~Chapter Fifty Nine~

"I hope we aren't too late to the party," Maddy speaks as she and Genevieve enter the old city jail.

"Nope, he's still out cold," Lexi speaks, before her eyes land on Genevieve. "Hey, there princess." She smiles.

"Lexi." Genevieve greets, walking over and giving her a hug. "This is my mom."

"Madison Sinclair. I've heard a lot about you." Lexi chuckles, eyeing Maddy up and down. "The sexy badass redhead who manages to get everyone wrapped around her finger."

"Strawberry blonde, actually." Elena corrects. "Not that it's important." She shakes her head, snapping her mouth shut.

"I prefer Madison Sinclair, but thanks for the compliments," Maddy smirks, raising her eyebrows.

"You and I," Lexi starts, her finger pointing between Madison and herself. "Would've been great friends."

"Judging by the way you look, I'm sure we would've been more than that," Maddy states not hiding the fact that she was checking the girl out.

"I don't go that way." Lexi smiles, shaking her head.

"Mm neither did Elena or any of the other girls I've slept with throughout my lifetime. Then they met me and they just couldn't keep their eyes off of me. Isn't that right, Elena?" She questions the doppelgänger whose eyes had already been glued to her.

Lexi glances back at Elena, an amused smile forming on her face when she notices how flustered the brunette got. "Stealing Stefan's girl?" She raises an eyebrow, looking back at Maddy.

"Me? No, of course not. Well, not yet at least. He's got one more time to push my buttons and I just might. But right now, we are strictly friends."

"Right, friends." Elena sighs, a part her not liking that word being used to describe her and Maddy's relationship.

It was complicated, but it was obvious to almost everyone that Elena liked Maddy in more than just a friend type of way. Genevieve strayed from the three girls, making her way to a still unconscious Stefan who sat chained to a chair.

"Klaus really did a number on him, huh?" Lexi sighs, watching as Genevieve circled the Salvatore.

"He compelled him to turn off his humanity." Elena states.

"Well, we're just going to have to convince him to turn it back on. I have to warn you if Genevieve isn't the answer, then it's not going to be pretty." Lexi warns glancing between Elena and Maddy.

"I can handle it." Elena nods.

"Vieve and are only here for a few minutes. I really don't wanna be here at all." Maddy sighs.

"Why are you so against helping Stefan get his humanity back on?" Elena snaps.

"I'm not. I just don't feel that my daughter and I have to spend our last moments together being a part of it. If this was any other day I would be all for spending hours upon hours helping you, but it's not. It's the last time I get to see her ever again and yet here we are spending it helping you and Stefan." Maddy explains, the annoyance clear in her voice.

"Five minutes, Maddy. That's all." Lexi states, completely understanding where she was coming from. "If his switch isn't on after he sees her then you guys go and Elena will not bother you for the rest of the day. I'll make sure of it."

Lexi knew just how precious this time was for Genevieve. All the girl talked about on the other side was her mom and how much she wanted to see her again. She thought it was pretty insensitive of Elena to ask Maddy to do this. But she also knew the doppelgänger would do anything to get Stefan's humanity back on.

"He's gotten cuter since I saw him," Genevieve speaks, gaining their attention. "I like the hair."

"He's changed a lot since you saw him Vieve." Maddy sighs.

"I don't doubt it. I changed too. It happens." She shrugs, moving a piece of hair out of Stefan's face.

"Sure does princess." Lexi smiles at her before kicking Stefan's chair. "Wake up, sleepyhead."

His body jerks awake before his eyes land on Lexi, not yet noticing Genevieve who stood slightly behind her.

"How you feelin'?" She questions.

He glances at the chair and the chains as he starts to struggle with the restraints. When he finally notices the young brunette, his movements come to a halt.

"Evie?" He questions, squinting his eyes to make sure he was seeing correctly.

"Surprise...Turns out Lexi isn't the only one who came back from the dead." She smirks.

Almost. He could feel his humanity trying to claw its way back. Trying so hard to turn itself back on. For a second it flickered. For a second it was nearly on. A slight quiver of emotion broke through and they all saw right before his face turned void again.

"What is this? A reunion of the dead people in my life? Let me out of here!" He shouts.

"Ouch. I was expecting a better reaction than that considering you're one of the reasons I'm dead." Genevieve sighs, setting her hands on her hips.

"Shh. Inside voices, please. I'm trying to get inside your head." Lexi speaks, focused on Stefan.

"Elena. Get rid of her. Get rid of both of them, please." He begs, his eyes moving between his girlfriend and the two ghosts that stood in front of him.

"You know, these two are here trying to help you turn your humanity back on so you can stop acting like an ass and lose any shot you have left with Elena. We all know that when you do turn it back on and she's found interest in someone else, uh your brother, for example, you're gonna boohoo and cry like a little...hmm, what's the word I'm looking for?" Maddy furrows her brows trying to find the right word to use.

"Bitch. He'll cry like a little bitch." Genevieve answers proudly.

"Yeah, that sounds about right." Maddy nods before pointing a finger at her daughter. "Thank you and watch your language."

"Sir yes sir." Genevieve smiles, bringing her hand up to salute her mom.

"Anyway, my point is, you should try being a little more grateful." Maddy sighs, looking at Stefan before glancing between Lexi and Elena. "Times up. Let's go Vieve."

"Good luck," Genevieve calls as she follows her mom out.

Maddy stops, turning to face the two girls. "I know you didn't ask but I'm gonna say it anyway. In my opinion, you guys are wasting your time."

"You saw his eyes when he saw Genevieve. We were close. I'm not giving up." Elena shakes her head.

"I'm not saying to give up, I'm saying don't get your hopes too high." Maddy corrects, giving the girl a look of sympathy before turning to Lexi. "It was nice meeting you, Lexi."

"Yeah, the same goes for you. Have fun with your daughter." She nods.

Maddy sighs as she and Genevieve walk out of the city jail into the night's cool air. She didn't want Elena to give up on Stefan, she would never want that. She just wanted to make sure she wasn't hoping too much for something that wasn't gonna happen. Sure, Lexi may have gotten his humanity back on after he himself willingly turned it off. But this was different. He was compelled by an Original to turn it off. This was gonna be harder, a lot harder.

"Do you really think they're wasting their time?" Genevieve questions, breaking the silence.

"Yeah, I do." Maddy nods.

"This Klaus guy, he's the one who compelled Stefan to turn his humanity off?"

"Mhmm."

"Are you sure he's a good guy?"

Maddy runs her hand through her hair as she speaks. "I never said he was a good guy. I said he's good to me."

Before Genevieve could respond, Maddy's phone rings in her pocket. She quickly pulls it out, rolling her eyes when she sees Caroline's name pop up on the screen.

"What do you want?" She questions, putting the phone to her ear.

"Listen, Maddy, I know you hate my guts right now but I'm about to take on a bunch of angry tomb vampires that are trying to kill Tyler's mom and I could really use your help. I know you hate Tyler too but..." She rambles before Maddy quickly cuts her off.

"I'll be there in a second, Care." She states any animosity she felt towards the blonde fading away when she heard how desperate and panicked she was.

Quickly grabbing ahold of a confused Genevieve she shoves her phone back into her pocket and speeds away.

When Maddy and Genevieve arrived at the crash site, they found a group of vampires circling Caroline.

"Stay here." Maddy sighs glancing at Genevieve before walking over to the group. "Hey!" She shouts, gaining their attention, most of their eyes widening when they saw her.

"Maddy." Caroline sighs in relief, speeding over to her.

Maddy nods her head at the blonde, gently shoving her over to stand with Genevieve.

"Yeah, you know who I am. The girl that you just tried picking a fight with is my...friend." She sighs, glancing at Caroline who had her arm wrapped around Genevieve's shoulder protectively. "Which means now we have a problem, and I don't think you want that."

All of the ghost vampires step back in surrender except for one. He went by the name of Fredrick, one of the multiple tomb vampires John Gilbert had killed before Maddy arrived in Mystic Falls.

"You're right, we know exactly who you are." He nods, stepping forward. "And unlike everyone else, I'm not scared of you."

"You should be!" Genevieve shouts from where she's standing. "Because my mom is gonna kick your ass."

"We'll see about that, sweetheart." He chuckles before vamping out and speeding at the strawberry blonde.

Before he can reach her, Maddy quickly moves out of the way, dodging him with ease. "Gotta be quicker than that." She taunts, a smirk on her face.

More vampires gain the courage to jump in, two more rushing at her. Raising her arms, she elbows both of them in the face before turning around and snapping their necks. Another one runs toward her, Maddy quickly kicking him in the chest before snapping his neck just as easily as the other two.

"Come on, this is pathetic. An insult to me actually." Maddy sighs, turning to face Fredrick. "Tell me you're gonna put up more of a fight than they did?" She questions.
With an annoyed huff, he speeds at her again, sending a punch to her jaw. "That's all you got?" She laughs. "For a vampire, you sure hit like a bitch."

Taking her turn, she raises her fist throwing it forward, it harshly colliding with Fredrick's face. The man goes flying through the air, landing a few feet away from her. A few seconds later, before he can get up he disappears along with the rest of the vampires.

"No." Maddy shakes her head to where only Caroline now stood. "No no no." She panics, realizing that Bonnie had fixed the hole in the other side.

"I'm sorry Maddy." Caroline sighs, giving the older vampire a look of sympathy.

"No, not yet. I didn't...I didn't get to...I didn't get to tell her goodbye." She cries out running a hand through her hair as tears slip from her eyes.

"Maddy." Caroline cautiously approaches her, not knowing exactly what to do at that moment.

"I didn't get to tell her it was ok for her to find peace. I didn't even get to tell her I love her." She shakes her head falling to her knees, the pain of losing Genevieve for the second time becoming too much for her to handle.

Caroline's eyes widen in fear as she watches the vampire dig her fingernails into the palm of her hand, her eyes turning into dark lifeless pools of black. Maddy opens her mouth letting out a heartbreaking scream sending Caroline flying backward multiple feet, blood dripping from her ears, eyes, and nose. This scream was like none of the others ones she'd ever done. More pain, more power, more darkness.

The ground shook as if there were an earthquake happening right in Mystic Falls. The street lights exploded sending glass flying everywhere. Windows shattered, and people for miles upon miles fell to the ground unconscious. When her scream finally came to an end, it left her and Caroline both unconscious in the street. Everyone who knew exactly what had just happened panicked as they quickly flew into action to find Maddy.

As for Klaus Mikaelson, who was a few miles away from Mystic Falls, he pressed his foot even harder on the gas, swerving through traffic to hurry up and reach Maddy. Something was wrong with his girl and he knew it. He punched the steering wheel as the cars came to a stop due to a car pileup, one that was most likely caused by none other than Madison Sinclair.

"Bloody hell..." He sighs angrily, quickly getting out of the car and speeding the rest of the way on foot.

He was gonna be there for Maddy and nothing was going to stand in his way...
