Chapter 16

"So, where are we going?" Kim asks awkwardly. She noticed Jack, walking with his hands in his pockets, staring at the road. These two have been walking for 10 minutes, feet apart from each other, without any sort of eye contact, walking randomly as if complete strangers.

"Come again?" He asked, looking at her.

"Alright. That's it. I'm going back. You know what? Next time you ask me to go out with you, you better know where you want me to go out with you." She said as she backs off from him. She sounded really pissed.

"Relax, girl. To the amusement park." He says, pulling her back.

Kim sighs. "Alright, fine." She shots back.

Jack gave her the devil smile and sprinted with Kim, nearly pulling her arm out.

"Jack, slow down. I don't wanna lose my arm." She said, panting.

"You won't." He replied without facing Kim, reassuring her.

They ran down the hilly town of Seaford, panting and wiping the sweat from their foreheads until they found themselves breathless, standing in front of Isla Magica. Kim stops to the entry, taking support of her knees as she stands.

"I'll go and get the tickets." Jack said and rushed to the ticket counter while Kim watched him go.

She took out Vaseline from her pocket and rubbed it on her lips being chapped after the long run. She looks around, no sign of Jack and sits down on one of the benches nearby, tying her hair in a loose braid.

"Sorry if I'm late." Jack walked to her, handing the ticket.

"No. It's fine." She replies, still catching her breath.

"So, are we going in or not?" He asked when he sees Kim almost lying on the bench.

"One second." She said and sat down.

"Let's go." She stands up, no longer sweaty or breathless.

They pass through the security, handing the ticket and storming in. Kim looks at Jack hopefully looking at the Ferris Wheel. She snaps her fingers in front of his face, causing him to gaze at her.

"I know you want to. Come on." She says and drags him to the wheel by his sleeve.

They stand in the line, waiting for their turn. Kim glances at Jack. He was so close to her that she could feel his breath striking the back of her neck. She turns back to her front, feeling quite flushed.

"A little too close, aren't I?" He whispers seductively in her ear.

She stomps on his foot.

"Not really." She whispers back.

Kim walked in first, followed by Jack. She takes her seat beside Jack, tying the safety belt around her waist. She glances at him, totally absent-minded with his phone in his hand.

"Sit down, will you?" She said as she pulls him in his seat.

He totally ignores her, giggling at some text his friends sent. Kim rolls her eyes at him. Once they were down, she swiftly jumped out of her seat, storming away. Jack caught her from the back

"Where are you off to?" He said, pulling her by her hand.

"To a place where you won't giggle over the texts with your friends." She replied coldly as she let go of his grip.

"You want my attention?" He asked sarcastically.

"Yes, I do." She replied, unaware of her words.

Jack looked seriously at her for a second, soaking in what she just said. He then runs a hand through his hair, smiling with a pure desire to continue the flirting.

"Not like that." Kim snaps at him.

"So, like what?" He smirks, leaning closer to her.

"Should I throw you in the fountain or we go to our next ride?" She folded her arms in front of Jack, not very amused.

"I like the second option better." He told her and Kim nodded back.

"To the roller-coaster." He exclaims, dragging Kim along.

She adjusted her sleeve once she found herself all belted up and stuffed in the coaster car. She nervously swallowed her spit as she moved her head around, feeling her stomach doing flips.

"Are you alright, Kim?" Jack asked, looking worriedly at her.

She nods.

A sudden pang of momentum invades Kim's mind, indicating the roller coaster had started. Her breath twitched and the fast wind rumbling in her ear made her eyes water. She stiffened her hands along with her jaw, and her eyes were opened wide.

"Jack, I don't think I can ride anymore." She speaks softly, but loud enough to reach his ears.

"Uh, don't you think it's a little late to say that?" He suggested pointing to the speedy coaster they were sitting in.

"Jack, I'm serious. I think I'm gonna puke." She pleaded once again.

"I'm sorry. There's nothing that can be done now."

Kim stiffened her head, stiffening herself as well as she was helpless now. She tilted her head to the front, the cool wind blowing her hair. She gripped Jack's hand and squeezed it harder than ever, holding it closer to her chest, enclosed safely within her own hands.

"Kim, I can't feel my hand." Jack complained and Kim left him ignored.

Her eyes dreaded in horror as she saw the most terrible part coming up next. The loop. She screamed in terror as she felt herself turned upside-down, feeling every single element of Physics which she learned in class being applied on her body. Luckily, she wasn't the only one screaming, so no awkward feelings.

They got down two minutes after with Kim's face still being expressionless out of fear. Her hair which was weaved in a loose braid a few minutes ago, had turned to a mess, leaving half of her hair tucked in the rubber band and the other half falling out.

Jack took a look at the sight and let out a giggle. "Your hair is a mess." He said, lifting a few strands as he continued to laugh.

She pouted and punched him on his shoulder.

"Sorry." He said as she folded her arms in front of him, waiting to hear his apology.

"Let's go." Kim says.

"Wait a minute." Jack said, reaching to her back.

He lifted her blonde hair, releasing it out from the clutch of her rubber band. Kim felt her cheek going into the deepest shade of red as she felt Jack's hand running through her hair. She lets out an unnoticeable shiver when the back of his fingers slightly rub her neck.

"Done." He said and Kim snapped into reality.

Her hair was down now, falling free in her natural curls which looked good, especially since it had Jack's touch in it, making it complete. She nervously tugs it back her ear, nodding at him.

"Wanna get some ice cream?" He asks, handing her the rubber band.

She strongly smiled at him, nodding.

"Here you go." Jack handed her the strawberry ice cream, their hands to some extent rubbing against each other.

"Mmm...." Kim mumbled when a soft strawberry chunk hit her teeth, making her smile even deeper. Jack just let a smirk out. That was all he could do.

They went out when it was nearly 6 in the evening, the sky already showing beautiful colours and the sun being almost invisible through the dusk and Kim still finishing her ice-cream. "How long does it take to finish an ice-cream?" Jack furrowed his eyebrows at her.

"This one is just like yesterday's except there are strawberry chunks." Kim said, totally ignoring his question at her.

"You had ice-cream yesterday?" He questions.

"Mmm-Hmm. Blake treated me one." She replied as she took her last bite.

"Oh." His voice showed clear disappointment and death of interest and jealousy which did not go unnoticed by Kim. Especially the 'Jealousy' part.

"Getting jealous, Brewer?" She mimicked him.

"Kind of, actually.." He said, rubbing his neck awkwardly as he answered.

She blushes, keeping it to herself.

They walked down the streets in the evening, between the street lights, making the environment even more awkward. Jack sled his hand down from his pockets, waiting for an opportunity to take Kim's hand in his own.

Kim watched at his hand and then at his intentions, smiling briefly to herself. She kept her hands in her pocket on purpose, mocking him and making him mad.

Jack sighed, rolling his eyes and his hands ready to go back in his pocket until he felt a slight touch. A touch making his eyes go wide and tickling his spine.

They continue to walk down the streets as their fingers start to tangle into each other's, and soon in a tight grip which neither of them wanted to let go of. A smile creeping up their faces, as they looked down and not into each other's eyes, continuing their walk back to home.
