Healing and Hearts

Your P.O.V
You turned the corner of the newspaper you were reading, feeling the paper roll under you fingers as you peeled back another page. You began to read the article. 'Red Hood Strikes back in Rise'. You sighed. "This city only ever seems to get worse and worse." You mumbled. You assistant looked up concerned. She had come in to update you on your campaign. Currently, she was filing some papers under you supervision. The doctors had prohibited you from any stressful work.

"Don't say that!" She said, head popping up from the folder from which it was buried. She set down her pen and faced you. "With your help and determination, the city is sure to become better again!" You sighed and turned your head on it's side. You found yourself always drawn towards it. The thin glass, sheltering you form the rain and wind. The blinds hiding you from society. "After what happened at the company...I don't know anymore." You trailed off, letting a stray tear drip down you cheek.

"No no Ms. Dehai!" You assistant quickly moved her paperwork and scooted her chair over next to your bed. Using her thumb, she wiped up the tear and gave you a sweet smile. "I know things may seem bad but you shouldn't feel like you're the one to blame!" She picked up your newspaper and took off the first page reading, 'Dehai company Head Working with Joker?!?', and threw it in the trash. "No matter what other people say, you can't really convince people unless you convince yourself first."

You grinned. "You should of become a candidate instead of a assistant." You said jokingly. She smiled. "Well I much rather help you." You chuckled. "You ought to get a raise. Remind me again as soon as I'm allowed to touch a pen to paper." She blushed and looked down at her hands bashfully. "T-thank you." You both jumped slightly at a knock on the door. "Come in!" You called out. A nurse quickly opened the door, looking a bit flustered. "Um... A Mr. Wayne is here to see you." You straightened up and ran your fingers through your hair.

"Don't worry you look fine." Your assistant whispered. You nodded then turned, only slightly at ease about your appearance. Your turned you head to the nurse. "He can come in." You said. She nodded and opened the door a little wider, letting Bruce slip through and to your side. Your assistant slowly collected her papers and left the room, leaving you two alone.

"Y/N! I tried to call but it seems they won't let you near your phone?" He asked quickly. You nodded and smiled. "They seem to think everything I do will somehow be work related." You joked lightly. The worry in Bruce's eyes died down slightly as he gave a small smile in relief. It was then you noticed bags under his eyes.

You tilted you head and touched his face. "You up all night?" Bruce nodded and copied. "I know the feeling. I can't tell you how many night I've stayed up working." You said, remembering. Bruce gave a chuckle and played with your hand, holding it. "Well the reason I stayed up wasn't exactly paperwork." You felt you cheeks' temperature rise as you realized what he was saying. You brain blanked out and all you managed to utter was an embarrassed 'Oh.'

There was an awkward silence for a moment before Bruce spoke. "They wouldn't let me in earlier. Said Batman was here." He said, looking around and room. His eyes fell on the hole in the wall where Batman had punched. He raised his eyebrow for a moment, almost quest jointly before his face went totally blank, unreadable. The hospital staff had tried to cover the mark but failed miserably.

His eyes darted across the room, mostly likely to search for other marks of aggression but you ignored it. "Yea he was here. Asked a bunch of questions about the Joker and what he wanted." Bruce walked around and sat in the empty chair your assistant had left.

He clasped his hands together, lacing his fingers together and rubbing his thumbs. "So what you tell him?" He asked. You looked at him, confused. "The truth! I didn't know such shady operations were happening at my company! I wouldn't dream of doing such a thing!" Bruce held up his hands. "I know Y/N. I know." He waiting for you to calm down before continuing. "It's ok." He lowed his hands into his lap. The room fell dead silent.

"You know..." You said quietly, after a moment. "I'm starting to think this whole mayor thing might be a bad idea." Bruce looked up. "What? Why?" You looked down at your hands. "Everything I stood for, order, law, it all came crashing down around me over the course of one night. What if I've been making the wrong choices?!" You looked at Bruce, eyes starting to water.

Bruce grabbed your hand. "Y/N. Why would you think that? You've been doing amazing so far in the polls. Why let one event let you down?" You shook your head. "It' just... I think I'm staring to really see how damned this city really it. Before I just jumped headfirst into the problem without really looking at it." You lifted your eyes to look at Bruce. "Maybe this city needs Batman more than me?" Your voice cracked and you shut your eyes tight, biting your lip in frustration.

Bruce frowned but remained silent as you continued. "As I look on it now, it seems he's doing all he can as a citizen to fix the corruption. Fighting crime with violent but good intent. Do you see what I'm saying?" Bruce thought a moment before responding. "I think." He said carefully. "In order to truly fix Gotham, it may require fixing on the political side as well as on the streets. You think Batman is much a political beacon to the people? If he just leaves, crime will return to normal. We need someone like you to make a long term solution."

You threw you hands up in frustration. "But going against my word this far in the election! What would my followers think?" Bruce put it hand on his chin. "Well you have two options. One: you give up and maybe try again another year with a different approach... OR you approach the people and tell them your new opinion and reasoning. Who knows? Maybe they'll change too?"

The door to your room opened slightly as the nurse popped her head in. "One more minute for visiting. Ms. Dehai needs her rest if she wishes to leave the hospital next week." Bruce nodded and she closed the door. "Well I suppose I should be leaving then." Bruce said, standing up. "Oh!" He said, remembering. "Damien and Richard say hi." He added. You smiled. "Tell them I say hi back." "But Y/N..." Bruce said, as he placed his hand on the door. "I trust you'll think about it before jumping in blind again?" He smiled slyly and you couldn't help but laugh. "Alright. You know what?" You said. "As weird as this sounds, you actually remind me of Batman!" Bruce froze. "What make you say that?" He asked. You shrugged and waved you hand dismissively. "No reason. Probably the medicine. Although... Now that I think about it-" Bruce quickly caught you off guard with a kiss. "Get better soon okay?" He asked. You were still discombobulated but managed to give a smile. "Yea. Okay."

You continued to smile until Bruce walked back over to the door and left. You chucked to yourself. "Wow these really are some powerful meds... Me thinking Bruce could be some dark guy in a suit." You leaned over and picked up your newspaper again. Glancing down into the trash bin, you picked up the front page with the article about your company. You had a decision to make and it certainly wasn't going to be an easy one.

A/N: Helllllllooooooo my fellow readers!
This chapter is largely based off the poll. Kinda a thinking chapter before the decision. Hope you enjoyed it anyway! School has been killing me. I haven't gotten good sleep all week and was completely frazzled earlier today. Writing is really one of the only ways to enjoy myself anymore.... On that bright note, can't wait to write more soon! XD. Always stay amazing!
