Chapter 11

 I was super busy with my college paperwork, so I didn't get time to update.  Plus, sorry that this chapter is super long.😅😅😅

It was past midnight.


Kim was surprised. Why in the world would Jack text her? She scratched her head and sighed. She stared deeper into the blue screen of her phone, her fingers positioned as if she was gonna type something.


"Who gave you my number, you freak?" She said as she typed the message.


"I have my ways." Jack replied.


Kim giggled as she read his message. She smiled at the sky, thinking of what to say next. She bit her lower lip, still thinking. Jack texted her first, so shouldn't he question her?


Kim smiled confidently and typed, "So, why'd you text me?" Kim grew her smile. She pressed the send button and waited for his reply.


"Close your eyes and count 'til 10." That's all he said.


Kim's expression changed.


"Why should I do that?" She tried to show attitude.


"Is that an indirect way of saying I don't know how to count?" He tried to be funny.


She rolled her eyes at him. Even though Jack couldn't see her, he knew her reaction. Kim leaned deeper onto the railing, still smirking at their awkward conversation.


"Just count. And keep your eyes closed." He said.


"Fine." Kim replied.


She kept her phone in her pocket and sighed. "Do I really have to do this?" She closed her eyes, keeping her hands on her eyes for a dramatic effect. "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10." She puts her hand down. Kim turned around and opened her eyes. Nothing.


Kim walked a few steps forward. Her smile dropped. She folded her hands, growing a frowny face. "Why do I get played all the time?" She said in an irritated tone.


"Not this time." A voice from the back called.


Kim turned back in surprise. She saw Jack sitting on the railing, in the Peter-Pan style.


"Jack." Kim exclaimed as she walked towards him. Her smile emerged on her face again. Without even thinking, she wrapped her arms around him, and he did the same. Jack leaned his head on hers, wrapping his arms around her waist, feeling her lean body. Both of them, smiling. All of it was magical until they realize it.


Kim pulls away first.


"I am sorry." Jack said.


"No. I am sorry. I was the one who first ..." She trails off. "So, why are you here?" Kim asks him, but her eyes were on the floor. She didn't see him in the eyes.


"Nothing just wanted to surprise you." Jack smiled at her.


Kim stared at him. She then walked towards the railing, leaning deeper on it. "How did you.." She paused to look at him, "Climb all the way up here?" She asks.


Jack walked to her, 'till he reached her side, "I've told ya. I have my ways." He smirked.


"Or a ladder." She pointed to a ladder that was probably used for hospital maintenance. Kim looked at him. "You can't cheat me." She chuckles.


"Let's go." He said as he took her hand.


"Where?" Kim asked with a confused look on her face.


"You talk a lot." He said as he climbed the other side of the railing as he grabbed Kim's waist and lifted her to his side.


"What are you doing? You'll get us both killed." Kim's eyes enlarged at his action. He was taking advantage of her recovering foot. If anyone of them showed any sort of movement, they'd be down to the ground.


"Getting down without wasting time." He replied as he took a grip of a thin pole which was a few inches away from the ladder that he used earlier.


"Jack, I don't think this is a very good idea." She tried to stop him but he lets go, sliding down the pole. Kim caught him by his collar and buried her face in his chest, letting a fierce scream out.


"Relax. You're not dead." He joked but Kim did not seem amused.


"Hey. Who's there?" The janitor shouted at them. Kim's scream got his attention.


"What now?" She asked Jack.


"Run."


"I can't. Not allowed." She said as she moved his hand which was still around her waist. Jack rolls his eyes at her. "Get on my back." He said as he gestured with his hands. Kim nodded at him and hopped on his back.


"Jeez, you're heavy." He joked.


"Get going or we're dead." She exclaimed as she spotted the janitor walking to them.


Jack swiftly runs out of the hospital campus with Kim looking behind every 2 seconds, checking if the janitor's still following them. She is relieved when the hospital's no more in the sight. He carried her to the park.


"You can put me down." Kim said, leaning her head closer to Jack's ear.


"Do me a favor, will you?" He asked, turning his head to her.


"What?"


"Shut up." He said coldly and turned his head to the front. Kim rolled her eyes at his coldness. She leaned in all of a sudden and bit the cartilage of his ear. "Ow." He cried as he touched his ear, dropping Kim to the ground.


Kim giggled as she got up. "Catch me if you can." She said as she walked hastily away from him.


"You're dead." Jack said as he turned towards her.


Kim playfully jogged away from him, hoping Jack would follow. She giggled until she found herself in an unknown place. Her smile departed. She did not see Jack or anyone around. Kim stopped at her spot, her feet unable to move. All she saw around were tall, dark and creepy pine trees.


"Jack?" She called only to hear no response.


Kim puts her hand on her forehead and wipes off her sweat. She turned back and walked a few steps. 2 minutes passed and she didn't see anyone. Kim walked further and deeper.


She stopped at her point, unable to move because of her fear and uncertainty. She turned her head but saw nothing except the stone-graveled path and the frame of the creepy pine trees. The late-night moon only made it scarier. Kim turned her head to the front again.


"Boo." Jack was in front of her.


Kim covered her eyes with her hands. She punches him on his right shoulder. "Idiot, don't ever do that again." She managed to say between her trembling voice.


"Did I scare you that bad?" He grinned until he noticed her glistening eyes.


"Kim, I'm sorry." He said as he comforted her in his arms. Kim pulled back, not wanting to feel his toned body. She sighs, "So, is this why you've brought me here? To scare the heck out of me?" She asked as she folded her arms.


"Hope on and this time don't do what you did previously. Okay?" Jack asked cautiously.


"Okay." She smiled and jumped on his back.


Jack carried her on his back to the garden, the place which was familiar to both of them. He kept her on the bench. The same bench. Kim silently watched him stretching his arms. "What's so special about here?" She breaks the silence.


"Nothing. I just wanted to have my revenge." Jack said as he stretched his fists and popped his knuckles.


Kim stood up. "Stay away." She said as she backed off.


He caught her from the back and tickled her harder than ever. "No, Jack, stop." She says between her giggles. He tickled her until both of them were down to the damp grass, lying in the same way as in 'The Fault in Our Stars' poster.


Kim collected her breath back and asked, "What time is it?" as she looked at the blue-black sky.


"4:58 a.m." Jack replies.


"What?" Kim said as she sat down. "I have to go." She told him. Jack sat down beside her. "Wait 'til sunrise. I promise I'll take you there, safe and sound." He said as he patted her shoulder.


"There's grass stuck in your hair." He said as he brushed her hair with his finger. Kim tried her best to not look him in his eyes. "Yours too." She said after she noticed green blades of grass in his dark brown hair.


Jack smiled at her as she playfully ruffled his hair. "Kim, I ..."


"Oh my gosh, look..." She said interrupting him, pointing her finger to the Sun emerging from the dawn. Kim's eyes brightened up as the first stroke of the sunray brushed her face.


"It's beautiful. Thank you so much." Kim squealed, leaning her head over his shoulder. Jack slowly tried to reach his hand around her, but she got up. "Well, let's go." Kim exclaimed, not noticing Jack's scoffed face.


"Your ride awaits m'lady." He said as he took his position, waiting for Kim to hop on.


Jack climbed up the same ladder, the only difference, Kim held him from the back. He swiftly slid down the hallway while Kim moved her head around, checking if someone was there.


He puts on her bed, carefully tucking her inside the blanket. "Yesterday was magical. Thanks a lot, Jack." Kim got on her knees and kissed him on his cheek. He smiled but keeping his eyes on the floor.


"You must go now." She told him as it was getting late. "Come again, sometimes." Kim added as Jack approached the door.


"Will do." He sweetly smiled at her and left.
