Education: Hunting

*i personally know a little more about hunting then the average joe, my family hunts and I had gotten my hunting license 4 months before going vegan.* ~Karley, Author.

Hunting is believed to be so terrible, a lot of people are against hunting... But a lot of these people forget how the meat on their plate ended up there.

Of course their meat wasn't wild and it didn't really have much of a life before getting killed, which to me is confusing because wouldn't that make hunting better? Everyone is so gung-ho on buying cage free, free range, organic animal products even though that's a bunch of lies to make you feel better, but let's say it's true just for a Minuit... Your offering more freedom, no hormones& antibiotics ... Wild animals that are hunted have that. 95% of store bought meat/eggs/dairy came from a factory farm where these animals didn't have freedom, and they were injected with hormones and antibiotics. But I'm in no way pro hunting, I recognize it is better than factory farming but it's in no way the best option. Veganism is.

What's the difference between this wild partridge? And the chicken from the grocery store? Besides how they were treated before death> nothing. They are both birds, both died to be put on your plate when they didn't need to be. It doesn't matter if they were free range or caged, or if they were injected with hormones at the end of the day they both wanted to live and were killed when they didn't need to be.

Now back to hunting... There is many arguments hunters use against Veganism, I'm going to address these below.

It's natural, other animals hunt.
Yes other animals hunt, for survival not to mention their bodies are designed differently then ours.

Lions need to eat meat. We do not. Sure we can, but that doesn't mean we should... Especially when humans are able to recognize the pain we are causing animals, the disease we are causing in our bodies and the destruction we are causing to the planet. Just because a wild animal eats meat doesn't justify why we should. Why is it we only judge our behaviour in regards to food when taking about wild animals. Lions also lick their balls... Dogs roll in dead animals and poop... Shouldn't we also? They do so we should too... Right? Haha I sure hope not.

Inuits have to eat meat/ hunt up north
Inuits don't have the same access to foods as YOU, they do have fruits/veggies up there most are canned+frozen, the fresh foods they get are extremely overpriced. They have access to shipped rice, pasta, and beans and they will always be far cheaper then fruits and vegetables. But many Inuits don't have jobs or good paying jobs at that and still can't afford to buy very much food. Communities are tightly knit up there, everyone relies on each other for help. They hunt together and often times prepare food together, foods can be traded as well. Say your neighbor got a moose but you only got a seal, the meat could be split so that you don't have to live off just one animal for months on end. Inuits are eating meat to survive, they need the fat/proteins in the meat to keep them alive because without it they would starve with the lack of plantbased foods available. But that doesn't mean it's healthier...

I use every part of the animal I hunt
1) you are not everyone, not everyone uses up all of the animal. I've heard of hunters just keeping the rack and letting all the meat go to waste just because they are trophy hunters.
2) it doesn't matter if you use up all of the animal, it's still a waste. That animal was killed when it didn't need to be, you do not NEED to eat it's body or secretions. Plants are always a better option for health, for ethics and for the environment.

Hunters control the population
Actually predators control the population and if farmers/trappers/hunters didn't kill them to protect livestock then there wouldn't be over population issues.

These natural predators are a major part of natural selection, they kill the weak, the sick, the young, the old. Without this evolution will halt because there won't be favorable genetics for better survival.

The reason the deer population rises is because the lack of natural predators. Yes if there is not enough food to sustain the deer population all of them will starve so it's better a few die so the rest can have full bellies. But it's not the hunters job to kill a few deer, it should be and is the natural predators job.

They don't even feel it
The gun shot or bow isn't always a one shot deal. Sometimes it takes a few shots, sometimes the animal gets wounded and your supposed to hunt it down and finish it off. But say it is a one shot deal... How do you know that animal is not feeling pain? How do you know that animal didn't see it coming? You try being hunted and come back to me please. Even if the animal didn't feel pain why kill it in the first place? It's unneeded you don't NEED it for survival. Your killing for pure enjoyment.

Although your not causing as much harm as factory farming you are still causing damage when it doesn't need to be caused.
