Chapter 3

"So, Mount Weather, when do we leave?" Finn asked.

"Right now," Clarke answered.

"Great. Let's go," I jumped in.

"Um, aren't you forgetting something?" Finn questioned.

"What?"

"You're pregnant".

"And?"

"You're like the size of a whale, Brady. You can't possibly think you're coming with us".

"Say that again".

Anger arose in my voice as I clenched my fists. The size of a whale. Really? Like I didn't already feel big enough.

"You think I'm the size of a whale?"

"Okay, the word 'whale' is a bit strong but you get what I'm trying to say. You'll slow us down".

"Listen to me, Finn. Just because I'm pregnant doesn't mean I'm helpless, okay? I am still like any other teenager. I just seem to carry a bit more weight".

"But what if you get tired?"

"Then I'll push through it".

"Brady-"

"Quinn. My name's Quinn".

"Quinn, I just don't want you to force something on yourself that you're not prepared for".

"I'll be fine".

"Quinn-" Clarke started.

"Clarke, I'll be fine. Please just let me help".

"Okay," she said with a small smile.

Clarke then arose from the ground before turning to Wells.

"We'll be back tomorrow with food".

"How are the three of you going to carry enough food for a hundred?" Wells asked.

Finn then turned around and grabbed two people's shoulders before spinning them around.

"Five of us," Finn said.

Surprisingly they were the guys from earlier, though I still didn't know their names. One of them had brown eyes, thick dark brown hair and pale skin. The other had straight black hair, tanned skin with a golden undertone and deep brown eyes.

"Can we go now?"

"Sounds like a party. Make it six," Octavia quickly jumped in.

Bellamy followed after her but luckily, he was too distracted by his sister to notice me.

"What the hell are you doing?" Bellamy asked.

"Going for a walk".

"Hey," Clarke suddenly said. "Were you trying to take this off?" she asked Finn, referring to his wristband.

It was scratched. Of course he had.

"Yeah, so?"

"So this wristband transmits your vital signs to The Ark. Take it off and they'll think you're dead".

"Should I care?"

"Well I don't know, do you want the people you love to think you're dead? Do you want them to follow you down here in two months because they won't if they think we're dying".

Silence occurred for a little while as everyone thought about what she'd said. She was right, obviously. Finn was an idiot.

"Okay. Now let's go".

Everyone walked off except for Octavia until her brother finally gave her permission to go. I followed on behind until I suddenly felt somebody grab my arm. I turned to see it was Bellamy. My heart instantly stopped. Shoot. He had seen me.

"Quinn," Bellamy said. "How are you here?"

"Same way as the other criminals, Bell. I went down in the dropship. Now, if you don't mind, I've got to go".

"Oh no. You're not going anywhere," Bellamy's grip tightened.

"Bellamy, let go".

"Quinn-"

"Now".

He released me from his grip just as Finn came over.

"Is there a problem here?"

"No. No problem whatsoever. Come on. Let's go".

I then slowly walked off with Finn whilst feeling Bellamy's eyes at the back of ny head. Great. Bellamy had seen me. Just great.

~

"So what was that back there?" Finn asked me.

"A guy who doesn't know when to quit. He thinks he can tell everybody what to do. But he can't".

"Glad somebody else knows that. I thought I was the only one".

"Well, you're not".

We were both quiet for a small moment.

"I'm sorry I called you a whale".

"Don't worry about it. You're not the first person, and you defintely won't be the last".

"That must suck".

"Yeah, well, pregnancy will do that to you. But hey, I'm not going to throw myself a pity party. Soon enough, it'll all be over".

"And then you'll get your reward".

"Yeah... I guess".

As we walked through the forest, I looked around me and noticed the beautiful purple flowers and the fine green leaves that surrounded us. It was a beautiful sight to see.

"Great not being in a cell, isn't it?" one of the guys asked me.

"Sure beats the grey," I said in agreement.

"I'm Jasper, and this is my best friend, Monty".

"Quinn".

Finn suddenly picked out a flower and gave it to Octavia before putting in her hair, causing an immediate smile to appear on her face.

"Now that my friend is game," Jasper said to Monty.

I smiled at this comment. Bless them.

"That my friend is Poison Sumac," Monty said.

"It is?" Octavia questioned, pulling it out of her hair.

"The flowers aren't poisonous. They're calming actually," Monty said.

"Hey, guys. Would you try to keep up?" Clarke asked us.

"Come on, Clarke. How do you block all of this out?" Finn asked her.

"Well, it's simple. I wonder, why haven't we seen any animals? Maybe it's because there are none, maybe we've already been exposed to too much radiation to kill us. Sure is pretty though. Come on," Clarke explained before walking off again.

"Someone should slip her some Poison Sumac," Octavia muttered, causing us all to snigger a little before continuing to follow Clarke.

"I got to know what you two did to get yourself busted," Finn said.

"Sumac's not the only herb in the garden, you know what I mean?" Monty questioned.

"Someone forgot to replace what we took," Jasper said.

"So I have to apologize like a thousand times," Monty said.

"How about you, Octavia? What did they get you for?" Jasper asked.

"Being born," Octavia answered before running off over to Clarke.

"Smooth guys," I said before following Octavia's lead.

"That is so not game," I heard Monty say to Jasper.

I continued to walk over to Octavia and Clarke with the guys following before we suddenly saw something beautiful. It was a deer. How did this beautiful creature survive all this?

"No animals huh," Finn said to Clarke.

He then stepped forward before accidentally snapping a twig in half. It took only seconds before the deer was alerted and turned to face us. However, after turning, we saw that the deer was no ordinary deer but a two-headed deer. We were all taken back from this image whilst I felt like I was going to throw up. Keep it together, Quinn. It's just a two-headed deer.

"Do you know what I would like to know?" Finn begun. "Why send us down today after ninety seven years? What changed?"

"Who cares, I'm just glad they did. I woke up rotting in a cell and now I'm spinning in a forest," Octavia said.

"Maybe they found something in the satellite, you know like an old weather satellite or-" Monty said before being interrupted by Clarke.

"It wasn't a satellite. The Ark is dying. With the current population level there is roughly three months left of life support. Maybe four now that we are gone," Clarke said.

"So that was the secret they locked you up to keep? Why they kept you in solitary? Floated your old man," Finn questioned.

"My father was the engineer who discovered the flaw. He thought the people had the right to know. The council disagreed, my mother disagreed, they were afraid it would cause a panic. We were going to go public anyway when Wells-" Clarke paused.

"What? Turned in your dad?" Monty asked.

"Anyway, the guard turned up before we could. That's why today, that's why it was worth the risk even if we all die at least they bought themselves some more time," Clarke said.

"They're going to kill more people, aren't they?" Monty questioned.

"Good. After what they did to me, I say float them all," Octavia said.

"You don't mean that," Jasper said.

"We have to warn them," Finn said to Clarke.

"That's what my father said".

We then all continued walking until we saw Octavia getting ready to swim.

"Aw damn. I love Earth," Jasper said, looking at Octavia as she begun to strip.

Wow. Just wow. How does she have a body like that?

We were all left in awe.

"Octavia, what the hell are you doing?" Clarke asked.

Octavia didn't respond. She just jumped in, ignoring Clarke completely. We immediately dashed after her.

"Octavia we can't swim," Monty said.

"No, but we can stand," Octavia said.

"Wait there's not supposed to be a river here," Clarke pointed out.

"Well, there is so take off your damn clothes," Finn said to her.

Everyone then started to get undressed... except me, obviously. God, being pregnant sucks.

However, all of a sudden, Jasper spotted something in the water.

"Octavia, get out of the water," Jasper said in an ordering voice. "Get out of the water, now!"

But it was too late. Something grabbed her before pulling her under.

"Octavia!" Jasper yelled.

And that's why we don't go swimming.
