Chapter 10 : Notebook

Constance was drying Jane's stuff with a hairdryer. They were six in their room, sharing with two girls and two boys. They weren't there today, letting the two sisters alone.

- "If you don't do anything for this, I will," said the blonde teen.

- "I don't wanna fight, I don't like it," answered Jane.

- "So what!? You're gonna let them bully you your entire school years!?"

- "No..."

- "Then, do something! Talk to someone who can help you! A teacher, the principal, the nurse, someone! I don't want you to have problems! I can take care of this if you want."

- "No, it's fine, I'll find a way. You think I can ask a new notebook to Rachel?"

- "Yeah, you can try, she likes you."

Jane had a childish satisfied smile. She left the room and walked through the house, looking for one of the owners. Rachel was in the kitchen with other teens.

- "Rachel?"

- "Yes sweetheart?" smiled the young woman.

- "Can I have another notebook for my drawings?"

- "Sure, you already filled the other one?"

- "Someone threw it in the toilet," explained Jane.

- "What!? Aw, cutie, I'm so sorry. Wait for me here, I bring you another one."

- "Thank you."

The woman gave a small caress on the brown head's cheeks before leaving the kitchen. While Rachel couldn't see her, Jane took two cookies which she hid in her jacket. The woman went back with a notebook and gave it to Jane. The young girl thanked her and went back in her room where Constance stopped drying the books. Jane put a cookie on the desk.

- "This is for you."

- "Oh, thanks," smiled Constance. "She gave you a new notebook?"

- "Yes, there is a unicorn on it," told Jane, sitting on her bed and taking Mr. Bear and tiny Paddington in her arms. "I wish Dog could come inside; he must be bored outside."

- "Don't worry for him, he has friends, look."

Jane straightened her neck and saw her dog playing with two other dogs.

- "Yeah, but I would prefer having him with me."

- "I know. Hey, what are you doing!?"

- "...drawing?"

- "Did you do your exercises?" frowned Constance.

- "I read them..."

- "Exercises first, drawing after, clear?"

- "Ok..." sighed Jane. "But my books are still wet, I can't read correctly."

- "Don't find excuses, you can perfectly read, don't be lazy."

- "I'm not lazy, I just don't like doing exercises."

- "I know, but when they're done, you'll be able to play with Dog or drawing, ok?"

- "Yeah, yeah..."

Jane sighed loudly with her mouth to show her discontentment. She hated mathematics, she didn't know why she had to know all of this, she just wanted to draw! But, it was important, but especially annoying.

- "How is it with your friends? Still nice?"

- "Yeah, Max telled me I was her best friend, so she is my best friend too. I had a drawing for her, but it drowned."

- "You'll draw her another one?"

- "Of course, after my interesting exercises!"

- "I'm sure you love them," mocked Constance.

- "Oh yeah, totally, who would like to live with no mathematics!"

- "Certainly everyone."

- "I can't disagree with them."

Constance playfully pushed her sister's head who was chuckling.

- "You should do some conjugation, you make any effort with your verbs!"

- "I know, but it's too hard."

- "It's not, you could, at least, know the basics!"

- "Ok..."

Jane quickly did her exercises and barely read her book of conjugation to have all her time to draw. She wanted Max' drawing to be perfect, even better than the first one. When she finished, she showed it to Constance who approved it. As it was late night, Constance lighted off the lamp and lied down next to Jane, in the same small bed. Jane couldn't wait to go back to school, wanting to give her drawing to her new best friend.
