Grimm Studies And Combat

Y/N POV

The morning after initiation I get out of bed and head to my first ever class ahead of my teammates.

Port: "Monsters...demons...prowlers of the night. Yes, the creatures of grimm have many names. But I merely refer to them as prey, hah hah. And you shall too, upon graduating from this prestigious academy. Now as I was saying Vale as well as the other three kingdoms are safe havens in a otherwise treacherous world. Our planet is absolutely teeming with creatures that would love nothing more than to tear you to pieces. And that's where we come in, huntsmen and huntresses."

He winks at Yang which makes her scoff.

Port: "Individuals who have sworn to protect those who cannot protect themselves. From what you ask? Why the very world. That is what you are training to become, but first a story of a young handsome man me. When I was a boy,"

He goes on about a story while I look over at Ruby to see her going from drawing a picture of Port to sleeping to picking her nose openly.

Port: "The moral of this story is a true huntsman must be honorable. A true huntsman must be dependable. A true huntsman must be strategic, well educated and wise. So who among you believes themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?"

Weiss: "I do sir."

Port: "Well then, let's find out." *motions to cage* "Step forward and face your opponent."

Weiss goes away and later comes back in her signature skirt. Port cuts open the cage and a strange boar like creature comes running out. Weiss dodges it and cuts the boar's side.

Port: "Weren't expecting that were you?"

Ruby: "You got this Weiss!"

Weiss and the boar rush at each other and upon colliding Weiss gets her rapier stuck between its tusks.

Port: "Interesting approach, I love it!"

Ruby: "Show it who's boss!"

Weiss glares at Ruby which lets the boar yank her rapier away, throw it to the side and knock her back.

Port: "Now what shall you do without your weapon?"

The boar charges at Weiss but she rolls to the side and rearms herself.

Ruby: "Go for the belly! It doesn't have any armor-"

Weiss: "Stop telling me what to do!"

The boar jumps and tucks itself into a tight ball. It then rolls at high speeds at Weiss. She however makes a weird circle that the boar crashes into. It gets knocked onto its back while Weiss flips onto another circle above her. She launches herself and stabs the boar into its belly.

Port: "Bravo! Bravo! That was a spectacular fight, it seems you are a true Huntress in training. That will be all for today, go over the reading I have assigned you and stay safe. Dismissed."

Weiss stomps out of the room while I glare at her. Later that night I awaken to see the door to our dorm open. Weiss walks to Ruby and they begin talking. Ruby smiles and Weiss walks away. I smile at their talk then drift back off to sleep. A few weeks later I find myself sitting in combat class watching Jaune and Cardin fighting.

Jaune runs at Cardin and swings downwards. Cardin turns to the side and swats Jaune away with his mace. Jaune lands on his shoulder but gets back up and runs at Cardin. Jaune once more swings downwards but Cardin blocks it by holding his mace sideways. Cardin then stands up and pushes Jaune to his knee.

Cardin: "This is the part where you lose."

Jaune: "Not-"

Cardin knees Jaune's stomach bringing him to the ground. Cardin raises his mace ready to bring it down on Jaune but Glynda stops him.

Glynda: "That's enough. Students as you can see, Mr. Arc's aura has now dropped into the red. In a tournament style duel this would indicate that Jaune is no longer fit for battle and that the official may call the match." *looks at Jaune* "Mr. Arc, it's been weeks now. Please try to refer to your scroll during combat. Gauging your aura will help you decide when it is best to attack or when it is better to move to a more defensive strategy. We wouldn't want you to be gobbled up by a Beowolf now would we?"

Cardin: "Speak for yourself."

He struts out of the arena while I glare at him. Some time later I find myself in a man named Oobleck's history class.
