Chapter 8 : New friends

Constance arrived in her new class. Robin didn't have class with her, but it was fine. She decided to sit next to a teen boy who seemed alone.

- "Yo," said Constance.

- "Um...Hi," answered the boy with a surprised expression.

- "You're the weirdo of this class, am I wrong?"

- "I, I guess I am."

- "I'm Constance."

- "Jonathan. You always approach people like that?"

- "I don't really approach people, usually."

- "Oh, ok, why me?" frowned Jonathan.

- "My sister is friend with your brother."

- "Oh yeah? Cool, I'm glad she made new friends."

- "Yeah, me too. You take pictures?"

- "You say that because I have a camera in my hands?" lightly mocked the boy.

- "It helped," smiled the blonde teen.

- "Yeah, well, I try to take pictures, I'm not that bad, but I'm certainly not the best."

- "I'm sure you're better than what you think."

- "I don't know. You wanna see?"

- "Totally!"

The two leaned to each other, Jonathan placing the camera between them and showing Constance all his pictures. It was mostly landscapes or people of his school, but she thought it was amazing.

- "A picture can tell so much more about someone than what they pretend to be," said the boy.

- "Really? What can you say about me?"

Jonathan took a picture of the girl, blinding her, before looking closely at it.

- "So?" asked Constance.

- "Well, you're ready?"

- "It's gonna be hard but I think I'll survive."

- "Well, you smile like if you wanted to hide your real emotions, not wanting people to use them against you or your little sister."

- "(nods) That's all?"

- "Um, yeah, I mean, you want me to make you cry?" chuckled Jonathan.

- "I don't know, you sold me this like if you could read in people's mind! I was expecting more, I'm disappointed," explained the blonde teen with a joking tone.

- "Don't worry, when I'm able to do that, you'll be the first one to know it."

- "I hope!"

The two friends chuckled. The teacher entering the room cut them in their conversation. It was history, and Constance wasn't very good at this, it was why she didn't learn much things to Jane about history. She didn't like it, it was like living in the past, and she didn't want to live in her past, too shitty.

The bell rang, enabling the teens to leave their classroom. On their way they met Robin with a boy with black hair.

- "Hey Constance, you made a new friend?" smiled Robin.

- "Yeah, it's Jonathan, but you certainly already each other."

- "Not that much, but maybe it's the opportunity to know better each other. Um, this is Steve, previously King Steve."

- "King Steve? What a funny nickname!"

- "I prefer calling him moron, it fits better."

- "Kinda cool. What happened to King Steve?" frowned Constance.

- "Well, two people. My ex-girlfriend and Billy," answered Steve.

- "Billy stole your girlfriend!?"

- "Ew, no! Jonathan did!"

- "What!? And you didn't tell me!? What a secretive guy! And Billy? You tried to hit on him?"

- "God, you have a weird mind!" chuckled Robin.

- "I'm just trying to understand, not everybody can read minds like Jonathan."

- "I, I don't read minds," told the boy like if it could be true.

- "No, but you can read pictures!"

- "Yeah...no...not really..."

The appearance of Jane saved Jonathan from his embarrassment. She got her sister's attention by grabbing her sleeve and shaking it.

- "I don't have food for lunch," said Jane.

Constance cleared her throat like if she was trying to cover her sister's voice before taking her away.

- "I know, it's just, at the welcome center there were no sandwiches anymore and I found nothing in the fridge so...maybe you could ask some of your friends if they can give you some of their lunch, ok?" told the blonde teen.

- "Ok..." sighed Jane.

Constance rubbed her sister's hair which annoyed her.

- "And stop being this cute!" told the blonde teen.

- "I'll try," answered Jane, flattening her hair.

While Jane was walking, she saw a poster for the AV club. She wondered what the AV club was, and what they were doing, but she was sure they weren't drawing. Her attention too focused on the poster, she didn't see Dustin in front of her and bumped into him.

- "Hey Jane, you were dreaming?" asked the boy, rubbing his forehead.

- "Yeah, uh, no, I was reading the poster."

- "AV Club? You're interested?"

- "I don't know, what is it?"

- "It's a club of science," smiled Dustin.

- "Oh, not my thing," lightly chuckled Jane.

- "Yeah? What's your thing?"

- "Drawing! I love drawing!"

- "Like Will! You have art class together?"

- "Yeah, it was cool. He is a very good drawer."

- "Totally! You eat with us?"

- "Um, if it don't bother you, I would like to."

- "You eat with us since days, if it would bother us, you would have understood it. You're our friend now," said Dustin.

- "Ok, cool," nodded Jane with a small smile.

The boy wrapped his arm around her shoulders and took her with him to the cafeteria. Dustin took his tray while Jane sat between Max and Lucas.

- "You don't eat?" asked the redhead.

- "Oh, uh, I, I forgetted my food..." told Jane, playing with her fingers to hide her discomfort.

- "I'm not surprised, you've a bit your head in the clouds! (puts her plate in the middle of them) Here, you can eat with me."

- "Uh, you're sure?"

- "Of course, I'll take another fork."

Max stood and left the table. The second after, Jane felt someone bumping into her back and a liquid flowing on her head.

- "Oh, no, I'm so sorry," said a blonde girl with a fake apologetic tone.

- "Oh, it's ok, it was an accident," said Jane.

The brown head grabbed a tissue and tried to dry herself with the help of Lucas next to her. Max came back and felt the anger growing inside her. She grabbed the blonde girl by her arm and pushed her away.

- "You can't leave people alone!? What the fuck is wrong with you, Abigail!? She didn't do anything to you!"

- "She doesn't have to, she is mentally handicapped, I mean, you've seen her!? She is the stupidest person ever!"

- "That's so untrue! She has some gaps in some subjects, but she is not stupid! I don't even know why I'm wasting my time with you, you're just garbage, move your ass before I kick it!"

The two girls stared at each other with angry eyes. Abigail had a small proud smile before walking away. Max sat next to Jane and took a tissue to help her.

- "Don't listen to them, they're assholes."

- "Oh, Max, this is a bad word," stated Jane looking around like if someone was going to yell at them.

The redhead had a sigh with her nose and a soft smile. Jane was too pure for this high school; the bullies were going to devour her! Someone just threw their drink on her on purpose, and Jane was smiling to her like if it was normal, and her biggest problem was that Max said a bad word. The redhead didn't resist and kissed her friend's cheek to show her that she could count on her. Max wrapped her arms around her and put her head on her shoulder, hoping they wouldn't bother her too much.
