Donghua didn't know how long it had been since he had sat down at the cave's mouth. For a long time now, he had been going through the scenes and memories of their lives together. It was like he was reliving them from a third person's perspective. Slowly after the last scene had faded instead of the next memory, bihai cangling came into view. Looking around, he realized, he was standing on top of the holy blue sea in bihai cangling. He was unsure of its purpose since they had no memories here. 

Faintly, then he heard a voice call his name from above. He looked up but the sky was clear. Still, for some reason he felt like there was something different about this sky.  Again, he heard his name but instead of finding the source this time, he simply called out a yes.

The voice again started, "you are here for feng jiu, aren't you? But why have you come now? What she is suffering through is the fate that you gave her. So why come now, donghua?" 

"if, what you speak of, is because of our ill-fate together then why not assign it to me? I will willingly take a retraction from the world, if you can assure me that xaio bai will live?" 

The voice laughed sardonically, "you stupid man, you still don't understand, do you? Fate was never ill towards you. In fact, fate is never ill towards anyone. Everyone is born with a life aim. Whatever is given to you at the start of this life is to help you in achieving this aim, your life's objective. But what you make of the things given to you is in your own hands. Fate does not make you do anything; it simply tries to guide you towards the fulfillment of your objective. It is a positive source that is influenced by your actions and not the other way around. So, this ill-fate that you like to speak of is of your own doing, donghua. It was you that made it this way. You were never supposed to remove your name from the rock. Your name was bound to someone who was not only your fated but she was also your better half in every way. The world was supposed to have not only the great master donghua dijun but also an equally great yet compassionate bai feng jiu." 

"This world demands balance, donghua. And that should have been clear to you from the start. The reasons of distractions and not needing someone that you gave for removing your name were the words of a man who never thought about that balance of power. Nothing ever exists without a counterpart to balance it. Did it never occur to you that the power that you possess should not be singular in this world that runs on an extremely delicate balance?" 

"donghua, what you removed from that stone was that delicate balance. The name beside yours was to be your female counterpart and not someone for you to be distracted with. She was to be both your power and peace all at once. That day what you removed from the stone was not just your name, donghua. What was removed by you was not a person's name but the bond of two true primordial spirits. A bond like that can never be undone but it can be put in chains and that was exactly what you did. You put both yourself and feng jiu in chains. As a result of your actions, the primordial spirit that was supposed to be born millennias back was stuck wandering waiting for you to call it back."

To say, donghua was shocked would be an understatement. Still, maintaining his composure, he asked back, "how did I call her back, then?"

The voice laughed again. "don't you remember, donghua, how frequently and ardently you were called to qingqui from the moment you removed your name till before the last great war? The curse you had placed on your fated's birth could have only been lifted when you accepted the nature she was to be born from. Feng jiu was always supposed to be born from the soil of qingqui, with the purity and power of those lands.  Every time you denied the invitation to qingqui, her primordial spirit was denied entry to this realm. And at last, it was only because of you that she was born." 

"Nobody had known that after the last great war when you heard that the pregnant wife of bai yi had fought in the battle beside you just to honor your missive which you had sent, unaware of her situation, for once in your long immortal life you had felt honest gratitude towards someone. And to repay her loyalty, you had gone there to help take care of her, personally without the knowledge of anyone. Even though you had hidden yourself well from others but nature waits for no sight. Donghua was overwhelmed with emotions but still keeping a clear head, he asked, "if that is the case then why is she dying right now?"

This time, the voice answered with solemnity, "she was born but not in the form she was meant for. Don't you understand that if she's your perfect match than she can't be just a simple immortal? Like you, she's a primordial spirit as old as time itself. A primordial spirit like yours never dies, it is eternal, it simply takes form and leaves it, whenever the world requires it. Similarly, her primordial spirit is also eternal. She's the source of your power and you are hers. She's the fire to your ice and the living to your rock. She's the holy spirit of all living beings just like you are the holy spirit of nature. One cannot survive without the other. Together, you have power eternal, separate you exist just for the sake of existence." "Have you never considered, why does your power diminish when you are near her and why since meeting her you feel you only have half your power? The reason for that is your spirits are two parts of a whole. Therefore, your spirits are meant to channel powers from each other. In true form, both of you can channel endless power from each other with zero effect on the other but when you chained yourselves, you restricted your access to her power and could no longer channel power from her spirit. It didn't have an effect on you before because you didn't know what was missing but the moment you met her, your primordial spirit recognized hers'. It wanted to link your power to hers' but could never do that. So, afterward, whenever you spent your power, you kept losing substantial parts of your cultivation. This was due to the fact that your body couldn't cultivate back the energy at the speed your spirit needed it."

"but the opposite goes for her. Living with you for the past 10 years in the mortal realm had allowed her to slowly tap into your spirit. That was the reason why she was able to find her true core in the battle with hei an. But her primordial spirit was still chained by your actions. The power she gained from the core and her ascension trial can't be contained within a chained spirit. Thus, her spirit is retreating within itself and she's slipping away." 

"This was not the will of the heavens, donghua but one that you brought upon yourself and her. It was you that started this and it is only you that can undo it. Remember my words, donghua, she must let go of her bonds, embrace what she is and be one with what she was meant for. Only then can she live."
