twenty-four

Marinette woke up the next morning. Today was her 17th birthday!

She looked next to her and Adrien wasn't there.

She frantically got up and ran downstairs in panic. She was scared something had happened to him.

"Happy birthday!" Her mom, dad, and Adrien exclaimed when she got to the bottom of the stairs.

Marinette grinned. "Thank you!"

Adrien walked up to her and gave her a kiss on her forehead.

"Happy birthday, Bluebell. I love you so much." He smiled at her with love.

"Thank you. I love you so much." She blushed.

"Happy birthday honey!" Tom sing-songed. He wrapped his arms around Sabine, Marinette, and Adrien.

"Happy birthday Marinette!" Sabine gave her daughter a kiss on the cheek.

"Thank you Mom. Thank you Papa." Marinette beamed. When the hug broke apart, Marinette said, "I can't believe I'm seventeen already."

"Time really does fly." Sabine said as she wiped a tear from her eye. "Soon you'll be off to university."

"I know, it's so weird." Marinette giggled.

"I've made you breakfast, it's your favorite." Sabine stated. "Chocolate chip pancakes."

"Thanks Mom." Marinette said. "I'll get dressed right after."

"Don't spend too much time getting ready, though." Adrien grinned. "I've got something special planned for you today."

"What is it?" Marinette asked eagerly.

"It's a surprise." He chuckled. "It wouldn't be one if I told you."

"Alright, alright. I'll hurry up." Marinette huffed. Her parents chuckled behind her, said their goodbyes, and went down to the bakery.

Marinette ate her breakfast slowly but surely, and had her puking routine. Then, she showered and headed up to her room. She found a garment laying on her couch, with a sticky note on it.

Marinette approached it with a confused look. She picked up the sticky note and read it.

'Wear this, you'll look beautiful in it, trust me. I'll meet you at 11 in front of the bakery.

I love you,

Adrien'

Marinette couldn't help but to smile. She really had the best boyfriend in the world.

She opened the garment and it contained a beautiful dress.

It looked oddly familiar.

*Flashback*

"Aha! I'm done. Do you want to see it?" Marinette exclaimed from Adrien's desk chair. They were sitting in silence as Marinette had a desire to draw some designs

"Of course." Adrien stood up from his couch and walked towards his desk, where his girlfriend happily waited for him.

He put an arm around the chair and leaned down to look at Marinette's sketchbook that laid on the desk.

It was a beautiful, strapless red dress that hugged the torso and flowed from the waist-down and stopped mid-thigh. (View chapter photo. In this story, the dress is red. All credits go to the artist.)

"Wow, Marinette. It looks beyond beautiful. I can't wait to see you make it." Adrien admired.

"Actually, I don't think I'll be able to." Marinette said.

Adrien looked at her.

"Why's that?" He asked.

"Because when I make clothing, I make it for others. I want this one to be for me, but it would feel selfish if I made it for myself." Marinette sighed and looked down.

"You are far from selfish, my love." He lifted her chin. "This dress looks gorgeous, but it'll look beyond that if it were on you."

"Maybe, but by the time I finish making it, my baby bump will start showing."

"You could get a seamstress to make it." Adrien suggested.

"Yeah, but between buying stuff for the baby and saving for my tuition, I can't afford it right now. I'll do it after I have the baby, if my body bounces back, which I highly doubt." Marinette mumbled.

"If you want, I can get a seamstress. I'll pay for it, don't worry. You deserve to have this dress, Marinette. You deserve to wear it, to laugh in it, to look at it in your closet, to admire it, and to just..have it. Because it's yours. You designed it and you're going to wear it." Adrien insisted.

"It's okay Adrien. When will I wear it anyway? I only have three months and a half or so to wear it. It'll just be a waste of money." Marinette assured. "I'd love to wear it, but I can't. And that's okay with me."

"Alright, if you say so." Adrien sighed. He kissed her on her head and asked to see more of her designs.

He only let the conversation go because a plan popped in his head.

*End of flashback*

"That sneaky blonde boy." Marinette snickered.

Marinette put the dress on her and sprayed her strawberry perfume. She got started on her makeup.

As soon as Marinette finished getting dressed, she heard a rhythmic tap on her rooftop window.

She knew who it was automatically, so she told them to come in.

"Hi." Chat Noir greeted as he landed on her bed. "Happy birthday!"

"Thanks, Chat." Marinette smiled.

"That dress looks nice." Chat walked towards her. "Where did you get it?"

"Oh, I designed it." Marinette replied.

"Did you make it?" He asked. Obviously, he knew the answer, but he liked messing with his Princess.

"No, Adrien got it made for me." She blushed. "If I started to make it, I would've finished it when my baby started to show, and since I'm hiding my pregnancy, there was no point. But Adrien got it made for me, and I couldn't be more thankful."

Chat Noir smiled. "It looks beautiful on you."

"Thanks." Marinette smiled back at him. Then, she checked her phone. It was almost 11.

"Oh shoot." Marinette grumbled. She ran to her closet, put on a short, black cardigan, and picked up a small, black purse. "I'm gonna be late. See you later Chat."

"Bye Princess." Chat Noir waved and exited her room.

Marinette did the same, and was waiting in front of her parent's bakery.

Less than a minute later, Adrien approached her wearing a black suit, a white collared undershirt, and a red tie to match her dress.

Marinette threw her arms on his neck and kissed him passionately. "Thank you so much for the dress. I love you, I love you, I love you!"

Adrien laughed. "I love you, Princess. I'd do anything for you."

He never failed to tell her how important she was to him, and she savored that.

"So, where are we going?" She asked him with her arms still wrapped around his neck.

"You'll see."

"You still aren't going to tell me?" Marinette whined.

"Nope." Adrien grinned.

He took her hand and led her to his bodyguard's car. He opened the car door for her and closed it when she got in.

He got in on the other side and held out a black blindfold.

"Really? Are you serious?" Marinette giggled.

"As serious as a heart attack babe. May I put it on?"

"Can I say no?"

"Nope."

Marinette laughed and Adrien smiled at her. He loved to hear her laugh.

He reached over and tied the blindfold on her head carefully. When he finished, he looked at his bodyguard through the rearview mirror and nodded. The bodyguard nodded back and started driving.
