chapter 22 | working hard

"HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE THIS SHOES?" Alex questioned the redhead who was playing a video game with Schneider and Elena, pointing towards his new sneakers that Lydia bought for him.

"I didn't say, I didn't like it. It's just..what's the point of buying new pairs when you already have a lot of other ones?" Olivia stated , making him gasp dramatically. Olivia rolled her eyes at him before turning her attention back on her video game.

"Abuelita, take a picture for my Insta. I'm gonna stare this way so it doesn't look like I know you're doing it." Alex said. Olivia and Elena looked at Alex with judged eyes and started laughing.

"Could you guys stop? I'm trying to look good here." Alex huffed, taking out his shoe and putting it next to his ear as Lydia took a photo. "Oh honey, when do you ever looked good?" Elena joked, clapping Olivia's hands as they both laughed out loud.

Just then, Penelope came out of the kitchen upon seeing Alex with his shoe next to his ear. "What's going on south of your ankles, buddy? Aren't those the expensive sneakers that I said you couldn't have?"

Olivia turned her attention back on the video game, not wanting to hear the lecture that Penelope was about to give Alex.

"Ooh, Liv I'm beating you!" Schneider said. "Oh yeah?" Olivia said as she took one final hit, and the game ended, revealing that she won.

"Dang it!" Schneider groaned causing her to laugh. Olivia got up from the couch and went over beside Alex, linking her arm with his.

"Scott and lori are on vacation. And Doctor Berkowitz needs somebody in the office to help with filing." Penelope said, pointing towards Alex.

"Oh..but if he goes to work with you, I barely get to see him." Lydia pouted, hugging Alex.

"Yeah I'm okay with that." Penelope cringed. "Same here." Olivia huffed.

"You are just jealous that my papito is giving me more attention than you." Lydia joked causing Olivia to raise her brows and rolling her eyes jokingly.

"You start tomorrow." Penelope said. "You're so unfair!" Alex groaned, walking off to his room.

"I'm just kidding, pelliroja. You can get him all you want." Lydia smirked, making Olivia cringe in disgust and walked off behind Alex.

Olivia stayed back at the Alvarez apartment to help Elena on her Twitch live while waiting for Alex to come back from work.

"This is Blanquita16, and we are about to get started playing in VR mode. I have my friend, Livi here to be recording the video for us." Elena said to the camera as Olivia went in front of it and waved before going back.

"So as you can see the graphics are amazing. That 4K is really working it's magic." She continued.

"Schneider the intern checking in." Schneider said, looking at the camera as Elena pulled him back. "Sorry, sorry. I just wanna say, it's a real honor playing as a woman." He said, looking down.

Olivia gagged in disgust and rolled her eyes.
"Schneider, stop it!" The redhead scolded. "I'm trying. How are woman not distracted all day?" He said.

"I cannot believe you two. Talking to peoples who aren't even there. Can you believe this Berto?" Lydia scoffed.

"Anyway, we're about to battle but first, let's check out those lifelike reflections on the floor." Elena said. Schneider and Elena looked down on the floor until she started doing some weird fighting movements.
"But I'm a lady!"

Just then, Alex and Penelope came in the house, looking flabbergasted as ever.

"Oh thank god you guys are here, I can't take this anymore!" Olivia huffed.

"What the hell is going on?" Penelope exclaimed. "I'm working mom!" Elena replied.

"Olivia, tell my third stepmother I loved her! Not the second one though. She was kind of a jerk!" Schneider exclaimed.

Olivia looked at him weirdly as she went over to Lydia and sat beside her, resting her head on her shoulder. "Ay, Ay pelliroja, come. Your boyfriend's sister is crazy." Lydia said.

"Your granddaughter is crazy." Olivia replied back and they both laughed.

"Okay guys, subscribe to my channel. This is Blanquita16 signing off. Peace in the real world, chaos everywhere else. Adios!" Elena said, waving to the camera.

Lydia and Olivia both waved to the camera as well. Olivia got up from the couch and went over to Alex. He smiled at her, draping his arm around her shoulder.

"Oh I'm sorry. This is obviously work. It's like watching a business class at Harvard." Penelope scoffed.

"It's going great. I'm up to over 100 subscribers." Elena said proudly.

"Yeah, Elena is legit. She's gonna be a mogul, have an entourage, probably a jet." Schneider said.

"Mogul, entourage, jet? Those are my things!" Alex whined like a child. Olivia rolled her eyes at his childish behaviour.

"Elena, give papito back his things!" Lydia scolded making Elena sigh in annoyance.

"She's been working really hard at this. I'm so inspired. Makes me wanna get a job." Schneider said.

"I thought u had a job?" Olivia asked. "No, this is just an internship." Schneider assured.

"Fix the lights!" Penelope exclaimed. "I'll call butch." Schneider mumbled. "Whatever! Look Elena, I'm glad this is going well. But how much money have you made?"

"Seven thousand-"

"Wait really?!" Olivia beamed.

"Magic pebbles, redeemable for virtual stickers..." Elena continued making the redhead mutter an 'oh'.

"Elena, a real job is much more.."

Before Penelope could continue, Alex interrupted. "Boring!" Olivia smacked him on the arm causing him to yelp.

"Papito, no. You just came on the wrong day. It's usually much more exciting. Like the other day, the guy came in with a rash that looked like a smiley face." Penelope joked, hoping Alex would laugh but his face was blank.

"I think I'm just gonna return the shoes." He sighed. "No. You have a job." Penelope said.

"And I hate that job. I wanna do what Elena's doing or anything else. Even Livi doesn't even need to work.." Alex mumbled.

"You can't quit after one day! I mean you gotta see the rash." Penelope raised her brow. "His nipples are the eyes."

"Ew!" Alex and Olivia exclaimed. Alex was about to walk away to his room but Olivia grabbed his hand and pulled him back.

"Wait, I Wanna say something... I think I'm going to work too. With you guys. For Alex, just so he doesn't quit his job." Olivia said.

"That's amazing! See, now you have Livi to accompany you." Penelope assured.

"No livi, you don't have to. Don't stress yourself out because of me." Alex said, shaking his head and trying to make Olivia change her decision.

"Hey, it's fine. And anyways I'm not really doing anything these days so I'd rather just go to work and be there with you." Olivia said reassuringly.

Alex smiled at her. They were staring into each others eyes, smiling at one another not realising Penelope and Lydia were staring at them with a smirk on their face.

"so are y'all gonna kiss or do we have to wait a bit more longer to make it more romantic?" Penelope smirked. The two teens broke their eye contact, their faces being as red as a tomato.

"One of you really need to make the first move or trust me you two will never happen." Lydia joked making them blush even more.

"I'm going to teach you guys a very important part of medicine. How to take the patient history." Doctor Berkowitz said. "Why don't one of you pretend to be.. oh I don't know, your grandmother?" Olivia furrowed her brows at him.

"That's weird." Alex said blankly. "Super weird." The redhead mumbled.

"But I'm super bored so sure." Alex said. Olivia gave a 'what the hell' look but he only shrugged.

"Great, great. Okay first question, uh age?"

"A lady never tells." Alex imitated Lydia. Olivia looked at him, shocked of how good of an accent he could do of Lydia.

"Of course, of course. Any allergies?"

"My Cuban blood is far too strong."

"Man, you are good!" Doctor Berkowitz said in amazement with Olivia nodding along. "Okay, what's your favourite flower?"

"Wait that's a medical thing?" Olivia asked. "It's related to the allergies. Just answer the question." Berkowitz said.

"I guess gardenias."

"Perfect. So, Thai food at home or duck á l'orange at a candlelit bistro?" Doctor Berkowitz asked cheekily making Olivia raise her brows and laugh quietly.

"Look, doc. My grandma likes you. You just need to be more chill." Alex said.

"Yeah, like not too available. Be busy sometimes." Olivia continued as Doctor Berkowitz nodded.

"Is that what you do with Olivia sometimes? Because you know I really think you guys should date. You would make a really good cou-"

"Penelope is coming!" Olivia said loudly, chuckling nervously, just wanting this conversation to be over.

"And that's why you always need to wear gloves." Doc said making the two teens furrow their brows.

"Nurse Alvarez, do you have a second?" One of Penelope patient said from the window.

"What can I do for you?"

"I just wanted to come back and tell you that you totally screwed me over." He told, straight forward.

Everyone furrowed their brows, confused. "Excuse me?"

"My insurance company is charging me from my physical, because it happened in the same 365-day period as my last one, and I'm only covered for one a year!" He explained.

"I'm sorry that's happening, but you did call and ask to be seen as soon as possible." Penelope said calmly. Olivia could tell Penelope was about to blow off but was trying to keep her calm.

"No, I would have waited if I knew it was gonna cost me money! You know what? I'm gonna go go Dr. Mazzara from now on. Send my stuff over there." The guy said.

Olivia was about to get up and walked up to him to give the most jaw breaking punch ever but Alex pulled her down by her hand.

"I'm sorry to hear that. I'll do that right away." Penelope mumbled.

"Yeah, try not to screw that up too!" The guy snapped.

"Oh hell no, you bitc-" Olivia was about to start cussing him out but Alex covered her mouth her hand and wrapped his arm around her waist so she doesn't cause a scene.

Once he left, Penelope closed the door and went over to her desk. Alex and Olivia looked at each other with sympathy written all over their faces.

They felt really bad for her but sadly they couldn't do anything. Olivia would've punched the absolute shit out of that guy but that would make the situation more worse but she did wish she could do that.

"Um Alex?" Olivia called.

"Yeah?"

"You can let go now." She said, looking down at his arm being wrapped around her waist and another around her shoulders.

"Oh, sorry." He stuttered, quickly letting go, his face having going pink.

After a really long and awkward car ride, they finally made it back home. Olivia decided to go back to her apartment, after a whole day of working, she was exhausted.

She went to the kitchen, making herself some popcorn. The doorbell rang causing her to furrow her brows, wondering why someone would be at her door so late.

She opened the door only to find there was no one there. She was about to close it but suddenly Alex appeared, scaring her making her scream.

"Dude! Seriously?!" She exclaimed, putting her hand on her chest. He was laughing so hard that his stomach was starting to hurt. Olivia slightly smile and rolled her eyes, having to admit that it was pretty funny.

"What are you doing here so late?"

"Well, I wanted to give you this." Alex said, passing her an envelope. She opened it revealing $70 inside. Her jaw dropped slightly as she looked at Alex.

"Oh my god, Alex. This is $70! No way!" She scoffed in amusement.

"Yeah, well there was $80 but I gave some to Elena. And I wanted to give the rest to you. I feel like you deserve it after helping me and every thing." Alex shrugged.

"No, I can't take this. You take it. You worked for it." Olivia said, denying it but Alex kept on making her take it.

"Okay, say what. Why not, you take $60 and I take $10?" Olivia suggested.

"But why do you only get $10?" Alex frowned. "You worked harder than me Alex. I only worked for a day, you deserve it more than me." Olivia said with pleading eyes which made him sigh and take the money.

"Thanks Livi." Alex smiled. Before he was about to walk away, she quickly pecked him on the cheek and closed the door to her apartment before he could say anything.

He touched his cheek and smiled widely, shaking his head and going back to his apartment.

short chapter :( I know this story may start off as really boring but it soon gets interesting once it goes to season 3 especially 😉 hope you enjoy! Next chapter will probably come next week or maybe sooner!!
