Chapter 17 : Halloween

The group of friends noticed that Jane was sad the next days because of the memory of her mother, so they decided to invite her to spend Halloween with them, hoping it would change her mind. A party celebrating horror and these kinds of things wasn't the best one for her, but she was going to spend some time with her friends, so she thought she could do it. She went to Max' house to prepare herself. The redhead chose a rabbit costume while Jane chose to be a vampire, as they already had the teeth, like they said. Once ready, they joined the others at Mike's house to collect their candies. Jane was so happy, she loved so much candies and people were very generous with them, she couldn't wait to taste all of them!

While Jane was having fun with her friends, Constance decided to go to a party with the other teens. She arrived in the middle of the crowd and saw Robin wearing a Bob Marley costume.

- "Yo," smiled Constance.

- "Hey, what's your costume? A Scoops Ahoy worker?"

- "You don't recognize me? I'm Steve."

- "Pffff, you're stupid!" chuckled Robin. "Well, speak of the devil."

- "Hey girls! Oh shit, don't tell me you work with us now!?" said Steve.

- "Nah, don't worry, I just wanted to be you for one night."

- "Well, I can't blame you, who wouldn't like to be me for one night!"

The two girls chuckled before playfully pushing his head. The three friends were joined by Jonathan who seemed completely lost.

- "You look to be so comfy here, I can see you're enjoying being here," mocked Constance.

- "Oh yeah, totally!" lightly chuckled the boy. "Nancy kinda insisted, and I can't say no, so, here I am!"

- "Yeah, wearing your costume of a random boy!"

- "My favorite costume."

The four teens kept chatting a moment. After a few minutes, they began to hear some loud noises coming from outside and slowly coming inside. Apparently, some people were happy to see one of their friends.

- "Oh shit! He came back!" stated Robin.

- "It's Billy!?" frowned Steve.

- "Of course, who else! I thought it was permanent this time!"

- "Apparently not," sighed Jonathan. "You should hide, if he sees you, you're dead."

- "I'm not scared of this asshole, if he has a problem with me, I can handle it," answered Constance.

- "I hope you can, because he is coming to us!"

Steve, Robin, and Jonathan all stepped back, letting some space for Billy, not wanting to be involved in this. Billy stopped in front of Constance, at a few centimeters, his eyes bulging, and his nostrils dilated.

- "I wouldn't try anything if I was you, too many witnesses," provoked Constance with a calm tone.

But Billy wanted witnesses, to see how strong he was. He didn't want them to think he was weak because she managed to twist his wrist one time! One fucking time! He grabbed her tee-shirt and blocked her against the wall. Constance wasn't scared, she was used to fighting with people like him. She had a small smirk before raising her knee, crushing his balls. While Billy was trying to take the pain, Constance pushed him, making him fall. She thought it was over, but Billy angrily stood and punched her in her nose. The two got lost into a violent fight, encouraged by the people around. Robin, Steve, and Jonathan tried to intervene to stop them, but with no success. Some minutes after, police cars arrived and arrested the two teens. They were put in two different cells to let them calm down. Hopper questioned the teens at the party, and all explained that Billy was the first one to hit. He wasn't surprised, he arrested many times the young boy for similar facts, so he freed the blonde teen.

- "What a fast justice!" stated Constance with an irritated tone.

- "You wanna stay for the night?"

- "No, thanks, I've other things to do!"

- "That's what I thought. It's not the first time we met, right?"

- "Why!? You want my number!?"

- "You want me to arrest you for affront at a policeman?" asked Hopper.

- "Can I just go without answering your creepy questions!?"

- "Yeah, you're free, and I don't want to arrest you again, is it clear?"

- "Yeah, yeah, whatever!"

Constance grabbed her bag and left the police station. It was late night and she had to pick Jane up. She went directly to Joyce's house who opened to her with a smile who faded when she saw the bandages on her face and hands. Jane arrived with her bag full of candies and showed her before asking:

- "What happened?"

- "Nothing, I just got into a fight."

She saw that the redhead who was friend with her sister was still there and thought she could prevent her.

- "Your stepbrother is back!"

- "Oh shit, no! Damn, I should go before it becomes hell at home," sighed Max.

- "You can stay here if you want," proposed Will.

- "No, no, it's fine, don't worry."

- "You want me to drive you?" told Joyce.

- "I have my skateboard, it's fine."

Max didn't wait for more to quickly leave. Jane took a candy from her bag and held it out to her sister.

- "Oh, uh, thanks."

- "You don't want a ride?" proposed Joyce.

- "No, we're good," answered Constance a bit sharply.

Joyce didn't insist. Jane said goodbye to Will and Joyce before following her sister. She spent the walk telling her how funny her night was, while Constance was constantly looking around to be sure no one was going to assault them. Even if Billy was in cell for the night, it didn't mean one of his friends couldn't try to avenge him. Luckily, the two sisters arrived at their home with no problems. Jane nibbled her candies the entire walk and now she was feeling sick. Constance lightly mocked her because it was always like that when she was eating candies. The two girls managed to fall asleep after this nice night.
