Return to a New City

Your P.O.V

"Ridiculous." You mumbled to your assistant as you watched the latest news of Gotham city from inside your limo. A week before, your father, Head of Dehai and Co. passed, leaving the second largest corporation in Gotham in your hands.

Your father had run the business for as long as you could remember. His great grandmother had formed it back in the day and it had been family run ever since. It focused on technology advances in the sciences from a medical and weapons point of view. It the Wayne Company hadn't come along, your family's company would be first.

"Gotham's changed greatly since you and your mother moved away." She replied quietly, eyes never leaving the screen. "Seems the violence hasn't changed, more so the publicity and... attire." You watched the crazed maniac known as the Joker laughed onscreen, a message he left behind at his greatest heist.

You found him and the Batman highly undignified, parading throughout the streets, endangering civilians with their shenanigans. One dressed as a clown the other as a tiny mammal, something only the streets of Gotham could cook up.

"I s-suppose." Your assistant mumbled. You watched her timid hand wrap itself tighter around the clipboard before turning your head out the window. "But you are right." You said. Your assistant looked at the back of your head as your eyes remained unwavering at the glass. "It definitely has changed."

You turned to her. "Piper wasn't it?" She glanced at you. "yes mam." "Let's go over my speech one last time..."

~TIME SKIP~
You stood in front of the hindered or so news crews, eager to see what the new heir to the throne had to say.  You gave one of your prettiest smiles for the cameras, bright lights leaving black spots in your eyes.  You cleared your throat and the audience hushed, the only sounds being the static of the microphone and the occasional camera snap.
"People of Gotham..."  You spoke regally, looking over your kingdom.  "When my great great grandfather founded this company, her had one goal;". You paused.  "To advance Gotham, to lead it through the science industry to pave a better future for its people.  My father followed this goal and died believing in it."  You scoffed inside your head but continued on.
"As a child I grew up believing in this goal as my father and his father did before me.  Now, returning here, I see my family's work is torn apart by common criminals in costumes.  I refuse to let that continue and stain the history of my family.  That is why I have returned to you to continue with this goal.  I have returned to Gotham not only to follow in my predecessors footsteps, but to reform it."  You looked up from the notecards in your hand, often making eye contact with the wide eyes of your audience.
"That is why I, Y/N Dehai, will run for mayor this season."  The crowd was dead silent.  "Thank you."  You said, closing your statement.  You turned away as cameras began to flash and you were bombarded with questions as you were escorted back to your vehicle.

Bruce's P.O.V
"Master Wayne.  Perhaps you should come see this."  Alfred called.  "What is it?  Did the Joker attack again?"  Damien said, jumping to his feet and walking over to the TV.  He sighed and looked up from his research.  As he make his way over, Alfred explained the situation.  "It seems the Dehai Company may have a new queen."
Bruce read the headline.  'Dehai heir returns to city, runs for mayor'. "Mayor?"  Damien laughed.  "What's a girl like her going to be able to do?"  Alfred pinched his ear.  "Master Damien, perhaps it is best if you retire for the night."   Bruce nodded as Damien glared at the butler.
As Damien left, Bruce continued to watch the TV.  Alfred walked up behind and put his hand on the chair, watching the news.  A reporter women continued the story.  "Y/N promises to rid the city of its 'costumed freaks', including that of Batman and the Joker-". Bruce shut off the TV and Alfred glanced at him.  "Do you suppose this Y/N character shall pose much of a threat to us Master Wayne?"  Bruce put his fingers together and his elbows in his lap and he leaned over, studying the dark screen.
"I doubt it Alfred.  Batman isn't one to follow the law, only enforce it."  Alfred stared at him solemnly.  "Very well sir.  If that is your decision."  Alfred bowed and backed towards the door.  "Then I shall leave you to your business."  Bruce looked up.  "Goodnight Alfred."  He said before getting up to return to his work.
