15. Pushed Too Far

Song: Aware- Front Porch Step

Heyheyhey, I started a Klance fanfic (Voltron) and posted the first chapter on my account, so check that out too:)

The day finally came for Tanaka and Kageyama to visit Hinata.

That Saturday morning, Tanaka had woken up late, forgotten to brush his teeth, and he smelled faintly like cold pizza and sweat.

It wasn't a great day for him so far, to say the least.

Kageyama hadn't had that good of a start either. He couldn't sleep until three in the morning because of Oikawa's cheesy karaoke, he still wasn't sure if he wanted to quit the club, and he was nervous about talking only two-on-one with Shouyou.

When both boys arrived, they knocked on the door. A mumbled 'who is it' came from the other side, but no one opened the door to let them in.

"Friends of Hinata. Can you let us in?" Tanaka looked nervous in Kageyama's eye. But that must be been impossible, because did Tanaka even get nervous?

Suddenly, they heard whispering-- Only caught fragments of what was being said.

"Should-----------them in?" From what Kageyama remembered, that was Shouyou's slothy roommate. He groaned mentally.

"Make up------------don--------in." Hinata. Sounded panicked.

"---you sure? You need to ----------ding them."

"Please, just don't -------------."

A few seconds later, Kenma's voice said loud and clear, "He's not here right now."

Kageyama went to bang his fist on the door, demanding they be let in because they knew Hinata was in there, but Tanaka stopped him by gently putting a hand on his shoulder. When he looked over, the boy that usually had a delinquent smirk was frowning. Kageyama dropped his arm instantly.

"Can we leave a message for him?" Tanaka shouted back through the door. He had his head pressed against the tan wood.

There was more mumbling between Hinata and Kenma before the latter finally said yes.

"Tell him I... No, tell him everyone at the club misses him and that he doesn't have to be afraid anymore. Tell him-" He sounded like he was choking up. "Tell him that Tanaka Ryuunosuke and Kageyama Tobio will be waiting for him at the cafe on the corner. Tell him he has to come."

And with that Tanaka turned and walked down the hall, lifting an arm to his face. Tobio thought he heard him sniffle, might've been his imagination.

"Is he really going to come?" Kageyama asked, tracing the rim of his coffee cup.

"He will."

If Ryuunosuke believed that Hinata would, then he would. He knew him better than anyone.

Suddenly, the sound of a ringtone went off and Tanaka apologized, answering his phone.

"Yes, I know, I just have to-"

"No, I didn't forget it's just-"

"AGH! Fine! Now would you please stop yelling-"

Tanaka pulled the phone away from his ear and grinned sheepishly. "My boyfriend is mad because I forgot our one year anniversary."

Kageyama's jaw dropped. "You're... Gay?"

Tanaka puffed out his chest slightly, ready to put out any problem that might arise. "Bisexual, actually. Got a problem with that?"

Kageyama raised his eyebrows and put up his hands. "No, actually, I, uh... I'm gay, too."

Tanaka laughed. "I'm just shitting with you. And I already knew you were, man. You're so obvious." His face turned serious. "I wish I could stay, but Ennoshita- my boyfriend- will kill me if I don't come visit him with the most romantic gift of all time, and I don't have anything yet. So I've gotta go. Sorry for putting you on the spot. Do you think you can talk to Hinata yourself?"

He shot up and left without waiting for Kageyama's response.

And then, there was one.

... Was it really that obvious that Tobio was gay?

The sound of jingling bells surrounded the room as the cafe door opened and in walked a small patch of orange hair.

Tobio watched the boy with muffled concern.

Shouyou didn't seem vibrant today. Less like the sun, more like... An old lightbulb.

When Hinata saw Kageyama, he looked confused, but walked toward the tall boy anyway and sat down.

Up close, Tobio could see just how bad the smaller one had gotten. Dark circles under his bloodshot eyes, a nervous twitch of his top lip, uncombed hair, sloppily thrown on clothes. Hinata looked like the poster child for sleep deprivation.

Shouyou got right to the point. "You said you wanted to meet me here?"

Kageyama didn't know what to do. Why had Tanaka left him alone? What was he expecting Kageyama to say? "That was Tanaka, but, uh... Yeah. He left because of an... emergency."

Hinata seemed skinnier than normal- it was hard to tell with all the layers he had on. "Is he okay?"

"Oh, n-no! Nothing bad. He just forgot an anniversary with his boyfriend."

That produced a small smile out of the other boy. It was then that Kageyama noticed the small flask sticking out of his pocket, and he gasped. "Is that..."

He hadn't taken Shouyou for the alcohol type.

Hinaya looked at it, shook his head. "It's just couch medicine. This was from when I-... It was the only thing I had to carry it in."

Kageyama nodded, suddenly noticing the awkward aura between them. They were still strangers, it seemed.

"So, the reason you called me here... what is it exactly?"

Suddenly, Kageyama felt angry. He felt angry at the boy who kept secrets from everyone, at the boy who didn't realize how much his friends cared, at the boy who ignored the world when it was convenient for him.

"Stop being such a baby."

Hinata's eyes grew wide. "What?"

Tobio didn't try to backtrack. "It's obvious that you've been avoiding everyone. And yeah, we might not know each other that well, but maybe that's why I can say this. Because your friends are so worried about you, and they're trying their best to help you with whatever the hell it is that you're so depressed about, but you keep pushing them away. Does that sound fair to you?!" He was out of breath and out of line, but he was getting shit off of his chest. "At the very least, quit acting like a stuck up baby and go explain to them why you haven't returned their calls or texts or gone to any of the meetings. How can you even call yourself their friend?"

When he was done, Hinata gave him a cold stare. "I have to go."

The look on the boy's face told Kageyama that the conversation was over, but he wasn't done yet. He grabbed him by the wrist as he tried to stand.

"I wasn't finished."

"And I don't need your permission." With astonishing strength, Hinata tore his arm away.

"Tell Sugawara that I quit."
