The Opposite Date: Part 1

April 8th, Friday

"Did you find it?" Tori asked Andre, after placing her drink down onto the lunch table.

"I'm looking." Andre said, looking at his pear pad.

"Just search Gargantosaurus." Beck told him, as I picked up my pizza slice and took a bite.

Andre, Tori, Beck, Robbie and I were at lunch, going over our Saturday night plans set for tomorrow night at the Museum of large bones.

Andre glanced up, "I know what to search." He nodded, furrowing his eyebrows at Beck. I giggled as Beck dismissed him and looked at me.

"You sure we all want to spend our Saturday night at a museum?" He asked, looking at Robbie and I before looking at Tori and Andre.

"It's a new discovery!" Tori exclaimed.

"It's the third biggest dinosaur bone ever found in California." I said, shrugging. I'm not going to lie, it did sound a little boring coming across it, but I lowkey really wanted to see it, and I was going with my friends, so it was going to be fun anyways.

"I hear it's a femur!" Robbie added, smirking. We looked at him, confused, "That's a leg bone." He clarified, making me nod my head and Beck shake his.

I tapped Beck on his arm, gasping, "We could be like the characters from the 'Night at the museum' movie!" I exclaimed as he smiled at me.

Tori gasped, pointing at me as she chewed her food. "Oh yeah!"

"Okay," Andre softly sighed, "Here we go. I got it. The Gargantosaurus femur bone will be on display tomorrow night from 7 to 11 P.M. at the museum of large bones." He read from his tablet.

Tori grinned, "Yes, this is gonna be great! Great!" She pointed at Andre and Beck.

"Oh, my gosh!" Robbie yelled, looking at his phone. We looked at him as he slightly shook, eyes glued to his phone.

"What about your gosh?" Andre asked.

"To celebrate the launch of the new Pear Pad three, The Pear Store at The Grove is giving away three new Pear Pads." He said, reading from the website.

"How do you win one?" Tori asked.

"Uh—" He glanced at her, before looking at his phone. "By making a video showing how much you want one. The best video makers each get a Pear Pad three!" He explained, before his eyes widened. "I got to work on this all weekend."

"No! What about the dinosaur bone?" I said, turning to him.

Tori pointed at him, smiling, "It's a femur."

He shrugged, "I got to work on my video!" He said before looking at Andre, "Andre, you want to do it with me?"

"Uh, nope, I've got a Pear Pad." He answered, motioning to his green pear pad.

"Yeah," Robbie laughed, "A two." He made fun of. Andre looked at his pear pad, furrowing his eyebrows.

"What's so great about the three?" Beck asked, before eating a fry.

"It has a slightly better screen!" Robbie said, as if that should make us want it even more. I had a pear pad 2, and I was good with it. More than good. I don't see why anyone would want another one, specially seeing as the pear pad 3, only had a slightly better screen. It was stupid and Robbie was buying right into it.

"I don't care!" Andre shrugged, "I'm cool with my Pear Pad two." He squinted his eyes at Robbie.

Robbie backed off, as I picked up my drink to take a sip.

"Anyway—" Andre said, before something was propelled through his pear pad, "Ow! What the—" He looked down at his pear pad, seeing the big round hole going through the tablet as Beck and I looked in between the 2 benches we were sitting on, trying to see what punctured his pear pad. "Oh! It's those slingshot kids again!" He yelled, looking behind him. They ran as they had got caught, hiding behind the garbage dumpsters.

"Oh, my Gosh!" I exclaimed, shaking my head. They had knocked my cherry soda out of my hand the other day!

"Oh, I hate those slingshot kids!" Tori groaned, rolling her eyes.

"They're a menace!" Beck grumbled, throwing his arm down on the table.

Robbie smirked, "Well, now you do need a new Pear Pad." He crossed his arms, leaning onto the table as I rolled my eyes. Perfect timing, right?

"What kind of video should we make?" Andre asked, putting his now impaled pear pad into his backpack.

"I'm not sure yet," Robbie nodded, "but check the weather." He stuck his pointer finger into his mouth, before pointing it up to the air. "A brainstorm's coming." He smiled, making me squint my eyes at him, slightly confused.

"Uh, maybe this is a bad idea..." Andre said, and Robbie shook his head.

"No, no, no. It's gonna be awesome." He assured, standing up from our bench and grabbing his bag before nodding his head towards the school, "Come on."

"Wait!" I exclaimed, turning around. "So neither of you are coming with us tomorrow night to see the large bone?" I asked, as we watched them leave.

"Nope." Robbie answered.

"Enjoy the bone." Andre said, following Robbie.

I turned around with a slight pout, grabbing my drink as Tori looked between Beck and I, before smirking and letting out a cough.

"You okay?" I asked.

She shook her head, letting out some more coughs. "You know, craziest thing. I think I'm sick!" She exclaimed as she gathered her things and her food.

I furrowed my eyebrows, tilting my head at her. "What? How?" I asked, glancing at Beck. Why was everyone bailing out all of a suddennnn?!

Beck put his hand against Tori's forehead, "You're not hot. You feel fine." He said, before putting his hand down and looking at me.

Tori shrugged, "I must've caught something. I'm actually really hot, see, sweat! Okay bye!" She exclaimed, standing up, before her eyes widen. "I've gotta get to the nurse! Have fun!" She almost squealed, speed walking away from the table.

"What's up with her?" Beck asked amused, as we watched her leave in a hurry.

"I don't know." I laughed, before shaking my head and looking at him.

"So, tomorrow night, I guess it's just you and me." He said, with a shrug.

"Yeah.." I murmured softly, nodding. "I guess it is..." I sighed, before looking at him. "Um.. I can't go.. I-i um.. I'm ...busy?" I nodded, trying to sound convincing as he picked up his drink and swigged on it, his eyebrows knitting together.

"Busy?" He said, placing his drink down as he looked at me." You were just talking about the museum—" He gestured to the table.

"Beck." I sighed, cutting him off. "We can't just go you and I."

"Why not?" He laughed lightly.

"Because, if it's just the two of us, then it's like..." I trailed off, before Beck nodded his head reassuringly, his gaze soft. "It's like a date..." I muttered.

He nodded slowly, "Alright, I get it." He said before shrugging, fidgeting around. "You don't want to go on a date. So... we'll do the opposite of a date." He suggested, with another shrug.

"Opposite of a date?" I repeated, confused.

"We won't dress nice; we'll eat terrible food, and we'll do something unfun." He listed, as I started to think about it. It would be kind of fun... "That is not a date. It's just us hanging out." He said.

"Yeah.. okay." I nodded, making him smile. "It's like an opposite date." I grinned, as he put his backpack on.

"See you at seven." He said, standing up from the bench.

"I am not looking forward to it." I mused, smiling at him.

He grinned, pointing at me with his drink. "Aw, there you go." He said softly, before the glass bottle of Tori's drink shattered into pieces.

I gasped loudly, before I felt my eye literally twitch. I looked at the parking lot, "You rotten slingshot kids!" I yelled, standing up from the bench as Beck and I watched them scatter. Why weren't they in school?!

After the class I had after lunch let out, I was at my locker, exchanging books from my locker to my bag. I couldn't stop thinking about this opposite date Beck and I were going on. It was going to be the first time in more than a month we would be hanging out together, just us. It was a new normal and I didn't know how I felt about it still. It felt weird, but it was something I was going to have to get used to.

Anyways, I decided not to tell Jade Beck and I were hanging out tomorrow night. It would be much better that way without her knowing.

"Hii." Cat greeted, approaching me.

I looked up as I put a book into my bag. "Hey Cat." I smiled.

"Hi." She greeted again, swaying slightly side to side. I looked at her a little confused, as she stopped swaying. "Oh wait, I already said that." She laughed.

"It's okay." I said softly, glancing at her as I digged around in my bag for one of my folders.

"So, you guys are all gonna go see the big bone tomorrow night?" She asked.

I shook my head, "No, Andre and Robbie decided they want to make a video to try and win the new Pear Pad three." I rolled my eyes, putting my folder into my locker.

"Oh, I hear it has a new screen. Slightly better, yeah." She smiled, as I nodded, furrowing my eyebrows.

"Totally worth all the money." I said sarcastically, laughing.

She laughed, "So, you don't have any plans tomorrow night?"

"Oh, no I do. Um... Beck and I are...—" I answered, closing my locker.

"Ooh." She teased, tilting her face down.

"Stopp." I looked at her, "It's really not... anything." I shrugged. I couldn't let myself think like that, we were friends and he had moved on. So had I...

"Oh, rightttt." She smiled, winking her eye.

I shook my head, "Don't do that." I laughed, making her laugh and stop. "Beck and I are friends... you know this. We're just hanging out, Cat." I gave her a pointed look as I passed by her. I did not need her going around telling people Beck and I were back together, and I didn't need Jade falling for it.

"Oh, so I can tell people you're going out with Beck?" She remarked loudly, causing me to stop right in my tracks. I rolled my eyes, turning towards her as she grinned.

I crossed my arms, "We're not going out Cat."

"So, you're staying in with him?" She asked.

"No, Cat," I closed my eyes, before shaking my head. "We are going out, but as frie—"

"I see you, girl." She cut me off, swaying her head.

"Just, please don't tell anyone." I asked her, holding out my pinky. "Especially Jade." I said slowly, looking into her eyes.

"Okay," She nodded, hitting me with her hip as she wrapped her pinky finger around mine. "I'll keep your dirty secret."

"Cat!" I exclaimed as she turned around, stomping my foot. "It's not a dirty secret!" I said, laughing as the bell ringed and she walked away giggling.

"Bye!" She shouted as I shook my head, before feeling someone jump onto my back.

"Hey, hey!" Tori greeted.

"Tori!" I grunted, pushing her off of me. I crossed my arms as I looked at her, "Hmm, I think I recall you saying you were sick... Sick people don't jump on people's backs Tori." I squinted my eyes at her before rolling my eyes.

She furrowed her eyebrows, scratching her head. "What?" She asked as she nervously laughed. "I.. I don't remember that.." She shook her head, hiding her smile. I looked at her suspiciously, before rolling my eyes. "Soo... what are you and Beck doing tonight...?" She asked.

My mouth opened, and I pointed at her. "I knew it!" I exclaimed, laughing. "We're going on a... opposite date.." I revealed.

Her eyebrows furrowed together. "An opposite date? What's that?" She asked.

"I don't really know..." I led off, as my own eyebrows furrowed before I looked at her and we laughed.

"Oh, yeah! Oh, just like that. Oh, this is great." Sinjin said as he held a camera and recorded Andre and Robbie coming down the stairs, wearing pear costumes. "Oh, yes, more of that, more of that. Really feel it. Okay, come on, smile now. Smile! Look fruitful!" He encouraged them, as Tori and I glanced at each other, walking closer.

"Oh my God," I laughed. The only thing you could see was their heads, the pear costumes were huge.

"Whoa, you two are quite the "pear." Tori joked.

"These are the costumes for our video." Robbie said.

"To win the new Pear Pads." Andre added.

"So, what's the video gonna be like?" I asked.

"Oh, we're gonna go outside, get on the roof and sing a song." He answered.

"About how much we love Pear Pads." Robbie explained. This was 100% Robbie's idea.

"Cool, and you're shooting it now?" Tori asked, seeing as Sinjin had already been recording them.

"No." Andre shook his head.

"Tomorrow." Robbie said.

"We're just getting the fruity feel of these costumes." Andre remarked, as he and Robbie started to feel their costumes and do a little jig.

"Heyy, that a new top?" Jade asked, passing by us.

Tori looked down at her shirt, tugging on it. "Oh, yeah."

"Yikes!" Jade exclaimed, going to her locker. I rolled my eyes, checking my phone for the time as Tori and I parted ways, walking to our individual classes.

"Hi, Jade!" Cat greeted, as Jade did the combination to her locker.

"Hey." She said, opening her locker.

"You want to do something fun with me tomorrow night?" Cat asked.

Jade looked at her, leaning onto the lockers as she crossed her arms. "Sure. What?"

"I don't know. I figured you'd pick because you're bossy." Cat shrugged, unintentionally triggering Jade.

"Don't say I'm bossy!" She yelled, startling the girl.

"Okay!" Cat exclaimed, backing up. "But you are," she said softly, bringing up her fingers up as Jade glared at her. "A little bit."

"Whatever. Yeah, let's hang out tomorrow night."

"Okay, but we can't invite Y/n to come with us because she's...—" Cat let out a gasp, covering her mouth. She stomped her foot as she realized what she done and looked to the floor.

"What's Y/n doing tomorrow night?!" Jade asked.

Cat pouted at her, "Nothing! I don't know." She whined, before glancing at the floor. "She told me not to tell you." She murmured, making Jade's eye twitch.

Jade leaned off of her locker, "Five!" She said.

"Oh, God!" Cat exclaimed, opting to look at the floor to avoid eye contact with Jade.

"Four!"

"Don't count!" She pleaded.

"Three!"

"Oh, I love three!" Cat smiled, messing with a strand of her hair.

"Two!"

"Have you heard about the new Pear Pads with a slightly better screen?" Cat asked, speaking quickly.

"One!" Jade yelled.

"Okay, okay!" Cat shouted, before letting out a sigh. "Y/n and Beck are going out together..."

"What?!" Jade exclaimed.

Cat placed her hand on Jade's arm, "But it's not a date! They're just hanging out as friends."

Silently, she nodded, "Okay, well, I know what you and I are doing tomorrow night."

"Going to see the big bone?" Cat smiled hopefully.

"No!" Jade yelled, "We're gonna find out where Y/n and Beck are going to make sure she doesn't get back with him." She said, turning back towards her locker. "I knew them being 'friends' wasn't going to be good for her!" She muttered, shaking her head.

"I thought you said I could pick what we do." Cat mumbled, as Jade got a journal from her locker.

"Now I'm picking." Jade shrugged, walking away.

"Bossy." Cat murmured, making Jade whip around.

"What?!"

"Nothing!" She turned around.

April 9th, Saturday

"See?" Beck shrugged, looking at me as he and I walked down the street in nearly our pajamas, just getting out of his car that he had parked around the corner, not dressed our best whatsoever. "Look at us! We look awful." He said, before pointing at me. "Not a date!" He emphasized.

I shook my head, "Nope. Nope," I smiled at him, before looking at the sidewalk. "I would never dress like this for a date." I took a look at my sweats and Uggs and tugged on the end of my pajama shirt.

"I see why," He said, "You look terrible." He remarked, no playfulness to his voice. I looked at him, slightly confused and frankly, a little bit hurt. Our walking slowly came to a stop, as he stared at me with this glint in his eyes, almost begging for me to understand that's not what he actually meant. I furrowed my eyebrows and let out a quiet gasp as it dawned on me what he meant.

I looked down, flustered, avoiding looking at him as he smiled bashfully and messed with his hair. I looked at him, as we began to walk again. "Oh, and" I shook my head, shrugging. "I didn't shower."

"Me neither." He replied, looking ahead of us, "In fact, I rubbed dirt on myself!" He exclaimed, settling in front of me as we stopped walking again.

I gasped, pointing at him. "You took an opposite shower."

He leaned his head down, leaning closer towards me. "For our opposite date." He said, as I smiled at him, "See, if this was a regular date, we'd be going to some nice restaurant." He gestured behind him.

I tilted my head towards him, "But were not on a regular date." I shook my head.

"Nope!" He wrapped his arm around my shoulders, walking us towards our destination. "We are going to eat bad seafood!" He exclaimed, gesturing to the food truck.

I gasped, "A food truck!" I said, completely ignoring the bad in bad seafood. I loved food trucks! "Wait, did you say bad seafood?" I looked at him, as he smiled down at me.

"Yep." He nodded as I looked at the food truck.

"Actually, it doesn't even look that bad." I glanced at him. It was kinda packed, there was a line of customers. Even the name of the food truck was Wheely Good Seafood.

He smirked, waving his hands towards me. "Wait for it."

"Oh!" I exclaimed, covering my nose as soon as the stench hit. "Oh, that's smelly." I scrunched my face up, waving the air as Beck scrunched up his nose too.

He looked at the food truck, "Wait til you taste it." He said, glancing at me as he led us to the food truck, his hand resting on my back.

I looked at him, grimacing. "Aww." I whined.

"Beck, are you sure we won't get caught?" Y/n whispered, nervously, as they strolled down the dimly lit pavement of the sidewalk. The scent of saltwater hung in the air from the upscale seafood restaurant down the street. The night air was cool, both the young teenagers wearing coats as they walked to their destination.

Beck flashed a confident smile, intertwining his fingers with hers. "Trust me, Y/n. My parents are at some charity event, and yours are out for the night. We've got the whole evening to ourselves."

Y/n giggled, her fingers nervously playing with the edge of her dress. "I can't believe we're doing this. Sneaking out, dressing up like grownups.. It feels so... rebellious." She shook her head. "I feel like Jade..." She muttered, making Beck laugh.

He flashed her a reassuring smile, casually draping his around her shoulders but in reality, he was shaking in his boots inside. "Relax, Y/n. We've got this. We look like adults, right? We'll be in and out before anyone suspects anything." He reassured.

Y/n giggled, hugging her arms around herself. "I guess so. But what if someone sees us?"

Beck chuckled, "Nobody will recognize us, especially all dressed up like this. We're practically incognito." He said, before noticing the still nervous-y look on her face, "Hey," He whispered getting her attention, "Just think of it as Sikowitz class, it's just a little bit of method acting." He shrugged.

She stared at him before nodding, "I can't believe were actually doing this!" She shouted excitedly, a little too loud. She had been looking forward to this night since Beck asked her on a date. A real date.

She had told her twin sister, Tori all about it, being the only one she really could tell. And as soon as she got back from tonight, she was going to wake Tori up and tell her everything.

"Well, it's our first real date. It has to be special," Beck replied as he ignored the looks of people passing, some amused as others had puzzled looks on their faces at the sight of them. "And seafood? That's fancy, right?" He nervously asked, subtly trying to see if what Jade had told him after all his pestering was actually right. He had almost let it known that he had a big crush on his cousin's best friend by his constant questions, but he had to know. He wanted this to be every bit of magical for the 13-year-old girl.

Unknown to Beck, Jade had caught on to his 'little' crush. It wasn't hard when all he looked at was Y/n, and he was always trading to hang out with her, Jade and Cat instead of Andre and Robbie.

She giggled, "So fancy!" She looked at ground, "You know..." She trailed off.

"Hm?" Beck murmured, looking at her.

"Jade is the only person that knows seafood is one of my favorite foods..." She looked at him, hiding her smile as he began to nervously mess with his hair that came to just below his ear. They had recently watched 'The Breakfast Club' for the very first time and Beck wanted to look like John ever since. Especially when he noticed how Y/n's eyes seem stay on him the whole movie. She thought John looked like Beck, and to keep her nerves at bay, she focused solely on him.

He shrugged, inserting his hands into his slacks pockets. With his voice cracking, "I-i guess I'm just some amazing guesser, huh?" He remarked, shyly smiling.

Y/n nodded, noticing his nervousness she decided to let it go. She found it cute how he had somehow got clues for their date from Jade.

It was her idea to not tell anyone about.. them going out. It was better that way she thought. She didn't want Jade to think she was just using her to get to her cousin. She didn't know how many times she seen girls from their school befriend Jade just to get close to Beck, which had caused many arguments between the two, because for 1, she felt a little jealous at how much time HER best friend was spending with them. And 2, she knew those girls weren't genuine. And half of the time, Jade had developed a crush on one of them just for them to go and ask for her to set them up with Beck. That had also burned Y/n's hide. Beck was hers'!

Out of Cat, Y/n and... Alyssa Vaughn, those were Jade's only friends. But Y/n and her were the closet, Jade loved Y/n like a sister, and for Jade, that was big. So, Y/n took their friendship very seriously, and she wasn't ready to risk it yet.

"So, can I know where were going now?" Y/n eagerly asked, as she looked ahead of them, trying to see at least something. So far, she'd only seen skyscraper buildings, coffee shops and shopping places. Beck had kept it a secret for 2 weeks now, refusing to tell her no matter how many times she'd ask him. She even sent Robbie to ask him, but the 14-year-old boy was determined to surprise her.

"I've planned out the whole night. We're gonna to go to Monarollos, get a table, eat some good food, and then I'm taking you to Moonpark." He grinned, as their pace down the sidewalk slowed a bit down.

"What's in Moonpark?" Y/n asked.

Beck nodded his head upwards, "Stars."

Y/n laughed, "Oh, how romantic!" She teased.

"Ha ha." He dryly laughed.

"I love it." She smiled at him, glancing at the ground before she hesitantly intertwined their hands, Beck's thumb instinctively rubbing her hand as they exchanged timid smiles. "Oh, your mustache is falling," Y/n said, her eyes crinkling as she laughed, gently reaching out to adjust the fake mustache on Beck's face.

"Oh," He murmured, relived, "Thanks." He said, as she fixed it from sliding off, his eyes set on the way her eyes squinted slightly, focused on helping him.

"There!" She exclaimed, looking at her work. "You're all set." She smiled, as his gaze lingered on her, "Beck?" She said, knocking him out of his lovesick stare.

He shook his head, "What?" He asked, "Oh, yea, thanks." He nodded, glancing at the ground. "Um, you look really great."

Y/n furrowed her eyebrows, looking down at her dress, and stockings. She looked at Beck and shook her head. "Beck, I look like a little girl playing in her mom's clothes!" She exclaimed, playfully. "I look terrible." She rolled her eyes. But in reality, to Beck she looked more gorgeous than life itself.

She'd had a ball in her parent's bedroom, picking out the perfect heels and coat for the evening. She bought her dress from the mall when she and her sisters were shopping and Beck had made sure to match his tie to her dress, so their outfits were coordinating. He had Cat teach him how to put the fake mustache on, before school let out for the weekend and had stolen his dad's trench coat that seemed a tad too big for his lanky figure. They had tried their best to look like adults heading for a night out on the town.

Beck's eyebrows furrowed, "What? No, you don't." He shook his head.

"You don't see this terrible eyeliner work Mr. Oliver!?" She pointed at her eyes.

He looked at her eyes, tilting his head. "Whereas you see terrible, I find beauty." He said quietly.

Y/n laughed into her hand. "That was corny... but cute." She smiled.

Beck chuckled, shrugging. "Hey, it's true!" He said as she playfully rolled her eyes, starting to walk again. "No, come on." He invited, catching up to her. "Tell me I look terrible."

She stared at him with a shy smile. Laughing, "You look terrible Beck!" She responded.

"You just called me beautiful." He smirked, booping her nose. "See? They're just words, it's about the meaning you etch onto them."

"Yeah, yeah." She nodded, looking at her tight clad feet, flustered as Beck watched her.

He stepped forward, gently raising her head up by her chin. "You look terrible tonight, Ms. Vega."

Feeling heat arise to her cheeks, a shy smile played on her lips. "You really think so?" She asked, hesitantly before laughing quietly at their little secret code word.

Beck nodded, "I know so." He said, wrapping his arm around her shoulders, "We are going to eat expensive seafood!" He exclaimed, gesturing to the restaurant as they crossed the street, a few bystanders looking at them weirdly.

Y/n stole a glance at Beck, her heart fluttering as the came closer and closer to the restaurant she had yet to put her eyes on. "Oh, hand me my heels." She said, remembering Beck had been holding them for her. As they were walking earlier, he had noticed her wincing with them on so he offered to hold them for her until they got to the restaurant.

"Sure." He gave her one of the heels, and she put her hand on his arm to keep her balance as she slipped the heel on. The heels being 3 sizes too big for her feet. She slipped on the other one, before taking a look at herself in the reflective window, she sure people were looking at her on the other side. "Much better. We look like complete grown ups!" She exclaimed.

"See?" Beck shrugged, "Nothing to worry about." He said before pointing at me, "I told you."

"You did." She laughed, her laughter getting cut short as they approached the front of the seafood place and she saw the restaurant for the first time up close. Her eyes widened, "Wow." She murmured, looking at the building. Just below the moonlight sky, Monarollos glowed with blues and whites, illuminating against the exterior of the seafood restaurant. The tall beams just beside the windows were adorned with golden decoratives, fish and lobsters, and valet parking attendants stood at the end of the splayed-out red carpet under the portico.

She looked at him, dumbfounded, shaking her head. "How did you get us a reservation here!?" She asked, glancing from the restaurant to Beck.

He shrugged, smirking. "I have my ways. Tonight's all about surprising you, Y/n." He said, making her grin at him. The two shared a smile before Beck offered her his arm. "Shall we, my lady?"

Y/n giggled, "We shall." She linked her arm with his, her mismatched red heels clicking against the pavement as they made their way toward the busy entrance.

Beck looked at the restaurant, "Just wait til you taste the food." He said, glancing at her as he led them to the restaurant. He tipped one of the valets with a $1 bill, even though they had no car.

She looked at him with a smile. "I can't wait." She gushed.

Jade glanced at Cat, as they rode in her car and Cat licked on the ice cream, she recently had got her. With another glance at Cat, Jade waited for Cat to tell her where Y/n and Beck currently were as Cat licked her mint chocolate chip ice cream without a thought in her head. "Well?!" Jade said, looking at Cat.

Cat glanced at her, before looking down at her ice cream. "Thank you for the ice cream cone."

Jade sighed, "I bought you the ice cream, so you'd tell me where Y/n and Beck are."

"I don't know where they are!" Cat raised her voice, making Jade look at her with a glare.

She rolled Cat's window down, as Cat watched and looked out the rolled down window, not seeing as Jade grabbed her ice cream scoop and chucked it out the window.

She audibly gasped as the car beside them honked and swerved, looking at her ice cream. She looked at Jade, as she rolled the window back up. "....I feel like you did that on purpose." Cat said, looking down at her ice cream cone.

"I will buy you another one if you call Y/n and find out where she and Beck are." Jade demanded.

"If you want to know so bad, why don't you call Y/n?!" She said, raising up as she looked at Jade.

"Because she won't tell me if I ask—!" Jade exclaimed, before pausing to think. "Okay..." She murmured, pulling over the car.

Cat looked around, "We stopped. Am I in trouble?" She asked.

Jade stared at her, "Give me your phone."

"Okay." Cat said, looking for her phone. She handed it to Jade, before Jade went to her contacts.

"Good. Now lean towards me and put your head on my shoulder." She instructed.

"Sure." Cat muttered, laying her head on Jade's shoulder, as Jade's arm went around her shoulder, covering Cat's mouth as she began to scream and move behind her hand. "Shh, don't fight it, don't fight it." Jade said, pressing the call button as Cat settled down. She put the phone up to her ear, as it dialed.

...

Beck and I stood in line, talking here and there about anything we thought about. The date had been going really well so far... for a opposite date. This had been nothing like our date nights when we were dating. Even when we would decide to go to Waffles 24/7 at like 11 PM after staying in the whole night. It still didn't feel like this.

I looked at my phone as it started to ring, Cat's face popping up onto the screen. "Oh, it's Cat." I looked at Beck, as I put my phone up to my ear. "Hello?" I said.

"Hi!" She greeted, as I furrowed my eyebrows, hearing faint noise in the background. Maybe it was her brother.

"Hey, Cat, what's going on?" I asked, watching as the lined moved up.

"Are you and Beck having fun?" She asked, making me glance at Beck.

I nodded, even though she couldn't see me. Beck could. "Yeah, actually," I smiled, "Not too much fun though." I looked at Beck playfully, as he laughed.

"Ha, ha, ha, ha! So, where are you guys right now?" She asked, and I looked at Beck for the street name.

"Melrose and La Brea." He whispered, leaning towards me.

"Oh, were at a seafood food truck parked in Melrose and La Brea." I answered, nodding.

"Melrose and La Brea. Okay." She said, as I covered my other ear, wanting to talk to her more without hearing the people around me.

"So, what are you doing?" I asked.

"Bye!" She exclaimed, quickly hanging up the phone. I brought my phone down from my ear, as I furrowed my eyebrows and Beck looked at me. I shrugged, letting out a small laugh. It was Cat, who knows what she was doing? Beck and I turned around, facing the food truck as it was almost our turn to order. The menu was right in front of us, and the prices were very affordable. They had crab cakes, and fish tacos and clam chowder. Tuna, mussels, catfish and shrimp. This was the ultimate seafood food truck.

"So, what are you thinking about getting?" Beck asked, gesturing to the menu.

"I don't know yet..." I muttered, looking at the food options. Some of the pictures looked a little... unusual, and some didn't. "The grilled fish tacos look good." I looked at him.

"Oh yeah," He nodded, before pointing at something on the menu. "Look at that! They have sea urchin pasta!" He exclaimed, surprised.

"Wow." I laughed, as the line went up, and we were 1 person away from ordering. A red sign was put out on the ordering window, saying, "Out of fish."

"Well, there goes my fish tacos." I said, rolling my eyes as Beck chuckled.

Beck looked at me, "Hey, do you want—"

I looked at Beck, "Hey, what if—" I said, as he and I started to speak at the same time before stopping, laughing.

"Go ahead." Beck nodded his head.

"What if we both got the special?" I asked, glancing at the person in front of us getting handed their food.

He grinned, before leaning forward. "Reading minds are we now?" He asked as he put his hands back into his pockets. "Let's do it." He said, as the line moved up. "Hi, can we get two of the specials...."

THREE YEARS AGO

Y/n's red pumps clacked softly against the pavement, as the two got in line, the other restaurant guests couldn't help but glance at the young couple. Some finding it endearing, while others raised their eyebrows in mild surprise. A few share knowing smiles at the sight of them while others shook their heads in disdain. But the two determined to have the best night ever, no matter what it took. Beck had even managed to make a reservation under his name, wanting to be extra prepared for their special evening.

Y/n took a look around as she readjusted the strap of her purse on her shoulder. She had never been to a place like this before, nor had she even been out at this time without her parents. She felt excited, and giddy.

She looked at Beck, "Are you sure we should eat here?" She asked, worriedly and quietly, making sure to be considerate of the others.

Beck's eyebrows furrowed, "You don't like it? You were just saying how you couldn't wait." He said, nervously.

Y/n shook her head, "No!" She exclaimed, placing her hand on Beck's arm, "It's amazing!" She looked around again, "But.. it looks so expensive." She winced, looking back at Beck. "I don't want you to think you have to spend all this money just to impress me." She said softly. "I mean, even the reservations cost money!" She exclaimed, remembering the couple that was 2 parties ahead of them, one of the men had forgot to set the reservation, and they had to pay to make one for later tonight. She thought it was ridiculous.

"Hey, don't worry! I've saved up some money working with my dad at his store. And I want to do this." He reassured, "Thought it would make our first date memorable." He shrugged, looking at her. "Now, just smile and don't order the lobster tail."

She laughed, and nodded, before letting out a sigh. "Memorable is an understatement." She muttered, looking at the fish swim in the aquarium wall in awe as Beck looked at her, almost in awe of her. She looked back at him with a smile, feeling all warm inside that Beck had done all this for their date. A clearing of the throat made them look up, seeing the couple in front of them no longer there. This was it.

"Good evening, welcome to Monarollos," The host greeted, eyeing them skeptically as they reached the front of the line. With a furrowed brow, "Reservation?" He inquired, giving them a once-over that made Y/n feel as if they were under a spotlight.

Beck smiled, glancing at Y/n as she smiled at the host, giddily. "Yes, uh, we have a reservation under Beck Oliver." He said, making his voice sound deeper.

"Beck Oliver?" The host repeated, skepticism evident in his tone.

"That's right sir. Table for two." He nodded, gesturing to him and Y/n.

The host glanced down at the open reservation book and then back up at them, his expression unchanged before he began to flip through the reservation book, his expression turning from confusion to disbelief as he saw Beck's name. The host's eyes darted between the two teenagers and the reservation list again, a smug grin starting to form. "Reservation for Beck Oliver, yes? This is a sophisticated establishment, not a playground." He chastised, closing the reservation book harshly.

Beck cleared his throat, readjusting his trench coat. "And we're quite.. sophisticated sir. Now, about that reservation I believe—" He said as he pierced his lips, and tilted his head, his voice cracking.

The host raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. "Sophisticated, huh?" He laughed sarcastically, "You both look like you just escaped a middle school dance."

Y/n and Beck exchanged a glance, trying not to let him get to them. Y/n opened her mouth to speak, before the host held up his hand, silencing her.

The host scoffed, "I've seen it all. Teenagers thinking, they can just waltz into a place like this." He spat, "No reservation, no entry." He shook his head, getting quite annoyed with the pair. "We have a strict policy about age. This is an adults-only establishment. Not suitable for teenagers like yourselves. Perhaps you can try the seafood food truck down the street?" He suggested, with a menacing smirk.

"But we made a reservation, and we're really looking forward to the Clam Linguine!" Y/n spoke up, attempting one last effort to salvage their night.

The host, with a dismissive wave, replied, "Reservation or not, this is not the place for children. Now leave, you are holding up the line." He said, making Y/n look behind them, seeing all eyes on her and Beck.

She sighed, glancing at Beck as his once happy face had now fallen. "Well, sir, you've just lost two valuable customers. We'll take our sophisticated taste elsewhere!" She exclaimed, pointing at him with a glare.

Just as they were about to leave, the host picked up the phone, dialing security. "Yeah, we've got a couple of troublemakers pretending to be adults." He said, looking at them. "Escort them out, will you?" He asked, ushering the next party as he smirked.

Beck looked at Y/n warily, "Abort mission?"

Y/n nodded her head, "Abort!" She shouted, as they saw security round the corner, making them run. Little did the young couple know, as they ran, security was already discreetly following their every move, ready to make sure they weren't getting anything passed them tonight.

"Melrose and La Brea, here we come." Jade said, glancing at the rear-view mirror as she merged back into traffic.

Cat stared at her, mouth wide open. "You didn't sound anything like me!" She exclaimed, offended.

Jade glanced at her, "Y/n believed it was you."

Cat sighed, resting her head on the headrest. "You didn't get my laugh right." She grumbled softly.

Jade laughed, "Yeah, I did. You go... ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!"

Cat squinted her eyes at her, sitting up. "I don't laugh like that." She moved her head as she spoke.

Jade rolled her eyes, "Puppies wearing sunglasses."

"Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Ha, ha..." Cat's laughter died down, and she stared ahead. "Dang it." She murmured.

Beck and I sat on the curb, eating our clams and garlic parmesan crab fries from the food truck. The food was actually good. Did this violate our opposite date rules?

"Mm. How gross is this food?" Beck remarked, looking up from his food as I dipped my fries in the sauce.

"So gross." I said, as I ate some more of my food. I looked at my tray of food, tilting my head. "Are these fried clams?" I asked, looking at him.

"Maybe. Are clams supposed to have hair?" He asked, showing me his.

I grimaced, "Oh noo." I shook my head, as he shook his head as well, tossing the hairy... food item back into his tray.

He looked at me, "See, this doesn't feel anything like a date, right?" He asked, and I could tell he was actually asking. It didn't feel like a date, but why did I feel as happy and tingly as I did, when we were on our very first date? I was having so much fun, because this felt like us... or what we could be like. There was no arguing, no sly remarks or even a girl coming up to Beck for his number. It was just us, hanging out and enjoying one another's company. And I didn't realize how much I missed it.

I shook my head, "No, not at all! Total opposite of a date." I smiled at him, before grabbing my drink. "Here," I raised my drink up as he grabbed his. "To seafood from a restaurant to seafood from a truck!"

He rose up his soda can, "Seafood from a restaurant to seafood from a truck." He toasted as we clinked our beverages together. I put my drink up to my mouth as a man near us began to cough and gag. Beck and I looked up as he walked toward us, his food tray in his hand as he waved his other hand.

"Don't..." He stuttered, shaking his head, "Don't eat the clams!" He whimpered, holding his stomach as he stumbled passed us. He coughed violently, jerking forward and dropping his food onto the ground in front of us. He wobbled away as we stared at him in apprehension. I slowly turned to Beck as he turned to me, before silently deciding to put our food trays onto the ground. We took a swig from our drinks, rinsing our mouths before leaning on the opposite sides of each other and spitting it out. I shook my head, slightly pouting at what could come from.. the clams.

I take back what I said about this place being good...

THREE YEARS AGO

Y/n and Beck sat on the curb just outside the fancy seafood restaurant, the two exchanging disappointed glances after being turned away from their reservation.

"Can you believe they turned us away?" Beck grumbled, throwing a rock across the street. The two sat on the curb just outside the fancy seafood restaurant, watching as guests pulled up in their expensive cars under the portico and gave their keys to the valet. Y/n wish she could be like one of the many women here, in their formal dress attire that made look red carpet ready as they took the hands of their partners and entered the restaurant. She could only hope that would be her one day.

Beck had taken his trench coat off, the thick material splayed over his lap as he continued to throw rocks to the other side of the street, stopping when the occasional car drove by. And Y/n had took her heels off, running in those were not for the weak. She rubbed the balls of her stocking clad feet as they thought about what to do next.

Y/n sighed, "No. Man, I was really looking forward to the Clam Linguine!" She whined, resting her head on her bent knees. "I feel bad, you spent your saved up money on the reservation and.. we couldn't even eat there." She said softly, looking at Beck.

"Yeah," He nodded, "But it's fine. I mean, who charges to make a reservation!?" He exclaimed, gesturing to the restaurant.

"Well, it was fun while it lasted." She shrugged sadly, looking at Beck with a smile.

He stared back at her before throwing one more rock across the road. "No." He shook his head.

Y/n looked up from looking at her lap, "No?" She repeated, confused.

"No." He said, standing up. He dusted his pants off, holding out his hand for Y/n to take. "C'mon." He smiled at her, as she looked at him puzzled.

She slowly stood up as he put his trench coat back on and adjusted his mustache. "What are we doing?" She asked, taking his hand.

"I'm getting you the Clam Linguine." He said, pulling her along with him as he walked in the direction of the restaurant, going towards the back instead the front.

"But Beck, the security!" She exclaimed, "Do I need to put on my heels again?" She asked, rolling her eyes.

He softly shushed her, looking at her over his shoulder. "No need." He whispered, as they stopped behind the restaurant's dumpster. "I saw some of the workers going in and out through that door." He pointed at one of the back doors, "I thought we could sneak into the kitchen, grab some food, then get out of here." He explained.

"Even though we could get caught, banned for life and then grounded for life, I really like that idea." Y/n smiled at him. She felt butterflies in her stomach from the way Beck looked at her. The mustache throwing her off a little bit. She laughed, covering her mouth when they heard the door to the kitchen open.

Beck peaked around the dumpster, as Y/n sniffed the air, the smell of the trash hitting her. "Coast is clear." He whispered, pulling her behind him as they started to run towards the door. There was a big bush right beside the door they could hide behind, to wait for the door to open again. Behind the bush, you could hear the chefs and cooks talking loudly to get orders out, waiters waiting on their meal or placing orders, and water sloshing around from the tank that held the biggest lobster's Y/n had ever seen.

The door slinged open, making the noise only intensify as one of the burly chefs walked out. He had a white tank top on underneath his messy apron, and on his head, he wore a black chef skull cap on his head. Y/n and Beck made sure to stay extra quiet as he made his way towards the lobster tank. He held the lid open, sticking his other arm into the tank to grab out one of the lobsters as Beck looked inside the restaurant, sighing and Y/n watched the chef. He pulled the lobster out, chuckling as he went back into the busy kitchen.

The kitchen was bustling with people, there was no way they were going to be able to get in there, steal some food and get out without someone seeing them. Both of them knew that.

Y/n sighed, "Now what do we do?"

Beck sighed too, messing with the sod. "Umm. We could try that food truck down the str—"

Y/n gasped lowly as she heard a group of people approaching them, their hushed voices getting louder and louder as they came closer. She put her finger over her mouth, telling Beck to not make any noise as the group of people passed by the bush, dressed in all black. They carried all kinds of equipment and gear, making Y/n assume they were the set-up crew for an event being held here. They followed the footpath, heading towards a lit-up space on the side of the restaurant.

She wanted to see where they were going, and if it possibly led to a door that would get them into the restaurant. So, she followed behind them, covered by the bush that separating them from seeing her. Beck watched her with curious eyes, before he looked around exasperated, fearing she would get them caught. He decided to follow behind her, but not before rolling his eyes and grumbling to himself. By the time he caught up with her, she was sat on the sod with her feet tucked under her bum, peaking over the wall at the outside dining area where it had been marked off for the event. Beside the set-up crew, there was a waiter out there too. There was a dark red door, that gave Y/n hope she and Beck could sneak through there. An older woman exited out the restaurant, holding a clipboard as she went to talk to one of the people on the set-up crew. As the door slowly closed, Y/n could see nothing but a hallway and the dining space of the restaurant, meaning they had a way in.

Y/n looked behind her, finding Beck crouched down beside her, trying to see what she had been looking at. "Look at that door, it leads right into the dining space." She pointed at the door, watching as the older woman pulled it open by its handle, and went inside.

"And it's unlocked." He whispered, nodding his head towards the door. Once the set-up crew had put their all equipment up, they stalked towards the fence gate, Beck only assuming they were going to get more of their stuff. The two stayed quiet as they passed by them, waiting until they couldn't hear them anymore to peak their heads out.

Seeing the waiter walking towards the door, "Okay, when that waiter with the tray goes inside, we make our move." Y/n whispered, looking back at Beck.

Nodding, "Got it." Beck whispered back, enveloping his hand with hers.

As the waiter disappeared into the restaurant, Beck and Y/n seized their opportunity to finally get inside the restaurant. They quickly got out from behind the bush, tip toeing towards the door as Y/n glanced behind them to ensure nobody had seen them. Beck pulled open the door and they slipped inside, being immediately met with a security guard as he appeared around the hallway's corner.

Raising an eyebrow, "May I help you?" He asked.

"O-oh, uh we were just looking for the restroom?" Y/n stammered, nervously as she peaked down either side of the light blue hallway.

Beck cleared his throat, making his voice deeper. "Yeah, got lost." He nodded, putting his hands in his slacks pockets as he rocked on his heels of his feet.

The security guard eyed them, before nodding his head towards the hallway archway. "Restrooms are towards the front of the restaurant, not out here. Better head back."

Beck looked out the hallway's archway, before looking at the security guard. "Right, sorry about that sir." He winced, smiling anxiously.

They walk towards the hallway's archway, as the guard continued his rounds, not knowing he had just given them directions they needed. Y/n and Beck smiled at each other, finally in the restaurant. The two quickly scanned the loud, brightly lit room, looking for a table that wasn't directly in the open but where a waiter could still see them.

There was a booth in the corner of the restaurant, beside the hall that led to the kitchen. It had great lighting and not a lot of people sitting around the space. Beck softly tapped Y/n arm, getting her attention. He nodded his head up, pointing at the dark blue booth. "Wanna take that one?" He asked.

Y/n looked towards where he pointed at, a smile arising on her face. "Yes, it's perfect." She looked at him with a nod. Holding hands, Beck leads them to the booth, Y/n staring at all the colorful fish in the tall aquarium walls around the restaurant. "Woah..." She muttered.

They sit on either side of the booth, across from each other, exactly in the middle. There are menu's set out on the table in front of them, and silverware wrapped in white cloth napkins. Once seated, Y/n looks around, becoming aware of some the guests staring at them.

She leaned forward, "I think everyone's staring at us." She whispered to Beck.

Beck grinned, leaning forward as well. "Let them."

Y/n stared at him, before nodding. Smiling down to herself, she opened the menu, trying to calm her nerves as Beck, on the other side of the table, did the exact same thing.
