Song: someone you like- the girl and the dreamcatcher

Warning: severe cheesiness......I'm sorry in advance

Daichi watched in horror at the sight that was Sugawara Koushi.

The silver-haired boy seemed not to notice his staring and continued to stuff as much candy as he could into his jacket pockets, even placing them in hidden pockets sewn in to the inside of his jacket.

Finally, when he finished, he looked up at Daichi and did a model turn. "Well?"

The latter didn't know what to say. He was somewhere between uncontrollable laughter and incredulous disbelief.

Suga looked like he'd gained ten pounds with all the candy in his jacket-- like an adorable Michelin man.

"I mean... It's a look."

Koushi gave him a lighthearted punch. "I meant, can you tell I have candy in my coat?"

Daichi barely repressed a grin. "Nope. Absolutely not. No. Nope."

"That was one too many nopes." Suga added, not picking up on Daichi's sarcasm. He brushed invisible dust off of his jacket and started for the door.

When Daichi failed to follow, he waited impatiently with arms crossed. "We're going to be late if you too any longer, mister."

"Yeah, okay, mom."

As far as Daichi was concerned, he could've just watched the best movie ever created in the history of movies and he'd have no idea.

He spent the whole movie sweating about the way Suga had casually wrapped his feet around Daichi about ten minutes in to the film. Now, he was even closer, with his head rested on Sawamura's shoulder as his eyelashes flickered at the screen.

He tried to ignore the proximity. And the bead of sweat rolling down his back. And how soft Suga's hands were. And how hot he was.

"Are you okay? You're really warm and your cheeks are red." Suddenly, Sugawara's face was too close to Daichi's, probably inspecting for some nonexistent sickness.

"Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine." He tried to focus on the movie screen. Please stop staring, please stop staring, please stop staring-

"Wait, are you nervous?"

Daichi cursed in his head. Of course Suga would be able to tell-- they'd been friends since sixth grade, so of course he would be able to read his emotions.

Daichi nodded slowly. Gulped.

Suga rested his head near the crook of Daichi's neck, finding comfort in the warmth that came from his best friend when his own body was always so cold. "Why?"

Daichi didn't know how to answer. He just wanted Suga to focus back on the movie.

"Is it because of the club?"

You could say that. He muttered a no and told Suga to hush so he could 'focus on the movie.'

And he did, for a few minutes.

But then, "Is it Hinata?"

He considered saying yes, since it would get Sugawara to stop asking questions he didn't want to answer, but then Suga wouldn't let him rest until he talked about his feelings.

So, "No. I'll tell you after the movie." He noticed the way his heart raced at the thought of what he had just proposed-- but when he looked over at Suga, smiling at the movie screen without realizing that Daichi was looking, he looked so at peace that Daichi felt himself calming down, if only a little bit, as well.

Of course, he was still nervous as all hell.

***

The drive back in the car was... Stressful.

"So, what was up with you back there?" Suga mumbled nonchalantly to the car window. He rested his head in his hand. Was it really dark out already?

Daichi felt his leg tap unsteadily as he made a left turn. "I, uh." A single drop of sweat trickled down his neck. "Can we talk about it somewhere else?"

Suddenly, he got an idea and made an illegal U-turn with the car, swinging around in the opposite direction from Suga's apartment. If he was going to do this, he was going to do it right.

Sugawara waited patiently during the car ride. When they pulled up to the arboretum, its glass glistening in the late night moonlight, he started to think that something was up.

Still, he followed Daichi's suit and got out of the car, following him inside after Sawamura unlocked the building with his spare key. Why were they here?

Past the newly arrived chrysanthemums, past the rows of carrots, past the rose bushes, over the small bridge. He lost sight of him around the rose area but caught up with a huffing Daichi in front of the cherry blossom tree.

It was beautiful-- the petals, with their pink glow sitting soft in the warm arboretum air, and the moonlight gave the tree a heavenly look. He had to look twice to take it all in.

Of course, he'd seen the cherry blossom in bloom plenty of times before, but something seemed different tonight. Maybe it was the atmosphere. Maybe it was the fact that it was just him and Daichi alone, standing under their favorite tree at midnight.

He let his mind wander to what Daichi might have to tell him-- tried to erase the silly fantasies before they got too far.

"So, are you going to tell me why you dragged me out here, or am I going to have to-... "

His voice caught in his throat when he looked down at Daichi.

His best friend was standing in front of him with cheeks the color of cherry blossom petals, a rose in his hand.

He cleared his throat, already regretting what he was about to say. "I'm sorry about forcing you out here. But I, uh, I have something that I need to tell you." Was the air getting hot? Had his tongue always been this dry? His chest rapidly rose and fell as he took in a deep breath before meeting Sugawara's gaze.

"Don't tell me..." Koushi trailed off. Suddenly, he was back in high school, sitting up in the tree just outside of Daichi's neighborhood, listening to his best friend cry as he came out to him as being gay.

"Please. Don't hate me after this." Daichi looked ready to pass out.

He looked at the rose in his hand, its bright red petals overwhelming his senses. He blinked, feeling the whole weight of the world pressing on his arm as he opened his mouth to speak. Here goes nothing. Or everything.

"Sugawara Koushi, I think I'm in love with you."

It was like how they say dying is-- your whole life, flashing right in front of your eyes. But this time, it was Daichi's memories of his friendship with Sugawara. First meeting through their middle school volleyball club, their late night phone calls, baking together, Koushi somehow persuading Daichi into volunteering with him at a local daycare, how sweet Suga's parents were, Daichi cutting his little sister's hair and having to call Sugawara to come fix it when he completed butchered it. All of it, playing back like some sort of movie reel. There were a few bad moments, like the fight from their last year of high school. That had been a terrible time, he remembered. They'd both been angry at each other for whatever dumb reason, he couldn't remember anymore, but they hadn't spoken for weeks. Finally, a mutual friend couple on the volleyball team, Asahi and Nishinoya, had forced them to make up by locking them in the club room and refusing to let them out until they made up. He bit back the memories.

Finally, Daichi held out the rose, waiting for the rejection that he was so sure would inevitably come.

Only... It never did.

Just silence, the sound of a fan blowing somewhere in the distance, and his own heart beat, loud in his chest.

He forced himself to look up as every cell in his brain told him not to.

There, he found Sugawara with a confused look on his face.

But... He'd just... What had... Was this...?

"Did I say love?" He tried to backtrack, shriveling on the inside. "I meant... Uh, like." As if that was any better.

Suddenly, the other was grinning.

Sugawara swallowed, trying to wipe the idiotic grin off of his face, but it was futile. He reached out for the rose.

Was this moment real? Could he frame it? He tried to burn the image into his mind, of Daichi in front of him, cheeks red and eyes wide.

Their fingers brushed as he took the rose.

Finally, Daichi cut through the thick silence, looking absolutely miserable and yet as though an insanely heavy burden had been lifted. "Please, could you just say something? I'm dying over here, you know."

Suga realized that he hadn't said anything since the confession. "Oh, I-... So you are being serious right now, right?"

Daichi rubbed his face with his hands, wanting to hide. "Unfortunately," he groaned.

When he looked back through a gap in his fingers, Suga was still smiling.

"I'm sorry, I just don't know how to react!" He let out a soft chuckle. "You really-- you really surprised me, that's all... I...never thought that..." For once, he found that words just weren't cutting it.

He tried to bite back another grin, but it didn't work, and it ended up spilling out as the biggest smile ever.

"Why the hell didn't you say anything sooner?"

Daichi's eyes widened in shock. "Wait, wha-"

He was cut off by Suga tucking the rose behind Daichi's ear. Koushi's hand brushed against the side of his face and lingered there as he came closer. His silver hair glistened in the moonlight, or maybe it was just Daichi's imagination, but he looked like an angel. "If I'd have known you felt that way, I would've done this a lot sooner."

And then he kissed him.
