Chapter 27

A week had passed since that happened. Kim was shaken and so was Jack, and them acting weirder than before was not even surprising.

She was more than shaken. Calling her simply startled would be considered a crime. Whenever she closed her eyes, memories of that would wake her up. If she kept her eyes open, she'd zone out thinking about that.

She was thankful that no one had seen them or else she could not imagine what hell of a life she'd live. What if Boyfriend saw them? His heart would be broken. Or worse Lindsay? Kim would be blackmailed her whole life.

Her head revolved a 360 degree, and she could not be the same. Her own boyfriend didn't dare to kiss her and then, there was Mr. Hot Lips. It couldn't be forgotten no matter how much effort was given in. It was impossible to forget. Plain impossible.

Jack surely was an idiot for directly kissing her without any ands and ifs. He was embarrassed of his own deeds. And he knew that he should be.

His head hurt, not from banging the head on the wall for multiple times, but from overthinking and preparing for scenarios where Kim could show up as Thanos and end his life in a snap.

Wow. Even his own conscious made fun of him.

What would Kim think of him now? You lost your chance, Brewer- His conscious popped in.

How was he supposed to reveal his face to her? Carry a swelling ointment, you never know when a slap is coming.

Should he try to figure out things and talk to her? Go and check the main hall. Looks like you left your brain there.

What would he do now? Sorry, no answer for that.

"Oh, come on." He whined before pulling the sheets over as he tried to sleep.

But, how was he supposed to get peace? He rolled and twisted, changing his sleep positions, trying to find the perfect one. When it was 3 am in the morning, and his eyes refused to stay opened, he finally drifted off to sleep, only to be wakened up at 6 in the morning, curtsy of the sweet-sweet alarm clock.

He slapped the alarm, and it still didn't turn off. "What's your problem?" He growled, crashing the alarm clock in the wall. The sound stopped and he smirked in victory, keeping his eyes still closed. Hugging the soft pillow, Jack continued to get his beauty sleep.

"Jackson Brewer, what did you break?" His mom's voice rang throughout the whole house and it immediately woke him up, causing him to fall on the stone cold floor.

"Nothing, mom." He restlessly rubbed his eyes and yawned, stretching his arms out.

"Good morning." Jack sarcastically said to himself and untangled the sheet from his foot.

Going back to Kim, she was also this restless and her eyes were the shelter to prominent dark circles. She hadn't had any sleep since that happened. The alarm clock beeped, and she was out of her so-called sleep which was lying down on the bed and staring at the white ceiling.

She sighed and rushed to her bathroom for a cold shower.

It was Sunday and the time was 7:33 pm.

Jack and Kim were both in the dojo and throughout the entire practice, Kim was giving him glares. When they were done, a sigh of relief left her mouth and she went straight up to talk.

Jack saw her coming to him with red eyes and to be honest, she kind of looked scary. She looked nothing like the Kim that he had kissed and seen that night- sensational and angelic. Instead, she had red, anger-filled eyes and her hair represented streaks of burning flame, which were blonde that night, as far as he remembered.

Even then she looked beautiful and he mentally slapped himself for thinking that.

Jack took a few steps back and made his way to attack the lifeless dummy, pretending that he was practicing. Kim angrily rolled her eyes and sat down on the bench which was just beside him- hardly three feet away.

He slowly turned his left eye and immediately caught the sight of Kim shooting death daggers at him. And did he see fire surrounding her body? Jack did not see anymore. He instantly invited his eye back to the previous spot- the plastic eyes of the dummy he was throwing his arms and feet on.

Minutes passed which slowly turned into hours and the time now was 9:54 pm. Jack was still pretending-practising and Kim was still glaring at him. The surprise was that neither of them were tired. They were just like they had started- fresh as new.

"Kim, I'm leaving." Shelby lightly tapped her shoulder. "Don't forget to lock the door." She added and left.

It was all Jack and Kim now which doubled the tension of the scene. Jack was busy punching away, and Kim didn't look like she was going to give up either. Her eyes which were angry, now started growing hurt. She was hurt and her eyes clearly showed it.

Jack might have noticed it because he stopped and stood with his body frozen in his spot. There was silence until Kim decided to break it.

"Why did you kiss me?" She asked with her head down.

The blood circulation stopped in Jack's body and he thought he was going to die, but certainly, he didn't. He blinked his eyes a few times and lightly shook his head as a gesture of focussing again.

"Ignoring me is not going to work, Jack. Answer my question. Why did you kiss me?" Kim's tone was stern now, but her eyes were still holding that 'hurt' expression.

Jack didn't bother answering. He was still jabbing here and there on the lifeless dummy. What was he supposed to say?

"Don't be a coward, Jack. Give me my answer. Why did you kiss me?" She was full-on testing his will power now, and when no answer escaped his mouth, she had to yell.

"Why did you kiss me?" There she was yelling. Even the people who were walking outside the dojo had to give them their attention.

The yelling was successful as Jack had her attention. He turned around to face her and tell her to calm down. But, the silent tears strolling down her cheeks and eyes having mixed emotions made him shut up. He made her cry.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have..." He trailed off as his head went down to look at the floor.

"You're sorry? How can you be sorry when you're playing with my feelings? I liked you, Jack. More than just a friend. I hate myself for being so desperate, that I still like you. Even when I have an amazing boyfriend." She wiped away her tears.

Jack lifted up his head, only to see Kim's tear-stained face shedding more tears. Her shoulders were shaking as the tears revolutionised into sobs. Jack wanted to punch himself so bad, but Kim was more important right now.

He wasted no time in walking up to her and engulfed Kim in his embrace. Her sobs didn't calm, instead they turned louder as her hand gripped the front of his gi.

A few minutes later, when Kim could hold herself back together, she removed his arms which were still tightly wrapped around her body.

"I like you too, Kim. A lot." Jack confessed.

Kim's strong expression started softening again. But, she did not allow anymore tears. Instead, she kicked him on the chest with all the strength she had. When Jack settled on the floor, she threw the keys beside him and dashed out the door, grabbing her bag.

Jack watched her go. He didn't follow after because of two reasons- she would probably kill him and the pain in his chest was unbelievable. There was gonna be a nasty bruise.
