Chapter 5

Someone's presence in her room woke Skurn the next morning and she opened her eyes to stare at the wall. No one walked towards her, in fact, nothing made a sound as she stayed completely still except for her hand reaching for a knife under her pillow. Once it was in her hand she flipped over and tossed it towards the direction of the presence, missing as they stepped aside like they'd expected it... Well by that time it wasn't a surprise. Skurn squinted in the dark and made out Kylo's form as he turned from the knife embedded in the wall back to her.

"It's time for training, get up." He ordered.

She scowled back at him. "Did you have to come into my room while I was asleep? You could've knocked you know!"

"With all your muttering I was afraid you wouldn't hear it." He growled back, matching her temper.

Had she been talking in her sleep? Skurn paled slightly, what had he heard? Did he know who was haunting her dreams? Just wait until she fell asleep again... Anakin would pay for coming back. Could you kill a ghost? Probably not... That was the irritating part, well that and the disrupted session with Snoke. She had been trying to learn how to catch lightning in her hand to throw it back at the attacker.

"Whatever." Her response was weak as she got up. "I'll be out in a moment, just let me get ready."

Kylo didn't respond as he turned and left, though he did turn on the light as he walked by the switch. Blinding her temporarily much to her annoyance, though she could sense his humor as he waited outside. Skurn quickly got ready before joining Kylo in the tunnel and walking towards the training room, which her apprentice would hopefully be able to find this time when it was time for his training.

"How was your apprentice's first training session? I hope you weren't too soft on him." Kylo spoke up, teasing her slightly.

Skurn felt a chill run through her spine as she remembered the pure hatred that had rolled off Lucifi... it had been unnatural. "He is much stronger when his anger takes hold of him. But he lacks control over it, if he wishes to become stronger he'll have to learn to use his rage and his mind at the same time."

"Sounds familiar. " Kylo sounded amused at the thought. "What about his Force abilities?"

"He's my apprentice not yours stop asking so many questions." She growled, not wanting to admit her apprentice didn't seem to have any yet. "But I will work with him on those today, just to see where he is."

"You should've started with that." He retorted. "But you wouldn't know that considering you're short time in training."

Skurn was about to make a scathing retort when she realized he wanted her to get riled up over his insults. She smirked and glanced at him, two could play this game. "Perhaps Snoke thinks higher of me than you and can see how much stronger I am."

"Then I would not be Master of Ren." Kylo didn't fall for her taunt.

She prodded harder at his nerves. "That's an empty title meant to satisfy you while Snoke and I really run the show behind your back. I'm just too good at playing weak to make you have a hint of doubt that I'm lying."

Still he didn't fall for it, not that she expected him to, but it was a bit disappointing to sense his irritation staying at the same level. They continued making taunts back and forth though until they reached the out door training area, which was located half way up the mountain. Kylo's hint of a smile disappeared as he activated his lightsaber and stood on the opposite side of the muddy field, the rain currently still pouring down and soaking both of them in seconds. Skurn hated fighting in the rain, it was always a challenge to keep her stupid cloak out of the way, though she was sure that was why Kylo had picked this training area today instead of their normal indoor one. But she wouldn't let Kylo see her discomfort and activated her own dark saber, ready for their fight.

His attacks were fast and precise as he started the battle. Skurn went on the defensive and disconnected her double bladed dark saber so she held a blade in each hand. Thinking back to when she first started she could see just how easily he'd gone on her. Their blades met in the air, crackling with energy as both of them fought to hold the other's weapon off, she took this chance to use her extra blade to swipe at his legs before knocking his lightsaber aside with the hilt. Kylo's blade faded instantly but it seemed he had learned from their past sessions because Skurn felt herself go flying onto the ground as he held up a hand.

"Is that all you've got? After all my training?" Kylo sneered and Skurn felt an invisible grip on her throat. "Maybe Snoke will see just how little you know once I toss you off this ledge?"

Skurn would've laughed if she had the air. He didn't know what she could do now... She raised her own hands and felt heat rush through them as lightning struck her former mentor in the chest. The attack broke Kylo's concentration of the Force choke, which she expected, but what she hadn't expected was for him to actually fall onto the ground. She hadn't put that much power into the attack, especially since they were in the rain, had she miscalculated? Without a second's hesitation she ran over to him, relieved to see his chest rising and falling despite the smoke coming off of it, though she could sense the shock he felt.

"Kylo?" Skurn questioned and nudged him with her boot.

His reaction was faster than she expected as he sat up and lunged at her, bringing her back to the ground as he held her down. She struggled against his grip, managing to slip free a bit thanks to the rain and mud, before feeling him get a more secured grip on her wrists and legs. Giving up fighting against him and wasting her energy, she instead glared at him, his dark eyes full of frustration and confusion.

"Where did you learn to do that?" Kylo growled, his grip tightening on her wrists.

All this for an answer, well it was Kylo so she wasn't as surprised as she once would have been. "Snoke taught me."

"When."

"A few weeks after I fell." She shifted uncomfortably in his grip. "I told you he trained me in my sleep."

He made a snarling sound that vibrated in his chest before releasing her and summoning her dark sabers to his hand. Fear sparked in her for a moment as she got back to her feet but disappeared as he handed her weapon over to her. "It was weak, keep practicing."

He was bothered by something. She put her dark saber back on her belt and against better judgment followed him inside. "Didn't he teach you to do that?"

Kylo stopped walking but didn't turn to face her. "No."

She watched him walk off again, probably to speak with Snoke, before turning down a different path to go back to her room so she could change. Questions ran through her mind as she walked, why wouldn't Snoke teach his own apprentice to use lightning? Surely Kylo was more fit for that power than her; he had more experience... not to mention more trust built up. She was just a bounty hunter at heart, no matter what tricks she learned.

"Then why don't you just leave, hmm?" Skurn froze in place as a Zabrak stepped out of the shadows ahead of her while a second one blocked her exit. "You might know our ways, and the light saber might have chosen you, but that doesn't make you one of us."

"And now that the Master of Ren is distracted, we can show him and the Supreme Leader that you are nothing special." The second one growled.

Anger surged through her; they had gone into her head! Why had she allowed herself to get so distracted? Members had tried to finish her off before but at least then she had been on her guard. Now she was alone, trapped, and slowed by her water and mud logged cloak. She glared at the two of them as they closed in, she could take them both on, especially if they didn't want to damage her weapon, which was made by the same parts as their precious Darth Vader's had been. She kept her back to the wall as she faced them, her dark saber activated and humming faintly as they approached her with their own lightsabers drawn.

Their weapons were blurs as they fought, the three of them matching blow for blow. Skurn was slowly failing to keep up though as she fought to keep both of them in her sight at once. Pain flooded through her as the first attacker threw her into the wall with the Force while the second, a female she noted, brought her lightsaber down towards her chest. She shoved the female Zabrak back with the Force before shooting lightning at the male, who blocked it with his lightsaber as he advanced. Ending her attack as soon as she realized how useless it was, Skurn pulled a knife out of her boot and threw it at the Zabrak before jumping to her feet and using her dark saber to slice through his leg while he was distracted.

"Brother!" The female shouted and Skurn turned to face her just too late as a red blur grazed her neck. "You'll pay for that cheap trick."

Skurn clenched her teeth from the pain as she staggered back. "Want to see another cheap trick?"

She slid out her second, and last, knife before using the Force to hold the Zabrak still as she shoved the blade into her heart. Her second attacker gave a pained gurgled as their lightsaber fell to the ground and their body went limp. Skurn pulled the knife out and collected her first one before taking on the task of dragging the bodies to the nearest tunnel that would take her to the outside and shoving them off the edge. They didn't deserve to have any type of funeral, or to even be noticed they were gone.

At least she managed to get back to her room without any more trouble. Skurn turned her head to the side and examined the slightly bleeding flesh on her neck, the graze had done more damage than she'd first thought, she couldn't even feel that area of her neck. At least now both sides of her neck matched though, the sick thought of it crossed her mind. No matter where she was, no one wanted her there in the end... not really. But that didn't bother her as much as it had when she was a child, it was after all a childish concern, and once this war was over she'd be on her way once more. But would she be? She was a trained Force user, didn't that change things?

"I don't have time for this." She shook the thought from her head before placing her helmet on and walking out to meet Lucifi in the training room.
