Chapter Twenty-Six

Song for this chapter: Go fuck yourself - Two Feet

"Do I have to be here?" I whined, while tugging on the end of my itchy sweater. The black wool was already starting to irritate my skin and in retrospect I should have put on an under shirt to protect my sensitive skin.

"Yes," Nate groaned for the millionth time. The annoyance of my repeated question grew on his tongue. Instead he extended his hand out for me to grasp onto.

I took his hand into mine quickly, allowing his touch to absorb that anxiety that was coursing through out my chest. If their was anything that set my anxiety on edge it was spending time with Cal Jacobs.

"I hate wearing all this itchy clothing, I'd rather be at home naked," I pouted.

Nate sighed, "Please just behave. This is a huge deal with my family."

"Fine," I huffed. "But tomorrow we are going for tacos."

"Brat," Nate chuckled.

"Tacos and a movie night," I chimed with a wide smile.

"Deal. Just behave," Nate spoke while his lips curved into half smile. I could only imagine the amusement that he was getting from my childish behavior.

The carnival was huge and it felt like forever before we had even reached the Jacob's chili stand. The night was going by extremely slow. Nate and Cal stood at the front of the booth filling the chili cups and handing them to everyone that came to the booth. Marsha was wearing a beautiful grey sweater with a baseball cap on her head. Her shoulder length hair was in tight curls. The smile that radiated off her lips tonight was contagious. I couldn't stop wipe away the grin on my face.

"Sorry I'm late," A dark haired boy panted as he stepped inside of the booth.

I recognized him from the family photos that lines the walls of the Jacobs home. He looked very similar to Nate but much older. With brown stubble on his chin and a short hair cut. Both of the boys were such a printed copy of both Cal and Marsha. Though I do think there was another little boy in the photo albums.

"Aaron this is my girlfreind, Lily," Nate spoke sternly, gesturing between Aaron and me with the Chili ladle in hand.

"Nice to meet you," Aaron smiled, while extending out his hand.

I cocked my head in confusion for a moment before realizing that he was was suggesting a handshake. I followed his hand movement and watched as he shook my hand before spinning around and wrapping an apron around his waist to avoid any spills on his clothing that looked very expensive.

Nate and his family were very proper in public settings. I couldn't help but wonder if Aaron was just as fucked up as Cal and Nate.

"Lily, would you help me unwrap all these soup bowls?" Marsha asked politely with a smile.

I stepped quickly beside her and began to tear the plastic off the paper bowls. Each stake had 6 bowls, which was mildly inconvenient. I carried on opening the stakes of bowls as Cal and Nate needed them. Marsha and Aaron chatted away with customers and a few people who lingered around the booth, they must have been freinds.

"Can I get one chili," Jules stuttered out, standing in front of Cal.

I couldn't help but look up and stare at the anxious girl. Nate looked back at me with a bored expression on his face, but I couldn't stop the vile the rose in my throat. And the disgusting images that flashed through my mind. Cal poured chili into a bowl with a shaky hand and before Jules could take it from him, he dropped it down on the ground. Way to act nonchalantly.

"It's okay," Jules muttered, turning her attention behind her.

My eyes followed to were she was looking to see Rue hiding between two trailers watching the cringe worthy exchange happen. Rue knows.

The rest of the night was dull fully boring and now it was time for the naming of the Chili winner. Which the Jacob family already knew they would be winning.

"And this years Chili winner goes to the Jacob family," The announcer shouted, while the crowd of people began to clap.

The stood beside Nate, with his hand wrapped around my hip to hold me closer to him. Everyone smiled while the photos were being taken. The distinctive sound of slow claps adverted everyone's attention. My eyes followed the crowds to see Maddy standing in a very exposing purple outfit. Nate's entire body stiffened beside me. This wasn't going to be good.

"I'm not supposed to be here because apparently you all don't like me but you all like this whore so much better," Maddy spat while he stepped closer to the booth.

"Maddy get out of here," Nate warned.

Just as Nate finished speaking Maddy licked her lips and pushed the entire pot of Chili off the burner. The pot hit the ground spray what was left of the chili on the ground and all over of my blue jeans and shoes.

"What in gods name is your problem," Marsha griped. Looking up from the mess on the ground to the smug look on Maddy's face.

"You cunt," Maddy hissed, "And this fucking bitch thinking she's better then everyone else."

Maddy looked in my direction. But she wasn't going to bait me into a fight with her while everyone was watching. What an embarrassing act of jealousy. Nate pulled his arm away from and and stepped out of the booth. I watched as he dragged her by the arm away from the crowd. A large part of me was pissed off that he would even disappear with her. He should have just left her to embarrass herself some more.

"What a miserable bitch," Marsha muttered under breath.

She picked up a towel off the table and scurried towards me. She bent down and attempted to scrub some of the chili off my pants.

"It's okay Marsha really, I will just throw them in the wash when I get home tonight," I smiled pulled the towel from her hand.

"Are you sure dear? It's our fault that happened," Marsha said while she stood up picking up the pot that was on the ground.

"It's perfectly okay. If you don't mind I am gonna find Nate."

"Of course sweetheart," Marsha smiled.

I walked towards the direction that Nate had pulled Maddy away too. I walked past the trailers, looking down each row hoping that they would be somewhere close. Until I looked down the last trailer and caught a glimpse of Nate pressed up against Maddy. There lips were pressed together and her cheeks were stained with tears.

"What the fuck," I hissed, causing both of them to jump apart.

Maddy looked up at me with bloodshot eyes. Tears glistened off her cheeks and the marks on her neck were very noticeable.

"We'll talk about this later," Nate grumbled.

"Talk about this later?" I repeated in a pissed off tone, "Are you fucking stupid Nate Jacobs. You can't just go around fucking choking girls when they piss you off. Do you even think about your fucking actions before you do them."

Maddy sobbed beside him, her entire body was shaking with adrenaline and fear.

"You aren't pissed I kiss her?" Nate questioned, furrowing her eyebrows.

"Oh, trust me Nate. I am fucking livid. But there is a high priority of things to worry about right now. You could go to fucking jail if she tells anyone," I spat.

"I won't tell anyone," Maddy stuttered. "I promise. I won't tell anyone."

"Good. If you do. I will do a hell of a lot worse then fucking choke you," I spoke calmly, " You made a huge mistake tonight Maddy. You think Nate can be scary. You ruined my outfit and you disrespected Marsha."

"Lily, enough," Nate warned.

"Shut the fuck up," I shouted, "Go home Maddy. And if you tell anyone I swear to god it will be the last time you talk."

I watched silently as she walked away holding her throat in her hands. What a fucking mess.

"And you. I can't even begin to express how fucking angry I am with you," I muttered, looking up at Nate. "Of all the stupid shit you could have done this takes the fucking cake."

"Whatever," Nate groaned. "Let's get out of here."

"No. You can go home. You can go to bed alone and think about how dumb you," I stepped forward, flicking Nate in the head. "I don't want to be around you right now. And you better hope to fuck that you don't get thrown in jail. So if I were you I'd start thinking of a plan."
