An Alliance of Sorts

Your P.O.V
The clock ticked as the seconds went by but all else remained silent except the TV in the corner.  "The damage from the explosions has finally been cleared off the streets and sidewalks.  The Joker and Harley are also still at large.  If you see them, please contact the authorities immediately."  The newscaster turned the page of her script.  "In other news, the new mayor finally accepted his election.  Congratulations Mr. Duxbury.  We hope you lead the people of Gotham to a new era of peace and prosperity."

You sat across from Bruce, stiff and awkward.  You had yet to ask him about the events of the previous day.  You were relived however, Bruce's face seemed to have healed the worst of the damage.  Alfred walked in with a tray with cups and tea.  "To ease the tension."  He said, setting it down.  "And turn this blasted TV off."  He said, grabbing the remote.  "The both of you could use a break from it for a while."  You and Bruce said nothing, watching as Alfred poured the tea, bowed, then left.

"I suppose... You want to hear what I have to say."  Bruce said finally.  You nodded.  "I understand why you kept your identity a secret and I'm sorry for invading your privacy."  Bruce gave a small smile that even the bruises couldn't taint.  "Well you were doing what you did to help."  He said, pointing to his forehead.  "You as Batman.  Who would of guessed?"  You felt tears slip down your face and your nose begin to run.  "I'm so sorry."  You said, voice cracking.  You buried your head into your hands.  "If I had just done as Joker said then this would of never happened."  Bruce shook his head.  "I know the Joker better than myself.  Believe me when I say that either way would of ended in disaster.  You just did what was right so... Thank you."

You wiped away your tears in a failed attempt to clear your vision.  "For what?"  You heard Bruce stand up and walk over to you.  The floor gave a small squeak and you felt the sofa sink under his weight as he sat down.  Taking your chin into his hand, he lifted your head up and wiped away your tears.  "For making fall in love with you even more."
Your eyes widened as Bruce's lips made contact with you.  They were soft and warm, folding perfectly into yours.  A tear slipped down adding a salty flavor.  Your mind was still in a state of disorder but your body reacted on it's own.  Your hand played with his hair as he wrapped his arm around your waist.  The kiss wasn't long and you oddly found it comforting.

When you broke away from the kiss Bruce hugged you tightly for a moment before moving slightly back.  Bruce tucked a loose piece of hair behind your ear.  "Y/N."  He began, looking over his shoulder for a moment before turning back to you.  "In the beginning, when we first met you, I saw you as just another power hungry business owner.  But, over time, through all your speeches and rallies, I came to notice we shared the same passion for the cleansing of this city."  Bruce grabbed your hand as you wiped off the last of your tears with the other.  His speech left you in a sense of awe.  He paused, taking a deep breath before looking firmly into your eyes.

"We may of had different ways of reaching this goal but maybe if we could work together, we can finally fix Gotham.  The dark knight and the bright voice in an alliance of sorts."  You gave him a small smile and nodded.  "Of course Bruce.  It is true in the beginning I saw Batman as more of a obstacle to the safety of society but after everything that's happened to me over the past year I'm finally begin to get a clearer picture.  I will be overjoyed to work with you as partners."  Bruce smiled slightly then got off the sofa and leaned down in front of you, hand still clasped around yours.  "Well.  I guess what I'm trying to ask is more of an alliance through marriage."  Your mouth opened in shock and Bruce smiled innocently.

"Y/N.  I've met many people but you have been something so wonderful.  The way you speak your mind, the way to stick to your beliefs, the way you strive to be a better person.  To finish what I was saying before you hung up on the way to save everyone against Joker: I love you Y/N.  Will you marry me?"  You felt tears run down your face again as you smiled and gave a small laugh.  "Oh Bruce. I'd love to but-" You bit your lip.  "But what?"  He asked.  You avoided his gaze.  "D-during the time the Joker attacked at my office...  I was stabbed."  Bruce nodded.  "When I got the the hospital, because he gave me the anti-acid I lived but-"  You looked into his eyes.  "I don't know how you'd feel about a women that can't have kids."

Bruce looked down at your stomach for a moment in thought.  "Y/N..."  He began, reaching up and touching you face.  "Well you could always adopt."  You and Bruce turned in surprise to see Alfred, Richard, and Damien standing in the doorway.  Bruce smiled at Richard's comment and turned back to you.  "He does have a point.  You should know by now Y/N.  I love you for who you are.  Having kids doesn't mean you have to conceive them.  It just simply raise them as your own."  You wiped away your tears.  "Well in that case-". You were all chocked up but smiling nonetheless.  "I accept your proposal Mr. Wayne."
