The celestials standing inside the shield were quite enjoying the show in front of them. A few hours earlier, they were sure that they were going to die fighting this battle. Then a red-robed beauty had appeared and saved their lives. When they had heard a voice telling them to get behind the barrier, they hadn't cared to see who it was. They had run for their life.

It was then that the show had begun. They had felt divided at first, as to which show was more hilarious. On one hand, there were the demons trapped between two red walls. Every time a demon came close to the wall, the shield would swallow him and absorb all his powers, growing stronger. The funny part in this show was that at first, the demons had recklessly attacked the walls making them stronger and stronger. It took them a while to understand what was happening and by the time they understood, roughly a quarter of them had been left. The barriers at this point had absorbed so much power that to avoid getting swallowed by these vicious red walls, they had had to stand in a straight line. The celestials had laughed so hard when the demon army had formed a single line with one demon behind the other, standing extremely still. Tears had flown down their faces from laughing so hard.

On the other hand, was the demon chasing behind a beauty. It had taken a while before someone had recognized the red-robed beauty as the queen Bai Feng jiu of qingqiu, the youngest queen ever in all of the realms, the only red nine-tailed fox to ever exist, the niece of crown princess bai qian and the only granddaughter of the imperial bai family. When all her titles had been circulated among the celestials, most of them had felt they were all well-deserved, except for one. Someone had said that queen bai feng jiu was second in beauty only to her aunt bai qian. This hadn't sat well with many if the immortals present because from what they could see in front of her was a beauty unmatched. The way she moved highlighted her shiny long hair that glowed like a waterfall on a dark night. Then there was her delicate face that had made them lose their breaths with its beauty and then that red robe she wore had only accentuated her beauty by fitting so perfectly to her matured womanly curves. To them the young fox queen was second to none, she was a true unmatched beauty. Aside from the beautiful fox queen, the even more interesting part of this show was the way she was playing with the ancient demon. She kept insulting him in such creative ways that the celestials had gotten a stomach-ache from all that laughing. They were having a hard time catching their breaths, for every time they tried to catch their breath, she would shoot out a new funnier insult at him. Half an hour into the show, everyone had settled down, making themselves comfortable with cushions, tea, and snacks. They were enjoying the once in a lifetime opportunity they had gotten here.

For them the show had only grown more interesting with every moment. When hei an had disappeared, the celestials had become worried and were about to grab their swords to help the queen, but then she had laughed so hard at the demon that they immediately sat down. They thought the queen must have had something new up her sleeve. As they watched, she was totally unperturbed by his invisibility instead she had launched a new round of insults at the poor ancient demon. Again, they felt like this time they were going to die from laughing too much. Then she had lifted one of the curtains of her show. The surprise she had revealed was applause-worthy and applause they had given her. The ball of fire that had appeared with hei an had left them in awe of the young queen. She was conducting such a well-executed play, they thought. Then the stupid demon had again tried to undermine the queen. By now the celestials were so in love with Feng jiu that they didn't even entertain the possibility of anything going wrong. The only thing they were thinking right now was, "doesn't that stupid demon understand by now that he is no match for the fox queen. He is stupid indeed. He doesn't know that our lovely queen bai feng jiu was always five steps ahead of him. She will now pull out something new from her sleeve. Just you wait, hei an, just you wait." Lost in the theatricality of the events, they failed to notice that Feng jiu had been silent for long now.

When Feng jiu had retreated inside her spirit looking for answers, she had gotten lost inside her spirit. She had accidentally wandered down the path to her primordial spirit and she walked further inside her spirit. After walking for a long while, she had found no answers to her problem, but she could feel an end was coming to the long road she had been on. But as she walked further, at the end of that road, she discovered a small but powerful orb calling to her. As she neared the orb, she could feel the enormous power it contained. Studying the strength and power coming from the orb, she came to the realization that this was the core of her primordial spirit, the source of her power. She felt hesitant in touching the power, not knowing what it might lead to. But at this point, her need to save the realms was stronger than the uncertainty she felt. So, she reached out to the core and as she touched it, something unlocked inside of her. She felt her power increase by a thousand times. Absorbing the power, she opened her eyes.

She was then greeted by the scene she had left behind when she retreated into her spirit. The only difference was hei an was fruitlessly trying to wriggle free of his bonds. Shaking her head, she called out to him, "you never learn, do you? If you had just taken responsibility for your actions instead of trying to get out of it, I might have considered forgiving you. But you leave me no choice. Now, only your death can pay for all the damage you have done and havoc you have wreaked."

With that she channeled her newfound spirit fire through her aura into the ball of fire that surrounded him. This increased the strength of the fireball and finally, the spirit fire had started burning through his core.

Hei an let out one blood-curdling scream after another when the fire started burning his core. His screams were so loud that they were heard all over the nine realms. But the most important thing they drowned out was the scream of one white-haired god standing on the ground below them.

Donghua had just gotten there a few moments earlier and after taking stock of the situation, when he had called out to xaio bai, hei an had started screaming. Every time donghua called out to her, it was drowned out by the demon. When he had tried to get close to her, her aura had blocked him out. He could see and feel the huge amount of power she was using at that time. To effectively channel the flow of power through her body, her nine red tails had unfurled themselves. They were spread out around her, giving her a majestic and regal look. He could see that her nine tails were channeling the flow of power from her body to her aura and vice versa.

Seeing the use of such power, he had no choice but to stand aside and wait for her. It was for fear that if he distracted her right now, her power might lose focus and go haywire. Even though, he had no idea how his little fox had amassed such an extreme level of power in such a short time, he felt nothing but pride and love for her. She presented a view of such transcendental power and beauty that it will be forever etched on his heart and soul.

Slowly, the cries of hei an died as his core was now burned and his body melted away into nothing leaving behind no residue this time. With hei an now dead, dong hua watched as xaio bai finally retracted her aura back into her body, he sighed and called out to her, loudly. "xaio bai" She turned around on hearing his voice. But fate had plans of its own.

What everyone had failed to notice was that as hei an was dying, the sky had turned black slowly and clouds had rolled in. But now donghua saw everything as if it was in slow motion. The thundering sounds of the cloud had struck just as xaio bai was starting to land down on the ground.

He could not believe that this was happening right now. "she had just come out of a long-fought battle. It had consumed too much power from her. Her body cannot handle this right now. This was not the time for her ascension trial." He thought to himself. But before he could even blink, a strong bolt of lightning hit her in the back. Her eyes were fixed on his' when the bolt hit. He could see the pain of it in her eyes.

He screamed out her name and tried to get to her. He wanted to take the bolts for her but the heavens did not agree. Her body was pulled up towards the sky as a ring of fire appeared around her, protecting the trial from intrusion. So, when donghua had tried to get to her, the fire had blazed stronger.

Bolt after bolt kept hitting feng jiu as he watched and every time, he tried to reach her the fire blazed stronger around her. He kept calling out her name but to no avail.

Barely, his mind registered the presence of bai yi, bai zhi, bai qian, bai zhen and zhe yan. They were also desperately trying to reach to their precious xaio jiu but the ring of fire around her kept everyone out.

As he watched, donghua counted the bolts that didn't seem to stop coming. It was after the 900th bolt that the fire finally started to dissolve but he could see the trial was far from over. The moment an opening appeared in the ring; he was by her side in a second. Shielding her into his body, he took the next bolt for her. And the one after that. And the one after that. He took 100 bolts before the trial was complete. With feng jiu in his arms, he landed softly on the grounded and keeping her tucked in his chest, he passed out.
