Chapter 14

Okay so I usually don't write author notes in the beginning but I just want to say a big thank you to these lovely people who read my story and genuinely like it! So I dedicate this chapter to them! -Overwolf5392❤️

voorpret

(n.) pre-fun, the sense of enjoyment felt before a party or event takes place

After your slightly oppugnant  conversation with Mariah she waved you off and went to the boys, to your luck Hiccup was talking to Fishlegs about something and pointing at the dragon book, completely ignoring Mariah.

A smirk crosses your lips as you watched her desperately trying to get his attention and failing miserably. Snotlout on the other hand was gawking at her like a madman and didn't stop flirting with her since she arrived there. What surprised you the most was that she began giggling and acting bashful.

"Well someone's jealous." Ruffnut's statement made your eyes dart at hers in a second.

"Me?" You questioned with shock laced in your voice, Ruffnut just nodded while smiling like a goofball.

"I'm anything but jealous, Ruff." You replied coldly but still kept your tiny smile so it didn't come out as if you were angry or something.

"Your eyes say differently." Astrid piped in and you couldn't suppress rolling your eyes.

"Yeah I could see the jealousy burning in them from miles away!" Ruffnut added and they both laughed, you only chuckled at their reactions and shook your head in disbelief .

After that all of you had a pleasant conversation and then you heard the dragons coming. They all went to their rightful owners and when Crystal came you petted her lovingly. You looked up to Mariah when you heard fearful noises coming from her, at the moment Meatlug was flying around her. Meatlug's wings ruffled and her tongue stuck out from the corner of her mouth. Her face held a look of extreme happiness and you smiled at that, Meatlug was always excited when she meets new dragons or people.

After she placed her head on Mariah's sides something happened happened that nobody expected. Mariah kicked away Meatlug with one hard punch and it made her fly away hollering in pain. All around everyone gasped in shock including some villagers passing by.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!" You yelled, anger boiling in your blood and now you finally unleashed all the fury you've been holding. Your heavy footsteps stomping on the ground echoed and you made your way to Mariah, forcefully grabbing her arm and gripping it tightly.

How dare she attack a dragon.

"I uh- I." Her words came out as a stutter and she stared at you with such a fear in her eyes it made you feel an emotion that you hardly ever feel. Power.

"I was just scared it would eat me, I'm so sorry!" She pleaded and watched around with widened eyes, which held tears threatening to spill.

In the end she burst out in cry and closed her eyes shut, you could only rise your eyebrows at her extraordinary acting skills because she was obviously faking everything now. You looked at Mariah with a scowl on your face. "The dragons on Berk don't just go around eating people anymore. Those days have changed."

"(Y/N), that's enough let her go." You heard Astrid's icy cold voice speak behind you and took one last look at Mariah before letting go of her.

"She punched Meatlug!" You snapped back at her harshly, your words dripping with rage.

"It was just a simple mistake..." Fishleg's quiet voice trailed off and you jerked your head at his direction to find him stroking Meatlug carefully. But what he said was just final for you.

"I don't know how you can be so calm after someone punched your dragon, Fishlegs. If anyone did that to Crystal I'll be sure to make that person bleeding to death by now." You spoke not taking your eyes off Mariah so she knows that you were indirectly talking about her. After finishing you turned your heels and left, not caring about the others calling behind you.

You were walking towards the forest when you heard the thrumming footsteps of someone running from behind. It didn't take a genius to figure out that they belonged to a dragon and it was obviously Crystal.
She soon caught up with you and was now walking side by side with you, there were no words or sounds exchanged on your way to the cove, but once you arrived there you let out a frustrated scream.

Crystal just tilted her head to the side and watched you with a pout, a moment later she was next to you and layed down. You leaned on her and rested your head onto hers, an exasperated sigh leaving your lips while you tried to calm down, but it was no use because your mind was preoccupied with the thoughts from earlier.

The image of Mariah hitting Meatlug made you grit your teeth in frustration, everything about her just seemed to annoy you in a whole new level and it made you wonder how calm the others have reacted.

"Even Hiccup didn't say anything!" You yelled out while straightening up in a sitting position, Crystal crooned silently but you weren't sure if she was agreeing with you or it was a perplexed noise.

"I just want to wrap my hands around her neck and- ugh!" The moment you finished the sentence you processed what you had said and widened your eyes, wishing for her death was something totally out of character for you and realluly tried to calm down this time. You tilted your head and saw Crystal gaping you with a worried expression on her face, you sighed and you bit your upper lip.

"I'm going crazy here... You want to go home?" You asked her and Crystal instantly stood up, as you were going to climb on the saddle Crystal moved and turned around in one swift move. The next thing you know, you are showered with wet saliva which was now dripping from your face, when you touched the slimy liquid you laughed and then proceeded to glare at Crystal.

She had that loving gummy smile that always warmed your heart and it was enough to make you always forgive her about anything.

"You sneaky overgrown lizard!" You let out loud giggles, playing around with Crystal sending light punches at her and she kicked back. After that you scratched her on her chin where she very much enjoyed and soon enough she let out a series of purrs.

Suddenly she sat up tall and fluttered her scruffy ears while scanning around as if looking for someone or something. You instantly got up and followed Crystal's gaze, being the skittish person you are you took out your dagger and gripped it tightly.

Your eyes were fixed on the opening of the Cove where some bushes were rustling. A second later a person came out and you stopped yourself before throwing the knife at your boyfriend.

"Figured you'd be here." He said while walking in your direction and Toothless following closely behind. When Toothless spotted Crystal they jumped around and began their usual game of chasing each other.

You didn't say anything in response just licked your lips and fixed your gaze on the ground below. Then an overwhelming urge to ask a particular question overcame you.

"Where's Mariah?" You spat, completely ignoring his previous statement. There was noticeable anger in your tone but you did nothing to hide it, considering that pretty much everyone found out about your hatred towards Mariah.

"She's at Dragon's Edge with the rest." Hiccup's replay made you grit your teeth in order not to scream. Instead you focused on the dragons running around, Crystal jumped on top of Toothless and they toppled on the ground.

"Do you want to go there?" Hiccup offered going to Dragon's edge and you rolled your eyes.

"I was planning to, but after what you told me, no." You replied coldly, not hiding the obvious truth.

"Okay, I just don't get your sudden animosity towards Mariah. You've never acted this way so why is she different?" Hiccup questioned, there wasn't a hint of any emotion in his tone it was just the usual. You finally looked into his emerald green eyes and inspected his lovely resting face.

But then you thought about his question and couldn't suppress the annoyance threatening to spill from your words. "Maybe the fact that she freaking punched Meatlug in the face?" You retorted and saw Hiccup looking away, you were right but he didn't want to admit it.

"Well true, but you hated her even before that." He replied after some seconds and let out a quiet chuckle in the end.

"Yes, but her attack just gave me a good reason to do so." You retorted so quickly as if you had been planning that replay for ages. Hiccup's eyebrows rose upwards in surprise and after that there was nothing but silence.

You knew that he wasn't planning on saying anything back so you sighed and decided to finally drop the theme. "Okay, you know what? Let's just forget about everything and go  home."

A smile crept on Hiccup's face and he bobbed his head with consent. You quickly pecked his lips and pulled away with a grin, you then grabbed his hand and ran towards the dragons. Their ears perked up once they saw both of you approaching and a moment later they were running to you and battling each other who can reach both of you first.

Crystal reached you first and you congratulated her by petting her on her chin, while doing to your eyes landed on Toothless who had a grumpy look on his face. A second later an idea popped in your head and you widened your eyes. "Hiccup! Can we swap dragons? I want to ride with Toothless!"

"Sure?" He answered reluctantly sounding like he asked a question rather than agreeing. A wave of confusion washed over him and when you looked around you saw that the dragons matched his expression as well.

You instantly climbed on Toothless and felt the difference between the saddles, whereas yours is soft like a feather this one was slightly dense. Nonetheless, you focused your mind on something else and gently patted Toothless on his head, earning yourself a croon.

Crystal lift off and when Toothless did, you suppressed the urge to yelp. You were not used to the sudden speed and generally how faster Toothless was in comparison to Crystal.

Usually you would do stunts to pass the time back home, but now being on another dragon you weren't quite sure if you can do anything. You glanced at Hiccup and were pleasantly surprised to find him staring at you in awe, with his lips parted and eyes slightly wide.

"Do I have something on my face?" You questioned.

"No, its just, you-" Hiccup replied. The wind was howling loudly and you couldn't hear the last bits of the sentence he said.

"What?" You wanted him to repeat his words, but Hiccup just smiled and responded with a simple 'nothing'. You pouted and hoped that your puppy-dog eyes might change his mind but Hiccup only shook his head.

The rest of the flight passed with both of you having a loud conversation so that you could understand what you were saying. Time passed quickly while doing that and soon enough Dragon Edge was in view. The sun was still high up and it helped you see the clear view of gang in the dome, but you subconsciously squinted with vexation once you saw Mariah laughing with the others.

You didn't just randomly had the urge to ride with Toothless, it was more of a need to show off in front of Mariah that you had the power to get Hiccup to let you ride on his dragon.

After the dragons set foot on the ground you suddenly felt very live like a rush of adrenaline flew through you. It made your lips curve in a wide grin while you dismounted, you locked eyes with a hostile-looking Mariah and your grin grew into one that stretched from ear to ear.

"Hiccup! Flying with Toothless is so fun!" You exclaimed loud enough so that the everyone can hear. It was certain that Mariah must've felt some sort of jealousy because she was now glaring at you.

"Same here." Hiccup replied and Crystal nudged him on his side which got her a pat on the head.

After greeting the others, all of you made your way to the clubhouse and ate dinner. What irked you the most was the fact that Mariah was sitting next to Hiccup very close, even though there was plenty of room to sit anywhere than here.

You focused your attention to the others and chatted along on the current theme, surprisingly Mariah stayed quiet the whole time even though she looked like the type of girl that would talk none-stop. She suddenly excused herself saying that she needed to use the restroom and left the clubhouse, a tiny smile crept on your face because she was gone but when you caught Ruffnut staring at you it instantly fell flat.

A few minutes passed and you grew bored, Crystal was probably still awake so you figured going on a little flight will clear your mind a bit. You uttered your thoughts and bid goodbye with the rest, after that you made your way towards your hut and let a quiet groan when you found your dragon sleeping on her bed.

She looked so peaceful and you were not a cruel monster to wake her up just to fly so you decided to just head back to the club house. Even if the moon replaced the sun you still caught a glimpse of someone getting out from Hiccup's hut, but it was too dark to see who it was.

"Hiccup?" You murmured quietly, furrowing your eyebrows. The person went down the ladders which was the most confusing thing in this situation, deciding it was extremely important to see what all this was about you jogged to Hiccup's hut to see what was going on.

But what you saw inside made your heart stop.

The side of Hiccup's hut was illuminated in fire with thin lines of smoke emitting from them. All of his desk was ablaze and your eyes filled with horror when you remembered that all of his ideas were written on the papers that were now burning into ashes.

Panic began to overwhelm you and you were now having difficulty trying to decide what to do. Without thinking your legs rushed you outside and you found yourself screaming for help as loud as possible.

In a second you heard doors opening from both sides, one from your own hut and the other from the clubhouse. In this situation your mind was more fixed on the fire that you weren't aware if the tiny beams of tears that were sliding down your cheeks.

Crystal was the first one to arrive and without you uttering anything she spotted the fire and immediately tried to take it out by ruffling her wings.
The gang arrived a second later and you saw their eyes jump from Crystal to you with shock plastered on their face.

The only pair of eyes that didn't left their gaze on the fire were Hiccup's, his face was still and held no evidence of any emotion. And that was the thing that petrified you the most.

"Who did this?" He asked, his voice was low and deadly. Your eyes locked with his and you saw the anger burning inside them, yet his face was still emotionless.

"I-I don't know! I saw someone running outside from your hut and fleeing! And then I walked in here and saw the fire and..and-"

"Oh yeah? How do we know it wasn't you who started it?" The moment Mariah said that every bit of confusion left your mind and it was replaced with the boiling vexation.

"How do we know it wasn't you?" You instantly snapped back. Your assumptions about her causing the fire grew bigger when you recalled how Mariah was absent for some time and maybe she was preparing to start the fire.

After that a staring contest commenced between the two of you. You only deepened the glare on her and Mariah broke the eye-contact and glanced at Hiccup who hasn't said anything.

"Hiccup, are you okay?" She asked, albeit it sounded like she wasn't really interested in his replay.

"I just want to be left alone." He said dully and walked to the burned desk. Everybody soon left, but after they spared a last glance at Hiccup who was now caressing his papers which were scrambling into burned ashes.

Watching that sight was truly painful and all you wanted was to hug him tightly, but you respected his choice to be alone and left. You were the last one to leave and once you did, you were met with unsure expressions by everyone around, except for Mariah of course, her face showed nothing but bitterness.

"What? Do I have something on my face?" You spat mockingly, your gaze was fixed only on Mariah and you ignored the surprised expressions everyone gave you once the words left your lips, seemingly not expecting your voice to be so harsh.

"Your face is perfectly fine, (Y/N)." She replied rather calmly and it made me rise a brow, but it fell back into its place once Mariah spoke again, "But I'm just waiting for you to confess that you started the fire, you'd be less guilty."

I let out a chortle. "Tell me one, just one, good reason why I, with sane mine, would want to destroy Hiccup's hut?" You retorted, your remark didn't change Mariah's static expression but you knew that she was struggling with words and trying to find a good comment back.

"Jealously, perhaps?" It took her some seconds to come up with that and you looked at her in disbelief, she was just finding new and ridiculous ways to blame you for a thing you haven't done.

"Pitiful. Just pitiful to watch you try to accuse me for things I haven't done." You replied with a shake of your head.

"Agreed." Tuffnut's voice stunned you because for a moment you forgot about the rest of the gang and that they were hearing everything the two of you were speaking. Nonetheless, you were very grateful that someone was on your side.

"I usually don't agree with Tuff says, but for once I'm with him on this one." Astrid added and it only made your lips tug into a triumphant smirk while you watched how Mariah's face dropped down. She let out a huff and glanced at everyone personally.

"Don't come crying after me when she burn's down the whole island." Mariah gave me one last look from top to bottom and with that she spun around and walked away Thor knows where. The gang, along with you, watched her as she walked further and further away back to one of the spare huts where you decided she should stay.

Silence followed and nobody dared to say anything but a minute later Snotlout broke it.

"Snotlout is outlout" He said loud enough for everyone to hear and all of you bid your farewells with him. After one small talk it was obvious that nobody was in the mood for chatting and the twins were the next to leave, following them Fishlegs left as well.

The only remaining people were you and Astrid so you casually glances at her only to find her staring back, her face revealing no emotion.

"Hey, uh, thanks for taking my side." You muttered sheepishly, Astrid's face relaxed and her lips formed a small smile.

"Always." She simply replied.

After that Astrid told you she was going to her hut and you nodded, saying goodbye. You pretended walking away to your own hut and at the same time watched Astrid as she entered hers, of course you weren't going to sleep, rather you will be visiting Hiccup.

You jogged back to his hut and knocked a few times, the door creaked open and in front of you stood exhausted-looking Hiccup. His green eyes that were glimmering with happiness some hours ago were nothing but dull now.

"Hiccup..." You trailed off and took a step forward to step inside, but were unpleasantly surprised when Hiccup stepped in front of you.

"I'm sorry, (Y/N). I want to be alone." He replied looking at the ground and not meeting your gaze. You bit your lips and spoke.

"B-But-" You didn't have the time to finish because Hiccup cut you off.

"Please." His voice was sharper now and you nodded slowly. You weren't mad of course, after murmuring a quiet 'okay' you kissed his cheek and moved away.

While walking you heard the door shut down and you let a sigh. The island was quiet enough that you heard someone's door open from far away, a smile tugged on your lips thinking it was Hiccup but it fell when you turned around and found out it wasn't him.

Instead, the sound came from further away and the only hut in that direction was Mariah's. You had passed the twin's hut and in a second you hid next to it. Mariah couldn't see you but you had a clear view of her.

Mariah was frantically looking around as if looking for someone. And she was, she was scanning if anyone was watching her. Little did she know that you were.

Soon she began running down the docs, this was quite odd and without a second doubt you jogged after her, keeping in mind to have some distance between. The chase continued till she reached the shore and what you saw there made the colour drain from your face.

There stood Alvin along with his men, there wasn't a fleet or such it was just one boat. While he was talking to Mariah everything fell into its place and you knew exactly what was going on.

Mariah was a spy.

She was sent here to find information or steal something and that was for sure. You were mad at yourself for not realizing sooner, but even more mad that you were so helpless in the moment.

You wanted to attack right now but with no sword or daggers you were useless. The men were armed with crossbows and one arrow in your stomach and you're dead.

Attacking was not an option so you settled to hear their conversation. To your disadvantage the wind was howling very loudly and it muted their conversation.

You grit your teeth in fury and ran back to the huts. As much as you wanted to inform Hiccup, you knew that he would be too dazed to think of something so you decided the best person to call was Astrid.

Once you reached her hut you banged your hands loudly against her door and panted. Astrid forcefully opened the door and you saw her with an angry expression, but it quickly turned into worry when she saw your state.

Before she said anything you yelled, "Follow me!" And dashed away, behind you, Astrid's loud footsteps echoed around.

"What's going on?!" She yelled out breathlessly from behind.

"I need to show you!" You replied loudly and quickened the pace, Astrid did as well and she was now running alongside.

In a moment you were down the shore. Everything was the same, the moon was shining brightly, the waves were clashing down the sand, the same sound of the crickets echoed. The only thing that was different was that the Outcast's ship was missing, much to your dismay.

"No..." You whispered.

Mariah was nowhere to be seen, neither was Alvin. Everything was the same as if they hadn't came and like nothing happened.

"(Y/N), would you please tell me what happened." Astrid spoke behind you, her voice layered with impatience and slight anger.

"Alvin was here! And Mariah too! She's a spy, Astrid! A spy!" You replied bitterly, cursing them under your breath. Astrid didn't look impressed and all the anger left you, panic taking over. She wasn't convinced. Astrid wasn't believing what you you were telling her.

"Yeah and cows can fly." She joked with a chuckle in the end and you swung your hands around.

"No, no! You don't get it! I saw her here!" You fretted.

"I believe you." She replied with a grin and her words were obviously a lie.

"Astrid, I'm serious!"

"Me too!"

A sigh left your lips, you were loosing her fate and if she didn't believe you then the others certainly wouldn't too.

"Look, I'm tired. I'm going back." Astrid said while walking away, she was out of sight before you could even replay. You sighed once again and followed slowly, taking your time.

'This is bad. Really bad'

-----

The next morning everyone was in the clubhouse excluding Hiccup. Mariah on the other hand, was sitting opposite of you and thankfully she never met your harsh glare, ever since she stepped foot in the clubhouse earlier you suppressed the urge to unleash all of the fury you kept at bay. The night before you were pondering whether to tell everyone what you saw, but that will be extremely difficult because even Astrid didn't believe you and plus there were no evidence to prove your accusation.

So you settled to waiting for Mariah's plan, she was working for Alvin after all, which means that she must have one under her sleeve. And that left you to another contemplation, why would Alvin do this instead of attacking on his own, perhaps he wanted to figure out our plans by having Mariah listen to them and transfer the information. This was such an unusual and a smart move from Alvin and you were quite surprised.

The chatter died when someone opened the door and everyone's gaze fixed on the person entering. Hiccup casually walked inside and greeted all of you like he always does, he had his usual smile plastered on his lips, but it was obviously a facade. If you were to look in his eyes, you could see how dull they were and how they lacked the glimmer of happiness.

Hiccup proceeded to eat and he did look up from the bowl in front of him to make eye-contact with anyone, it saddened you to see how pained he is and how much he's hurting so you cleared your throat and broke the silence.

"So, Hiccup, what's on today's agenda?" Hiccup didn't even spare a glance at you, he only shrugged his shoulders.

"I'll let you guys decide that." He replied and finally lifted his head to face everyone. You were about to say a joke, but then Mariah spoke up and just by hearing her voice you felt the rage build up.

"Well then! How about you guys teach me a thing or two about flying dragons." A grin crept on her lips as she talked, when you processed what she had said a certain event flashed before your eyes and you admonished before anyone had the chance to say anything.

"My my, do you suddenly not fear that the dragons might eat you?" You flashed a fake smile and squinted your eyes, Mariah's grin slowly faded and her face turned serious in a matter of seconds. It took everything in you not to say, "Or did Alvin told you not to?"

When Mariah realized that everyone was looking at her she chuckled lightly, "I just wanted to make my stay more fun."

"On that note, when were you leaving again?" The gang shifted their gaze to you and they held a look of disappointment which made you figure that you stepped too far. But you ignored them and continued, "The sooner the better, am I right?" You added with lighthearted tone.

"No, you're not..." Snotlout trailed off, when you looked at him you were surprised to find his face was still as a rock because usually he had any emotion other than seriousness. And instantly you were beginning to regret what you said.

"Yeah, (Y/N). Why do you want me to leave so badly? Why do you hate me?" Mariah said with feigned a sad tone, she was playing innocent but she was far from that. You resisted an eye roll while you watched how everyone was waiting your replay.

"I don't hate you, Mariah."

I despise you.

-----

"You know, that was kind of harsh."

"What was harsh?"

"What you said to Mariah."

You scoffed and crossed your arms. You took a last look at Hiccup before fixing your gaze on the water in front.

After breakfast the boys decided to teach Mariah how to fly, but Hiccup wanted both of you to go on a little flight, which you gladly accepted. It felt somehow reliving to finally be alone with Hiccup, as if you hadn't been like this for days.

"I won't hide my animosity towards her, Hiccup." You replied after some seconds, thankfully Hiccup was patient enough to wait without interrupting. He seemed to take his time to respond and you took the time to continue. "You know what? Yesterday I saw her run off to the woods, I followed her and I saw her talking to Alvin. Alvin was on our island, Hiccup!"

Hiccup snapped his head towards you, you could tell he was stunned by the way his eyebrows were arched up and his lips parted. Everything in you believed he would instantly get up and yell that both of you need to warn the others, take some actions to prevent Mariah from doing anything, but what Hiccup did was far from what you expected.

He broke into laughter, and this was the only time you didn't enjoy hearing it. You wondered why everyone found it hard to believe, how they think that was a joke. Hiccup didn't show any signs of stopping and you just grunted.

"I'm serious!" You exclaimed with gritted teeth. Hiccup stopped in an instant, he looked at you one more time and then laughed again. You glared at him until he finally stopped and just as you were going to continue speaking, Hiccup said the words that made your blood boil.

"Best joke ever!" He let out a few chuckles but stopped when you got on your feet.

"Dammit, Hiccup! Why can't you just believe me! She's a freaking spy!" You were yelling by this point, exhaling loudly through your nose after you finished. Hiccup seemed surprised by your action because he only stared at you with wide eyes.

"Hating someone is different, but plotting rumours about them is just plain stupid."

And that was it. That's when you lost it.

You didn't explode or something, you just shook your head one last time and walked over to your dragon, leaving without uttering a single word.

-----

After you left Hiccup back on the island, you returned to the Edge and went straight to the twin's hut, relieved to find only Ruffnut there. After sharing the same information you were met with the same reaction by her, laughter. Telling Snotlout or Tuffnut was out of option because they were head-over-heels about Mariah and they will probably tell her straightaway, so your last hope was to tell Fishlegs.

But your world was shattered when even he didn't believe you.

Three days have past after those events and you hadn't talked to anyone ever since. The others tried to talk to you, mostly Hiccup, but you just plainly ignored them. You weren't sure why you were acting this way, but it felt like it was the right thing to do.

Finally the rational side of your brain began to work and you realized how childish you were behaving, you decided to go out and meet with the others. You looked in the dome and the clubhouse, but they weren't there. All of your anxiety fled away when you saw the gang in the dragon stables, bathing their dragons.

What you didn't expect was everyone's cold stare to be fixed onto you, nobody uttered a word and they just continued their duty. Even after greeting them happily the silence remained, you decided to join their activity and proceeded to get a bucket of water and bathe Crystal.

Meanwhile their chatter arouse and each time you tried to join it, the others would just straight out ignore your statements and continue talking as if you hadn't said anything, it irritated you of course but not as much as Mariah's suggestion.

"I think it would be great to let the dragons free for a day, what do you guys say?" Before you could retort she said the words that made your heart sink, "And Hiccup you can put the automatic tail on Toothless so he wouldn't be left out!" She smiled warmly at Hiccup while I felt like I had been utterly betrayed.

Why would he tell her about that? I mean sure it isn't anything major or anything, but still...

"That's a great idea!" Hiccup's replay made you e feel like you had been stabbed, and the enthusiasm behind his voice made it worse. The others agreed as well which was a catastrophe. You wanted to scream for them to rethink about what they're agreeing to but it would probably be to no avail, considering how they've been ignoring you all this time.

Mariah's eyes fixed on your own and a smirk crept on her face and she questioned, "Is Crystal going to join them?"

"Absolutely not." You said almost instantly, like you had been waiting for her to ask you all this time. From beneath, Crystal crooned but you just patted her, thankfully she understood that you wanted to talk later and she stopped.

Mariah just shrugged. "Your loss."

You scoffed at her and looked at Hiccup, hoping to catch his gaze but he was more fixed on what Fishlegs was telling him. A few uneventful minutes later, everyone was finished and all of the dragons were clean spotless, after they said goodbye to their owners and flew away to Thor knows where.

The gang retreated to their huts and you walked a few steps behind them, while they will talking about something you couldn't help but be focused on Mariah and Hiccup who were walking in the front, suddenly she leaned onto Hiccup and whispered something into his ear which made you intrigued as hell.

For some reason, instead of going their separate ways, Hiccup and Mariah went down the stairs and those only lead down the dome. You looked askance at them and without a single doubt you decided to follow, there was no way you were leaving her alone with your boyfriend.

Your assumptions were right, they stopped in the dome and talked about something you couldn't quite hear. You secretly hid behind one bush and paid close attention to Mariah, this is probably part of her plan and your gut feeling turned out to be righteous once you saw what was happening.

Even if you were proud that you were correct that this was her plan, you hadn't expect the scene in front of you to fold. Mariah was hugging Hiccup with one hand and he returned the embrace, this gesture would've made you furious if it wasn't for one thing. From your side of view you could clearly see Mariah pulling out some sort of a blade, alarms started ringing in your head once you realized what she was planning to do.

She wants to stab Hiccup!

Without a second thought you forged ahead while screaming, in hope to somehow distract her for a bit till you come close enough. Your plan worked and you saw was their puzzled expressions as you ran faster, when you were near enough you threw yourself onto Mariah. She earned a few punches in the beginning but then began to dodge them, while doing so you heard Hiccup voicing out your name with different mix of emotions like anger, pain and worry.

"(Y/N)! Stop!" You felt strong arms wrap around your waist and pull you back, but you didn't want to stop, you kicked like your life depended on it. After some second of struggling, Hiccup finally managed to get you away from Mariah and just now you realized how fast you were breathing and the thrumming heart beating against your chest.

"What has gotten into you?!" Mariah exclaimed shocked, she was dusting her shirt and looking at you like you were some monster.

"No, no. Don't even think about faking innocence, I saw you take that knife! You wanted to kill Hiccup!" You finally unleashed your anger and didn't care about the high tone of your voice. The more you think about it, it was probably loud enough so that the others heard it. And they did, because in a minute they were all running to see what was going on.

"(Y/N)! I can't believe you right now! Hiccup's furious tone startled you, he was never this angry before and it was scary. But you didn't care, you focused more at the fact that he was defending Mariah instead of you, which made your burning anger rise even more.

"While you two were hugging she pulled a knife and wanted to stab you!" You fixed you gaze with Hiccup and saw him send heat waves with his eyes. He parted his lips to say something but Mariah cut him off.

"Lies! I would never! And why were you stalking us anyway?"

"So that you don't go on a rampage, or were you planning to kill us all? Was that Alvin's order?!"

"I have no idea what you're talking about!"

"Don't play daft, I know you're his spy!"

"I don't even know who this 'Alvin' person is!"

The quarrel could've continued if it weren't for Hiccup who stepped in.

"Stop!" His voice boomed loudly and both of you shut up in an instant. You expected him to say something to Mariah, but were shocked when his agitated eyes were fixed on you, under his cold gaze you felt so small and fragile.

"(Y/N), I just, I don't know who you are anymore. What happened to you? You've turned into this, this monster! I thought your hatred towards Mariah was just a phase but now you're accusing her of trying to kill me? Are you even listening to yourself? I can't even recognize you anymore..." Hiccup started with the most angriest tone you've ever heard but as he reached the end his voice cracked and he calmed down somehow. Hiccup's words were like a dagger and you were the only target around, with each word he spoke you felt hot tears form and they blurred your view.

"Hiccup..." You choked out, feeling the tears spill and you did nothing to cover them. Hiccup just rose hi hand as if saying 'enough' and your arms fell to their sides. You felt like braking down in front of them, you were that frail.

"Shame really." Mariah's pitiful voice made a switch to your emotions and they were gone and replaced by the fuming anger.

"You trust this harlot more than me?" Everyone gasped at your choice of word but you ignored everyone and just concentrated on Hiccup.

"After all that's happened, I'm afraid yes." He replied without skipping a beat and now everything was crystal clear. As much as you wanted to deny it, you can't, you can't stop the awful thought that Hiccup no longer loves you and the moment this sinks in it felt like all of the emotions were stripped away from you.

"You know what Hiccup?" You asked numbly while untying you necklace from behind. You looked dead into his eyes for the last time and with all the force you had you threw the necklace at his feet. "Screw you."

Hiccup's eyes widened and all of the anger seemed to disappear for a second.

"We're over." You spat bitterly.

With that sentence you ran away and swore to never come back on this island again.
