11. Hinata's Return To Garden Club

Song: Traffic in the Sky- Jack Johnson

A cold hand was on Hinata's forehead... followed by Kenma's soothing voice mumbling, "Are you awake?"

I am now, Hinata thought as he struggled to sit up. "Yeah." He glanced around. The room was dimly lit, so for a second, he thought it was night, but he quickly realized that the curtains had just been drawn to keep out the day's remaining light. And that just reminded him of the pounding headache beating away at his brain. And that reminded him that he had better not be sick by the time the weekend was over or he'd have to make up his missing work in classes he was already behind in. And that reminded him of the visit from from the garden club earlier that day. Or had it been yesterday? He couldn't remember.

He'd forgotten that Kenma was still there, sitting next to him on the small twin mattress, eyes blank, staring orbs. "The boy with black hair stopped by." It was a slightly bitter statement. Even if Hinata couldn't read his facial expressions, Kenma's voice often revealed more about him than most people realized.

"What did he... Say?" The headache still pounded away at his skull.

"Nothing." Kenma glanced away for a brief moment; he was uncomfortable, maybe hiding something? But Hinata was too tired to question him further. In fact, he'd rather not know at the moment, because sleep had top priority.

"Night, Kenma-aaah-"

He was already snoring.

Two days later, Hinata was finally back to normal.

Everyone had been ecstatic that day during garden club. All the members had made sure to come, and they bounced on the tip of their heels in excitement for Hinata's return. Even Kageyama felt something stir inside of him to hear that the orange fluff ball was coming back.

The very first step Hinata took into that glass building felt like coming home. He walked in with his head down but shot it back up when he heard the "WELCOME BACK!"'s being screamed at him by every single member of the club. They had a bright pink banner, held up by Suga, Yamaguchi, and an awkward Kageyama (who looked slightly less irritated than normal). Tanaka came running and screaming through the banner, ripping it right in half as he tackled Hinata with a bear hug. Shouyou felt the life-force being drained from his body, but he was happy.

So, so happy.

Right?

He tried to sound healthy as he chatted with the members, clearing his throat every five seconds. Suga and Daichi double hugged him and offered their sincere apologies for not going to see him earlier, and Suga told him that everyone had taken their share of watering Hinata's plants while he was gone. Yamaguchi plopped a flower crown on top of his head. He'd made it out of daisies and said that it complimented his hair and eyes perfectly. Tanaka gave him another bone-crushing hug and said that they needed to all hang out soon. Lastly, there was Tobio Kageyama.

He walked up to Hinata stiffly, hands shoved into his pockets, and wiped away a bead of sweat. He said hi. "Kenma told me you came to visit?"

Kageyama avoided his gaze, scratching the top of his head. "Oh, uh, I just came to see how you were doing." He paused. "I think I know you."

Hinata laughed, looking confused. "Yeah...? I guess."

The tall, gangly boy's eye twitched. "No, I mean... I get you." How else can I say it?

This wasn't the time or place to be saying this, but he felt like he needed to get it off his chest. If Hinata was in trouble, then Tobio had so many questions...

Hinata laughed uncomfortably, like he didn't know how to respond. "Do you feel okay? Maybe I passed my sickness onto you???" He reached up to feel Tobio's forehead- couldn't reach it.

"Your past-" His words were cut off by a loud mouth off to the right.

"Hinata, catch!" Tanaka chucked a strawberry toward the pair, high up in the air.

With astounding skill, Hinata soared through the air, his stomach level with Kageyama's field of vision, and caught it in his mouth.

When gravity pulled him back to the ground, everyone in the room began to clap and whistle and yell. Yamaguchi was laughing his seal of approval, sticking a thumbs up into the air.

"That's our Hinata, alright." Suga smiled, leaning his head onto Daichi's shoulder.

Tobio turned bright red.

How could he help a boy that acted like he didn't need helping?
