Chapter 2

Kylo found Zeh walking out of the training room while clipping her lightsaber back to her belt. She didn't notice him as he silently walked up behind her, not until it was too late and he had her pinned roughly to the wall. He glared at her before glancing back at the training room, he couldn't sense that crippled apprentice nearby, Lucifi must not be training yet.

"I think you have some questions to answer." He growled softly as she shrugged him off, which she only did because he allowed it. "Like why Snoke thinks you are ready to be a full member let alone have an apprentice."

"I don't know." Her annoyed expression told him she wasn't lying. "I don't want to mentor him, he's unfit and around the same age as us! He shouldn't be trained at all!"

"Snoke has his reasons." Kylo responded in defense of his master.

"And what are they?"

Her challenge sent a spark of frustration though him as he walked at her side down the dark tunnel. To be honest, he wasn't sure either. "They will be revealed with time."

Skurn stared at him as she walked down a tunnel that led to the mountaintop. "It better be. You're lucky you don't have to train him."

"You were no better starting out." He responded simply.

She rounded on him. "I could at least walk and fight! This guy was out of breath after a few minutes of walking!"

"And you were making your own mental handicap... but look at what you've become now." Kylo subconsciously stepped closer before blinking and walking past her, making sure to keep his voice cold. "Besides, your trial is meant to challenge you."

"I know that! But I'm not ready for an apprentice, I'd rather take the traditional trial." She hissed while following him.

Well at least she knew she wasn't ready. Kylo glanced over at his fiery companion. "You would rather die in combat against a Knight of Ren with full training than see your apprentice get killed instead?"

"I would not die." Skurn argued.

"You would not win." He stated. "I've told you the traditions. A champion is picked by Snoke to fight in the apprentice's trial, only one will live. Do you think you would be able to win?"

She stayed silent as he continued to burn her with his gaze; he had trapped her between two choices and one obvious answer. She would agree it was better to let that weak apprentice of hers die. However, when her gaze met his it was still burning with that spirit of hers. Kylo mentally sighed, he had rubbed off on her during their training; that much was clear, she just wasn't going to back down.

"I want to take the real trial, not this back way out. The other Sith here don't approve of me, if I can pass they will have to." She protested.

"They are not Sith, they are Knights of Ren." Kylo couldn't remember how many times he had to repeat this to her.

"Both use the Dark side of the Force, I see no difference." Night air brushed against his face as she spoke and he looked up at the stars overhead, the sky was clear for once... though clouds in the distance suggested it wouldn't be fore long.

He looked back over to see his apprentice near the edge of the overhang, sitting with her legs off the edge. "One of these days you're going to fall."

"I already fell once." She responded, sounding calmer than before. "I'll heal."

Kylo walked over and took a spot beside her; the ground below was so tiny, almost like one big shadow merged together. "Not from this height. One can only fall so far before they reach a spot they can't recover from."

An image of his dying brother flashed across his vision... it was his fault his parents were grieving. Snoke's words came back to him quickly though, he had to kill them too if he was ever going to escape the Light's pull forever. The silence stretched on between them as he waited for a sarcastic remark from her, but none came and he could sense her emotions calming as she took in the night landscape. It was peaceful here, though he still enjoyed physically letting out his anger to this, but the view was nice.

He tensed as Skurn leaned against his shoulder before seeing her eyes were closed as she began to fall asleep. With a sigh, Kylo moved her away from the edge after he had enough of the night air. He had plans to make tomorrow that couldn't be thought through while half asleep. Skurn shifted as he sat her down just inside the tunnel before holding him back, her eyes blinking open from all the movement.

"Kylo...?" Her voice was almost a whisper, like she didn't expect him to really be there.

"Yes?" He pulled his arm free from her grip and stood up.

"You'll still teach me until I really am fully trained right?" Her eyes were closing again.

Well of course he would, she was his apprentice... maybe not officially anymore... but even he was still learning. Everyone here was, Force, Snoke probably still found new tricks to learn from time to time. "Of course. We can train together whenever we both find the time."

With that he left her there to sleep or find her own way back to her room. He wouldn't voice this to her, though she did already seem to know, Snoke had made a mistake in passing her so soon. Unless... no, his master wouldn't be pushing her to her death would he? That couldn't be it. Then what was the point of keeping her alive all those times? No, his master needed someone to blame if and when Lucifi was killed. That weakling sent unease through Kylo for some reason, as though something about the man was off. For the life of him though he couldn't figure out what it was.

"I have more important things to do." He muttered to himself before ducking into a tunnel shortcut to his room, a place most didn't know about that was off and away from the other living quarters. He hated to be bothered unless it was important.
