes glaring into their souls one moment and then in the time it took the light of a lamppost to shine on them, the eyes were gone. They all remained silent, moving around the trailer, avoiding gunshots from cops and looking for any sign of the masked nightmare. And then they spotted him...

The Batmobile rammed through the top half of the trailer mid air and straight through to the other side. Batman steadied the car as it landed back down on the opposite side of the road with a shaky landing, almost flipping. He applied the brakes and turned the rough landing into a controlled power slide ready for pursuit again. He rocketed off after the truck with police still in pursuit but now, they were after him too. Batman didn't pay much attention to the cops as his focus was kept purely on The Joker. Speaking of, Joker had grabbed an AK47 and started shooting the police cruisers that were pursuing. Almost every bullet hit a cop and if it didn't, damage was done to the vehicles. One van had managed to pull up beside the trailer and was ready to open fire. That would have been the case had Joker not blew them to oblivion with an RPG. The shrapnel and car parts were sent flying all over the street following the ball of fire. Some police vehicles pulled back but Joker didn't care. He just leaned further out the side and fired a rocket behind him. The next rocket collided head on with the Batmobile.

"Hahahahahahahahaha! Not a fan of bacon eh Bats?" Immediately after, the Batmobile leapt out of the raging inferno and was not even slowed down by the rocket. All of Joker's crew were beginning to panic and started shooting again. Meanwhile, Joker began to climb to the cab to take over the driving. Bullets ricocheted off of the armoured muscle car and left less than a scratch. The next thing he saw come at him surprised him though. The driver was thrown out of the cab and Batman had to swerve to avoid hitting him at 70 mph. Granted, this wasn't the max speed but it would still hurt or kill them. His executed swerve caused the Batmobile to spin out and crash into a nearby building. The police pursuing Joker decided to ignore this and focused on the clown.

The chase was getting too far away once the Batmobile finally started back up. Batman fired up the engine and started racing through back alleys and parking lots. He was smashing through walls and cars when he received a call from Kyoka. He quickly pressed the button, accepting the call from his beloved.

"Izu?"

"Yeah, what's up? Are you alright?"

"Yeah, I'm ok. But I need to talk to you about something." This was where his heart stopped. "We haven't been on a real date for a while and was hoping we could tomorrow since I have a free day."

"Kyo... I don't know if you have seen the news or not but this isn't the best time." She sighed in disappointment.

"It's hardly ever a good time." Izuku felt bad, hearing the disappointment and sadness in her voice had made him feel terrible.

"Look, it's alright. When I get back tonight, we will talk about it and go out tomorrow ok? No Batman."

"You promise?" He tone now more jovial and excited.

"I promise." He replied, ending the call and then firing his afterburner to T-Bone one of the following cars with Joker's crew inside. As he drifted around and into a controlled stop facing directly towards Joker's on coming truck.

"Now there's a Batman." He giggled to himself, heading straight towards the Dark Knight. Batman revved his car and performed a burnout while opening the Noz and turning it on.

(3:01 - 3:10)

The Batmobile took off with such force that the front wheels lifted off the ground and the fire shooting from the exhausts scorched the asphalt.

As Batman was coming straight at him, Joker maintained his composure and laughed to himself.

"Oh, you wanna play? Come on." The two vehicles still on a collision course with the distance rapidly closing. Batman flicked some switches in the Batmobile and a small device came out underneath the rear bumper, aiming to either side of the street.

"Come on." Joker's green hair flailing around as he stared on with the black around his eyes contrasting with the white and red screaming out at people who looked at it.

Batman pressed the button which fired a cable out to either side of the street and then he pulled out a grapnel gun from underneath his suit gauntlet and fired at a lamppost behind Joker's truck. He detached the cable and turned hard to avoid the truck just as the grapnel line passed by. One of Joker's crew in the cab looks on as he passed by and then stated to his boss that:

"He missed." Then a split second later, the truck collided with the cable and ended up flipping over long ways and landing upside down. Batman was heading straight towards a wall and the Noz had just worn off. A few seconds before impact, the grapnel line became taught and pulled the car off the ground. Batman strained through agony to keep the car from hitting any buildings but instead, he drove on the walls and windows until the car landed back on the floor.

Meanwhile, Joker had just rolled out of the cab with a groan, holding an msg in one arm as he laid on his back. His purple coat and pants covered in dust with a few tears, his makeup slightly smudged around the top of his head. As he stood up to try and move, he accidentally pulled the trigger on his gun and then fell over again. He straightened himself out when he stood back up and looked on at the charging Batmobile heading straight towards him. Joker then just started walking towards the speeding car, gun in hand.

"Come on, come on, come on." He muttered to himself. Joker then aimed his gun, without looking at a random on coming car and shot a barrage of bullets at them. "Come on. I want you to do it, I want you to do it. Come on!" More shots at innocent civilians. "Come on." The roar of the Batmobile getting louder and louder as Batman narrowed his eyes, gritted his teeth and felt his anger building towards the psycho. "Come on, come on. I want you to do it, I want you to do it. Come on, hit me. Come on, hit me!" As he charged forwards, Batman released a yell of anger, frustration and hatred. "Hit me!" Batman then had to release the accelerator and harshly apply the breaks. The tires gripped and screeched against the road, leaving heavy tire marks as the vehicle swerved around the Joker and onto its side. The Batmobile tumbled and rolled over repeatedly, then stopping once it hit a wall with Batman falling out and onto his back in pain. Meanwhile, Joker had made no effort to move whatsoever. It turns out that Batman's will to not kill was stronger than Joker's need to kill. Perhaps, in some twisted way, they were destined to meet and do this forever.

Joker pulled out a small blade from his jacket pocket and skipped slowly over to where Batman laid. Like a predator playing with his food, he took his time making his way there. One of Joker's henchmen walked up behind and tried to remove the cowl but received an electrical shock and fell over. Joker of course found this hilarious as he quickly ran over and started kicking his goon, laughing maniacally and then mocking him, pretending to be electrocuted. He then turned his attention back to the Bat, grabbing his face and preparing to give him a nice big smile. That was until he felt the barrel of a gun on the back of his head and heard the weapon cock.

"Aghhhh. Could you please just give me a minute?" He politely asked but was thrown onto his back on the floor and had a shotgun pointed towards his face by none other than Jim Gordon.

"We got you, you son of a bitch." Joker simply dropped his knife and smiled while getting handcuffed. He looked off the ground to be met with the glare of the Dark Knight. His scowl and anger, fuelled by the vengeance he wanted to bring and his hatred for the man before him. Batman stepped towards the clown, the splash of his boots in the rain and fists clenched, ready to bring justice. Joker just stood and laughed but was silenced by a punch straight to the face, knocking him unconscious and nearly knocking a tooth out.

"You better get out of here before more of the Police show up." Gordon suggested to him.

"Yeah. If you need me, you know how to contact me." Batman simply replied, turning away and flipping the Batmobile upright with great effort. Unfortunately though, police helicopters and almost every officer in the city had converged on their location. As the flashes of red and blue grew closer and the sirens became louder, Batman looked around, having the lights of helicopters shine on him. Even though they wouldn't normally be called in for such matters, some pros turned up such as Miruko and Ryukyu, the Rabbit and Dragon heroes respectively. Batman had no time to clearly think out an escape so he entered the Batmobile and then looked around to see a truck with a car transport trailer nearby. Knowing an opportunity when he saw it, he turned the car to face towards the trailer. Just as the police exited their vehicles, he fired a plastic explosive device at either side of the ramps and detonate them. (Think of that micro explosive launcher in TDK). The second they hit the floor, Batman hit the accelerator and ramped up and over the surrounding cops who tried shooting but with no success. Ryukyu had begun to give chase, flying after him while Miruko hopped quickly behind. Fortunately though, he managed to pick them up on his scanners and knew just how to slow them down long enough. Batman looked in the rear camera and waited for the precise moment Miruko touched the ground and then fired multiple bolas out of a compartment, ensnaring her and temporarily taking her out of the chase. Unfortunately though, he was still faced with Ryukyu and the several dozen police vehicles chasing him from behind. While trying to formulate a plan to take out Ryukyu, he noticed a large number of SWAT vans heading towards him from the other direction. The Dragon Hero then landed and cut off the street on his right, leaving him trapped at the T junction. Well, any normal person would be trapped but much like Spawn, Batman works well in an alley so he performed a sharp drift into the alley where every vehicle stopped near to box him in.

The officer in charge walked in front of the alley, megaphone in hand and readied to demand Batman come out with his hands up.

"Like a rat in a trap gentlemen." Though just as he was about to speak, a bright light emerged in the shape of narrow eyes. Eyes in the shape of a pissed off Bat.

"You might have the wrong animal there, sir." One of the senior officers said in response and then from the alley, emerged The Bat. A highly manoeuvrable flight vehicle, heavily armed and faster than Ryukyu so he would not be caught. He just flew up and over the cops and then boosted off past Ryukyu and Miruko. As the thrust from The Bat was still sending paper and hats flying, a smart mouthed rookie walked up to the OC and asked a stupid question.

"You sure it was him?"
