Chapter 62: He Is Standing

Mavis' pov

I tucked my hands into the pockets of my black coat as the cool November breeze blew my brown hair from my shoulder. Shinso's talking was soothing while we were walking through the quiet park. The sun was already setting when we were walking, so no kids were around.

I really missed walking. Laying in a bed that was not mine the last 3 days was really shitty. "- It's just really getting the worst out of me. I don't think I will ever get the hang of it..." Shinso said at last, looking to the ground with a frown.

"You are talented Shinso. It really amazes me how you keep trying to get to your goal. I will be proud of you, whatever the result is with your capability with the weapon. But remember that if you don't keep trying, you will regret it afterwards." I glanced at him, before turning my gaze to the sun again.

A park was always my favorite place to be. When I was a kid, I would always go and play there, my parents watching me in the distant while talking with each other. Our picnic already set up. We would have always got ice cream after the hours of sitting and playing.

Now, I would only go on a walk with Shinso through a park. We would sometimes sit down and even get ice cream after that. Talking is what I now do with him. Playing is something that would be a luxury for me.

So I would just gaze at the playground and think about how I would have been playing for hours, would I have still been a child.

"You need to give yourself some credit. You got me keep going." I smiled to myself.

"I'm just trying to get the best out of you. It really makes me happy that you see me as someone worth your company." My white shoes were all of a sudden more interesting than Shinso's eyes, as he looked at me.

"Sometimes I think the same about you. I still can't believe that you talked to me while I was sitting in a park with a cat,"

I shrugged my shoulders, looking at him jokingly with a smile. "You just looked so lonely. I thought you needed someone to talk to, other than the cat in your lap."

He shoved his elbow lightly to my side. "Jerk," I grinned at him and turned my gaze in front of me. The woods weren't far from us anymore. Behind them would be my dormitory where Shinso would drop me off. Even though I told him that I would be fine with walking there myself. Just like the others, he doesn't want me to be alone even for one second. Someone needs to be besides me 24/7.

I just hope this phase will be over soon. "Do you remember how I kicked your ass when we trained one time before the entrance exam of yours?" He groaned, "Don't you mean the time you tortured me for a whole day? That's one of the reasons I won't train with you till I got better." and shot me a glare.

"What do you mean 'tortured'? It was reasonable training and I gave you enough breaks."

"You woke me up at 5am, let me jogg with you for 2 hours, even though my stamina wasn't even enough for 30 minutes-"

"That's why I made it 2 hours."

"You practically dragged me with you." I dismissed him with a wave of my hand.

"What was our school's motto again? Go beyond your capability?"

"It's plus ultra." Shinso corrected me with a shake of his head. "Yeah yeah, whatever. That shit is lame. What I wanted to say-" I stopped talking as I watched how Aizawa speed walked to our dormitories.

"Have you done something to piss him off, today?" Just to be sure, so I won't piss him off further. Shinso shook his head as he watched with me how Aizawa opened one of the exaggerated large doors and went inside.

"Looks like something happened..." I mumbled and the lavender haired boy besides me nodded slowly. "Thanks for walking me back, emo boy." I kissed his cheek and walked to the doors, too. "See ya!" Him waving back at me was the last thing I saw from him, before I closed the door and went inside.

The whole class was downstairs, watching some news, "Don't just say what you want!" so I took my coat off and walked slowly to them, stopping besides Todoroki. "What are you looking at to come up with that, TV?!" It was a pink haired boy, his friends holding him back from jumping at the camera man. "Stop that! It's not the time for it." One of his friends said. "Look at that! The flames are still burning, see?" The camera perspective switched, showing us flames that were dancing in the sky.

Not just some flames... it were Endeavor's flames. "Endeavor is still alive and fighting!" The boy kept pointing to the direction where Endeavor's flames were still visible. "Stop letting something that isn't there get you down!"

"What the fuck is going on..." I mumbled to myself, watching the news intently. It was in the city, no doubt. But what was Endeavor fighting that got the citizens so frightened over their life? Why does this boy need to remind them that Endeavor was still fighting for them out there?

"Right now, who is this man risking his life for our sake? Look!" He screamed at last. A breath escaped my mouth as the camera perspective switched again, answering my question. It was a Nomu.

Endeavor was fighting against a Nomu. And it didn't look good. I teared my eyes from the TV, looking to a stunned Todoroki on my right. So I took his hand in mine and didn't let go. I don't know why, it was like something that felt natural, and Todoroki didn't breake the hold as he looked down at our hands. He spared me a glance and held tighter, before resuming to watch the fight.

"E-Endeavor is fighting. Even as he suffers... and struggles..." Todoroki gritted his teeth, "He is fighting!" and I felt his grip tightening even more, a tiny flame escaping from his hand. I didn't let go, even as I felt the heat for a second. Even though I wanted to keep myself away from them for the time being. My left arm found its way to his, resting on his upper arm.

"Old man... I'm watching." He mumbled. It felt like everything was pausing as Endeavor used his flames to the maximum up in the skies. No one spoke. No one even dared to move as we all watched them both fall down from the sky, wrapped up in flames. They crashed to the ground with a big impact, flames everywhere.

At last, the flames vanished and Endeavor was standing with his right fist up. "Endeavor is standing!" The citizens fell into cheering for Endeavor's win against the Nomu. "He's standing!" The pink haired boy repeated what the reporter said, "Standing... with his fist raised high!"

Todoroki let go of my hand and in the next moment hugged me. Letting out a relieved sigh as he rested his head on my shoulder. I hugged him back, drawing circles with my hand on his back. "A sign of victory—no—of his start!" The dual haired boy let out deep breaths as the reporter kept talking in the background.
