Chapter 44

Over the next fifteen days, donghua took over her training of magic and weaponry as promised. He taught her how to circulate her energy and manipulate it to her advantage. He showed her the ways to control the discharge of her power and at the same time how to keep cultivating more. He walked her through different types of instruments and weapons that can be yielded with power and controlled through magic. Donghua ran her through several training exercises and weapon yielding moves every morning.

During the evening, he would take her for exploration around bihai cangling. Sometimes, they would end up swimming in the holy blue sea, sometimes they ended up planting trees and shrubs; and a couple of times he took her to meet his rides, his pet lion, and tiger. One such evening, he took her to the very bottom of the holy blue sea. When they stopped swimming, they ended up at a colossal silver rock, placed underneath the very center of the island. The rock though was suffused and gleaming with palpable divine energy. It radiated with raw power.

Nearing the rock, donghua placed his hand against the crater at the top of the rock. After a few moments, he slid his hand on the rock towards the right, in her direction. With the motion of his hand, a smooth rectangular slab detached from the rock and flowed into her hands. The moment she caught the slab in her hands, an image of the island, of bihai cangling started appearing on it. Awestruck, she watched as the image completed and then engraved itself on top of the slab. This struck a chord in her mind as she looked from the slab to the crater in the rock and finally, to donghua.

Hesitantly, she asked in his mind, "Is this...?"

Giving an affirmative nod, he answered, "it is."

Stepping forward, feng jiu touched the crater from where donghua was born. The moment her fingers touched it. She felt a warm sensation flowing through her. It felt as if she was being enveloped inside donghua's aura. Overwhelmed with such emotions, a tear slid down her face and onto the rock. Instead of getting lost in the seawater, her one drop of tear came into contact with the rock and formed a glowing red shield around it.

Startled, she looked up at donghua. He swam to her side, as in her mind he spoke, "we are two parts of a whole, xaio bai. The pure emotion of your tear just gave the rock the protection it had always lacked. Your emotions completed that rock, my love, just like you complete this old rock." He finished, pointing towards himself. She chuckled as they swam back up to the shore.

While feng jiu dried them off with her magic and channeled some much-required heat into their bodies, she asked, "why would you take out a slab from the rock you came from? Isn't it infused with creation magic?"

Donghua was surprised at her ingenious observation as he answered, "since I do not have any parents or ancestry, I decided to take out this slab for our wedding. Since the heavenly father is also not alive, there was no other option left for me. And as for its creation powers, you are absolutely correct."

"This rock is the oldest surviving source of creation magic since this universe was created. I have always been worried about its' lack of protection. I had tried to create a shield around it many times but every time it just soaked up the powers from my shield. Now, I realize what it had been missing. All along, you were the only missing link to this chain. You complete me in every way, xaio bai. So, would you also lock the powers from this piece of my origin, that you hold in your hands?" Donghua asked in a gruff, emotion-laden voice.

Feng jiu nodded imperceptibly, before closing her eyes and enveloping the slab in her aura just as the rock had done for her. She channeled her love for donghua through her aura, permeating the slab with it. As she felt a shield slide into place around the rock, she retrieved the aura back inside her.

Donghua watched silently as her red aura became infused with her love and turned a lighter blush shade of red. He could feel the warmth of her love that radiated from the slab when she retrieved her aura. A slight red shield covered the slab which quickly turned invisible, locking away the creation magic of the slab with it. Any immortal to come near it, will only feel the warmth of feng jiu's love that emanated from her shield with no clue to its unique powers. Gathering feng jiu in his arms, donghua dematerialized the slab and proceeded to worship her with all his heart.

The fifteen days passed by in a whirl of love and training, with a sprinkling of fun and games in between. Before the dawn of their wedding day, donghua and feng jiu appeared at the front steps of the fox den to the welcoming faces of bai zhi, zhe yan and mo yuan.

Walking inside the fox den, donghua pulled feng jiu against him. He pressed a soft kiss on her forehead before saying, "wait for me, xaio bai" though it was not a question, he posed it like one and obligingly feng jiu nodded her acceptance. From the side, she heard her grandfather speak at the same time, "your mother, grandmother, and aunt are waiting for you in your chambers."

As they turned around to walk in the direction of the study, feng jiu moved towards her chambers. From the open doors of her room, bai qian saw feng jiu and pulled her inside closing the doors behind them. After being dragged to the center of the room, she faced the three ladies in front of her and heard her aunt say, "xaio jiu, you reek of donghua."

Feng jiu tucked her chin against her chest, blushing at the implication while her mother added, "thankfully your father didn't come out to see you. If he had sniffed dijun on you, he would have gone mad with rage." To this her grandmother also, contributed, "well, she is safe for now. But we need to rid her of his smell or I'm afraid my son will be attending his own daughter's wedding at the tip of canghe." While these three shook their head in amusement, they also got to work on feng jiu. She was drenched with water, then dried off with a swish of their hands. After being stuffed into a new dress, she was soaked in peach blossom perfume from head to toe. Bai qian came a step closer, to take in a lungful before declaring her passable.

With the continuous motion around her, feng jiu grabbed her head to bring the world into focus again. She hadn't gotten full control over her senses before her grandmother popped another balloon. A profound excitement surrounded them as they cornered her. Beginning the inquisition, they peppered her with questions. "well, how was he?" "was he gentle?" "did you enjoy it?" "did it hurt too much?"

The questions were already too much but it was the last question her grandmother asked that took the cake on her personal embarrassment. She topped off the questions with, "did you bleed?"

She was blushing a very peculiar shade of red as she answered, "he was good to me, very gentle. No, I didn't bleed and it didn't hurt. That is all I will answer. Don't ask me anymore. Shouldn't you have something more productive to do than to force this royal inquisition on me?" Feng jiu huffed and crossed her arms in front of her, exasperated at them.

They just laughed at her expense. Bai qian chuckled as she spoke in an amused voice, "ok we won't ask any more of that but do tell me how did you become so strong and buff, I think. When I pulled you just now, there was a weird sturdiness in your body, how did that come about?"

Glowing at the first legitimate question, feng jiu glowed as she replied, "oh, he wasn't joking when he said, he will train me to control my powers. Dijun put me through rigorous and extensive training. It was so long and so tiring."

Bai qian wiggled her eyebrows at her teasing, "I bet it was..."

Feng jiu caught her meaning and acted affronted at her innuendo, exclaiming "gugu" with a scratchy voice.

While her aunt continued to tease her, she heard donghua's voice in her mind, "come to the study, xaio bai."

She interrupted bai qian mid statement as she stated, "dijun is calling for me. I'll be going now. If you all want, you can come with." Drawn by hus voice, she turned around and walked out of the room.

The study where the males were gathered was bai zhi's. Stepping inside the study, her eyes were immediately pinned to donghua. He was seated in front of a dark mahogany desk, with two piles of scrolls on top of it. She walked towards him and settled down on his opposite side. She was so laser-focused on donghua that she paid no attention to others present in the room. Her single-minded fixation on donghua was because of anticipation. She knew why he had called for her and she was waiting eagerly to get it done.

Donghua saw the apparent excitement on her face as she settled down opposite him. Wasting no time, she point-blank asked him for what she had been looking forward to. "where is it?", she questioned with clear joy. He pointed towards the two singular scrolls he had put in front of each of the pile.

She gave a single, rapt nod and proceeded to pick up the scrolls he had put aside for her from each of the piles. Opening one, she read through it, bouncing in excitement as she picked up the same scroll from the other pile to read. After, she was satisfied with the contents of those two scrolls, she merely asked, "where do I sign?"

Donghua had been respecting her response but bai zhi found it strange and thus, stepped forward to ask her, "don't you want to read through the whole contract. You should make sure everything is in your favor before signing a contract."

In response to his statement, feng jiu turned around to reply, "dijun, alredy told me that you, zhe yan and mo yuan were the ones responsible for making this contract. I trust all of you. You would never put me on a back foot or allow anything to hurt me. So why would I need to read through all this? And most of all, I trust dijun, if he has read it and says it's okay than it leaves no question of doubt. He has always protected me even from himself then how could he let such a small thing to harm me. I trust him wholeheartedly. There's nothing in these scrolls that I am concerned about. These are mostly related to the discharge of my queenly duties and I am sure you have already taken every little thing into consideration. I wanted to reassure myself of just one thing and I did. I trust you all with the rest," she gave a small shrug of his shoulders as she turned to sign at the place donghua had pointed out. Putting her signatures next to dongha gave her such a feeling of fulfillment that she couldn't have imagined this before.

After they were done signing the marriage contract, donghua walked over to her side and helping her up, he kissed the top of her head. He bent his head to her ear and whispered, "I'll see you as my bride, later. Wait for me, my love. Next time we meet will be for our wedding."
