"Good afternoon Washington middle school. pardon this announcement. It is time for dismissal and a few announcements. Teachers please check your email for more information regarding our pto meeting next Thursday the thirteenth. The world famous chocolate is coming to town. For more information regarding the fundraiser please see Mrs dean in room 302. Students tomorrow is the first day of basketball tryouts. boys and girls please bring physical packet signed by parents and doctors.

"taty are you still trying out?" Sevyn asked.

"Yeah. Are you trying out too?"  She shook her head yeah.

"Okay class remember to finish your worksheet at home and bring it back tomorrow we will be having at test on Thursday for unit two." The bell rung. "Bye guys see you tomorrow."

"Taty do you wanna come to the boys and girls club with us today? It's kinda where all the kids hang out after school."  We walked towards our lockers which was next to each other.

"Um I have to asked. If they say yes then I'll get dropped off after I do my homework." I still don't know what to call Ms Janet and Toni. I want to refer to them as my parents but I don't know if it's too soon.

"Well just text me. I'm not going until after I finish my homework cause my mama don't play that."

"Hey guys." Cam and Savannah walked up to us.

"So taty you wanna come to the boys and girls club?" Cam asked.

"Sevyn already asked. I have to see what um my parents say." That felt right saying I kinda smiled inside.

"Okay. Y'all still trying out?" Savannah. Asked.

"Yeah." We walked outside and it was kinda chilly likely I had my big jacket.

"Y'all gonna get it and we gonna be right on the side cheering."

"Well imma be cheering in the stands cause I'm not trying out for that team." Cam said. She had a little beef with the cheerleaders that were already on the team because they were mean and think their better then everybody and from what I was told cam don't take no shit. I looked up and seen Toni big black truck.

"Well my rides here. I text you guys and let you know if  I'm coming or not."

"See you." They said in sync. I waved bye and walked to the car.

"Hey taty" it was only Toni in the car so I got in the front seat.

"Hey. Where Ms Janet?" She pulled out the carpool line.

"Shopping somewhere with mama Kat. How was school?"

"It was good not that much homework which I'm happy bout. Um after I'm done my homework can I go to the boys and girls club."

"Well I was gonna take you to shoots some hoops get you ready for them tryouts. but yeah you can go hang with your friends."

"No it's fine we can go play ball. I can hang out with them another time. "

"You sure?"

"Yeah" I smiled.

"Nah come this way. Jab again." Me and Toni been at this gym for about 40 minutes now and she actually a know a lot about basketball. "Let me see." I handed her the ball. "Guard me." She was showing me how to jab. "This way. Jab your body this way. So they come through your body. Jab again. " I jabbed." Again come on." I did again."there you go now you got it. Make sure you don't hesitate with bringing that ball over with you. Now jab in." I ain't gonna lie I was sweating bullets but hard work pays off.

"Alright jab forward. Jab here. Jab here. Jab backwards. Cross here. Ima guard you. Jab through me. Get me off of you. Come on get me off of you. Don't move that foot. " I added all my weight and moved her off of me." There you go tat. Alright come we bout to work on defense." I took a deep breath. "Uh un don't give up now tat. Work hard play hard."

I nodded. "Now when you're thinking bout defense the first thing that can hurt you is over sliding. On defense you know you need to slide. Slide this way slide that way. Yea that might work but people are too fast, too skilled and too athletic now the biggest mistake players make is over sliding. They feel like the only way they can play defense is by sliding but nah yo. To stay in front  of people you need to turn, run and cut off." I nodded. " now if you starting to sliding with somebody and they look like they bout to go by you instead of sliding in front of them you turn run and cut and try to cut them off so you can change directions. Okay come guard me." 

I stood in front of her in position. She moved passed me and shot the ball."come on tat you gotta cut me off. The whole key is as soon as you think you might be being beat you gotta beat that offense player back to a spot. So if you can turn run and cut off  then already you're gonna be a much, much more defensive player cause you can move a lot faster on the court." We got in position. I thought to myself turn run and cut off. "Alright come on."  We went again. Turn run and cut off. I did it. "Come on tat that's what I'm talking bout. Remember don't hesitate. Come on let's go again." We did it two more times.

After a while we worked on mirroring the ball and a couple of more defense moves.  "Okay we done for the day.you wanna practice again tomorrow?"

"Yeah." She nodded and handed me a bottle of water."I didn't know you were so adamant about basketball. How long you played?"

"Middle school and high school."

"Why you stop?"

"Cause college wasn't for me but I loved playing basketball sometimes me and homeboys still play."

"Well looks like we got something in common." She smiled and side hugged me but I returned with a full one.

"Let's go home. Hopefully janet done cooking?"

"What she make?"

"Salmon and white rice with corn."

"She's like a chef. She always make big meals."  She giggled and backed out the gym parking lot. "So do you watch the wnba?"

"Hell yeah. Aja Wilson one of my favorite players." I gasped and immediately got excited.

"Oh my god you like the Las Vegas aces? They're the reason why I wanted to start playing basketball in the first place. I used to watch their clips at the library all the time. "

"Oh shit say nomore now I can I have somebody to watch with. Janet just sit there and watch but I know she hates it" we laughed.

"Gray tuff too tho. "

"Oh yeah Chelsea gray? Yeah she dope I think she ranked in top 5 right now if I'm not mistaken." We pulled into the garage.

"What's about your favorite nba player"

"Kareem Abdul"

"Kareem. so you're a lakers fan?"

"Hell nah. It's the Celtics. Best team in the NBA."

"So how Kareem your favorite player but your a Celtics fan shouldn't it be like Jayson Tatum or something?" We got out the car and walked in the house.

"Cause I can do that little girl." We laughed and heard Ms Janet singing in the kitchen.

"What you in here doing sexy?" Toni got behind Ms Janet who was. Standing over the stove.

"Eww you're sweaty. How's was basketball?"

"It was good. Taty fire. My lil one got some potential we got a little bit to work on but she good."

"Oh lord taty you done woke up the beast. Watch when you make the team she gonna be even more tougher." Janet laughed while Toni mushed her head. "You guys go wash up so we can eat dinner."

"Where's Grammy?" That's what I call mama Kat now.

"Oh she went home. But she'll probably be back this week."

"Okay imma gonna go take a shower I'll be back." Walking upstairs I felt so happy I feel like I was finally building something with Toni. Me and Ms Janet already have a little relationship I clung onto her more than my actual birth mother. This is the family I always dreamed about. My wishes finally came true. Nothing can break this up.

It's the last day of tryouts and when the students know if they made it or not. Taty and Sevyn were on the bleachers Waiting for the coaches.

"Taty your phone blowing up." Taty unlocked her phone seeing it was message from a groupchat. It was Janet, Toni, Tamar, Trina, mama e and mama Kat.

"Okay listen up. When we call your name stay seated the rest of you can go home and try again next year."

"Well damn." Sevyn said making taty laugh.

"Okay. So first up we got Braxton" taty got excited and Sevyn hugged her. "Next is brown, Carmichael, Davis, Hamilton, Moore, Murphy, Martinez, Payne , Powell, reed, and Richardson. The rest of y'all I'm sorry but try again next year. " the seven other girls walked out the gymnasium a little upset. "Okay welcome to the team lady bulldogs. I know you guys are tired and wanna go home, so do I so I won't be long. Now we're gonna hand out forms for you and your parents to look over make sure y'all read all of it. " taty was so excited she couldn't hide her smile.

"Now please read you guys rule book. first practice we would go over it. Please bring your packet back SIGNED. " taty text Toni told her she was ready to get picked up. She got an idea to act like she didn't make the team just to play with them.

"Now congratulations lady bulldogs. Welcome to the team." Everybody chatted for a while they waited for their rides. Taty phone dinged it was Janet telling her that they were outside. "Okay see you Sevyn. Congratulations."

"See you taty congratulations." Taty smiled and waved bye. She put on a sad face while walking out the door. Janet, Toni, mama e and mama Kat all sat in car watching taty walk towards them.

"Aw man Toni look at her face." Mama e said. Taty open the car door.

"Hey baby girl " Janet said watching taty climb in the middle.

"Hey" taty made her voice sound like she was sad.

"So how did it go?"

"Um." Taty took a deep breath."I made the team." They cheered while taty smiled. "Gotcha"

"Girl you need to be acting. The way you had me fooled. Congratulations baby."  Mama e hugged her.

"That's what the fuck I'm talking bout tat." Toni said before a pluck to her neck from mama Kat. "My bad. I'm just excited. "

"Okay you wanna go celebrate?" Taty looked down at her phone seeing she had a text from her chat.

"Umm actually I was wondering if I can go to the bowling alley with my friends?"

"Friends who? " Toni asked.

"Cam, Savannah, and Sevyn."

"Which bowling alley?" Janet asked.

"Colonial's."

"Well that's only like 5 minutes away from the house I don't see why not? I mean it is Friday." Janet said. "Well I'm fine with it. Babe?"

"Yeah you can go. I guess we'll celebrate tomorrow."

"Yay. Thank you guys. I actually feel like a real teenager."

Taty was finally done getting ready. She was excited to go out with some friends. She really didn't have any at her other school only girls that were pretending to be her friends but only made fun of her. Taty slipped on a pink Nike sweatsuit with her white Air Force ones. She sat down at her vanity fixing her hair making sure her edges were slicked. After she was done she sprayed on some perfume.

"Taty are you ready?"

"Yes here I come." Taty opened her phone seeing the girls were talking in her chat.

Taty~ I'm leaving now.

Taty grabbed her jacket and walked downstairs. " you look cute." Janet said.

"Thank you. I'm ready. " Toni came walking out her office smoking her blunt.

"Here tat." She handed her couple of twenty's.

"Babe put that out. Tryna make the girl go there smelling like weed."

"Oh shit my bad. See y'all drive safe. Have fun tat call us if you need anything."

"See you Grammy. See you Ma-Ma"

"See you baby. I'll probably be gone bout time you get back." Mama Kat said getting off the couch.

"Yeah me too munchkin."

"Aww man. Well I see y'all later."Taty and Janet walked out and headed to the bowling alley.

"Have fun babygirl and be safe. Call us if you need anything we only around the corner. "

"Okay I'll call you when I'm ready." Taty walked into the bowling alley and saw the whole seventh grade. Sevyn wasn't lying when she said everybody was here.

"Taty" she turned and saw cam and Savannah behind her."here come get your shoes."

"Where's Sevyn?" Taty asked.

"She's in lane 9 with Kai and mason."

The three girls paid for their shoes and headed over to the lane. "Hey guys." Sevyn spoke." I already put our names in."

"Hi new girl" mason spoke. Taty mugged her face.

"Her name ain't new girl. It's Tatyana boy." Cam spoke up.

"Exactly I been at this school almost a month and you still don't know my name."

"My bad. Hey taty"

"So how was tryouts?" Kai asked.

"We made the team."

"Okay lady bulldogs. Congratulations." Kai said. "We don't find out to Monday so hopefully we make the team."

"I don't know yall kinda ass." Cam said making the rest of them laugh.

"Shut up ugly."

"My friend not ugly." Taty said.

"Whatever. Start the game."

After three games of bowling the gang went over to the arcade area.

"Kai back up ugly. Mason take the picture." Mason held the phone up  and took the picture of the group.

"Y'all ugly as hell." Kai joked.

"You don't believe that yourself." Taty sassed. The girls took a couple more pictures with each other.

"Yo yall think if I go outside they gonna let me back in without paying?" Mason asked.

"I don't know they pretty strict on teen night. What you going outside for? " Savannah asked.

"My weed man outside."

"Weed man? Boy your mama know you smoke. "Sevyn asked. "You only thirteen"

"No she don't know that's why I'm getting it here duh."

"Just tell them to come in. If they grown they probably would just think they're a parent or sum."

"Ouu you smart." The group laughed and started playing basketball games.

"Taty you want fried Oreos? " cam asked.

"Yeah." Taty followed cam over to the concession stand.

"Hi can I get two orders of fried Oreos?"

"Sure anything else?"

"Taty you want something to drink?"

"Uh a water." Cam nodded and paid.

"You didn't have to I got money."

"No it's fine I don't mind." The worker handed them their stuff.

"Thank you." The girls walked backed over to the arcade seeing Mason talking to an older man but they only saw his back.

"Damn yall ain't get me no snacks." Mason said causing the older male to turn around. Once taty made eye contact she froze. She couldn't believe her eyes. What was he doing here.

"Well hello Tatyana. Look at you looking just like your mama. Fine."

"Umm how do you know her." Mason asked while the man just smirked. Taty started breathing heavy.

"Uh I gotta go." Taty ran to the bathroom crying. Why was he here. She pulled out her phone and call Janet immediately.

"Hey taty. You ready?"

"Ye-yeah can you come now please." Janet heard her crying and immediately got up.

"Baby what's wrong are you okay?"

"Yes can you just come get me."

"We coming now baby."Taty hung up the phone.

"Taty are you in here?" Taty heard Savanah voice and peeped her head out one of the stalls.

"Oh my god! are you okay. Who was that man?" Cam asked.

"I'm fine. Is he still out there?"

"No. Mason told him to go. Are you sure you okay?"

"Yes. Im just gonna go home."

" okay. We-" Sevyn was cut off.

"Taty baby are you in here. " it was Janet."Oh there you are come on baby. " Janet grabbed taty and walked out the bathroom and was met with an angry toni.

"What the fuck happened. Who did something to you?" Toni said

"Toni calm down."

"Calm down? Look at her face she fucking crying."

"I'll tell yall when we get home. Please don't make a scene." Taty said while looking around seeing people was starting to stare.

Toni nodded and walked out the bowling alley. You can tell she was upset by how fast she drove back home.

"Now what happened taty?" Toni Janet and taty were now seated in the living room.

Taty took a deep breath."well we were in the arcade area and where playing having fun then one of the boys Mason said that his weed man was coming in. He came in while me and cam went to go get some snacks and when I came back he was standing right there."

"Who baby?"

"Damon collins. My mom ex boyfriend. I got so scared I couldn't even say nothing." Toni became even more mad seeing a tear run down taty face. "Then he told me I was fine and smirked at me. "

"Taty has he ever touch you?"

"He would say little sexual things but never acted out on them he only used to hit me if i try to help my mom." Taty voice cracked as she thought back to the nightmares she been through. Janet grabbed her up and hugged her tightly. Janet heart broke hearing taty voice crack.

"I'll be back." Toni said. Janet nodded watching toni grab her keys and leave out. she knew what toni was bout to do.

"Where she going?" Taty asked.

"To make sure he never come near you again.Let's get ready for bed. You can sleep in our bed and we can watch movies and eat some cookies how does that sound?" Janet rubbed her back.

"That's sounds nice. Thank you Ms Janet. You could've left me at that child center but you didn't. So thank you." Janet felt her heart flutter.

"Aww baby you don't have to thank me. " Janet hugged her.

Meanwhile toni was speeding down the highway heading towards her warehouse. Picking up her burner cell she called her boy Jay.

"Yo tone wassup."

"Jay I need you to find out where a nigga name Damon Collins at. He from the southside he a weed man and he used to mess with Tonya brown. I'm on 285 so by time I get to the warehouse I betta have an address."

"Got you boss" Toni hung up the phone and no later than five minutes toni pulled up to the warehouses. Normally the drive would have token 15 minutes but Toni got there in 8.

"Yo what the fuck yall got for me?" They jumped at the sound of Toni voice.

"Okay boss His name is Damon Collin's  he lives on girad ave but he sell on 21st and Franklin ave. Drives a black Honda civic. License plate number AZM9590. What this for boss?" Jay asked.

"Tell you on the way. Let's go. And call man man and tig tell them to go sit at his house. We gonna go on franklin."

Driving through the southside Toni finally pulled up on franklin. She parked two houses down from the corner where he actually sell. "Yo what kinda car this nigga push?"

"A black Honda civic. It's right there so that means he somewhere around here."

"Call man man and em and tell them to come round here."

Jay followed suit and called man man and tig. While waiting Toni decided to call Janet.

"Hey babe." Janet answered quietly.

"Hey what y'all doing? Is she good? "

"Yeah after she got out the shower and ate some cookies she was fine. we were watching a movie but now taty is sleeping under me so I'm just sitting here."

"That girl and them cookies" Toni and Janet chuckled."Okay I'm just checking on yall I'll be home. I love you."

"I love you too be careful please."

"Always."   The couple hung up and by then man man and tig pulled up.

"Yo where this nigga at?"

"I don't know he somewhere around here there go his car."

"Okay. Yall got a picture of what this nigga look like I ain't got time to be killing no innocent by standers." Tig said.

Jay pulled up the picture on his bunner that one of the guys sent him. "There he go right there" Damon walked out of the house and stood in front of his car.

"Y'all know what to do." Toni watched man man and tig approach Damon. Before pulling off she heard five shots.

"Well boss are you gonna tell me what he did? Who is that nigga?"

"A nigga that crossed my family."

"Who? Mama j? "

"Nigga you ask a lot of questions. And no Tatyana."

"Who the hell is Tatyana ?"

"Watch your mouth yo. And my daughter."

"Daughter? What damn daughter"

"Nigga you hard at hearing I said my daughter nigga. And before you asked it was before Janet so don't even think it." 

"Oh I know. Ain't no way you were fumbling that." The guys always jokingly express how fine Janet was. Toni side eyed him. "Sorry. Anyway who her mom." 

"Tonya." Toni didn't mind telling Jay he was like a brother to her.

"Money counter tonya?" Toni nodded. "Damn last I heard she was doped up."

"Yup. She died from an overdose that's how taty came about. I ain't know nothing about her. That's why I'm laying low right now I'm getting this parenting shit in order. And killing that nigga was a must."

"Oh shit mama Toni. Wait are you a mom or a dad?"

"Are you an asshole or a dick? Fuck out my car nigga and make sure them niggas got their tracks covered." Toni dropped Jay back off at warehouse before heading back home.

On the way home she thought to herself. How she really was a parent. Killing for her child. She always said she do anything for her family even if that means burying a block. She thought back to what Jay said would she be a mama or dad. Being that janet lost the baby they never really discuss what would they child call her. That will be something she'll discuss with taty and Janet. But is taty ready to take that step.

Stepping into the house Toni locked up the doors. Seeing all the lights was off she knew taty and Janet was upstairs. Walking upstairs she seen the two fast asleep. She quickly washed up and lotion before slipping on pajamas and hopping into the bed snuggling under Janet. "Goodnight baby."  Janet said

"Goodnight love" she kissed Janet cheek before drifting off to sleep.

This chapter lowkey eat. I'm just ready for this book to take off like southside. I feel like my writing is getting so much better and it's definitely showing in the book.
