chapter 16 | the quinces

OLIVIA WALKED OUT OF HER APARTMENT, WALKING TOWARDS THE ALVAREZ'. She saw Schneider coming out and the door getting slammed in his face causing her to laugh out loud.

"Dude, you just got door slammed!" She said while laughing. Schneider gave her look and she immediately stopped laughing. "Not cool? Okay..."

Walking into the Alvarez apartment she saw Lydia and Penelope talking whilst Alex was running after Elena with his big camera. Olivia said a quick hi to penelope and lydia before following behind Alex into Elena's room. She immediately gasped as she saw Elena in her white dress for the quinces.

"Oh my goodness, Elena you look beautiful in that dress!" Olivia said in awe as Elena twirled her dress. "Thanks Livi! I love it! Come on, let's go show my mom and Abuelita."

As soon as Elena stepped foot in the living room, everyone cheered and hyped her up. Alex was recording the moment whilst Olivia stood beside him and watched them hype her up and chuckled.

"Thank you so much, Abuelita. It's beautiful." Elena smiled widely. "What's wrong with it?" Lydia smile dropped.

"Nothing! I'm happy, I'm smiling."

"Exactly. You are not sobbing with joy. I have failed you." Lydia said. Everyone looked at her confused. "I have failed my family, I have failed Cuba." She said, looking into the camera dramtically.

Everyone from the Alvarez family including Olivia walked into the ballroom. Alex was still recording as usual whilst Penelope talked to the lady in charge of the ballroom.

As Penelope talked to Doctor Berkowitz, Alex and Olivia explored the ballroom. "Woah this is so cool!" Alex said in awe and Olivia nodded. Alex turned the camera to her and started filming her causing her to chuckle.

"What are you doing?" She giggled. "Filming you. We can keep this as a 'memory at the ballroom with Alex and Livi'." Alex quoted and she laughed. She started doing weird poses whilst Alex films her and chuckles.

"Don't worry Leslie. Elena's quinces is going to be a very special day for everyone.." Lydia said as she puts her finger on Doctor Berkowitz chest causing Olivia to gag whilst Alex tried to film it but Penelope stopped him.

"Excuse me. Where is the dance floor?" Lydia asked. "Um, you're standing on it." The lady told. "Are you kidding me?" Lydia said blankly while the lady to look confused.

"I have relatives who escaped from Cuba on a raft bigger than this!" Lydia started speaking in Spanish until penelope stopped her.

"Hey, hey, Lucy. I'm sorry about her. Let me translate. She would like a larger dance floor." She told the lady.

"Give the lady a bigger floor." Victor said jokingly.

"Papi!" Alex exclaimed as he hugged his father as well as Elena. "Victor! Hey." Olivia smiled as she hugged him too.

After that, Lydia, Alex and Olivia followed penelope to get the booze as they let Victor and Elena practice their father-daughter dance for the quinces.

Alex and Olivia were rewatching the recordings that Alex took. They were talking about Elena's quinces until Penelope started to yell at someone which caught their attention.

"Don't freestyle, stick with the picture! Follow Olguititas example. And what the hell is a carnation doing here?! " Penelope yelled at a woman. Alex and Olivia gave each other a look before walking over to Penelope.

"Mami, a word?" Alex said as he dragged her to a corner. "When was the last time you slept?" He asked.

"Two days ago. Yeah, but don't worry I take little power naps when I pee." She answered. "Maybe you should lie down." Olivia suggested. "Maybe you should lie down." Penelope mocked as Olivia and Alex looked at her confusingly.

"What's happening?" They both said in unison. "I'm sorry guys. There's just a lot to do and people say they want to help and freaking Tina's over here doing her own thing like she always does. You guys keep an eye on her." Penelope told them before walking off, leaving the two pre teens confused as they sat down.

"So, what kind of dress are you gonna wear for the quinces?" Alex asked, looking at his red headed best friend. " hm, I actually don't know yet. My dad said he dropped off some dresses that my cousins gave us that they don't wear anymore so maybe I might be wearing one of those I guess? What about you?"

" I figured I would just wear my famous black tuxedo." Alex smirked confidently causing the red head to chuckle.

"Okay so, should I wear this green one or the white one?" Olivia asked her best friends. Currently, Olivia was on FaceTime with her girl-friends, Charlotte, Sophia and Bianca. Olivia couldn't pick out what dress to wear so she called her friends for help.

"Hmm, I think the white is cute." "No, the green is better." "No I think the white would look good on you." The girls all exclaimed their opinions at once.

"Come on guys! The quinces is in an hour and I would really love it if you guys would just help me pick a dress right now!" Olivia sighed. "Okay, okay, let's just all decide that the green one is the one alright?" Charlotte said and everyone agreed.

"I still think the white one is better tho..." Sophia said in defeat and Olivia gave her a 'really' look. "Anyways, thanks guys. I'm going to get dressed now and thank you for helping. I really hope everyone will like it.." Olivia said.

"By 'everyone' you mean Alexxx..." Bianca teased and everyone erupted in laughter. Olivia blushed a bit. "Shut up, Bi! You know I don't like him like that, he's only my best friend." She said on defeat and they all rolled their eyes knowing she was lying.

"Okay, okay I'm gonna go now, I need to get dressed. I'll see you guys at the quinces. Bye!" She quickly ended the call and sighed. She couldn't help but smile a bit when her friends said that. She quickly got dressed and put on some light makeup before putting on her 2-inch heels since she couldn't really walk in high heels yet.

She quickly grabbed her things and went into the living room, seeing her family all dressed up too.

"You guys look amazing! Awww, Luc you look so cute in your suit!" Olivia said in awe as her little brother giggled.

"You look amazing my loves." Thomas said to his wife and daughter and they smiled.

"Alright, come on let's go. We don't want to be late." Marcelina ordered as they all left the apartment.

The Jones walked into the ballroom of the quinces being filled with many people. Olivia spotted Penelope and waved at her.

"Hey guys. I'm so glad you guys could make it. Just have a seat first and the quinces will start in a few minutes. " Penelope smiled before leaving.

Olivia looked around trying to find Alex but there was no sign of him. She sighed as she sat down on the table with her family.

"Hey everybody. Hello?" Penelope spoke in the microphone, trying to get the peoples attention but no one was listening.

"Hey, you guys!" Lydia yelled, grabbing the peoples attention as they stared at her. "The room is yours." She said to Penelope. Penelope started her speech as everyone listened.

After the speech was done, the 'couples' were brought out to dance on the dance floor. Alex came out last and did a bow. Looking around once he spotted his best friend, and blowed her a kiss causing her to chuckle and did the same.

"And now let's welcome the girl of the hour- oh, I mean the woman of the hour, Elena Maria Alvarez Riera Calderón Leytevidal Inclan." Elena and Josh came out and everyone cheered. Olivia was in awe once she saw Elena. She thought that she looked amazing in her suit and she loved it.

The dance started and they started dancing. Alex danced with Carmen and Olivia couldn't help it but laugh a little. Olivia was suppose to be the one dancing with Alex after all the begging from the Alvarez family to dance with him but she didn't want to because she thought she wasn't 'good enough'.

After many songs of the people dancing, everyone went off to sit at their seats as they waited for the father daughter dance.

"All right, all right, ladies and gentleman. Please turn your attention to the dance floor for the father-daughter dance." The guy announced. Elena went on the dance floor as the music started. She waited for Victor to come but he didn't. She started having tears in her eyes as she saw there was no sign of Victor.

Olivia couldn't help but feel sorry for her. She thought Victor was a nice person but turns out not. Penelope then came to the dance floor and danced with Elena. Everyone cheered for them as they danced. Soon, Alex, Lydia, Schneider and Doctor Berkowitz joined them.

Olivia smiled widely at them as she watched the moment happening. She was happy for them.

The music then changed and this time everyone else joined the dance floor and started dancing. Olivia pulled her family to the dance floor as they all started dancing. Alex grabbed Olivia's hand and pulled her close causing her to yelp.

"Don't do that! You scared me." She laughed as she danced with her best friend.

"You look beautiful tonight." Alex complimented Livi which made her blush a bit but she quickly hide it. "Only tonight?! I thought I was beautiful every night?" She joked and Alex rolled his eyes, shaking his head.

"Oh my god, Alex look! Lucas is dancing with that little girl. Aren't they so cute?!" Olivia gasped and smiled widely as she saw her little brother dancing with a small girl his age. The two pre teens smiled in awe and continued dancing their own.
