Chapter 37

Y/n's POV

Just over a week passed as the guild finally got back into its normal routine. There ended up being some trouble with a potion and a few other things, but overall it was nice getting back into regular work. Mama kept complaining about rent while I went on a few jobs by myself, earning some money to use. Wendy and I even contacted each other through some letters, which took forever to come back and forth. When I got back from the latest job, I took I found papa, mama and Happy all sitting at a table in the guildhall. "Hi mama, I'm back." I said, walking into the guild. Everyone waved as mama looked over at me. "Welcome back, sweetie. How was the job?" Mama asked.

"Good, it was a simply deal with some rogue wizards so I managed." I said, sitting down next to her. Sapphire came out of her hiding spot on my back and said hello to everyone. She sat down near Happy and ate some fish that was left out from what Happy was eating. "Natsu and I were just talking about taking on our next job tomorrow. Would you like to come?" Mama asked.

"Sure, sound like fun. Besides, I'm still waiting for something more exciting when it comes to the requests." I said. Papa nodded in agreement with me. "Let's plan on meeting around noon tomorrow." Papa said. Mama nodded before looking out the guild doors. "Something wrong mama?" I asked.

"I don't know. Maybe it's just my imagination. I've felt like someone's been watching me lately." Mama said.

"Well, you know that if anyone tries anything, I'll help you take them down." I said. She smiled and nodded, getting up and putting on her jacket. "Shall we head home and get rested?" Mama asked.

"Yes, please. After all the fighting I did today, I could use some sleep." I said. I got up and picked up Sapphire, resting her on my head while she continued eating the fish she had. "See ya tomorrow papa." I said. He waved as me and mama walked out of the guildhall. On the way home we stopped at a few places grabbing a few extra groceries and snacks for me. The sun had fully set when we were getting close to home. The normal guys on the boat warned mama about falling into the water before mama stopped and looked behind her. When I where she was looking I saw a person wearing some kind of cloak and peeking around a corner looking at us. "Want me to take care of him?" I asked.

"No, let's just get out of here." Mama said. I nodded as we took off jogging towards home. I could easily hear that someone was following behind us. Mama stopped and looked back again before she took off running. Mama stopped once more looking back. I looked back with her and didn't see anyone behind us. "Guess he's gone." Mama said. I heard someone walk up form behind us and quickly spun on my heels ready to punch him. "Wait! Please I just want to speak with Lucy." The person said. I stopped a few inches from his face before looking at mama. The man took off his hood and looked at mama. "Mama do you know who this is?" I asked, stepping back from him. He looked at her completely shocked. "Lucy did she just call you mama?" The man asked.

"Yes she did, Y/n this is my dad." Mama said. I looked him up and down growling quietly. "I have a lovely granddaughter now. That's amazing." He said. He went to hug me which I easily dodged and moved past him. Mama was too stunned to talk as she just looked at him. "It really is you. What are you doing here? And what's with the beard and tattered clothing?" Mama asked.

"Heatfelia Railways was recently bought out from under me. Which means I've lost everything I own. The company, the estate, and all my money." He said.

"Are you serious?" Mama asked.

"I'm afraid so, I put up my entire fortune as collateral. I spent all thoise years working my tail off making that buisness successful and this is the thanks I get." He said.

"The house? No, what about mom's grave?" Mama asked.

"Don't worry I had it moved here." He said, handing mama a piece of paper. Mama took it as he just looked at her. "I would be completely heart broken if I didn't find it so funny. To think that so much wealth could disappear in the blink of an eye. All my years of work were ruin in a span of a single evening. It went up in smoke. I pushed my own family aside for that fortune and now it's gone. Isn't that ridiculous." He said, laughing a little.

"Now I see why mama left her home." I said.

"Why did you come here, father?" Mama asked.

"I just wanted to see my precious daughter again. And now I've even learned I have a granddaughter." He said.

"But why now? After what happened. You better not have come here to mess with Fairy Tail cause I warned you not to." Mama asked.

"I don't have the power to mess with anyone anymore, my dear. Honestly I only came here so I could see you." He said. Mama just looked at him before looking away. "Please don't give me that look. I'm truly sorry about the way I treated you when you came to see me. I won't be here long, I'm just passing through on my way to Alcalypha. I'm going to work at the merchant's guild there. I've decided I'm going to start over again." He said.

"Alcalypha?" Mama asked.

"Yes it's just a few towns west of here." He said.

"Oh." Mama said, with a small smile.

"I do have a small favor to ask. I need money in order to pay for my travels." He said. I growled and glared at him reaching to grab him so I could throw him in the water. "Y/n stop." Mama said. I quickly stopped at looked at her. She was completely shocked as he looked back at me. "All I need is 100,00 jewel." He said.

"Father I'm really sorry, but I don't have that kind of money." Mama said.

"Are you kidding? A measly 100,000? You're my daughter the least you could do is lend it to me. I need it to start over." He said.

"I'm sorry, but I don't have it." Mama said.

"I need money, I'm swallowing my pride and begging you for it. Don't let me down Lucy. Help me out just once and I'll never ask you again." He said. Mama was clearly getting nervous about it as I reached up and grabbed his cloak. "You're kidding right? You clearly haven't learned anything after losing what you made. Mama and I work hard just to make sure we each survive." I said, dragging him down to look at me.

"She's right, you can beg all you want. It won't do any good." Mama said.

"How could you deny me? After all I've spent on you?" He shouted. Mama swung her arm out in front of herself getting him to quiet down. I let go of him and let me look at mama. "I never ever asked you for money. There's one thing about money you never figured out. It can buy you everything but happiness." Mama said.

"Lucy!" He shouted, stepping towards mama. I stepped between him and her blocking him. "Go away!" Mama said, pushing past him and running home.

"How could she do this to me?" He asked, watching her run off.

"Think about what you did. You treated her like nothing more than an object. She has every right to be upset with you. When I learned about you from her I held nothing but hate for you. Mama's been working so hard to make sure I could live my childhood freely without any kind of issue that you gave her." I said.

"She just doesn't understand, I'd pay her back." He said.

"She doesn't care about that. You broke her heart and now you're paying the consequence of that." I said. He looked at me as I walked past him following after mama. "Could you help me? I am your grandfather after all." He asked.

"No way. The pain you've put me and mama through is over with. I broke down when I found out she headed home to confront you. She left me like someone else did before and they never returned. I'm lucky to have mama here now imagine what could've happened to me if mama hadn't returned from meeting with you." I said, stopping. I looked back at him seeing shock on his face. "If you want to learn how to gain her trust back, think about it as you walk to Alcalypha." I said, continuing to walk after mama. When I caught up to her I saw her talking with papa and Happy. She was still upset about it before papa jumped over a building on the river landing on Gray. Papa and Gray started fighting while mama complained about them. We finally got to bed before the next day where we met everyone in the guildhall. While we were preparing for our next job I heard Wakaba and Macao talking about the merchant guild in Alcalypha. Mama looked over at them before reacting to it. I could see that she was concerned about her dad debating on whether or not to go help him. I grabbed her hand and looked at her. "Let's go." I said.

"Yeah!" Mama said. We left everyone else behind and headed towards Alcalypha. We quickly made it there and saw a crowd gathering outside the guild. We were at the back of the group before we rushed through and tried to get past the guards. Mama was kicked back twice before looking at the ground trying to figure a way into the guild. She summoned Virgo and they discussed how to get in. Virgo was concerned that mama and I wouldn't be able to handle the dark wizards inside. We made our way inside and there were a bunch of wizards with magical weapons and people tied up. One of the wizards pointed his weapon at the hostages before firing. I jumped out and used my Aqua Shield to protect the hostages from the attack. Mama summoned Taurus which shocked all the wizards. "Funs over boys." Mama said.

"Go get them mama!" I cheered. She gave me a thumbs up summoning more spirits. She easily defeated the wizards before taking the last one out with a kick to the head. Everyone was shocked to see her last attack while Cancer and I cut everyone free. The knights charged in and started arresting the dark wizards before the hostages went up and thanked mama. They all complimented her while she looked around for her dad. I sniffed the air not smelling him or anything. We left the guildhall and headed outside, she still looked around for him clearly worried. "He wasn't here mama." I said.

"You're sure?" Mama asked. I nodded.

"Who wasn't here, Y/n?" Someone asked. I looked behind me and saw mama's dad standing there with a bag over his shoulder. "No, don't tell me you just made it into town." Mama said.

"Yes, it took me a while to get here. I didn't have any money so I had to walk." He explained. Mama was clearly upset about him asking for so much money for traveling here. "What are you two doing in Alcalypha?" He asked.

"Mama was worried about you. We heard that a Dark Wizard guild took over the merchant guild and she wanted to come make sure you were safe." I explained. He looked around and saw what was going on. "You came all this way because you were worried about me?" He asked.

"It doesn't matter. Well, see ya." Mama said, turning to leave. I looked at him gesturing to talk with her. He nodded and turned to her. "It does matter, thank you Lucy." He said.

"Let's get one thing straight. Just cause I was worried about you, doesn't mean I've forgiven you okay?" Mama said, stopping in her tracks.

"Right, I know that. Cant say I blame you. The walk here from Magnolia was a long one, I found myself with plenty of time to think about my actions. I'm sorry about the way I acted yesterday. I wasn't in my right mind. I wish I could take back everything I said. I really do, I promise you I'm going to change. I managed to make it here without any money at all. I'm learning to live my life without it." He said. He brought up about how the guild brought up memories and how it was the first place he met mama's mom. Mama stopped again while he looked at the ground. He explained what happened when he left and how mama got her name. "give me a break, what kind of parents name their kid after a broken sign?" Mama asked.

"Well I suppose not the best parents. You know I'm so glad you came here. I finally got to meet the plain old Lucy you told me about along with my granddaughter who helped me find the right path." He said. While we stood there the ground started shaking as papa, Happy, Gray and big sis showed up. They talked with mama while I stood next to mama's dad. "Take care of yourself dad." Mama said, walking away.

"Thank you for setting me on the right path." He said.

"You're welcome, grandpa." I said. I gave him a quick side hug before running to catch up to the others. Once I caught up I turned and waved at him receiving a wave back.
