~Chapter Five~

"You think you three are the only ones with a witch on your side? Wrong, you may have caught me by surprise by bringing Madison, but something tells me that my witch is better than your witch." Katherine smirks.

"Hmm, I taught you well." Maddy nods in approval.

"Kudos to you." She replies with a smile, taking the stake from Damon's hands.

Stefan and Damon both turn to Jeremy, worried expressions on their faces. "Jeremy, go check on Elena. Make sure she's okay." Stefan demands Jeremy who was glaring at Katherine. "Go!"

"Let's all make sure poor Elena is okay. Just a little bit more pressure." Katherine starts after the younger Gilbert rushes away, slicing her hand with the stake.

Madison rolled her eyes at Katherine's need to hurt her doppelgänger for no apparent reason. Stefan slaps the stake out of Katherine's hand, the wooden weapon landing on the floor.

"This is really gonna hurt." Katherine smirks, getting ready to plunge another stake into her abdomen.

"Wait!" Damon shouts.

Maddy speeds over to Katherine, firmly grabbing her hand. She snatched the stake from her, breaking it in half and tossing it across the room.

Katherine gives the older vampire an annoyed look. "Boring." She sighs, walking away. "Okay, so how about that moonstone?"

Madison rolls her eyes in irritation, her and the two Salvatores sharing a look of annoyance. This was not the plan. Katherine was supposed to be dead already. This was supposed to be over. But no, now they were all stuck in one room with nothing to keep them entertained except each other's presence. This was not what she wanted.

"The four of us together just like old times. The girl who I loved like a sister, the brother who loved me too much and the one that didn't love me enough." Katherine smirks, sitting with her legs crossed.

"And the evil slut vampire who only loved herself." Damon speaks.

"Do not degrade women like that Damon..." Madison criticizes, making Damon raise his hands in surrender. "Even if it is true." She smirks.

"What happened to you Damon? Remember the love struck fool you were when you first met Maddy. You used to be so sweet and polite."

Damon visibly stiffens for a second, then regains his composure. "Oh, that Damon died a long time ago."

"Good. He was a bore."

"Couldn't have been to boring considering you were sleeping with him." Madison says, a sarcastic smile planted on her lips.

"What can I say, sleeping with him made me feel closer to you." Katherine smirks.

"Well I suppose sluts do like sloppy seconds."

It was Madison's turn to smirk now. She watched Katherine's lips pull into a frown, signaling that she had won that battle. Damon smiles his eyes trained on Madison. She had always been the wittiest person he knew. Always quick to come up with some smart remark that got under your skin. It was one of the many many things about her that he found attractive. She was able to keep up with his sarcasm.

"Oh, why don't you three stop antagonizing each other?" Stefan sighs, rolling his eyes.

"Where is the moonstone?" Katherine questions.

Stefan crosses his arms. "What do you want with it?"

"Does Elena enjoy having both of you worship at her alter?" Katherine asks, narrowing her brown eyes.

The brothers share a glance as Maddy raises an eyebrow. She was really hoping these two weren't going to let history repeat its self.

"That was really desperate, Katherine. Don't you think that we can see right through you?"

"So it doesn't bother you that Damon's in love with your girlfriend?" She taunts.

Madison's eyes widen as she turns to Damon. "You're in love with her?"

"No!" Damon denies, taking step towards her.

"She isn't stupid Damon. If anyone's gonna see through your self denial it's Madison." Katherine continues.

Stefan glances at his brother who was staring at Maddy with what almost looked like a pleading expression. I looked like he was begging her not to believe Katherine.

"Oh, stop it." The younger Salvatore speaks up.

"Or what? You'll hurt me?" She laughs, standing from the couch. "Come on, Stefan. Everything that I feel, Elena feels, so go ahead. Or better yet, kiss me Damon. She'll feel that too."

Madison speeds over to Katherine, slamming the younger vampire against the wall by her neck. "Well quite frankly I don't give a damn what Elena feels so there is nothing stopping me from ripping your heart out." She snarls, her vampire face on full display.

Katherine was scared. At this point Madison was the only person in the room who didn't need Elena alive. Stefan and Damon were in love with her and Katherine had her own motives for needing her doppelgänger alive.

Damon and Stefan were panicking. She was right, there wasn't anything stopping her from killing Katherine. Damon speeds over as Stefan was frozen in place, waiting for Madison to end not only Katherine's life but Elena's life too.

"Maddy think about this." Damon says softly.

"I already have." She snaps, pushing down harder on Katherine's throat.

"What would Genevieve think? You're not only killing Katherine but you're also killing Elena. An innocent teenager. Would she want you to do this?" Damon asks calmly, putting a gently hand on Maddy's shoulder.

Madison's face slowly returns to normal as she backs away from a breathless Katherine. "You got lucky this time."

Damon rests his hand on Maddy's lower back, guiding her away from Katherine before she said anything else to piss the older vampire off.  Madison had more self control than anyone in the room, but when it came to her past, she was a loose cannon. Luckily, they knew that the topic of her beloved daughter would bring her back to herself in a split second.

Stefan walks over, taking a seat on the opposite side of Madison, who sat with her arms and legs crossed. "You know, this whole Mason thing has me a bit confused. Why a werewolf? The moonstone can break a curse that would help them destroy all vampires so what's in that for you?" He questions.

Madison's eyebrows raise at the mention of werewolves. She had definitely had her fair share of run ins with the dog like species. She was on good terms with them though. In fact there probably wasn't a species that she didn't get along with. Besides Bonnie, there wasn't a witch she came across that didn't like her. She'd done many one sided favors for all of the supernatural beings.

"Sorry about your pet wolf, probably should have kept him on a tighter leash." Damon apologizes, placing an arm over Madison's shoulder.

Katherine stared at him and Madison for a split second. Truth be told, the two of them would've made an incredible couple. It was almost like they were made to be together, but then Katherine stepped in and screwed it all up. Why? Well because of jealousy. She didn't want Madison to be happy with someone else. She wanted her and Genevieve to herself. She didn't want to be alone.

When she heard Stefan and Damon's father talking about what a great family the oldest Salvatore and two Sinclair's would have made, she knew she had to take action. Compelling Damon was the only way. Making him fall in love with her instead of Maddy was the only way she wouldn't lose her.

"I'll have to remember that for next time. He's not the only wolf in town." She says, a smirk plastered on her red painted lips.

After a few minutes of boring silence, Damon was now pacing, Maddy was laying on the couch opposite of the one Katherine was sitting on, and Stefan was leaning on a nearby wall.

"Damn it! Where is that witch?" Damon snaps, loosing his patience.

"We could play charades." Katherine offers.

"You bargained the moonstone." Stefan mumbles.

"What are you mumbling about over there?" The older Salvatore asks, turning to face his little brother.

"When you struck a deal with George Lockwood, to help you fake your death, you told me that you gave George something that he needed. It was the moonstone, wasn't it?" Stefan continues.

"Good for you, Stefan. Two plus two...And it would have worked except that people found out that I wasn't in the tomb." Katherine says, looking over at Damon. "Thanks to you, by the way. Have I mentioned how inconvenient your obsession with me has been?"

Damon glances over at Madison who was blankly staring at the ceiling, half listening to the conversation. "You and me both, honey."

"Why do you need it back?" Stefan asks, still trying to get some answers from his ex lover.

"I love you in a suit, so dashing."

"What were you doing with it in the first place?"

"You're wasting your breath, Stefan." Damon sighs, making Madison nod in agreement.

"She's only gonna tell you what she wants you to know." The strawberry blonde shrugs, already knowing the way Katherine worked.

"Unless it wasn't yours to begin with. In 1864 you faked your death. Who were you running from, Katherine?"

Madison sits up, tuning in on the conversation for good this time. Stefan was slowly piecing together the information, but she wasn't gonna call out whether he was right or not. It wasn't her story to tell. She had heard Katherine mention running from a vampire much older than the both of them centuries ago when they had first met.

Katherine was only about two weeks into being a vampire when Maddy decided to take her under her wing. Of course when they met, Katherine had gone by her real name, Katerina Petrova. A helpless, scared, and confused newly turned vampire was what Katherine was when Maddy decide to help her in the way nobody else had help herself.

She knew a lot more than what she was telling either of the Salvatores. It was all for good reason though. Besides, it wasn't like she owed them anything. She didn't need to tell them a damn thing. When it comes down to it, the truth is bound to come out.

"In 1987 you were in Chicago, at a concert of all places with that wench, Lexi. Come on Stefan, don't look so surprised. Of course I checked in on you over the years. You were standing in the front row, dancing all night. You were watching Bon Jovi and I was watching you." Katherine says, avoiding Stefan's question.

"Who were you running from?" Stefan repeats.

She ignores his question mouthing the words I love you.

Madison narrowed her eyes at the brunette. "Laying it on a bit strong don't you think? Don't you ever get tired of being desperate?" She questions, making the smirk on Katherine's lips falter. "I mean Stefan got over you so quick, he was ready to pounce on me the first chance he got. I didn't even have to compel him."

"What do you mean?" Katherine growls, slowly standing up.

"Oh please," Maddy scoffs. "Sit down, we all know I could tear you limb from limb while blindfolded. And don't worry I didn't sleep with him. I should have though, because that would've felt real good to rub in your face but unlike you I don't intentionally hurt the people I care about."

Katherine narrows her eyes at the strawberry blonde as she sits back down. "Then what are you doing here trying to kill me?"

"Because Katherine, I no longer care about you... You're dead to me."
