9. Dr. Kenma

Song: Ruby- Foster the People

Everyone looked around at each other. Yamaguchi looked confused, ane Suga mumbled something like, "Who's Natsu?" to Daichi. Even Tanaka went quiet, something extremely out of character for him.

Kageyama clenched his fists in his pockets.

Yamaguchi was the first one to break the silence. "What should we do?" He looked back at the group, a worried look carved into his gentle features. He reminded Tobio of his mom.

"Should we leave?" Daichi offered, rubbing the side of his arm. He looked as worried as any of them.

Suga bit his lip. "Will he be okay on his own, though?"

A defensive voice suddenly spoke up, sounding more assertive than Tobio had first assumed. "I'm taking care of him. He'll be fine." Kenma.

Tobio felt his dislike for the shorter boy grow, found himself speaking up. "How do you know that?"  The bitterness in his voice surprised everyone- himself included.

Suga mumbled quietly, "Kageyama, don't." He put his hand on Tobio's shoulder. "If Kenma said he's taking care of him, he is. Have a little faith." There was something in Sugawara's voice that persuaded Kageyama to back down. He still wasn't happy, didn't know why, but he let it go.

As everyone filed out of the room, Kageyama paused for a second to look back at the sleeping boy. His face was still contorted in that horrible expression, and something in Kageyama went out to the boy. What could he possibly be feeling to make him look like that?

It was the most vulnerable he'd ever seen anyone in his life.

As Tobio turned away, it felt like half of him had left itself imprinted in that room. For a boy he knew nothing about, he felt like he knew everything.

Hinata, the boy who was always smiling and never said a bad thing, was hurting, and no one could do a damn thing.

Kenma closed the door as softly as he could when everyone left.

That black haired boy had been glaring at him the whole time; he still had goosebumps. Something about his better-than-everyone attitude annoyed Kenma.

As the door clicked shut, he heard Hinata rustle behind him. He was panting, still softly calling out that name.

"Natsu..." This time, barely audible. Kenma walked to the end of the bed and climbed the ladder after getting another wet cloth. He placed it on Shouyou's forehead.

He was so small, so vulnerable, so... Afraid. The look on his face was like nothing Kenma had ever seen.

He tried to push away all the negative thoughts forming in his mind. Please be okay, Hinata.

It was a while before he muttered her name again. Kenma had pieced it together a long time ago, upon meeting Hinata actually, who he was.

What had happened to his sister.

He'd seen the news report on what had happened all those years ago. Had confronted Shouyou about it.

He took a deep breath. Thinking those things wasn't going to help Hinata. He tried to channel all of his positive energy into the sleeping boy, but it was dumb and useless and didn't mean a thing because nothing would work except time.

Suddenly, Hinata's eyes shot open. They didn't focus for a few moments, and Kenma realized they were filled with tears. The boy finally settled on Kenma's figure looming above him. His face was erratic.

Hinata's chest was heaving up and down as he gasped for air but couldn't move enough without hurting immediately to wipe away the sweat. His throat croaked out a confused, "Natsu?" before collapsing back to sleep.

Kenma didn't take his eyes off of him for a few minutes. Finally, when he figured that it would be a while before he woke up again, Kenma climbed down and collapsed onto his own bunk.

He pulled a PSP out of his pocket and opened Pokémon, tried messing around for a few minutes before he tossed the game aside.

Kenma didn't feel like playing anymore.
