George Richard Evans

October 2nd, 1884 - April 15th, 1912

He is a Libra.

George Richard Evans was born Liverpool, Lancashire, England to George Evans (1852 - 1917), a police officer and later a ship stevedore, and Sarah Hughes (1853 - 1926), both of whom hailed from Liverpool and who had married on Christmas Day in 1879. George only had one sibling, elder brother Thomas William (1882 - 1946). George first appears on the 1881 census when he and his family were living at Pluto Street, Kirkdale, Lancashire. The family would appear on the 1901 census living at Barnett Avenue, Kirkdale but George would be absent, presumably already at sea. George's family were recorded on the 1911 census as living at Garnett Avenue, Kirkdale but he was unlisted and was perhaps at sea at the time.

Aboard Titanic/April 14th-15th, 1912:

George Evans died in the disaster and his body, if recovered, was never identified. Rose had been pregnant at the time of the sinking and later gave birth to a daughter, Audrey Isabel, who arrived on Christmas Eve (December 24th, 1912). Rose was a widow for 4 years before she remarried in 1916 to Arthur Edward Leahy (born 1890), a seaman's union official, in Southampton. Arthur died in 1923 and Rose never remarried. She remained in Southampton where she also began a career at sea, rising to the rank of chief stewardess; the vessels she worked aboard included Orbita, Berengaria, and Carinthia. Her last address was Foundry Lane, Southampton (Audrey's address) where she died on July 5th, 1968 at the age of 78.

Audrey was married in Southampton in 1934 to shipyard fitter Herbert Thomas Soar (1910 - 1987), a Southampton-native, and they had a son named Anthony in 1936. Their marriage later dissolved with both remarrying, Audrey in 1957 to Henry S. Adams. Audrey died in Shirley on April 25th, 1990 at the age of 77.
