Mabel Elvina Martin was born at Goldsmith Road in Acton, London, England. She was baptized on October 16th, 1892 in St Dunstan's Church. She was the daughter of London-born Alfred Thomas Martin (1863 - 1899), a banker's clerk, and Alice Emily (or Eveline, or Evelyn?) Bulley (1867 - 1950) of Maldon, Essex. Her parents had been married in Acton on October 12th, 1887 with both their addresses being stated as Grove Road, Acton. She had an elder sister, Eva Marquette, and a younger sister, Dorothy Millicent, and a half-brother, Douglas (born 1907).

In 1901 Mabel is listed with her widowed mother and sisters, at the home of her uncle Frederick Bulley, Cumberland Road, Acton. On the 1911 census Mabel is shown working and living at the Tavistock Hotel, Convent Garden, West London as a bookkeeper. 

Aboard Titanic/April 14th-15th, 1912:
When she signed onto the RMS Titanic on April 6th, 1912 Mabel gave her address as Apsley Villas, Horn Lane, Acton, London, her mother's address. The Titanic was her first working sea voyage and she was one of 2 female cashiers in Gatti's Titanic restaurant, the other being Ruth Bowker. Her discharge book describes her as standing at 5'4 and with brown hair and eyes and a dark complexion.

Mabel was rescued in lifeboat 6 alongside Ruth and it's been said that she was among the women who that boat who helped row. She wasn't required to give evidence to either the US or British Inquiry into the disaster.

After The Sinking/Later Life/Death:
Mabel was married in 1914 to Francesco Rafaelle Odone Albertella who was born on September 1st, 1891 in Westerminster, the son of Italian immigrants Angelo Abertella and Geneviq Raffaeli. His family were connected in the restaurant business and he and Mabel went on to run their own restaurant (the Rendez-vous?) by the time of the 1939 British register their address was Richmond Road, Kingston, Surrey and where Mabel would live for the rest of her life. Mabel and Francesco had 1 child, a daughter Joan, who was born in Brighton in 1921. 

Mabel was involved with a motorcycling accident and died in Kingston Hospital on April 2nd, 1960 at the age of 68. She was buried on April 8th, 1960 in St Andrew's Church, Ham, Surrey. She left an estate valued at £274, 17s, 11d to Francesco, who himself passed away on June 11th, 1974. Joan was married in 1952 to George C. Lewis and lived for many years in Woking, Surrey; retaining several items belonging to her mother connected to Titanic; including her discharge book. These items were placed up for auction in 2017.
