Out Of Town

Y/N POV

We pull ourselves up to safety and begin gathering what we can for the bike. We then make our way back to the city while trying to fight off the cold.

Yang: "We need to get out of this weather before the cold drops our Auras completely. How much further to the outpost?"

Ren: "We'll get there faster if we just walk."

Yang: "Is there something you need to say?"

Ren: "No. Wouldn't want to waste anymore time."

Yang: "What's your deal?"

Ren: "Don't worry about it."

Yang: "Well I'm sorry things aren't going smoothly enough for you."

Ren: "They're not going smoothly at all."

Yang: "I hate to break it to you, but that's part of being a Huntsman."

Ren: "Are you kidding? We don't know the thing about being Huntsmen. We clearly weren't ready."

Yang: "Were we not ready when we saved Haven, when we took down a Leviathan? We got the lamp to Atlas."

Ren: "And then we lost it. And after that, when we had to make real decisions, we got every single one wrong."

Yang: "I'm not going to pretend like we did everything perfectly, but if we'd done nothing, things would have been even worse than they are now."

Ren: "How could they possibly be worse? We are stuck out here while Salem has the lamp and Oscar. We've got no plan, no army."

Yang: "We've got the Maiden."

Ren: "And by keeping her from opening the vault for Ironwood, we're just trapping the whole city, for Salem. People are going to die, because of us."

Yang: "So what? We should just give Ironwood what he wants? Abandon Mantle? You think Atlas is still going to be able to float to safety now that she's here?"

Ren: "I don't know. But these aren't the kinds of decisions we should be making because we have no idea what we're doing. I'm just saying what nobody wants to. We are in way over our heads. Ruby is barely more than a kid, I'm just an orphan from the middle of nowhere-"

Jaune: "Ren-"

Ren: "And you cheated your way into Beacon."

Jaune: "That's enough. You two can continue to bicker and argue if you want. But we have a job to do."

Me and him begin walking away until we finally reach the outpost. I finish cranking up the heater when I see Yang sitting on the edge of the bed. I sit next to her which makes her look at me.

Y/N: "You okay?"

Yang: "I'm just tired is all."

Y/N: "We've been walking through heavy snow. That'll tire anyone."

Yang: "It's not the snow. We're fighting a nearly impossible war. And we just keep losing."

Y/N: "I know a thing or two about wars. True they can feel impossible to win. And yes you will lose, a lot sometimes. But if you just give up then everything you've lost to get this far with will be all in vain."

Yang: "How are you handling this so well?"

Y/N: "Because I'm used to the effects of war. Before I came here I was in a war that was going to decide the fate of the world, in a way, it was a lot like the one we're in right now. Me and my friends left behind people we loved to fight in the war; one of our missions claimed thousands upon thousands of lives. We were tasked with pushing back our enemies."

Yang: "What happened?"

Y/N: "We fought with everything we had. Lots of men lost their lives but we won. Our enemy surrendered and we won the battle. The moral of the story is that you mustn't give up. If we had given up that day then I fear we would've never advanced in the war. Those men who gave their lives had people counting on them to keep them safe. War isn't easy, but if you just trust in your teammates then there's no force that can stop you."

Yang smiles and pecks my cheek.

Yang: "I love you."

I smile, wrap my arm around her and kiss the top of her head.

Y/N: "I love you too."

We later take a nap only to awaken to the ground rumbling. We run out of the outpost and head to where that earthquake came from. We reach it and find a gorge. We look down and see a river full of Grimm blood. We follow the current and see the river is heading straight for the city.
