Chapter 30 - Chasing leads and cards

Izuku POV:

*December 24th, Christmas Eve. Investigations into the people behind All Might fighting me a few months ago has been progressing albeit slowly. They know how to disappear from ordinary men, but I'm not ordinary. The police and heroes have been ordered to arrest me on sight but UA don't seem to care and I've even gained an ally I can trust in the police. Lieutenant Jim Gordon. Meanwhile, my other nightly crime fighting has continued as usual but more and more are becoming scared. Once the warning hits the sky, that light shines and the rats scatter to the darkness. But now they stay away from it. They think I'm out there constantly, hiding in the shadows waiting to strike. But I am the shadows and I must pick my targets carefully if I want to stop crime and corruption. Much to the displeasure of my beloved Kyoka, this life has turned me into a nocturnal predator of the wicked. I still love her and spend as much time with her as possible. This life can tear you apart, and I am feeling the effects of it in my body, my soul.*

*The streets and roads are crowded, just in time for Christmas. People are happy, celebrating. But there is always evil lurking, waiting for the opportunity. But I'm there as well, waiting for them to make the first move. Criminals are a cowardly and superstitious bunch that fear what they can't see or understand. To me though... fear is a tool. One I have spent many years understanding and manipulating. I don't let my fear control me, but they do. It controls them. I control them. I'm what they fear and I manipulate that fear to my will. And now? Now I'm chasing down the scumbags who ordered me dead. I'll work my way through all of them until I get to the top if necessary. The city can be brought back to what it was, even if it is one gang banger or corrupt politician at a time.*

Regular POV:

A truck pulled up to an alley next to a club called The Iceberg Lounge, neon blue lights exposing the filth and blood on the streets and the cold air piercing the skin. Brutes standing guard to the palace of greed and lust, the most corrupt and powerful spent many a night here eating away at this city's wealth and never being satisfied. Their greed? Limitless. Their lust for power? Insatiable. And their thirst for control and feeling untouchable? Unquenchable. And those intended to uphold the law turn a blind eye, save for Gordon and a select few. All the hyenas looking down on everyone else and picking this city to the bone. The Penguin owns this club and has frequent visits and alleged business dealings with Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask. Cobblepot supplies him with weapons for his drug operations and Sionis pays him but nobody takes him down because he and the rest of the "Hero Comity" have bought off the right people. Or in some cases, threatened them and metaphorically have their balls in a vice giving them an added incentive to do their bidding.

Batman stood perched on a rooftop opposite the Iceberg Lounge, watching the truck carefully. A few seconds after parking up, they started loading guns in as well as ammo and various other assortments of weaponry. Thinking quickly and like the detective he is, he tagged the truck with a tracker and sent some information to Gordon in order to help follow the delivery and bust their operation. Meanwhile, Batman glided over to the glass roof of the Iceberg Lounge and looked down to find Penguin's office. Now since this was his club and he has connections with a lot of people the police couldn't touch him but he is no cop. Cobblepot was discussing more trades with Sionis so Izuku used his high tech cowl ear piece to listen to their conversation.

"Why the need to up ya muscle Sionis? At this point, ain't no dumb arse stupid enough to mess with any of ya. The payment better be fair or this 'ole deal is off." Penguin addressed the other crime boss while lightning a cigar.

"You see Oswald, the Bat problem still isn't solved. I don't know if you've noticed but Batman has been working his way through our operations and pissing me off. The big guy has considered bringing in some people from the League or even some new guy I've been hearing about. I told him it's not necessary and that if I want to secure our investments, you are the guy I need to talk to. The more weapons I got, the higher chance we kill the Bat and anyone in our way. The only problem is that since we couldn't get him killed in a fight with All Might, the big guy has even considered personally getting involved which we do not want right now."

"I see. So you gotta prove to 'im that you can 'andle it so he don't 'ave ta level 'alf the city."

"Exactly, less destruction means more money. More money is more business and more business means even more money. And that buys power. Thanks for the shipment Oz, it will be arriving soon at my warehouse and then I'll hand over the dough." Just that second though, Sionis got a very upsetting call.

"What is it? I'm in the middle of business here. What?! Damn pigs!" He then hung up the call and turned to Penguin. "The weapons were seized by the cops. We need to negotiate more another time, my ride is here."

As Roman entered the back of his car, he ordered his driver to take him somewhere he wouldn't usually go.

"Take me to the big guy." He said, sweat dripping on his forehead from fear at the thought of having to face his boss.

"Are you sure about that boss?" His driver asked getting even more nervous than Sionis.

"I didn't stutter idiot now drive or the next thing you'll be in that's remotely close to a vehicle will be a body bag." Sionis replied, revealing a .44 Magnum from his jacket. Not wanting to have lead added to the elements in his body, the driver complied and set off to see the big guy, unaware that from the rooftops they were being tailed by the man who instils fear into even the most hardened of gangsters and cold blooded killers.

After tailing Black Mask for a while, Batman had discovered that he was at the League of Villains bar hideout. However, the only people there was Kurogiri, Toga, Deathstroke and Shigaraki. He began to wonder why Slade was here and why Sionis would make a deal with Shigaraki but he would soon get answers.

"What are you doing here Sionis? Master didn't summon you." Shigaraki questioned, scratching his neck. *Shigaraki isn't the one in charge? Must be All for One that Sionis was expecting to see.* Batman thought, observing their interaction.

"Where is All for One? The operation keeps going south and to make things worse, he keeps insisting on bringing in the nut job."

"Are you questioning him?" Shigaraki began scratching more furiously while Kurogiri prepared to halt any fighting and Toga gripped her knife.

"I'm not questioning him, I'm questioning the guy he wants to bring in. There's no reason to him. But, I am starting to see why we should bring him in. We should reach out to him and say that we need his help. He may be crazy but could be useful. Besides, this is our city and nobody tells us what to do and nobody messes with us." Suddenly the door to the bar opened and Deathstroke gripped his sword while the others turned to look at who had just entered.

"Ahahahaha ahahaha haha eheh aha. I thought my jokes were bad." In walked a man in a dark purple suit with messed up green hair, a white face with black painted around the eyes, some scarring around his face and a red painted on smile.

"Who the hell is this clown?" Sionis asked, rising from his chair.

"Not a clown. Joker." He replied with a sickening smile as he threw a Joker razor playing card in front of where Black Mask was sitting. "Now, this little group therapy session it's uh... a little cliche. You worry about money and power but you see, to a guy like me-"

"You mean some sick freak?" Shigaraki interupted rudely. "How the hell do we even know if you are gonna be any more successful than any of us?!"

"Anyway, talking about your so called plan. There are only two things in this world that reveal a true person's nature: chaos and craziness. Lucky for you, I'm swimming in both. You introduce a little anarchy and everything becomes chaos. In their final moments people show who they truly are. But if we don't deal with your little problem now, soon handjob here won't be able to get lotion for his rub and tugs ahahahahaha." Shigaraki then got infuriated, decaying the table in front of him and prepared to attack him.

"That's it you fucking clown! You're dead!" Kurogiri was about to intervene and the others were ready to attack but we're all stopped when Joker revealed his uno reverse card: the inside of his jacket was full to the brim with explosives wired to a simple pull string.

"Atatatata. Let's not blow this out of proportion." Joker calmly said smirking.

"You expect to humiliate me?! You think you can insult me and just walk away?!" Shigaraki yelled, with Kurogiri pleading him to calm himself while Toga was frozen, Deathstroke kept his eye on him and Sionis was panicking internally.

"Ok, so it all seems a little heated right now so I'm going to go now. Why don't you give me a call when you're willing to speak like an adult ok Pumpkin? There's my card." Joker said pointing at the card he threw earlier as he backed out of the bar playing with the string attaching the bombs. As soon as he left, everyone relaxed and looked at the card. It had started beeping. It was a bomb!

Deathstroke approached the device to disable it due to his expertise in weapons. Thankfully he managed but unfortunately, the second he did Batman burst through the ceiling and began kicking the crap out of everyone in the room. Chairs went flying, glass shattered and bones were being broken. Gunfire filled the bar as Slade and Roman fired off shots while Toga threw knives and Kurogiri and Shigaraki tried to use their quirks but to no avail. Batman was like a wraith, dodging every attack thrown and working his way through them one by one. He was about to go at Deathstroke when he saw Joker stood at the door of the bar holding a grenade.

"In my house, it's a tradition to open a present on Christmas Eve. Have one on me. Ahahahahaha." He then high tailed it out of there and Izuku took a staff to the face courtesy of Deathstroke. He attempted to hit him again but it was blocked and Batman responded with a roll up and axe kick on his helmet effectively flooring the one eyed assassin. While this fight was happening, Kurogiri spotted the grenade and warped all the villains out of the bar leaving Batman alone with the explosive. In the final few seconds, he flipped a table and raised his cape to provide more blast protection. The explosion tore a hole through the bar, leading to the infested street and illuminating it with the fires sparked from the chaos. Batman was flung from the building and landed across the street under a street light, flickering almost in time with the crackling of the fire.

Batman sat up and looked and the remnants of the bar and the destruction left behind. He needed information on this person as soon as possible so he contacted Gordon.

"Gordon, I need you to gather as much information you can on someone called 'The Joker' for me and send it to the Batcomputer." He then immediately hung up and held his side, feeling some cracked ribs.

"This is turning out to be a shitty Christmas Eve. Oh god Kyoka is going to freak out when I get back."
