Retaliation and Wand Examination

(Y/N)'s POV

Something caught my eye later in the week, there was a large crowd gathered around the main courtyard and some wailing sobs. We pushed to the front and for once I was happy I was so tall, I had a great view of the drama.

I noticed Professor McGonagall looked as though what she was watching made her feel faintly sick. Which of course made me very concerned. Professor Trelawney was standing in the middle of the courtyard with her wand in one hand and an empty sherry bottle in the other, looking utterly mad.

But not her normal mad, like a sad mad. Two large trunks lay on the floor beside her, one of them upside down; it looked very much as though it had been thrown down the stairs after her. "No!" she shrieked.

"NO! This cannot be happening. . . . It cannot . . . I refuse to accept it!" "You didn't realise this was coming?" said a high girlish voice, sounding callously amused, Professor Umbridge.

"Incapable though you are of predicting even tomorrow's weather, you must surely have realised that your pitiful performance during my inspections, and lack of any improvement, would make it inevitable you would be sacked?"

"You c-can't!" howled Professor Trelawney, tears streaming down her face from behind her enormous lenses, "you c-can't sack me! I've b-been here sixteen years! H-Hogwarts is m-my h-home!"

My heart swelled with emotion and I parted the crowd to get closer to the scene. "It was your home," said Professor Umbridge, I felt sick to my stomach, I wasn't overly fond of Trelawney, but she didn't deserve this.

"until an hour ago, when the Minister of Magic countersigned the order for your dismissal. Now kindly remove yourself from the premises. You are embarrassing us." Pushing closer, I found Lavender and Parvati were both crying silently, their arms around each other.

I put a sympathetic hand on their shoulders, they looked up at me in tears. We watched together as Professor McGonagall marched straight up to Professor Trelawney and was patting her firmly on the back while withdrawing a large handkerchief from within her robes.

"There, there, Sibyll . . . Calm down. . . . Blow your nose on this. . . . It's not as bad as you think, now. . . . You are not going to have to leave Hogwarts. . . ." "Oh really, Professor McGonagall?" said Umbridge in a deadly voice, taking a few steps forward. "

And your authority for that statement is...?" "That would be mine," said a deep voice. Dumbledore appeared in the entrance. "Yours, Professor Dumbledore?" said Umbridge with a singularly unpleasant little laugh.

"I'm afraid you do not understand the position. I have here" she pulled a parchment scroll from within her robes. "An Order of Dismissal signed by myself and the Minister of Magic. Under the terms of Educational Decree Number Twenty-three."

"The High Inquisitor of Hogwarts has the power to inspect, place upon probation, and sack any teacher she, that is to say, I, feel is not performing up to the standard required by the Ministry of Magic. I have decided that Professor Trelawney is not up to scratch. I have dismissed her."

"You are quite right, of course, Professor Umbridge. As High Inquisitor you have every right to dismiss my teachers. You do not, however, have the authority to send them away from the castle. I am afraid," he went on, with a courteous little bow.

"The power to do that still resides with the headmaster, and it is my wish that Professor Trelawney continue to live at Hogwarts." I had to physically stop myself from shouting "HA!"

He turned to Professor McGonagall. "Might I ask you to escort Sibyll back upstairs, Professor McGonagall?" "Of course," said McGonagall. "Up you get, Sibyll. . . ." At this point I cut through the crowd, along with Lavender and Parvati rushed to her side and tried to comfort her.

They rushed to her side and started fussing over her I just wanted to show defiance to Umbridge, so I took her trunks inside the castle with a smirk and a wink to Umbridge. I didn't see what her face looked like after that, but I wished I did.

I'm not sure I liked our new Divination teacher any more then I liked our original one, though for entirely different reasons. His name was Firenze, in an odd coincidence it turned out he was the centaur that saved Harry from Quirrell back in first year.

He was apparently rather good at Divination hence why Dumbledore hired him. That I didn't mind, what I didn't like about him was that fact that just like Trelawney, he was unable to finish most of his sentences without some sort of mumbling.

Not about omens this time, instead it was about the stars or the planets and how well centaurs could understand it as opposed to humans who used it for the mundane. It all sounded a bit 'holier than thou' to me.

Lavender and Parvati seemed to take a liking to our new teacher soon after his introduction, "I'll bet you wish you hadn't given up Divination now, don't you, Hermione?" asked Parvati, smirking.

It was breakfast time a few days after the sacking of Professor Trelawney, and Parvati was curling her eyelashes around her wand and examining the effect in the back of her spoon. We were to have our first lesson with Firenze that morning.

"Not really," said Hermione indifferently, who was reading the Daily Prophet. "I've never really liked horses." She turned a page of the newspaper, scanning its columns. "He's not a horse, he's a centaur!" said Lavender, sounding shocked.

"A gorgeous centaur . . ." sighed Parvati. "Careful there girls, make any more hints at making half breeds and Umbridge will expel you" they both glared at me as I chuckled.

"Either way, he's still got four legs," said Hermione coolly, I nudged her and mouthed, "Five if you count-" That was as far as I got before she let out an exasperated sigh and turned away from me.

"Anyway, I thought you two were all upset that Trelawney had gone?" "We are!" Lavender assured her. "We went up to her office to see her, we took her some daffodils — not the honking ones that Sprout's got, nice ones. . . ."

"How is she?" asked Harry. "Not very good, poor thing," said Lavender sympathetically. Our first lesson with our new Divination teacher was very interesting, he was a lot more laid back then Trelawney, his voice made me feel like I was about to fall asleep.

I think I must have a few times, but after a boring lesson and a bit of coughing on incense it was over. I still think he was a bit snobby though. In retaliation for Trelawney being sacked, I encouraged Bones to have another 'adventure' into Umbridge's office during dinner that day.

I enjoyed it a lot more then I should. I made a mental note to gave her a lot of treats because all I could hear through the doors were cats screeching. She came sauntering out of the room feeling very proud, she then scampered off to play with Crookshanks.

I was in the common room feeling very high and mighty when I was struck back down to earth. I saw something out of the corner of my eye, Dennis Creevey had just returned to the common room looking very red in the face and shifting around nervously.

Out of concern, I stopped him, getting a bad feeling as soon as we locked eyes. "Dennis come here for a second" he seemed fairly frightened but made his way over to me. "W...what" he said timidly.

I noticed he was rubbing his hands together a lot, It took me a second to place why, I looked into his eyes and knew everything I needed to, there were still fresh tear stains on his face, I gently gripped his wrist and pulled his hand forward.

My stomach lurched as I saw the blood stains on the cuff of his robe, as well as the writing now etched onto the back of his hand. I must have let this panic hit my face because he immediately freed himself from my grip.

"It's nothing I promise!" he said, fresh tears spilling down his face. "Dennis wait" I said, calling him back calmly, he looked to the floor but walked back to me. "Why did she do this to you?" he suddenly got very flustered, spluttering about how she didn't and it wasn't a big deal.

"Please, just tell me" he took a second to collect himself "I had the Quibbler...she...she said you and Harry where liars and that...that-" I stopped him there, not wanting to upset him any further.

I promised him I would sort this out and he did nothing wrong, then I did my best to heal his hand. He thanked me and went off to talk to his friends. For the next hour I was seething with anger; I was going to ruin her for this.

But then, as I was trying to calm down, the final nail in Umbridge's coffin came bolting into the room. I tensed as soon as I saw it, I knew from the beginning something was wrong, and I could only think of one thing that would require this amount of urgency.

Crookshanks ran up to my side, mewling and crying, I panicked and followed him, "What?" I asked, hoping to at least get some answers to quell the fear bubbling up in my throat. He gestured for me to follow and walked with purpose, barely making a sound, it was as if he was trying to stay calm himself.

I tried to convince myself I was overreacting, it wasn't anything bad, surely, Crookshanks and Bones had been playing together for years, there was no way she'd get hurt, they were probably going to show me a big spider they had caught together or something.

But every step I took my heart sank more. My mind flashing to horrible images of Mrs Norris being petrified in my second year, or cooking up it's own horrible images of what I could find.

Then my fear became a waking nightmare, we found her lying on the floor, alive thank god, she saw me and let out a weak mewling sound that sounded like a weak "Hi."

As she took a step towards me, she limped off the limb as if she was in pain. One of her legs had clearly been injured. She hissed and cried as soon as any weight was placed on it.

Tears flooded my eyes as I rushed to her side, she cried as I got to her, "It's okay princess, I got you, I got you now" I cooed, trying to stop the pain I used any spell I thought of, the wound was healed, but she was still in shock.

I picked her up and rocked her slowly, doing everything I could to comfort her. I hummed slowly as I rocked her until she was asleep, still shivering and curled up. The whole time I had been gritting my teeth in fury.

After she was comfortable, I sat with her by the fireplace in the common room, petting her fur, I of course did the same to Crookshanks as thanks. Looking over the wound, It was as if her leg had been squeezed with force and twisted at an odd angle.

Looking at the injury, I realised maybe it had been jolted as she tried to escape the grip of what held her. It was originally broken, however I had healed it on the spot as I arrived. Of course after what had happened to Hedwig I had my suspicions of  what the cause was.

But to be sure, as she was sleeping I sifted through her memories of what happened, at the same time making sure she had happy dreams. I found what I was looking for and my stomach twisted with hatred and disgust.

I recognised the hand, the same one that grasped at Sirius in the fireplace we were sat by. The stubby, ringed hand of Dolores Umbridge. I don't think I had ever been this angry, and as much as I hated her, Umbridge was right about one thing, "I must take responsibility for my actions."

If I hadn't provoked her with my Quibbler interview, maybe she wouldn't have been so harsh on Dennis, If I hadn't asked Bones to trash her office, she wouldn't have been hurt. Umbridge was my responsibility now, and I was going to deal with her. Not with the others help, not the DA way, my way.

This was it; I was at my last straw with Umbridge, she had to pay for this. I didn't care about the consequences. Expulsion, Azkaban, fine by me. She hurt my cat, she was hurting my friends, she had to pay, she had to pay bad.

It took weeks, but I had a plan, and all I needed to set it up now was time, so I lied low for a while, doing the rest of my outstanding detentions with no issue, I rescheduled them until after classes, but other than that, drawing no more attention to myself unless necessary.

The others were horrified when I told them, they knew me too well to know I would never let this go, but they each told me to be careful. Hermione constantly watched me like a hawk whenever we were close to Umbridge, as if that was going to stop me.

Finally, after weeks of careful planning, I could put my plan into action. It wasn't as violent as my original plan because Hermione begged me to not go overboard so it wasn't quite as fulfilling.

Personally, I imagined one final "Hem, Hem" followed by a squeal and a satisfying flash of green light. But my revised plan was enough, for now.

First, I went to Flitwick like I had planned to anyway, I asked him to embed the foe glass into my hand. He seemed a little confused and argued that this was McGonagall's speciality then his, I nodded but said I asked him because I didn't want to bother her after what happened with Trelawney.

He nodded and got to work, since I only had a relatively small piece he spread it thinly around my entire hand, it was almost transparent at this point and reminded me of the protective glass over a watch, but It was good enough.

I asked him another favour. I asked him for more duelling practice, sure the DA helped, and I had the basics down pat, but that's all they were, basics. I needed better stuff in my arsenal. "Interested in duelling are you, why when I was your age, I was the same"

I nodded. "There are a few spells in particular" he cocked his head, "Well, one really" he squinted. I whispered it to him, and he looked at me in absolute horror. "Why you would ever need a spell like that is beyond me!"

"Too dangerous... too dark, too hard to control at your age" I grit my teeth and bit the bullet "But can you teach me?" "I know of it, in theory" he confirmed. "Professor, I'm being honest with you because your my best shot at learning this stuff" he nodded.

"I don't plan on entering any duelling competitions anytime soon" he nodded, "You forget, I have taught you for years, I expected as much." I averted my eyes, expecting him to decline angrily, "Why that spell?" "It's strong, it's hard to stop, it can do a lot of damage very quickly."

He paused, looking at be in utter disbelief. "Professor, I promise you, I will never use this spell against anyone, I just want to learn it." He sighed and nodded. "If you promise me ot to use it against another soul." "Not another soul." I repeated.

It took me three weeks to figure it out, and another to try to control it. "Please professor, don't tell anyone! Umbridge wants me out already, if she knew..." He nodded "Of course" Everything was ready now, but unfortunately, I had to cover my tracks.

While Flitwick and I were alone I whispered "Obliviate" and his eyes fluttered. I focused on me asking and learning about the spell I did, then used Legilimency to replace the memories with him teaching me other spells, he turned to me and smiled.

"You may not wish to be a duelling champion (L/N). But when I'm through with you, they will be begging you to compete" I looked at him and beamed. Guilt welling up in my throat. It quickly died as I remembered what she had done to Bones, who was still cooped up in the common room and refused to leave, Crookshanks slumped behind her.

The rage continued as I remembered how I had to write a letter to my parents and tell them that she got hurt playing a bit too much with me. My anger welled up again. Now everything was set, I was ready.

I waited until that night, I waited until the others went to bed, I shifted to my other form and used the darkness to my advantage, I managed to make it to Umbridge's office, I opened the door and left it open behind me.

I stopped myself from storming into the room, quietening myself down I took a breath and got to work, I made sure none of the portraits could see me by knocking them off the walls or placing them face down, then as I shifted back, I took a step out of the room.

I looked into my hand, as if I was checking the time, and I saw her, just barely, a shadow of Umbridge, patrolling the other end of the castle. A shame really, if she'd have caught me I'd have had no choice but to revert to my original plan.

It was very extreme, even for me. But at the time, I didn't care, all I could think of was Dennis and his teary eyed face, and Harry, and Bones. I scowled down at the back of my own hand. Where words were dug into flesh.

I did promise Hermione I wouldn't be too violent, but nobody was going to get hurt...yet. Part of me wanted someone to, part of me wanted to do so much worse. I cast one final spell, the whole room was set ablaze with the force of a small explosion.

As I watched it, I smiled more than I had in a while, sauntering off down the corridor and towards the common room, sitting in the armchair where Bones was waiting for me and falling asleep peacefully. I stroked her fondly as she drifted off to sleep I whispered to her "That was for you Princess."

Harry's POV

We were woken in the early hours of the morning by a rush of footsteps, I put on my glasses and squinted around the room, I found Dean, Seamus and Neville all craning their necks to squint out a window.

Me and Ron rushed to see what was so fascinating we saw billowing plumes of black smoke cascade off one side of the tower. We all shared a glance and collectively rushed out of the room in a group.

The girls were already downstairs, we found (Y/N) sitting in an armchair, a hand under his chin, grinning madly to himself, as we all went to investigate we asked him "You coming?" he shook his head, still beaming.

We rushed off to see the commotion, when we reached Umbridge's office it was closed off by the teachers, all of them still speaking in hushed whispers, what seemed to be the rest of the school were craning their necks to see inside as prefects fought to restore order.

I watched as Dumbledore stepped out of the room and whispered something to McGonagall as Umbridge was threatening students into coming forward. As Dumbledore finished speaking with McGonagall there was one word that was caught on his lips, "Fiendfyre."

The word reverberated in murmurs around the crowd that had now gathered. Dumbledore then craned his neck and began looking around at the crowds, as if he was searching for someone, I could have sworn his eyes scanned over me, then Ron, then Hermione.

His lips pursed and he muttered something else to McGonagall. The prefects were then tasked with escorting us all back. As we stepped through the portrait hole (Y/N) asked for information as we came in.

When we said it was fiendfyre he shrugged "What's that?" we turned to Hermione. "It's dark magic, living flames, its said to destroy everything in its path" (Y/N) smirked, "Wicked" muttered Ron. "Its very hard to control and takes the shape of animals" she continued to explain.

"Like cats?" said (Y/N), holding up Bones, she shook her head "Dragons, snakes, evil stuff" he nodded, "Shame... would have been poetic" He said under his breath. Bones began purring in contentment.

"What did Umbridge's face look like? Was she all mad? Did she cry?" said (Y/N) happily, Hermione paused, "We didn't say anything about Umbridge" she said darkly. (Y/N) shrugged. "Well, she is high inquisitor, she should probably be concerned about a fire erupting in her office"

"...We never said it was in her office" Hermione gasped, then lowered her voice "You didn't!" "Me, use Fiendfyre? Never heard of it" he smirked as he climbed up to the boy's dorms. The three of us shared a glance, was this his idea of revenge?

"When it comes to that cat, I think he scares me more then Hermione does" Said a shocked Ron. Hermione frowned deeply and stormed up the stairs after him, me and Ron both looked at each other, "Here we go." Ron said as he slumped down in a couch.

(Y/N)'s POV

Hermione walked into the room with purpose. I greeted her, "I'd avert my eyes if I were you, Seamus is about to get out the shower." She frowned at me, ok, not the time for jokes. "What have you done!" She said with concern.

"What I had to, what I told you I would do, and I took your advice, I calmed down, this was the result." I retorted, she sighed. "So you were going to kill her were you?" "Yes" I said, then with a sigh I said, "No...Look, you have a pet, you get it."

"Of course I do! But you've taken this way too far! It's dark magic (Y/N)! If you're caught you could be expelled, no, Umbridge would probably find a way to get you put in Azkaban. That was too reckless."

"You should have kept your temper, don't you see you've just given Umbridge the proof she needs. How long until she spins a story to the minister claiming that this was Dumbledore's doing, an assassination attempt even?"

"Best case she has the perfect proof that Dumbledore can't control his students. You almost burned the castle down! I understand being angry (Y/N), but you could have gotten yourself and a lot of other hurt. If Dumbledore wasn't here-"

"Well, he was, it's a moot point." I turned away from her, looking out the window at the plumes of smoke. "Don't you think dark magic is a little extreme." "I think it wasn't extreme enough." I said bitterly.

I could tell she didn't want to say what she said next, I could tell it was just anger, so I paid no mind to her words, she didn't understand, "It's just a cat (Y/N)!" The moment that phrase left her mouth, she sighed. "Look, I'm sorry I didn't mean-" She began, but I just frowned at her, cutting her off

"-Hermione. It's not just a cat. It's my cat." I said firmly, letting Bones down so she could chase after Crookshanks. Watching as she slipped out of the room without even regarding Hermione, for one of the first times ever.

"(Y/N) please just-" "Look Hermione, It's not just a cat, ok!" I said, feeling her frustration. "Bones saved my life." I said quietly, it wasn't something I talked about a lot, Hermione's brows furrowed. But she just listened as I spoke. Not daring to interrupt.

"Hermione, in the darkest time in my life. That cat being there was the only comfort I had. The months leading up to me coming to Hogwarts were...rough. Mum and Dad were going through it, finalizing things, most of the time I was alone."

"Everywhere I looked, all I could see were reminders of my brother, of the pain and guilt he left behind. I should have relied on my parents, I realise that now, but back then, that was the last thing I was ever going to do."

"My nightmares got worse and worse, for a while I couldn't sleep at all. The thought of going to Hogwarts wasn't exciting to me until I got here, I just thought it'd be a reminder of my brother. I dreaded it, the closer it got, the less I felt like...doing anything. Until I met that violent little cat."

"I had something I needed to get up for, something I needed to care for. I felt, I felt like she understood me, even before I figured out my Legilimancy, whenever things started to get bad, or my powers were too much, Bones was there with me. I can't explain it."

"Before you, before Harry and Ron, I wasn't alone because of her...I know it sounds stupid, and think of it what you will, I don't have to prove it to anyone else, but for a long time, I wasn't sure how things would have turned out without her there, Hermione."

"So when Umbridge...when she...SHE..." My lip quivered and my voice broke, hands shaking. Just the thought of it made me absolutely furious beyond words. It was bad enough in second year, but this was a whole new level of rage.

The only thing stopping me from striding through the castle to find her and putting an end to her were Hermione's arms. She wrapped me in a hug. "I'm gonna kill her, Hermione." I sobbed into her hair, "I'm gonna...kill her...I don't know what I would have done if...if...my god..."

Harry's POV

Hermione came down from the boys dorm with a small smile, but we never got any information out of her about what they spoke about. As the rest of us walked upstairs to try and get a few more hours of sleep we found (Y/N) sat on his bed, playing with something in his hands.

He turned to me as I ascended the steps and went to my bed, it was only then I realised what he was holding, it was my broom compass. "Is this yours?" I nodded, "Does it hold any sentimental value?" He gave me an odd look; I shook my head.

"Good, sorry about this" he picked it up, and threw it as hard as he could against the wall. It shattered, its needle bending at an odd angle, broken glass going everywhere, everyone in the room shouted.

"Why'd you do that!" I shouted, it fell on deaf ears, he walked up to it, "Reparo" and it reconfigured itself good as new, the glass orb reforming itself with its own shattered pieces. "You all saw me do that" he said cheerfully to the whole room, they just grunted in confusion.

"I repaired this...with my wand...didn't I" they seemed to catch on, all of us nodded. "Cheers" he said, tossing it back to me, then he reached into his trunk, and put his wand in a box, then he seemed to change his mind, pulling it out again a few seconds later.

It happened about an hour later, we were at breakfast gossiping when Snape, Umbridge, McGonagall and Dumbledore marched up to our table. "(L/N), come with us." Said Umbridge firmly, clearly still very mad.

"Why?" he protested "...Questioning" said Snape in his slow drawl. The whole hall went dead silent. "Can I finish my..." he trailed off with his question as he saw their faces.

All eyes were on him, he got up and smiled at us, it felt oddly like he was walking to his execution, Hermione looked at him wide eyed, he winked and poked his tongue out.

"With pleasure" he added, they walked out the hall with the gaze of the whole school in their backs and the silence broken quickly by loud conversation.

(Y/N)'s POV

Next thing I knew I was in Dumbledore's office, he was pacing around the room, as was McGonagall, Snape was stood stoically in the corner of the room and Umbridge was trying to maintain her air of calm, but every so often it would slip and her face would turn into a grimace.

They began questioning me, each of them bickering with the best way to approach the situation, Snape and Umbridge felt that if there was even a suspicion that I caused the fire, I should be expelled, but Dumbledore was adamant that I was innocent until proven guilty, as was McGonagall.

After a few minutes of basic questioning "Where were you at..." and "Where you responsible for...." Umbridge finally began to lose her cool.

"Personal belongings, Ministry documents! Priceless collectables" she rambled "The kitten plates?" I asked out of curiosity, she glared at me "So you like cats Professor?" she did a very slow and angry nod.

I quietened my voice so only she could hear "You could have fooled me" I spat venomously. Understanding crossed her face as she processed what I said, but before she could voice it, I moved on "Can't you just fix them?" I asked innocently "NO!" she spat. Having enough.

"Dark magic cannot be repaired so easily" she spat "You should pay closer attention to my classes Mr. (L/N)" I shrugged "Well, maybe I just need a better teacher" she breathed deeply. "Enough! Severus, get the Veritaserum I had you prepare."

I scoffed "It doesn't work on me" she got a very sinister smile on her face. "Oh no my dear, I made sure this one was very special. Just. For. You" she smiled. Oh crap. I had until he got back to think of something.

She continued to berate me until Snape returned, Dumbledore spoke next, "If you have anything to say (Y/N), anything to get off your chest, now is the time" he said kindly, I turned to Snape "I still haven't done your draught of peace homework" he sneered and passed Umbridge the potion.

"I know it was you, you animal!" she spat, holding it in her hands, "Now, calm down Dolores!" said McGonagall, as I racked my brain for the right card to play "The boy has been nothing but cooperative" she argued.

I finally settled on a plan I thought might work thanks to my prep work earlier, I had a feeling something like this might happen, I didn't expect the Veritaserum though.

"I didn't do it..." I spoke quietly as Umbridge glared at McGonagall "Nonsense!" snorted Umbridge, I cleared my throat and said, "Prove it" calmly handing her the wand "Go on, prove it was me!" I had figured they would do this anyway.

I took the Veritaserum willingly and they tested it on me "What is your name?" "(Y/N) (L/N)" "What house are you in?" "Gryffindor" then they tried something more personal to make sure I wasn't just playing along and despite my best efforts I couldn't stop it slipping out.

"That day I caught you skulking around outside your dorm, you said you were meeting a girl, who was it?" said Umbridge triumphantly, knowing that she could at least get me for something. "Minerva McGonagall" slipped past my lips.

They all turned to the owner of that name and luckily she was very quick on the uptake "He was asking me about transfiguration for that hand of his, I said not to tell anyone as he would have been bending a school rule to gain this knowledge."

Her eyes flicked to Dumbledore who nodded, "Breaking, I think was the term you were looking for" Umbridge corrected. The use of the Veritaserum played into my hands, now I just hoped my plan would work.

Luckily, as always, Umbridge was insistent that she knew best. That worked right with my plan, her or McGonagall were fine, just not Snape or Dumbledore, I couldn't use Legilimency to stop the serum itself, but I could use it on her to influence what she asked me, and how she asked it. But If anyone else interrogated me, I'd be screwed.

"What was the last spell cast by this wand?" "Reparo" "When did you last cast that spell? "When I broke Harry's compass thing earlier today" She nodded and pointed to the wand with her own, finding that it was the last spell that the wand had ever used.

She made a tutting noise. Then explained a long incantation which was like Priori Incantato, with a smirk "This spell can check more than the last spell cast. Did you know that (L/N)?" she said sweetly. "No" I said truthfully.

"So, I will ask you again, did you use this wand to start that fire? "No" I said. "Have you ever used this wand to start a fire?" I paused trying to bite my tongue "No, Hermione does Bluebell Flames better than me" I added on, she 'hem, hem'd' again.

Casting a more advanced spell, she seemed to take in the information presented to her, then handed the wand to Dumbledore who did the same, this was when I was most nervous, tricking Snape, sure, Umbridge, with pleasure, but could I fool Dumbledore? That was a big ask. He was presented with the information too, his lips pursed.

Umbridge was not having it, "Well, it seems your potions master has made some mistake," "He is clearly lying through his teeth" she demanded "further investigation will be needed into this matter" said Umbridge threateningly, McGonagall went to protest but Dumbledore's voice cut through hers.

"There is no need Dolores it is clear this wand has not been involved in the incident" A chill hit my spine, I knew from his wording he didn't believe it himself, but dismissed it anyway, he gave me a look that told me all that I needed. The only reason he couldn't expel me now was because he couldn't prove I had done it either.

He tapped his head, I nodded, and his voice found its way into my head. "I have warned you before about taking injustice into your own hands." I tensed "I have no idea what you're talking about Professor," I thought.

"This will be your first and last warning, this will not be tolerated again. Ever. If you continue this behaviour," he sighed "I'm afraid expulsion will be my only recourse" there was a lump in my throat I nodded grimly as the serum wore off.

He passed me back the wand whispering "Return this" into my ear, I nodded again, and he sent me on my way. As I left, I turned to Umbridge, "Ever heard of Billy Joel? You should listen to his music, it might help" everyone looked at me confused, "Y'know,~ We didn't start the fire~" they all shrugged.

"You guys are rubbish" I waved to Umbridge, "Good luck with your investigation, be careful on the stairs, wouldn't want you to twist an ankle, or hurt a leg" I winked at her. I swore I saw steam come out of her nose as she went crimson with anger and I sped down the stairs as she went to approach me.
