9) What?!

Really sorry this took forever, I had MAJOR block :0/

hopefully its over.

The hallway felt different.

It felt like someone, like me, has went down it. But it wasn’t me! I pressed my hand against my temple, I was starting to get headache even from the ride here from the taxi driver with the blaring Indian music. I chewed on my lip as I slowly walked down the aged hallway; I kept getting vibes of electricity or just something dark and dangerous. I was even getting goose bumps. I never got goose bumps, I mean, last time I ever did it was because I heard Dr. Nolind yell for me when I ate his Cornish hen.

The closer I got to the door, the worse the feeling hit my chest. Grabbing the doorknob and slowly twisting it, pushing in. The stench of death hit me, setting me on alarm. Death was literally in my house but where? Why? I let go of the door, opening slowly to figure in a black trench coat standing with a solid posture; their back facing me. My eyes flickered down the sound of leather tightening, the hairs on the back of my standing from the tingling sensation of electricity in the air. My eyes fell to the smell of blood, seeing the white lab coat being dyed by it. A tiny breath got caught in my throat as my body stiffened yet I could feel my heart sink from the thought of my so called protector was gone for good. My eyes flew back up on the figure, seeing the black hood turn to me.

I was in the presence of the one…the one who chased me out of my home.

My eyes flew open from a warm touch, gasping and jolting away. Seeing Aiden jerked his hand away from me, worry sunk deeper in his eyes as he gulped. Both of us panting, Aiden made the first move. Slowly coming back towards me, sitting by my legs and touched my hand.

“You okay?”

I gulped more air down, looking around the small room. My head fell back on the bed, staring at the ceiling, “I…yes.” My eye lids slowly fell.

“Well, I feel a little better your awake now.”

My eyes slowly opened back on him, seeing him fiddle with something in his hands. “How long have I been out?”

He raised a lazy brow, giving off some kind of blunt look. “Three days.” He blinked, seeing his teal blue eyes were brighter than usual. Within a minute, he sadly looked back to his lap and cleared his throat. “I’m not staying long, someone’s coming to talk to you.” He shuddered, glancing toward the door then back at me.

“Where am I?”

He blinked, feeling like he was studying me. “Gallion City.”

I turned my head to the side, narrowing my eyes. “Never heard of it.” I started to prop myself up but winced from the pain, gasping from it loudly. Out the corner of my eye, Aiden flinched near me I flashed him a look. “I’m fine.”

Something flashed in Aiden’s eyes as he sank back into his calm posture, chewing on his lip, he closed his eyes and turned his head away. “You’re lucky…”

“How am I?” I groaned, ignoring the pain that was washing over me now.

“That Ka—Sharkbait’s with us, I don’t want you two fighting anymore.” He turned back to me now with a stern look.

I shot him a blunt look. “No offense but he’s bit of a smartass that pisses me off.”

“Doesn’t matter.” He growled faint, “He’s the one that practically saved you.” My brows slowly fell down, opening my mouth. A knock landed on the door, both of us looking. Aiden suddenly got up and tugged his hood up, disappearing within it.

“It’s best for me to leave now.” He spoke flatly, opening the door and not saying another word.

Passing him was a girl, she was all smiling and giggly.

AIDEN

I shut the door, hearing them quickly exchange words as I stormed down the hallway. Hearing laughter and yelling up and down the halls, soon enough, screaming of horror soon joined in. Hearing it from Valerie’s room, I could already picture the bloodshed starting in there.

What do you know of mixbloods, my son?

They’re wild animals and don’t serve anyone.

I reopened my eyes, seeing a crowd of people coming down drunk and laughing. Deep down, I knew father was right about mixbloods. They were creatures of the darkness, something that shouldn’t be messed with. But then again, I questioned him with Aren’t we too? Foolish father. Deeper down passed that, I felt my guts scream I was right in the end. I had a mixblood in my hand and she was mine.

…She was mine.

I let the door swing hard and hit the wall loudly, seeing Aiden and the other guys jump except Sharkbait. All of them surrounded the round table, seeing Sharkbait slid three golden coins toward the table and smirked. Tilting his head up, he gave a prideful smirk. “Three eights.”

I came more into the room, shutting the door.

“Four fours.” I heard guy.

“Four fives.”

I turned around when I heard a chuckle, seeing Sharkbait turn to me. “How’s the princess?” I nodded, slowly walking over to him.

“She’s fine…She’s getting her food when I left.” I slipped my hands into my pockets. He nodded, turning back to the table and slid a chess king piece to the center of the table and said Ten fives. “What are you playing?”

“It’s an ancient game, you wouldn’t know about it.” He grinned at me, “So how’d she take her wake?”

“She must of been having a nightmare, she was tossing and turning when I came in.” I gulped. “She kept saying Dr. Nolind.” I studied Sharkbait as his body stiffened a little, slowly, he peeked over his shoulder at me and stared at me. A few seconds passed, his eyes flicked on the door and stared then as he withdrew his hands from the chess piece. “Such a good man. Such a terrible death.” He muttered under his breath, My brows tugged down.

“You knew the human.”

He snorted, waiting till the rest of the player said random numbers to my ears. Slapping a card down of a king, “My royal friend does not ask but speaks like he knows.” He flicked his cold eyes on me then, leaning back and crossing his arms. “Eleven threes.”

“Damn it!” A guy across from them shouted, standing up and cursing as he stormed out. Slamming the door behind him, I once more met Sharkbait’s calm smile. He turned his head away and picked up his king piece and examined.

“It’s best to explain it when her mind’s strong enough for it. That’s when you’ll learn.”

“You speak as if it’ll all be okay when this is all over.”

He snorted, closing his eyes for a couple of minutes. “Aiden…nothing will ever be alright in the end…by fate. You have to make it alright.” He flashed me a devilish. “Don’t worry, I won’t get in the way.”

I growled, taking a step towards him.

Sharkbait quickly spoke. “There’s a ferry heading to Hawaii. Tonight.”

My heart skipped a beat, stopping in my steps. A pair or nosey eyes landed one me along with Shark’s and Alex’s, balling my hands tighter into fist. I forced my exhale to be smooth, “How do you know?”

“Because.” He picked up a card, flashing me a look. “I arranged it with a little help. At nine thirty, Alex, Valerie, and you and be on that Ferry and you will be safely delivered to your new home.” He sighed.

“Does anyone know about this?” I flicked my eyes on the remaining guys in the room, flinching and stared with horror. Sharkbait cracked his neck and huffed, his eyes flying on them too.

“No.”

Valerie

I leaned against a wall, picking my teeth with a toothpick as Aiden paced back and forth in front of me. He kept tossing dirty looks toward the direction of the people heading toward the ferry, shoving his hands in his pockets and gnawed on his lip. Faint panting hit my ears, getting louder along with running. Alex slid around the corner, bumping right into his brother. Alex stumbling back as Aiden growled at him to back off more.

“So?”

“He’s nowhere to be seen.”

I rubbed my temple and groaned, getting a damn headache from the mixed scents in this city. I never even got to get a good look at it, merely being a room then traveled in a taxi down steep brick roads to this fish stunk up docks.

“What the hell is he doing now?” Aiden growled, turning back to the ferry. “Fuck it, let’s go.” Alex and I exchanged looks of worry but when we looked to Aiden, he was already gone. Storming toward the ferry, jolting and jogging after him. Alex said my name, glancing over my shoulder. I had to double look to see what he was doing, knelting down and tying his shoe. I groaned, stopping and waiting for him. Getting bumped in the shoulder, growling at who ever. Slowly walking back over Alex, I heard Aiden shout for us, seeing he was already on and waving for us to hurry. Still tying his shoe, I stared behind him to see the city seemed stacked like stairs. Remarkably built into the side of a mountain, looking higher and higher up.

“Valerie!”

I whirled around to Aiden, seeing him pointing back behind me. Spinning back around to see a couple of guys in all black running towards us. Raiders. I growled, grabbing Alex by his collar and jerking him to his feet. Alex yipping as he kept stumbling over his feet as I drug him to the ferry, hearing Aiden to hurry the hell up now. Once more I got the tension of static in the air, shoving Alex in front of me and turning around. Getting a fist thrown at me, ducking off to the right and threw an elbow left to the guy’s neck. Sending him off to the left, another one came at me. Moving out of his electrical swipes, trying to see his face but couldn’t from his face. I panted through my flared nostrils and moved off to the right, spinning and kicking his foot up from him. Kicking him in his base knee, a howl of pain came from him as he fell. A crackle came to my right ear, seeing another throw a fist, leaning back just before it. Alex yelled for me, seeing the ferry was no parting from the docks.

“Move.”

A deep voice reached my eyes, suddenly getting shoved hard to the side. Stumbling back, grabbing onto something that moved. Seeing it was another raider, grunting and shoving him over the dock’s railing. I heard people scream, turning back to see the extraordinary. Kade and the raider were sharing electrical currents to the point it was vibing off of them, the raider threw his other fist at Kade. Kade quickly catching it and clamping his eyes shut and bared his fangs, he yelled and kicked the guy in the gut. The guy fell to the ground, Kade still grabbing onto one of the guy’s fist, growling as he came over and jerked his hood down.

People including me gasped, seeing it was a regular looking guy but it just shocked me. Was it talent or science?

“I can stand static.” Kade snarled, planting his foot on the guy’s shoulder. “It makes my hair stand up.” He grabbed a hand full of the guy’s dark brown hair, seeing his body started to tremble violently. Yelling out and suddenly foaming at the mouth, I covered my mouth and took a step back. Kade released the guy once no sign of life was in his body, watching him fall over. Through his shirt, his shoulder blade arched through as he panted. I heard Aiden yell now, snapping up. Seeing the Ferry was quite a distance between us, gasping and passing Kade to the rope railing, leaning against it. My heart lurched with something, hurting a little. Perhaps I was growing on them or maybe it was the promise I made to them. Someone grasped my wrist, jolting from the statically feeling. Whirling around to see it was Kade, he flinched back; now noticing I had my fist pulled back.

“Come on, I can get you on the ferry.”

“How?” I blurted out, gesturing towards them. “They’re moving away from us on water.”

“Come on!” He tugged me into jogging, the crowd that grew from the scene quickly moved away from us. Running back toward the city in the side of the mountain, a whistle suddenly hit my ears. Kade abruptly stopped, slamming into his back. Both of us grunt, shaking my head and meeting Kade’s irritated look. He glanced back at the whistle getting louder, seeing men in blue and black running toward us. Kade growled and jerked me down an alley, ripping air from me before I could even inhale.

“Where are we going?”

“Just trust me, okay?” He shot a look over his shoulder.

I glanced back at the alley, seeing the men in blue and black coming now. Kade said something but I didn’t understand him, turning around and opening my mouth. My jaw hit the ground, seeing a bright blue ocean in front of us. It was no longer a dark grungy alley, warm sand and the ocean elegantly moving toward us. I slowed down when Kade did, hearing him growling deep and cursing under his breath. My hand dropped from his, turning around but so we were the only ones on tis paradise beach. “What the hell did you?” I turned back to him grabbing his head with frustration.

“Too far.” He groaned, grabbing my hand and pulling me toward the water.

“What’s going on?!” I jerked my hand free, making him turn back to me.

“You’re lucky I’m even bringing you to them so don’t question me.” He tossed a dirty look.

“Why can’t I? I was just in a city now I’m on a damn beach!” I shouted, a big gust of wind came. Stirring sand up, feeling the wind increase. Raising my arms and closing my eyes, the heat seemed to increase tenfold. Stumbling a little when the air pressure suddenly dropped, getting my breath back. Slowly opening my eyes, seeing now we were a flat desert of white cracked earth.

“What the hell, Kade!” I yelled but then I realized he wasn’t in front of me, whirling around and seeing him now. He stood still, staring at the only thing amongst us. I slowly walked over to his side, staring at the tower. It was a tall stone cylinder standing in the middle of the desert, it felt like it was no purpose but as much dead it look it felt very much alive. I slowly looked away to Kade, seeing worry was stuck in his glassy eyes. “…Kade.”

He gulped, staring still at the towering cylinder. I raised my hand toward his arm but he exhaled shakily, turning his head away. He spoke faint under his breath “Wrong again.”, grabbing my hand and pulling me into walking. I stumbled a little a fist, fast walking over on his left side to match him.

I whispered. “What is this place? What are you doing?”

He turned to me with a worried look, light a flash light in my face, it suddenly got bright. Clamping my eyes shut and turning my head away, the stench of something hit my nose. Making me grimace and my stomach twist, the humidity slapped me into the face. Opening my eyes once more to a different environment, standing in lush green jungle but this one seemed familiar.

“Leave her, Tonya!” A masculine voice echoed yet sounded near.

“Get down.” Kade growled beside me, seeing him crouching. Grabbing my wrist and pulling me down, sitting on my knees and peeking through the bush we hid behind. Just in time too, seeing a woman carrying something as a man followed behind her.

“Leave her, they’ll find her soon enough.” The man scowled, grabbing the woman by her shoulder and making her turn around.

“She’s our daughter!” the woman hiccupped, seeing now she was sobbing.

I gasped, leaning more toward the bush. Kade grabbed my arm, flinching and turning back to him. “You can’t mess with the past.” He whispered, now hearing the couple amongst them arguing. I shook my head, feeling something get caught in my throat.

“They’re my parents. My parents gave me a way.” I croaked.

He gulped, stiffly nodding and turning back to a scream. Seeing the bundle was laying on the ground and bushes rustling, my parents nowhere in sight. I inhaled a breath, covering my mouth as I heard more bushed rustling. Off to our right, seeing Dr. Nolind walking.

“Come on.” Kade whispered softly, pulling me to move.

I heard his voice but didn’t see him, gulping and turning away. Kade moving a huge fern leaf out of the way for me, “Why did you show me this?” I fought the tears back, pulling him to stop.

He sighed, slowly turning halfway back to me. “I didn’t mean to, I haven’t been able to travel correctly ever since…” He trailed off, staring at me. I waited for him to go on but he shook his head cold, turning back. “Come on.” He moved another fern out of the way, getting awfully dark. My hip hit something hard, yipping and cursing under my breath. I growled, rubbing the spot as I glanced around when my eyes started to adjust.

“Shit.” Kade growled deep. “Not this one.”

“What?” I gulped, hearing someone yelling. Something didn’t feel right, sending the hairs on my neck to raise. My eyes scanned the kitchen. Dr. Nolind’s kitchen. The apartment. My eyes flew passed Kade’s stiff body to see multiple people in all block standing in the lvingroom, seeing Dr. Nolind sitting on the couch next to some girl as she caressed his hair. I walked over to the counter and leaned against it, seeing Kade had that same worried look back at the desert.

“Where is she, Nolind?” A voice provoked me to look, seeing one in black sat across from Dr. Nolind sitting on the coffee table.

“I don’t know.” Dr. Nolind blurted out, flinching when the girl hissed near his face.

The man on the table sat up straight and sighed, rubbing his thighs as he nodded to someone off to his right. Following the figure to the door, hearing something shuffle pretty loud just outside. When the door opened, a figure stumbled in; hitting the ground pretty hard. A deep groan came from them, leaning over the counter to see blue hair. Gasping and turning back to Kade who had the same calm look, flicking his eyes past me.

“You were there!” I whispered harsh.

“Hush.” He groaned, tossing a glare before I went back to watch. Seeing two of the raider picked up Kade and shoved him on the other couch, one of them grabbing his hair and jerking his head up.

“So this is the other one, huh?” The guy suddenly gestured to Kade with a knife, Dr. Nolind’s brows tugged down.

“Where are you getting at?”

“I just want both of them, that’s all. I already have one.” He pointed his knife to the girl who purred. “She can used one giant fuse box. That’s why she’s so precious to me. And now.” The man’s hood slowly face Kade who hissed, making the girl hiss towards him.

“Fifthly little cu-!” Kade got his head jerked up more by the guy, growling deeper.

The man turned back to Nolind who exhaled smoothly from his nose, “So—how did pull it off with this one? He’s sure a hot head, time travel and just. He’s another perfect pet. Especially with his toy stick.”

“I’ll show you stick.”Kade grunted.

The man chuckled at Kade, keeping his direction towards Dr. Nolind whom shook his head. “She’s not yours, she’s mine. She’s my daughter.”

“But you played around with her blood, didn’t you? Wasn’t that your assignment?”

Kade grunted, grabbing my arm. “Come on, you don’t need to hear this.”

“No.” I whispered, shooting him a pleading look. “I want to.”

He sighed, nodding and facing back to the sick movie in front of us. Dr. Nolind leaned on his knees and for once shot a serious dark look, licking his bottom lip and took a breath in. “She was never to any part of that.” I gasped, turning back to Kade. He pinched the bridge of his nose closed his eyes, groaning.

“So she was born normal then?”

“…Yes.”

“Kade…”I whispered.

He dropped his hand on the counter and swallowed, “Yes.”

“Take me now.” I gulped, looking back as I saw the other Kade forced to stand as everyone except Nolind did. “Alright, I want to see it.” The man gestured the knife toward Kade whom jolted.

“No—No, I’m not!” He shouted.

“Alright, Nebreska.” The man snapped.

“No!” Kade shouted, hearing the entire room was quiet.

“Good then.” The man nodded, patting Kade’s shoulder. Kade now looking sick, I shot the present Kade a sick look, he exhaled and turned away and crossed his arms. Sickness made his skin turn pale as he closed his eyes, seeing everyone started to leave the room except for the man and the Kade and Nolind. The man kept his hand on Kade as he stared down at Nolind.

“You surely made another pure killer, I just really want to see if this last one is too. I’m just shocked she’s been living a lie this entire time.” The man chuckled, leaving them alone. The door echoed when it click shut, seeing Kade stand there. His hand trembled as steel eyes stuck on Nolind’s fragile glassy eyes.

“Are you made at me too?” Dr. Nolind smiled.

Kade gulped and glanced down to his feet, he cleared his throat and stiffly shook his head. “Why would I?” He returned his eyes back on him. “You did nothing wrong but create something unique.” He huffed up at his hair.

“Promise me you’ll take care of her like you did before.” Dr. Nolind sighed.

Kade stood there, “…Look to your right.”

It was like my presence was just realized, both of them glancing our direction. The present Kade must of felt it since he peeked over his shoulder, him past- self smirked and raised his hand.  I stared in horror at Dr. Nolind warm smile.“I promise.”

Present Kade suddenly jerked me into his chest, everything went black as something splatter from the sound of it. Kade breathed into the crook of my neck as he hugged me tight for comfort but I felt no ounce of it, Kade killed Dr. Nolind. He killed the one who kept my life a lie.

I…I was normal.

“Let go of me.” I sniffled into his shirt.

“Valerie, I-.”

“Let go of me!” I screamed, squirming violently. Wedging my arms in and shoving him away, falling back on hard wood. A yelp escaped me when my head bounced off the floor, grabbing my head and curling up into a ball on the floor.

“Valerie?”

Aiden’s voice hit my ears, feeling his hand on my shoulder. I cried in my arms, not wanting to move when Aiden attempted to pick me up. Sobbing louder as he carried to something comfy, hugging my knees and continued to cry. How could Kade look at me and not say such a word of it? How could Nolind do such a thing, I was only a little girl! Why did this only happen to me!? Aiden wrapped his arm around my shoulder, hiding my face into his chest.

“It’s okay.” He cooed, rubbing my back.

That was the last thing I could ever believe.
