OD - 2 - Beginning

Today was the day. We had just gotten our required rest, and we were ready to restore the balance in a different way. As I prepared, Paps complimented my sparkly purple outfit, which I smiled to; Paps is the best. I wasn't opposed to wearing the seemingly-drowned-in-glitter clothing, but I was going to be relieved when I could wear my old clothes again. I grinned when I entered the living room, finding my family in their color-coded outfits; Killer wore a black one so his determination's dripping wouldn't make obvious stains, Horror wore a red one to match his aesthetic, Cross wore a black and white one to imitate his old outfit but with a red stripe around the waist of his jacket, Error wore a blue and red one, and Nightmare joined me by wearing purple as well. We spoke about the day ahead of us as we waited for the time to reach noon, when opposite day would commence; we hoped that the heroes were playing along, since that would have made it so much more fun! Of course, they did have the option of being stalked at night if they didn't, which probably sealed the deal; we were glad that Killer had suggested that in order to compel them into accepting our proposal.

"How much longer?" Killer stretched boredly.

"Two min'tes." Horror answered, staring at his watch.

"Can we make time go faster?"

"Anti-Void's making time slower right now." Error shook his skull; Nightmare had created a device to see how time was being affected by the Anti-Void at any given point, just in case.

"Aww.."

"D-don't worry, i-it shouldn't take t-too much longer." Cross reassured.

"How much longer now?"

"A minute and a half." I responded, making sure my camera was functioning perfectly for the day ahead.

"Ugh.." Killer slid down the couch in a dramatic fashion, letting his boredom become even more known.

"Is everyone ready?" Nightmare inquired.

"I'm ready." I finished cleaning the lens on my camera.

"Ready." Horror nodded.

"I've been ready!" Killer groaned.

"You're just eager, Killer." Error snickered. "I'm ready."

"I-I'm ready." Cross confirmed.

"Right." Nightmare smiled, turning his attention to his watch.

We all looked to our wrists in anticipation for the minute that we would be able to restore the balance and have fun without being absolutely trampled; that game of AU Chase had ended horribly..Killer had taken all of us us into Underswap once in a "gang up" against him, but it happened that the protectors had been waiting for us to show up. We had been faced with over twenty of the strongest judges just for playing a simple game, and we hadn't been prepared for it in the least; we had been surrounded, and Nightmare had come just in time to keep them from possibly killing us..we weren't allowed to play AU Chase for three months after that incident, and Underswap was off-limits for a year. After that memory played out through my mind, Papyrus wished me luck with the positivity spreading - he was going to do something else for the day - before heading off with Chara; he's the best. Soon enough, our watches simultaneously hit noon, and we entered portals to our first stop: Outertale. We looked up at the stars happily, noticing that the light from them was making our outfits sparkle; okay, that was pretty cool.

"I'm sparkly!" Killer jumped jovially, spinning around in the light.

"I thought black absorbed light.." Nightmare hummed.

"Not this kind; I made it special." Error grinned proudly, looking at his own sparkly outfit.

"I feel like a disco ball." I chuckled, spinning once.

"Sums i' up." Horror agreed, shifting around to see his outfit shine in different places.

"Th-this is amazing!" Cross smiled joyously, joining spinning club.

"Oh my stars.." That sounded like Outertale's Sans; we turned to see him, staring at our outfits incredulously.

"I am the embodiment of glitter!" Killer giggled excitedly; he had been looking forward to this.

"Either I'm dreaming..or this is one weird day.." Outer rubbed his eyesockets, not believing that he was seeing us right.

"It's a weird day." I clarified. "Opposite Day, to be exact. As such, we're dressing up as heroes, and we have outfits for the temporary villains, if they didn't decide to get into the spirit of the holiday." I wanted to see our enemies in those outfits..that would have been glorious.

"How did you get these?!" Outer was stunned by our clothing.

"Custom made." Error smiled calmly. "I know a terrible designer who put these together yesterday; honestly, they're rushed, and I think they should be better.."

"Dude..give credit where it's due!" Outer was shocked that Error would insult the designer like that.

"Yeah, Error!" Killer joined. "Give yourself some credit! You're an awesome designer!"

"I am not!" Error didn't think he was, but we knew he was."You can see the rushed quality!"

"Wait..you made these?!" Outer was starstruck..wait, no, that was his brother.

"More like ruined..it's the little details...always the little details.."

"Huh..Ink always says you can't create things.."

"Well, Ink's a dirty liar."

"Error makes cool stuff all the time!" Killer exclaimed. "Like hats, and gloves, and dolls, and-" Killer was cut off.

"That's enough, Killer." Error facepalmed. "We don't have to talk about my personal life in public.."

"But it's so cool!"

"Maybe this is why we live in seclusion.." Nightmare hummed.

"..." Outer had no words. "You remind me so much of Blue..are you sure you're not related?"

"Actually, Nightmare and Dream would be more related to the little fruit." Error chuckled. "They were made with copies of his body, after all."

"You did not just say that in public." Nightmare deadpanned.

"I just said that in public, and now the world knows!"

"Why would you do that?!" Nightmare collapsed onto the ground in embarrassment.

"I had to change the topic; everyone knowing that you're related to that little psycho is better than everyone knowing that I design clothes in my spare time."

"Do you know what Dream's going to say when he finds out?!" Nightmare groaned. "He's going to say, and I quote, 'One of my friends is actually my dad?! This is so weird! I've gotta tell everyone!'"

"How do you know he'll say those exact words?" Outer was as confused as he could possibly have been.

"I know him..that's all I need..."

"Does this mean that.." Killer's mind was going to very weird places. "He's our..grandfather..?"

Everything was silent for a good five minutes; Outer walked away without a word, and we were left to contemplate life. After a while, Error spoke again.

"At least we're not related to Ink.." He showed the bright side.

"Heh, yeah." I smiled at that. "That would be so weird.."

"So..what do we do now?" Killer wondered.

"Um..make people happy and junk." Error hummed. "Night, how do we do this?"

"Uh.." Nightmare thought. "Okay, we each have different hobbies...um..."

"I can make people happy!" Killer raised his hand.

"Killer?"

"We could be ourselves!"

"Killer..if anybody saw the true us..es..us's? Oh, whatever..if anybody saw the true versions of us, what would they say?"

"They'd say, 'There's a bunch of bad guys tryin' to be good and failin' miserably!'"

"..." Nightmare paused at that. "You know, you might be on to something.."

"Awesome!"

"Where do we begin?" I questioned.

"Perhaps.." Nightmare paused for another moment. "Huh..they're starting early."

"What, you mean they're attacking already?" Error was impressed.

"M-maybe they're t-trying to get it o-over with." Cross input.

"Possibly." Nightmare nodded.

"Error, do ya got those villain costumes?" Killer wanted to make sure.

"Are you kidding?" Error gave a grin; he had them.

"This is going to be wonderful." Nightmare chuckled.

Without hesitation, we went to the universe - wait, they were actually attacking Outertale..huh - that was currently being attacked by the temporary villains, intent on stopping their "senseless evil"! I was looking forward to the sheer absurdity that was going to go on today, and I had my camera ready for everything. When we reached the forest in Outertale, we quickly located our enemies, who were..threatening the population with wooden swords..wow. Well, they weren't the best bad guys..oh well, we would still stop them from..whatever they were doing illegal..disturbing the peace? Sure..that charge sounded about right for random wooden sword attacks. We confronted the "criminals" immediately, receiving mixed reactions to our outfits.

"What in the multiverse is that?!" Ink was about to burst into laughter.

"It's glitter!" Killer stood proud; I took a picture.

"Brother.." Dream had his eyelights fixed on Nightmare. "You..kept it?"

"Kept what?" Nightmare acted oblivious.

"The crown!" Dream seemed so proud of his brother.

"Okay, let me just clear something up. "Nightmare cleared his throat. "First off, I did not keep it: I dug a hole and buried it for several years before deciding that it would be fun to have around to remind me of my wonderful past in which I killed people."

"..." Dream had nothing to say to that. "Oh."

"...You still fall for those, don't you, Dream? Of course I kept the thing!"

"Yay!"

"Why are you using wooden swords?" Error wanted an answer.

"Because we're not bad guys!" The swapped Sans crossed his arms.

"That was kinda the entire point!"

"Well, we're not going to follow all of your silly rules!" The swapped Papyrus glared at us.

"Well, then.." Error pulled out a suitcase, tied our adversaries in his strings, and brought them closer. "We have a solution for that."

"What are you doing?!" Ink struggled in the strings before being hit with a pile of clothes and released.

"Put those on." Error threw clothes at the rest of our enemies. "And take these." Error gave them evil-looking weapons. "And read this." Error handed them a sheet of paper. "Then try again."

"What are these?" Dream looked at his leather jacket suspiciously.

"Just something we prepared in case you didn't want to play along." Error straightened his glasses. "If we are wearing glitter, you're wearing leather."

"But I look bad in leather.." Dream groaned slightly.

"That's..the point.."

"What's this?" Ink looked at the paper confusedly.

"The rules that you will follow. Now, get outta here and try again!" Error sent the villains for a day through a portal and turned to us. "So, where do we start?"

"We could buy all the nice cream!" Killer suggested. "Then give it away for free!"

"Well, that would make people happy." Nightmare admitted. "All right, you and Horror do that..provided you have enough G?"

"Of course we do!" Killer giggled; I knew how much G those two had..it was a miracle that we only had to set aside five storage rooms.

"Very well." Nightmare and the rest of us waved as the duo ran toward the nice cream stand, which had much more variety in Outertale than in most universes. "What about the rest of us?"

"W-we could compliment p-people and offer t-to help them with s-stuff." Cross input.

"All right, you and Dust do that." Nightmare turned to Error. "What should we do?"

"I don't really know how to make adults happy - only children." Error shrugged. "We could set up a game thing."

"All right, let's get on that." Nightmare smiled. "Good luck, you two."

"Thanks, Dad!" Cross and I grinned as the older members of our family went into the town.

"So, wanna make some people really happy?" I looked to my partner.

"A-absolutely!" Cross nodded happily.

And we were off into the town, where we would begin our duties as the protectors of the balance. Honestly, we were hoping that it would be as easy as possible to make people happy, but if it wasn't, we wouldn't argue; we had twenty-four hours, after all! Actually, we were more concerned about the villains for the day; we knew that at least the swap brothers and Dream wouldn't have been very good at it, but Ink truly was a villain..we hoped he didn't catch on to what we were up to. For now, we would just do our jobs and hope for the best.

What was the worst that could happen?
