XXI

While Link had been retrieving the Master Sword from the Temple of Time, Ganondorf had stayed sheltered in a small room in the castle. Most of the castle had been destroyed in the meantime, leaving it almost impossible find a suitable place to take a rest. The roof or the floor underneath your feet could collapse any second now, but Ganondorf had managed to find an alright place to recollect his thoughts.

He reviewed everything that had happened so far, and realized that he really didn't have enough courage as Link to take on Zelda. If she could cause this much destruction within a few short minutes, who knows what she could do to a human who tried to oppose her? She could kill them in a thousand different ways, and Ganondorf didn't want that to happen to himself or Link.

But Link didn't fear that as much as Ganondorf did, and Ganondorf was glad he didn't get the Triforce of Courage.

He looked around the small room he was in, noticing shards of glass that dotted the torn apart red carpeting and the once stable curtains had been torn to shreds, laying everywhere in the small room.

Heaving a sigh, he tried to look out the window without actually standing up. Any sudden moves could cause something terrible to happen.

Ganondorf swore he saw a glimpse of green, but assumed it was just a leaf or something. But he was wrong, because all of a sudden Link bursted through the opened windows in a smooth fashion, managing to not cut himself with the sharp glass that remained of the windows.

When Link's feet touched the ground, the flooring beneath them began to shake and Ganondorf quickly stood up from his sitting position.

"Did you find it?" Ganondorf questioned the Hylian man, and Link just nodded as a reply.

Pulling the Master Sword out, it glowed with a brilliant and holy light that almost blinded Ganondorf upon first sight. Luckily, he didn't get blinded, and managed to snag a glance of the fabled sword before Link had bolted into the unstable hallways of the crumbling castle.

The Gerudo leader hastily began to follow him - the boy didn't even know where Zelda was, but Ganondorf had a good idea of where she would be.

Ganondorf caught up with Link, breathing heavily as the Hylian beside him kept running faster and faster.

"Do you even know where you're going?!" Ganondorf exclaimed, dodging a medium sized chunk of the roof that fell down beside him. He watched the roof part plummet into the floor, and that part of the floor collapsed and left a huge hole.

But that inconvenience triggered the rest of the weak flooring to crumble and then ultimately collapse in the end.

Ganondorf was the first one to fall through the flooring, but he swooped his hand upwards and grasped the ledge of a large chunk of wood that had been in the flooring. He began to climb up as quickly as he could, noticing that Link was waiting for him with a very impatient look on his face.

"C'mon! We gotta move before the whole place falls apart!" Link exclaimed, helping Ganondorf up and back onto the level he was on. Then, he began to run in the same direction, dodging the large stones that flew from the walls as they tore down, and the material that was used to create the castle grounds.

"You don't even know where you're going!" Ganondorf yelled back.

"Watch out!" Link warned, and Ganondorf instinctively moved out of the way as a large boulder fell from above.

"I don't know where I'm going, that's true! But I have an idea!" Link screamed back, continuing to run at a quick pace, dodging any boulders or other things that flew at him and Ganondorf.

"What's your big idea, bimbo?!" Ganondorf asked, practically screaming his question as a large lightning strike hit a random spot on Castle Town.

Whatever buildings laid there were now collapsing or they were burning down to the ground. Link assumed whoever was in that area didn't survive, and hoped that if there were survivors, that they escaped this now horrific town safely.

"I'm going to try to get to the rooftops! I think I saw Zelda up there when I was climbing the walls to get in here!" Link yelled his plan back in the most simplified way possible, getting ready to explain even more because there was a bit more depth to it.

"When I say go, you're going to run to the left and I'm going to run to the right! I've explored this castle before, so I have a feeling that both directions lead to some sort of route to the rooftops! We'll just have to see if one is quicker than the other," Link explained, then came to a sudden stop at the end of the corridor they had been running down.

There were two ways to go - just as Link had predicted.

Link stood frozen for a few moments, slowly looking over his shoulder at the fear stricken Gerudo standing behind him. He looked back ahead and then down the right side corridor, counting down ten seconds before he would shout the key word to their plan.

"Hey, what if - what if I end up taking the quicker way to where Zelda is? I can't fight her-" Ganondorf started speaking in a quiet voice, despite all the destruction emitting from every direction, but he was abruptly cut off by Link.

"Go!!" Link yelled, and sped down the right side hallway as fast as he could.

The plan to defeat Zelda once in for all had finally been set in motion.

Warily, Ganondorf watched Link disappear down the long hallway - due to draw distance - and then he slowly turned his heel and began to dash down the left side hallway.

Pacing down the corridor, Ganondorf had almost run completely out of breath by the time he discovered a very obvious door that had the word "rooftop" printed in a gold metal and stamped to the door.

Placing his hand on the doorknob, he pushed it open and watched as the flooring in front of the door crumbled and collapsed. And then he watched in vain as the flooring fell down to the ground, waiting until it landed in the room below where he was currently standing, before looking straight ahead. There were still stone stairs in front of him, but he would have to take a leap of faith to get there.

He only had one shot at making this, or he'd wind up as good as dead and would fail his small role in the destiny to save Hyrule from corruption.

Taking in a few deep breaths, Ganondorf leaped across the large hole in the ground and, thankfully, didn't plummet to his death. He had made it, and as he began to run up the large amount of stairs, he realized he had gotten the longer way to the rooftop. Which was a good thing in his case.

Meanwhile, Link smiled in satisfaction when he discovered that the way he had chooses was the shorter route to the rooftop. He was running up the stone stairs of the small and encased room, when suddenly he heard crashing noises from behind him.

Turning around to see what was going on, he panicked once he saw that the stairs behind him had collapsed. And they were still collapsing, trailing their way up to where Link currently was. He had stared far too long though to even think about running as fast as he could to the end of the messy staircase.

Grabbing one of his arrows, Link jumped to the side and shoved the powerful arrow into the concrete walls of the castle. The flooring underneath him had completely disappeared, and the only sounds that could be heard from his location were the sounds of the castle falling apart from all sorts of different directions.

He began to loose his grip on the arrow - which he was surprised held on this long - and skillfully whipped out another arrow to plummet into the walls.

Link looked up and realized that he was attached to a tall pillar now, and luckily, there was a small opening above him that he thought he could fit through. It must've fallen before he had even gotten here.

He ripped the arrow out of the wall, sticking it in a higher place and repeating the same action with the next arrow. The process turned into him climbing a dangerously tall pillar using only arrows that could snap at any second. That's what he was the most scared of.

But, he had courage. Sure, he had doubts and fears like any normal human being, but since he was gifted with this holy virtue of the goddesses, he felt bravery and faith. He had a feeling deep down that he could do this without failing miserably and falling to his impending death.

Managing to make it to his end point, he grabbed the edge of the stone opening and tried to climb into the hole. He finally climbed atop the flooring, laying down for a moment and taking a deep breath. Link was exhausted, but the most important thing was that he made it out of that near death experience with his life and only a little mental scar of almost dying a few moments ago.

Regaining his breath, Link stood up and threw his arrows to the side, watching them fall off the top of the castle.

Wait, he thought.

Looking around, Link discovered that he had arrived at the rooftop of the castle. It was much larger and spacey than he had expected it to be, which was a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. It would take twice as long to search thoroughly for Zelda, who was supposedly standing up here and watching her kingdom crumble, but if he could find her, Link would have this entire space to battle her. It was a perfect battle scenario that also had some disadvantages to it.

Link kept his hand wrapped around the hilt of the Master Sword, looking around everywhere and walking very slowly across the purple colored roofing.

He saw no sign of Ganondorf right now, so he decided to try and hide out until the Gerudo man arrived at the castle's rooftops.

Link took his green cap off of his head, revealing his messy hair - which was always like this - and trying to use the green cap as a way to protect himself from the pouring down rain.

The rain just got increasingly worse with each second that passed, leaving Link feeling even more uncomfortable in his own clothing. But, he would have to prevail.

Moments passed of just Link standing there, trying to spot out any familiar faces on the rooftops of the castle. It was almost impossible to see anything - with all the fog and mist that the rain had helped create.

"Link!" someone called, and Link couldn't recognize the voice. It could very well be Ganondorf, or even Zelda.

Link ran in the direction of where he heard the voice, stopping when he heard footsteps commence from behind him. Slowly, he turned around, in all honesty, not expecting to see Zelda standing there.

He took a step back when Zelda swung her rapier at him, grinning menacingly as she drew her steps closer to him.

"Do you really think that you can kill me off?" Zelda questioned in a mocking tone, gritting her teeth as she took another swing at Link with her sharpened rapier. He barely dodged it, feeling the very tip of it cut open his skin. It wasn't a deep cut, so it did not hurt, but he could do without it.

"How about we see?" Link replied. This statement angered Zelda, and she swung her foot at him and kicked him harshly in the stomach.

Link was sent flying, landing on the roof a couple of feet away from Zelda. He hurt all over from the impact of the roof and Zelda's foot meeting his stomach, but he stood up and aimed the Master Sword at her.

"Oh? The blade of evil's bane..." Zelda murmured, not seeming the least bit impressed with the blade.

"Just end this...please...and I won't have to hurt you," Link informed with a shaky voice, feeling a rush of fear arise in his lungs. He was struggling to breathe normally, but he had to stay courageous. After all, the fate of this lovely land called Hyrule was now resting in the palms of his hands.

"I'm not going to cave that quickly," Zelda eventually retorted, bestowing the back of her hand that had the mark of the Triforce imprinted on it. As Link continued to stare at the golden shape, it grew brighter and brighter.

Until, it seemed as if the light had exploded. Zelda screamed at the impact, a painful scream, but that was quickly overpowered with the small chuckle that emitted from her.

Link could see her figure starting to grow; her hair was turning into a pure snow white color, her eyes holding a hint of red in them, which represented the evil in her heart. That's what Link assumed, anyways.

He remembered reading about he legends and how the mighty beast, Ganon, had done things similar to what Zelda was doing now. History was almost repeating itself entirely. Except...the Triforce of Power didn't belong to Zelda. It didn't belong to Ganondorf either, no, but it belonged to the goddesses. It was unfortunate that Ganondorf stole the Triforce of Power, but that is what happened thousands of years ago. And now, everything was thrown out of proportion.

Link took a step back, feeling his body leaving reality and being transported to a different realm - a place where Link and Zelda could settle this once and for all.

And luckily, a certain Gerudo managed to get swept up in Zelda's transportation spell.

A/N: wow I finally finished this chapter.

sorry if everything feels kind of forced at the beginning,, was going through some major writers block as I wrote that. I think more towards the end it's a bit better...

I think either next chapter or the chapter after that will be the last ones. Maybe I'll write an epilogue...we'll see.

Thank you for supporting this book since the beginning. I started this halfway through 2015, and I took a six month break from Wattpad in 2016. This would've been finished earlier but ya know.
