chapter 7 | weekends

"REMEMBER, YOU CAN'T GO OUT, YOU HAVE TO BABYSIT LUCAS." Marcelina told her redhead daughter and she nodded before leaving the house with her husband and closed the door. Olivia let out a deep sigh and looked over at her little brother playing with his toys.

She didn't get it. Why can't Lydia babysit him? She always does. Her parents decided that they give Lydia a rest from babysitting all the time and let Olivia babysit for a week and then going back to the normal routine with Lydia babysitting. It was all so confusing to Olivia.

Her parents made a deal with Olivia to babysit Lucas on Friday's starting next week and they would give her $10 each time and she agreed to do it.

She went to the kitchen and started making herself some Mac and cheese for lunch. She turned on the stove and waited for the water to boil. There was a sudden knock on the door which made her flinch slightly.

She walked over and looked into the small hole and saw Alex. She giggled slightly at his large forehead that was formed through the peep hole.

Alex figured out what she was doing and moved closer to it and made a funny face causing her to laugh and opened the door. He was holding a basket in his hands filled with different flavoured cookies.

"Alex!" She squealed and engulfed him into a tight hug causing him to chuckle and wrap his arms around her waist and kiss her forehead.
"What are you doing here?"

"Well, I knew you had to babysit Lucas so I decided to come and see you two. And me and abuelita made cookies for you guys." Alex softly smiled.  As Livi was about to let him in, he walked into the apartment himself and placed the cookies on the table.

"Come in I guess." Olivia mumbled sarcastically and went back to the kitchen with Alex following behind. He went to the fridge and grabbed a water bottle before turning on the tv. Alex practically lived in the Jones family and he came to their apartment almost every day but not as much as Livi going to theirs.

After Olivia was done cooking her food, she grabbed a soda from the fridge and sat at the big white couch beside Alex as the two watched Harry Potter for the whole day until they fell asleep on top of each other.

Olivia woke up and looked over and saw that Alex was gone. She sat up and groaned as she rubbed her eyes. She had took Lucas to bed a few hours ago before the two pre-teens slept on the couch. The Harry Potter movie was still playing in the background. She turned it off and looked at the clock on the wall showing 2.39 am.

She walked into Lucas' room and saw he was sound asleep. She went over an gave a light kiss on his forehead before going back to her room which was in front of her parents one's. The door was slightly opened and saw the married couple sleeping peacefully on their bed as Thomas wrapped his arms around Marcelina waist. Olivia slightly smiled at them before walking over to her bed and turning off the lights before putting on the covers and going back to sleep.

She stared at her white coloured ceiling and sighed deeply. She closed her eyes and drifted off into a deep slumber.

The next morning, Olivia woke up as the bright sunlight shined on her face making her groan. She looked over at her small pink alarm clock seeing it was 10.20 am. Marcelina and Thomas had a day off from work since it was the weekends which meant Olivia could go to the Alvarez apartment again after a whole week of babysitting.

She opened the door and walked in with a big smile on her face.

"Hello, Alvarez! I'm back." Olivia yelled out as she closed the door. She saw Lydia and Penelope talking as they turned around and saw the redhead and a smile formed on their faces.

"Ay, pelliroja you finally came back. But I'm not happy with your parents anymore because I can't spend time with my other papito." Lydia huffed causing Olivia to laugh.

"Don't worry. You can see Lucas again tomorrow. My parents just hired me to babysit Lucas on Friday's so it's fine." Olivia said as she went to Alex's room after she hugged Penelope.

"ALEX!" The red head squealed as she busted the door open causing Alex to scream like a girl. "Why do you scream like a girl?" She laughed.

"You scared me!" Alex exclaimed as Olivia sat beside him. "Anyways, thank god you can come over. I've been so bored during these days. I even stared reading books..like who am I anymore?!" He groaned in frustration.

"It's fine. I only have to babysit him on Fridays now. They offered to pay me $10 every time i babysit. Looks like im gonna be rich." Olivia smirked.

"Ugh, Lucky!" Alex groaned. "Anyways, Finn and some other guys are going bowling, or the miniature golf, or the arcade...I don't know where but do you wanna come?"

"Sure. Is it okay if I bring the girls? I really don't want to be the only girl there." Olivia gulped.

"Alright. I'm sure the boys won't mind." Alex smiled. "Alright come on let's tell my mom." Alex grabbed Olivia's hand and dragged her out of his room as they walked over to where everyone was.

Everyone was staring at them causing the two teens to look at each other with a confused look. "Are we in trouble?" They said in unison.

"No. We're...we're just thinking.." Penelope stuttered. They grew even more confused.

"Well, when you're done thinking, can I have a 100 dollars?" Alex asked.

"What?"

"I don't know. I need money for tonight because me, Olivia and our friends are going bowling. Or miniature golf. Or to the arcade. I don't know just give me a 100 dollars!" Alex exclaimed.

"Uh okay. First of all, does Livi's parents know? Second, you need a plan. Third of all, I need to approve the plan. Fourth of all, a 100 bucks? that was funny." Penelope chuckled thinking it was a joke as she kissed Alex's cheek.

"Stupid Finn keeps changing his mind." Olivia said as she rolled her eyes at the mention of Finn. She never really liked that boy. He was always so bossy and thinks that he's so cool and stuff. He once tried to ask Olivia out but she rejected him and everyone laughed at him.

"Exactly! First he invited Joaquin . Then he has to invite Jade because he invite Joaquin. Then she wants to bring Juju and Casey and Maddie." Alex exclaimed as he grabbed Olivia's hand and dragged her into his room.

"I don't know any of these people, we need to talk more!" Penelope yelled out.

Alex was in his room while Penelope, Elena and Lydia were talking on the couch. He was waiting for Olivia to come since she was helping her parents to clean up the house. He heard Penelope and Lydia talking and couldn't help but eavesdrop in the conversation.

"Yeah, I'm not gonna see him again." Penelope said.

"See who?" Alex questioned as he walked up to them.

"You didn't wanna give me a heads up that Alex was here?" Penelope looked over at Lydia with a look.

"Heads-up, Alex is here."

"Wait, why are you wearing abuelitas lipstick?" Alex furrowed his brows as he sat at the end of the couch.

"Why do you know that?" Penelope asked, shocked.

"It's scarlet sunrise. Duh!"  He mocked lydia. "And why are you all dressed up?"

Penelope then told everyone to get out from the room so that she could talk to Alex about her date.

"What happen to your face?" She scanned his face once she saw a bruise on it.

"What happened to your face?" Alex said back but immediately regretted his choice of words. "I-I'm sorry, I was hanging out with my friends, it's hard to turn it off. Anyway, stupid Finn pushed me in a bush and I got scratched."

"Ugh, why do you like that kid again? He seems like a-"

"Like a dick." Alex finished.

"Yes, but that's not okay that you said that. Anyway, I wanted to be straight with you. Tonight I had a date. Wait, just listen..." Penelope then told the whole story to Alex as he furrowed his brows.

"You walked out?"

"I don't want those gossiping hens to hear. But yes...no one has asked me what I wanted in a long time. And I realised, what I wanted wasn't a date." Penelope sighed.

"Then what did you want?" Alex asked.

"A crappy chick flick by myself and a fro-yo with three too many toppings. The kind that I make you, Olivia and elena split."

"Aw, man!" Alex groaned.

"Anyways, I sent the guy a text apologising but I want abuelita to think that I went out with him so the next time I don't get the third anymore." Penelope explained.

"Next time?" Alex said and she nodded.

"I'm pretty sure there's going to be a next time at some point. Are you okay with that?"

"Yeah I mean, I figured you would. After all, women in their late 30's are in their sexual prime." Alex smirked causing Penelope to groan.

"Stop talking to your sister!" Penelope argued.

"Tell her to stop talking to me!" Alex argued back. "Anyway, dating is super weird."

"I know! Why do you know?"

"My dumb friends have been trying to get me and this girl, Anna together. So what happened tonight was, Finn made a plan. Then everybody bailed on purpose, so Anna and I could be alone." Alex explained and Penelope nodded, listening to everything he was saying.

"I mean, Anna is pretty and all but I don't like her that way."

"Hmm, what do you mean 'that way'? Do you like someone else?" Penelope smirked.

"Actually yeah, I do. But you promise not to tell anyone mom!" Alex told his mother causing her to put her arms up in surrender.

"Okay so, I kinda have a crush on Livi. I mean, I don't know if i like her or if i dont like her.. its all just.. so confusing. Like when I see her smile or laugh, it makes me happy to see her like that and I have this weird feeling in my stomach that I just can't really describe. But I don't know if i actually do have feelings for her or not. Its really confusing. " Alex sighed, looking at his mother to see her smiling.

"Hey, it's okay. I'm sure Olivia likes you too. I know she does. She always talks about you to me and says the most random things even god knows what that girl likes to talk about! But even if she doesn't feel the same way, I just want you to know that you'll still have to be a good friend and be there for her no matter what alright? You have to respect her decision." Penelope said as she pulled Alex into a hug.

"Yeah, thanks mom." Alex smiled.

"Anything else you wanna talk to me about?"

"Well I kind of lied to you." Alex smiled awkwardly.

"Oh god, what is it? Did you steal something? Damage something? Did you pee on something because you were mad and then later you were like 'I shouldn't have done that?!'" Penelope worriedly said.

"No! Who does that?! Anyways, this ain't because Finn pushed me into a bush. I tried to shave." Alex said.

"Oh god. It's really happening." Penelope said.

Just as she was about to say something else, the door busted open revealing Olivia with the same basket in her hands that Alex brought to her the other day but this time it was filled with pies.

"Hey! I'm back. Sorry I took so long. Lucas was constantly screaming and crying and my ears were about to bleed. But anyways, my mom baked you guys a pie!" Olivia said as fast as she could as she tried to catch her breath.

"Why are you guys staring at me like that?" She furrowed her brows once she noticed that the two were staring at her with slight smile on their faces.

"Uhm, okay, anyways I'm gonna go to your room, bye." Olivia said as she went to Alex's room.

Alex was looking at her the whole time, admiring his best friend and wondered how lucky he was to have her. That's when he realised he really loves her and would do anything for the girl.
